Blackstar is officially dead. Who knew?

This is the very first movie that - in my whole life - I have walked out on and it wasn't a gorefest. ...exactly 46 mins in, I had enough of the bad acting, dialog, cliches etc. The sound track was so horrible, I almost put on my iPods. Yes, it was that bad. Do yourself a favor: if you must see this, see another good movie first and then, only then, if you have money to burn, should you see this movie. I'm giving it two stars (instead of one) because I'm already used to Jason's scowl and Burt Reynolds did his part very well. 2/10

[UCCE] Fatal Crashs
Supreme Cmdr replied to Maurader's topic in Battlecruiser / Universal Combat (Legacy)
The game was never designed to be run in a window and you simply shouldn't do it because in windowed mode, it is at the mercy of Windows OS resource management, time slicing, priority etc and all sorts of other crazy shit that Windows does. The window mode was created only for debugging purposes and for running the multiplayer graphics/console server since they do not need to be fullscreen or at any resolution higher than 800x600. I only documented the commands for switching to windowed mode in order for folks who are getting errors, to see what the error is because in full screen you won't see it on some graphics cards drivers. So.. just.don't.do.it. -
The game FAQ (included in the freeware as well) has an entire section on the joystick. The game commands PDF also shows you how to change your joystick axis and describes the effects of doing so.

I have come across another [serious] issue related to the recent weather fx revisions and I'm going to have to release yet another patch sometime next week to resolve it. Basically, the current weather fx setting does not survive sessions. This is only restricted to IA sessions though, since the campaign and roam scenarios run off the default weather values and the script never overrides them. In the case of IA, some of the scripts will specifically set (force) the weather type to suit the environment required for the scenario. e.g. - Run the IA0118 UCCE scenario. This has the weather set to rain (4) - Quit to main menu but do NOT quit to the OS - Run the IA0222 UCCE scenario. This has the weather set to stormy (6). The weather is not set. - Quit to the OS, restart the game, run IA0222. It works just fine. This is why I never like to mess with stuff that previously worked. Oh well.

[UCCE] Fatal Crashs

LOL!!! Ooooh, he has a sense of humor. You'll fit right in!!! The line to Resnig's office forms over there to the left ALT+TAB on Windows is a tricky bugger to nail down. For some less critical games, it works. For others, it bombs right out. Its all Microsoft's fault actually because of how they are handling the OS resources because the code I have in there is straight out of MSDN. Oh well. Anyway, I just tried it again, the support ticket works. I even logged in as a new user. I logged in, clicked on Submit Ticket, and the ticket window opened. Try clearing your browser cache and try again. -
Good for her!!

[UCCE] Fatal Crashs
Supreme Cmdr replied to Maurader's topic in Battlecruiser / Universal Combat (Legacy)
You shouldn't be running ANY background programs when playing games, let alone games which require as much resources as possible and which are real-time. Don't alt-tab out of the game. You're either playing a game or you're not. So, don't multitask games. Though 100% unsupported, you can run the game in a window. Read the FAQ. The ticket system has not changed, so I don't know why it would ask for a dept. I'll look into it. EDIT: Ticket system works fine for me. You register and then the window to enter a ticket opens. You fill in the information. Thats all in your head and in your imagination. Lay off the juice. -

Universal Combat keyboard commands sheet.
Supreme Cmdr replied to lilgenius0705's topic in Universal Combat Series
I'm not sure how you could possibly have missed it when in fact the installer creates shortcuts to all documents (manual, commands, tutorial etc) for the game right there in START/Programs/3000AD/Universal Combat/Docs Did you just run the game from the desktop without so much as even looking at the game's group folder created by the installer? Please explain, because I'm curious to get into the mind of a gamer who would go through so much trouble to download and install a game, then not bother looking to see wtf was installed. My guess is, you're not even the type of gamer that the game was designed and developed for since if something as trivial as this is a problem, my guess is you're going to have a hard time actually playing the game. ...then there's this. A thread that (1) explains this (2) where you should be posting given the version you have -

OK, I'll bite. So, which version is it that you have and which does not come with a manual. Where'd you get such a version? -
Totally agree with you there. In fact, it was something that kept nagging me all along.

What to buy, and question on multiplayer.
Supreme Cmdr replied to Darkveld's topic in Universal Combat Series
Two people need two copies of the game. Whether you are playing on a LAN or not. What you're asking is if you and your buddy can play on a LAN with one copy. No, you can't. You need your copy and your buddy needs his. -
Universal Combat v2.00.31 Freeware
Supreme Cmdr replied to Supreme Cmdr's topic in Universal Combat Series
Post any/all issues, thoughts about this release in this thread only. Post it anywhere else and it will be deleted. Can't run the game? Sorry, you're on your own. Read the forums, the faq and ensure that you actually did read the game's requirements. The game works just fine. That last patch, v2.00.30 was released back on 09-07-05. In fact, the freeware version contains the latest v2.00.31 which was an unreleased patch version. The freeware version was tested and runs just fine on every consumer OS since 2003 to now; including Vista (32 Bit) Home/Premium/Ultimate, though on the latter, you may need to run the UC.EXE and UCMP.EXE files in Windows XP SP2 compatibilty mode. Most startup issues are related to the playback of the intro movie due to missing codecs on some machines. Read the FAQ on how to bypass it. -
You can run a client and server on the same rig (i.e. non-dedicated server) as long as that rig meets with the multiplayer requirements mentioned in the game's FAQ If running a non-dedicated server, you need to run the console server - not - the graphics server. If running a non-dedicated server and you want to improve performance, you need to use a UCCONFIG.INI file (created when you first run the game) which has lower setings for the server. However, this will apply to both the client and the server. Below* you will find links to this file for each of the game versions. If you want to run a different UCCONFIG.INI for the client and server on an mp server, you need to clone your game install folder and use the cloned copy for the server. You would need to manually create the console server shortcut as well. You can do this by just making a copy (and renaming it) of the default version created by the install program, then changing the path in the shortcut to reflect the cloned folder path. As of the 1.00.06 patch, the UCCE server (graphics and console) creates and uses a UCCCONFIGMP.INI file. A default version is included with the patch. If you wish to run a non-dedicated server - i.e. one on whcih you are not playing the game on - you will need two copies of the game. One for the server and one for the client. This is because the multiplayer executable is also copy protected. None of the games were designed to run on Windows Server OS (e.g. Windows Server 2003), but UC Gold through UCSE will run as long as the hardware has at least pixel and vertex shader 1.1 or higher. UCCE has a special console server version which will run on Windows Server OS and does not require shader hardware. * Simply right-click to download and extract into your game folder, overwriting the existing version. What to buy, and question on multiplayer.
Supreme Cmdr replied to Darkveld's topic in Universal Combat Series
Whichever version you buy is entirely up to you and depends mostly on your rig. If you have a rig that meets with the requirements of the latest (and final game in the series), Universal Combat Collectors Edition, thats the version you should get. If your rig isn't up to par, then go down to Universal Combat SE, then down to Universal Combat - A World Apart....and finally *gulp* down to the least advanced of the current releases, Universal Combat Gold. As for multiplayer, one copy will install just fine for both single and multiplayer, but ONLY on the SAME machine. So, if you want to run a dedicated server and play on another machine, you need two copies because the multiplayer executable is also copy protected. If you want to host and play on the same machine, then you need to run the console server version. You first configure and run the console server. Make sure it inits correctly, it will say so on the last line. Then minimize it. Then start your mp client as normal and either connect using the commandline or the in-game server browser. The issue with running the client and server on the same machine is that both the client and server use the same UCCONFIG.INI file. In order to improve performance of the server, you need to configure the minimal settings for the server. But doing so means that if the client and server are running from the same install, then that means what settings you trim for the server will also apply to the client. To get around that, you simply clone the entire game install folder. Then use one for the client and the other for the server. You can then use a slimmed down UCCONFIG.INI on the server without affecting the version in the other [client] folder. For more info, read this. Question: Is this the first time you are playing the UC game? I see that you are posting in the legacy forum. Did you just play the freeware version? -
As per this announcement, the game has been released as freeware. Some notes to bear in mind... The installer only contains the single-player game. If you want multiplayer, buy UC Gold ($9.99) or one of the recent games (UCAWA, UCSE, UCCE) depending on your system setup Docs included: 90 page manual, 3 page commands sheet, 60 page tutorial Supposed to work with Vista. If not, edit the shortcut to the UC.EXE file in Windows XP SP2 compatibility mode 100% unsupported. If you need support, read the existing threads in this forum. Create a new [support] thread and (1) it will be deleted (2) you will be ejected from the forum

Call Of Duty 4 -Modern Warfare
Supreme Cmdr replied to Supreme Cmdr's topic in PC Gaming & Technology
I installed a third-party client (its REALLY FREAKING COOL!!!) browser/voip client last night, GSC, and played for a bit on a few servers. I have to be honest, the gameplay is not that different from, say, the Battlefield games. Its just a different game, interesting maps and different weapons. The ranking is pretty cool though. I played and gained EPs all the way up to sniper class unlock before I resigned for the night. I also setup and tested a GSC voip server (Warmonger) for use later when I get the hang of it all. btw my GSC handle is DSMART -
I recently came across this joint and its freaking hilarious. Classic piss taking. I bet the owners are Brits (the only ones who would most likely get that kind of humor)
