  1. quote: Interesting, thought this bug was fixed. Just tried to reproduce it several times in v2.09. Can't. Its either fixed or its a fluke.
  2. Yeah, I remember that. Its hilarious.
  3. Your config.sys and autoexec.bat files are the problem. Those two programs in autoexec.bat are definitely eating up the much needed conventional memory and besides, you don't have high mem enabled. All this definitely explains the memory crash you are getting. I don't know how much memory GB_PROG or NAVDX use, but, before you comment them out, use these files. And when you start WIN9x, open up an MS-DOS window and type mem /c | more > mymem.txt Then, post the contents of the mymem.txt file, here. We can then decide if you should disable those first 2 lines in your autoexec.bat or not. btw, to create the piped output character, |, use shift+ config.sys DEVICE=C:WINDOWSHIMEM.SYS /NUMHANDLES=64 DEVICE=C:WINDOWSEMM386.EXE RAM SHELL=C:WINDOWSCOMMAND.COM /E:4096 /P DOS=HIGH,UMB FILES=50 BUFFERS=40 STACKS=9,256 autoexec.bat @ECHO OFF @C:PROGRA~1NORTON~1NAVDX.EXE /STARTUP @C:PROGRA~1WILDFI~1GOBACKGB_PROG.EXE /i C:2000 SET BLASTER=A220 I7 D1 H5 P330 T6 SET CTSYN=C:WINDOWS C:PROGRA~1CREATIVESBLIVEDOSDRVSBEINIT.COM [This message has been edited by Supreme Cmdr (edited 05-21-2000).]
  4. Read the FAQ. It has detailed instructions on how to use a non-standard card.
  5. I'll be logging in as a Terran/Mercenary once in awhile....to hunt down weapons of mass destruction, such as yourself.
  6. Read the FAQ Upgrade to v2.09 Do not install Sci-Tech Display doctor cuz you don't need it.
  7. ...I had no choice in the matter. Besides, I had been pulling some pretty long day/nights at work and I finally got some much needed sleep, after seeing the first 15 mins. 'nuff said.
  8. A memory problem is far removed from the Roster slot used, though I understand what Rattler is thinking. But that would be regarding saved games, not the in-game memory crashing issue. The game uses a lot of memory due to the huge world. By TOD2/M4, a lot has happened and now BC3K and WIN9x have to battle for memory. The only fix is to ensure that the memory settings for the shortcut (especially the 3DFX one) are correct. With a 128MB of memory, you should have no memory problems and if you get that problem on that particular line of code, it means that you are running other WIN9x programs which are chewing up the memory pool you have not configured the config.sys according to the FAQ you have not configured the DPMI and other memory settings in the shortcut, according to the FAQ I would suggest that you load your config.sys into Notepad, use the copy function, then paste it into a reply here. Do the same with the autoexec.bat file. Then, we'll know what is in those 2 files and we can better help you configure them. In fact, someone might even putting the proper settings for you and send new files via email. The guys in this forum are pretty good at going the distance, so, just let them know what kind of help you need.
  9. ...OK, its a slow afternoon and my build times are getting longer so, here goes. Be sure to check out the Lance Banyon trailer! www.trailervision.com
  10. I guess you have to get it to get it. I play EAW sometimes and this article is just one of many hilarious episodes, written by someone who also plays EAW. Not unlike the RPG forum, I find it hilarous. If you were too lazy to go to the main combatsim page to see the description of the link to the article, blame yourself.
  11. BCM does not support any specific controller. If the controller supports DirectInput, then it will be used. If you need any advanced functionality, then use the software that came with the controller.
  12. BCM supports parallel processing when running under WIN2K. BCM is not supported under NT, for obvious reasons.

  14. Poor John http://www.film.com/film-review/2000/10013...ult-review.html be sure to check the box office receipts for this weekend. Gladiator creamed it.
  15. Never has been a problem with viewing. You can't see any portion of a planet unless you zoom to it. Thats what those white boxes in the view are. You won't find anything outside of a mission zone. And if you click too far in, you have zoom back out. For that, use the keyboard zoom keys to fine tune your zoom. The problem is that the mouse zoom is very high and can take you to the ground and past any buildings or objects. It was designed to do just that. For fine tune zooming, use the keyboard. If you get lost, use the NUMLOCK 5 key to reset the view and start over. As for different textures etc, dunno. Never saw that problem before. Sounds like a corrupted game.
  16. heh, probably.
  17. Joe, its not a loss at all, because the server op can just activate/deactivate NPC auto-generation at will, depending on who many people are playing. So, if there are only 32 and AG is on, no problem. In fact, you can still have 64 and activate AG. It will all depend on the server load. So, this restriction is not encoded, its just an option.
  18. Happy Birthday Blades!! Now go 'av a pint for me.
  19. Its more money I have to spend, but, if it keeps me flak-free, its money well spent. Anyway, you guys, in between harassing me in subtle tones over this past year, have done a great job with the community, the RPG and fleet stuff etc, and I'd just hate to see it all result in chaos when you can't maintain order on public servers. These servers will be password protected. If you get in, it means a Fleet Leader gave you the password. And since everyone will know everyone on a server, if anyone gives his mother-in-law's boyfriend the server password, the server op will know about it and just ban them...for life. For that 64 player stuff, it means disabling NPC auto-generation btw. So, apart from stations which will still maintain their asset complement, and surface bases the same, the world will mostly comprise of human players. ....and I'll enable Fleet C&C on the server but only to a Fleet Leader because then I know it won't get abused. Its one thing to have a bunch of elitists on a secure server, all knowing the limitations, and another to have a bunch of ladies on public servers attempting to run 64 players on a 33.6K modem and bitching to me about it. This BCM release, I intend to keep my blood pressure within normal limits and I ain't taking any chances! I've got a newborn to raise and I don't particularly want to die of a heart attack or high blood pressure. I'd rather do down in flames (when Rattler and his crew decide they've had enough of GALCOM's crappola) in my ship. Nick is putting in HEAT and GamespyArcade support (www.gamespyarcade.com) in the SDK for me to implement in BCM (we just got the final gspy SDK last week from them). So, if I don't do the exclusive HEAT deal, people will be able to host their own public or secure servers - all of which will report to the 3000AD master server. If I end up doing an exclusive HEAT deal, then, thats the only place the public will be able to player. As of today, thats how its looking. I'm just having Nick put in gspy support just as a backup for when HEAT's license runs out, if they are down for some reason, etc.
  20. Just wanted to let you guys know that I will be setting up special MP servers for recognized fleets only. These servers will not be open to the public and will be administered and controlled by myself and the respective Fleet Leaders. These servers will be running 24-7, 7 days a week and I will bump up the num of players to 64, if Nick puts in the massively-multiplayer GCO code by then, if not, they will remain at 16 players (like the public servers). I will set up 1 server each on the East and West coast of the US, 1 in Australia, 1 in the UK and 1 in Japan. Be advised. Its coming...
  21. quote: L. Ron Hubbard has been dead for at least 10 years (although you wouldn't know it if you looked in the sci-fi section in bookstores). His estate's share of the royalty goes to Scientology. hehe, Steve, I know that. I was refering to his estate trustees actually. So Xavier, did you go and see it?
  22. *chuckle* Parias, you just crack me up.
  23. It is not a repairable system, as it is not listed in Logistix. It is an internal location. For one thing, I don't know how DreadA could tell that it was damaged. I thought he meant that they were stuck there due to damage. So, if they are stuck at those locations, and there is no damage anywhere on the ship, then there is something else preventing them. The fact remains, if you go manually ripping your ship apart in order to circumvent a stats increase, there is always a chance that it can get damaged beyond repair. Anyway, I'd like more accurate info about what is going on before I can offer any further suggestions. And if I suspect that there is a problem, I will request the saved game profile.
  24. I mind. I'm busy. Download the GBS and look in the OBJECTS.SCR file for this info.
  25. If the damaged rear turboshaft isn't a clue, I don't know what is.
