1. Yeah, sounds like you had a bad download or something.
2. You can enable cheat mode in UCCE using the /opt_cheats_on commandline parameter. Can be used in conjunction with the /i invisibility cheat. Adds a CHEATS menu in the game cockpit from where you can create any asset you like and include them in the game world. Great for creating your own quick fleet or just checking out stuff you would normally need to play the game for years to see. CTRL+Q allows you to do a quick save of the game without quitting. This is not very reliable, so use with caution!!. If you are going to use it, be sure that you had first created a full save (ALT+G) game. ALT+SHIFT+G will create a number of random friendly (TER/MIL) fighters around your craft. ALT+SHIFT+H will create a number of random enemy fighters around your craft. Increased speed (press 9, then hold down W to exceed your craft's dynamics). In the Commander carrier, go to Logistix and set your engine power to 10 as this increases the max thrust that the craft can achieve. Ability to return to your asset by pressing SHIFT+ESC (so you don't have to target the ship first and dock with it Target an object in the TRS, viewing it in the VDD and pressing ALT+X allows you to destroy it without firing a single shot. If there is no target, you will destroy yourself!! Target an object in the TRS, viewing it in the VDD and pressing ALT+W allows you to damage it without firing a single shot. If there is no target, you will damage yourself!! Allows you to leave planet at any altitude by pressing SHIFT+9 SHIFT+T accelerates time. When on the planet, this can be used to see the various transitions (e.g. progressive dusk to dawn). Earth has a bunch of different climate/weather transitions. To monitor the current climate, time, weather, check the NID/NIR mode. DANGEROUS!! USE WITH CAUTION!!! This will also toggle the TRS on/off with each press. So be sure to turn it back on. When on the planet, CTRL+K and CTRL+L cycle through all the weather patterns without any region restrictions. Allows you to target a jump anomaly (e.g. jump gate) in the NID and use ALT+SHIFT+J to jump to the target region without having to fly to and enter the jump anomaly. in first person mode, you can use the transporter to transport yourself to any location on the current planet. To use this, use the transporter option in Tacops (ALT+S), select a location using setpos and then press the deploy button. This works even if the button is not enabled (since you can still press it). Note, this cheat works with all careers *except* for the Commander career. Increased O2 levels when swimming under water. Increased jetpack speed and more power (Commander and EF marine only). Perpetual fleet C&C control, allowing you to order most NPC units as if they were part of your fleet. Gives you the HSD artifact, allowing you to left-click on the location hotspot (lower left corner of HUD) and warp to any space region without actually flying there. Gives you extended radar ranges e.g. in first person mode. The DIE radar is limited to 50km without this cheat Allows your Commander to enter and control any asset found on planets (e.g. vehicles, fighters) without any career based restrictions Allows you to use the RANDOM weapon to destroy entire planets with no repercusions (i.e. no violations)
3. That makes no sense whatsoever. (1) The NSIS installer has nothing to do with the Updater (2) The Updater does not use NSIS (3) Running the Updater does not immediately run the installer When you run the Updater, it firsts checked for an internet connection, then downloads the [NSIS created] patch (ucce_1.00.03.02.exe for your DVD-ROM version) file from the server, copies it to the game install folder and then runs it. If you have a corrupted file download, then that could explain the error message you are getting when the patch itself is executed. You may have a bad download because I just downloaded the patch file and checked it. Check the game installer folder for the patch file mentioned above. The size should be 17,269,405 bytes. If its anything else, then you have a corrupted download. So, you need to re-download the patch file again. Check the SETTINGS.INI file. If the current version is 1.00.03.01, then you can just run the Updater. But if it says 1.00.03.02, then you need to change it to the previous version and then run the Updater. Please, if you are going to report a problem, be 100% accurate so that its easier to assess the problem and be able to assist in a timely fashion. btw, if you passed on the original BC3K, boy are you in for a heck of a time; since UCCE covers all the games in the series but running on more advanced engines in which everything that I can think of, has been resolved. Hence the reason its the sayonara version.
4. Newsflash! 1. The Universal Combat Collectors' Edition was release a month ago 2. The -n parameter used on the shortcut for all our games, simply disables the game's intro sequence. It serves no other purpose 3. The issue with the intro movie not playing due to missing codecs is documented in the game's FAQ; and using the -n parameter to bypass it happens to be one of the remedies to solving it
5. The just released 1.00.06 patch for UCCE now has a console server (UCMPCONSOLE.EXE) which does not require 3D hardware. So those of you wanting to host remote servers can now deploy a server on leased or purchased servers since those are usually running Windows Server 2003 on hardware that does not have shader model 2.0. All you have to do is upload your digital distribution version (you cannot setup a remote server using the DVD-ROM version of the game) of the game to the remote server and install it. Then run the Updater to grab the latest patch. Create a shortcut to the UCMPCONSOLE.EXE file located in the game folder. Once started, configure and run the console server as normal. The /s /console are the default parameters. You can add others such as logging, chat etc as desired. Both the graphics and console servers now use the ucconfigMP.ini file. A version which provides the minimal settings is provided with the patch. You will need a new game license for a remote server install, since that counts as an additional game. For that, you need to purchase a separate digital distribution version of the game. Its cheap ($29.95), so no complaining please. If you are looking for a good long/short term host, check out one of these. Note that APlus are the current hosts of our master server as well as this website. APlus Value Servers The Planet - Dedicated Servers Server Beach Hypernia Gaming Servers
6. This patch requires the November 2007 (or later) DirectX runtime Use the game Updater to download and apply the patch. The online VCF has also been updated. NOTES: This patch uses a different installer. Be sure to confirm the location of your install in the dialog which appears!! If you use the game's Updater, it will download the patch and apply it. If you don't want to use the Updater, then you have to check one of the public mirrors for a link to the full patch. WARNING: DO NOT DOWNLOAD THE PUBLIC PATCHES AVAILABLE ON DOWNLOAD MIRRORS IF YOU HAVE THE DOWNLOAD (e.g. DIRECT2DRIVE) VERSION OF THE GAME!! USE THE UPDATER INSTEAD!!! NOTE Games supported: UCCE v1.00.03 Full (Take2 DVD-ROM retail version) UCCE v1.00.03.01 Full (Direct2Drive version) * UCCE v1.00.03.01 Full (Digital River version) * UCCE v1.00.03.01 Full (BMT Micro UCSE to UCCE upgrade version) * * IF YOU BOUGHT THESE VERSIONS BEFORE 11-01-07, YOU HAVE TO EDIT YOUR SETTINGS.INI FILE BEFORE USING THE GAME UDPATER. THIS IS BECAUSE IT NOW SUPPORTS ALL THE VARIOUS DRM VERSIONS. FAILURE TO DO THIS WILL RESULT IN YOUR DRM SIGNATURE BEING INVALIDED (DUE TO AN INCORRECT PATCH BEING DOWNLOADED AND APPLIED). Go to your game install folder and make a backup of the SETTINGS.INI file. Then load the SETTINGS.INI file in Notepad. Go to the UPDATEINFO section and make the following changes depending on which version you have. If you have the current version, no changes are required. When done, save the file, exit Notepad and run the Updater. If you run the game and you are prompted for license info, then you messed something up. In which case you will have to rollback to the previous 1.00.03.01 patch and do it over.
7. Yeah, it was fun. I posted about the Freespace2 debacle over on Avault (where I first announced it a few years back).
8. As per this KB update, you need to make the following changes to these two source scripts so that you have the latest versions in case you intend to modify them in the future. These are necessary because the engine interpreter used in UCCE does not fully support that syntax and will thus cause a crash if the actor is initialized before the world is loaded. This can happen on fast systems. I used a more recent script parser to build UCCE scripts, but did not update the UCCE interpreter because I didn't want to cause future unforeseen problems. Which is why I didn't experience this problem during testing. #1. Open IA0311.SCR in Notepad and change the AI script definition for the e1 actor: from this .e1,100,100,100,100,100,100,0 start inactive near trionz^wayfarer 25000 xcf1 navigate trionz^xcj2 stop events 1 !beginl1 activate this !reach trionz^xcj2 IF ACM 1 THEN rtb oliran ENDIF endevents
to this (line #67 deleted, two new lines inserted after line #71)
.e1,100,100,100,100,100,100,0 start inactive near trionz^wayfarer 25000 xcf1 stop events 1 !beginl1 activate this !startup navigate this trionz^xcj2 !reach trionz^xcj2 IF ACM 1 THEN rtb oliran ENDIF endevents #2. 9. Well, don't thank me yet until you've applied it and verified that it works.
10. This one was a bit impromptu, but it was a lot of fun. You can view/download the episode.
11. The two reports in this thread, have been fixed. One was related to missing assets which the installer did not include during build and the other was related to use of a script command format not supported in legacy (in this case, BCM) scripts. To apply this update, make sure you have patched to the latest 1.00.03.01, then download this file and run it. NOTE Games supported: UCCE v1.00.03 Full (Take2 DVD-ROM retail version) patched to v1.00.03.01 UCCE v1.00.03.01 Full (Digital River) UCCE v1.00.03.01 Full (Direct2Drive) USE to UCCE Upgrade v1.00.03.01 (BMT Micro) UPDATE: This KB has been rolled into the 1.00.03.02 patch and is now deprecated.
12. Run the game in a window by adding /w1 to the shortcut. You should then be able to see the error message. If you also add /d2 to the shortcut, a .log file will also be created in the game folder and it may show the cause of the error which looks like a missing asset (like below). Looks like the installer didn't copy over three map assets. The farstar.tga, hellseye.tga, trion.tga images should be in the PTE\STETEX folder. If they are not, then thats probably the problem. If you have BCM or BCMG, copy those files over from the PTE2\STETEX folder and try this again. If it works, let me know and I'll do a roll-up update. Those maps are for the BCM/BCMG world and that IA0311 scenario (see GAME_SCENARIOS.TXT in the GBS archive) are from those games.
13. Why are you posting in an AWA related thread when you just posted that you were playing UCCE? What'd I miss?
14. No clue. I tested that - as much as I did all the others. So I'll wait for someone else to confirm before I go off on a wild goose chase. btw, the DX runtime on the DVD is the July version. The latest - and for which the latest patch is built - is the August version.
15. The Digital River version of the full UCCE product is now online. Hopefully the Direct2Drive version will be up soon too. Its the season and they've got a ton of products to bring online. So we're in the queue somewhere.
16. This patch (for the BMT Micro CD-ROM & Digital River download versions) has been re-issued with the correct protection settings. Just run the game updater to download and install it. Also, it is now an all-in-one patch which no longer requires the previous (large) v1.00.07 patch. This patch will install on top of any previous version, including a new CD-ROM install.
17. If you have UCAWA - which is what you were trying to patch - what is the point of installing UC? The current .19 patch for UCAWA works just fine. Only the .20 patch (now pulled) has a problem because of the incorrect auth. I already gave you a replacement cd-key which will work with that .19 patch and in fact the upcoming fixed .20.
18. *moved* This is not a tech support issue. In the future, please post in the correct forum or risk immediate deletion. As to your problem, there are far too many undelete utilities on the internet to count. So why you're even posting here about about a systematic OS issue, baffles me. If you want to rescue your game profile, you have to get an undelete utility. The process is no different from when you accidentally delete any other file from your computer.
19. Which means what exactly? You don't need a GUI editor to do it. And no, I'm not going to show you how to do it. Upgrade your machine.
20. BCM was released only through a special deal with EB Games. On the [blue] box (which I have here), it says "Optional Multplayer will support seamless space and planetary modes" On p5 of the manual, it says "Once BCM supports multiplayer, this option will take you to the multiplayer selection screen". The optional multiplayer module was never released for the game. When the BCM Gold and UC deal was signed with Dreamcatcher, it was decided that it would be released in BCM Gold, instead of as an additional download which would cause patching and support issues. Which is why when it was finally implemented and released in BCM Gold, those with BCM had an optional discount in the form of a coupon from Dreamcatcher. If when you bought the game, you didn't multiplayer, you had the option to return it. Especially since EB -at the time- were accepting returns for all games, no questions asked. There is nothing to know. They were created for a special multiplayer mode which was later scrapped. Now they are just like any other scenery model. So there is nothing to fix, smart ass.
21. Here are some clues. Pay attention. 1. If you can't destroy something, my guess is that its indestructible 2. If you don't see anyone on multiplayer, my guess is that nobody is online btw, mp wasn't disabled in BCM. There was no mp for that title. Hope that helps.
22. Did you read the part where I said that it was protected with the UCSE signature?
23. Apart from using the wrong activation link, it looks like you patched the game before actually running - and thereby activating - it. Which is why the hardware signature is wrong because the .20 patch apparently contains the UCSE signature. You can check this by looking at the properties of the protect.dll or protect.exe files located in the game folder. I have notified them and am awaiting fixed files before the .20 patch can be re-deployed.
24. The Starforce (BMT Micro, Digital River) version of this patch has been pulled. Apparently the Starforce guys protected it using the UCSE project settings. A revised patch will be uploaded when I get the fixed files from them. In the meantime, you can revert to the previous .19 build by either uninstalling and re-installing, then running the Updater to download the .19 patch or you can just edit the settings.ini file, change the .20 version to .18, save the file and run the Updater. It will then download the .19 path and apply it.
