It's in NO Mzone, no scene. It's at the precise coordinates listed in the post above: 00000000 North: 00000000 West on planet Sygan. It's an empty spot on the map. In fact, I'd say it's of little importance, since there is no base there, it's just empty terrain. As for the 'clear as mud' thing, what is imprecise? I told you exactly where, and what happened to me there. It's not my fault what happened is bewildering. Ahh, tell you what, I give up, heheh. I must just suck at this. I don't think I should apply for that XP1 beta test bit, I think I'd just drive you crazy. But I'll still play and compliment you on your work. I just went there, and confirm there's something a bit odd there at the exact center of Sygan, (precisely 00000000 NORTH: 00000000 WEST:. I didn't destroy anything, so saw no buildings. But: Landed my CC just south of there. Launched shuttle, took (my first) joyride in an OC to those coordinates (confirmed, it's just north, and a bit west of Mission area 80 (by the mouseover tab info in tacops map for the record). What happened to me: Got out of OC, OC promptly vanished. Ran around a while, and finally, on a 'look down' view, spotted my OC, seemed to be below me. Couldn't jump. But! I could fly (jetpack), so I attempted that. I rose for a while, then suddenly, seemed to pop out of the ground into a slightly more rugged terrain, (similar to what I'd seen riding out there in the OC). OC nowhere to be found. Stopped jetpack, fell right back through the ground. Saw it this time, looked like I fell through a 'crack' in the planet. Wandering around underneath, I finally found that, although my OC wasn't visible where I was, it showed on my TDU, and following that, I 'bumped' into it, though saw nothing. Commandeered it, and was back to normal, rode back to CC without any problem. Is it possible this is a seam of some sort I fell through? I captured many screenshots, but am unsure if any will show anything useful, since I find them bewilderingly useless to look at. The most useful one is described below, an Insurgent base that must be very far away. I noticed while in that crack/seam/whatever it was, I could see a Terran Insurgent base that was not in the same map area while scrolling around in Tacops close zoom mode, I could not identify this base, but am assuming it was the closest insurgent base on the map. I could only look around this way 'upside down'. So you know, SC, this looks like what I noticed at that insurgent base on the Earth's moon I mentioned some time ago. I never did get to shuttle down to that one, since you'd looked at it. I hope this is enough info, I'll be checking in often if you have any questions, SC. Idaho

Beautiful! We were just talking about this. Now, if I can just find an Andromeda Ascendant model... Idaho

AvP2, huh? Okay, I think I'll buy that soon. Wasn't real impressed with AvP, but have heard nothing but good about AvP2. (Aliens....god, those things are the coolest). Idaho

quote:Originally posted by xierxior: Duncan, I have 3ds max 4.0.1 I can model but im not good with textures, maybe I could send you a few models and you could skin them for me? so far iv created a borg sphere <- that wasnt hard lol, another question I know you have to add turrets to it in bcstudio, but after that how do you actually get the model into the game as a selectable ship? or does the game have to be moddded for this?Xierxior, Hmm, this is interesting. I'd be interested in trying textures for models, (though I've little true experience, my skins for BCM just change the hue for the most part, I kept all the detail the same). I'd imagine to get the ship into the game, there's likely a 'ship list' file that defines what assets are available. (My first guess is this file is ASSETS.INI, inside BCM's data folder). As for just how to do it, I'm sure the info required is available, and right in this sub-forum, for that matter. I hope someone makes a model of the Andromeda Ascendant AND some slip fighters...(Face it, missiles, point defence turrets (PTA!), slip fighters, that ship was MADE for BCM!). That's a ship I'd love to try! (Heheh, I'd have to put all the crew into BCM). Idaho

Hey SC, Thanks for that 'step by step' (especially about the F5 for topdown view in Tacops, I'll have to try that). It'll be a great help for 'expanding' the feel of this universe being able to arbitrarily PICK where I want to come out of Hyperspace. Seems the only thing I HADN'T tried was setting the CC to 'resume waypoints' for orders. Can you tell I'm excited? That Insurgent base around Eori (if I recall correctly) should be worrying now, cause it's days are numbered once I master this. (Can you tell I owe that base a few?) Heheh, Isn't that a little like getting Einstien to speak at your school without ever once mentioning his past work? I think the history should be there, because that history, if told correctly, lets one know just how far SC will go to be sure his title becomes what he envisioned it would. I mean, he DID go to incredible lengths when almost any other developer out there would have cut their losses, and quietly joined some other company. Not SC. Keep the history, even if it's sometimes an unpleasant reminder of things past. It's also a reminder of true dedication. Idaho [ 03-06-2002, 02:32: Message edited by: Duncan Idaho ]

Hmm, I think it would help if you provided more information: i.e. Which planet? Which mission area/base on the planet? Idaho

Heheh, I got waypoints down, just can't make my CC hyperjump to one. If it can be done, I'll figure it out, been busy starting a 3rd new character. Idaho [ 03-05-2002, 17:57: Message edited by: Duncan Idaho ]

I kinda figured it would be hard to play with all the work you've been doing on it. What a shame, best game in the world, and you can't enjoy it. Oh well, at least you can take the credit for it. Idaho

I'm curious about that too. Asked in another thread, think it got missed. Idaho

Which is why I don't get pissed at you anymore. At least not often. You're definitely an XP1 Beta (and BCM mp) test candidate. So, once I put out the call, be sure to register. That goes for you too, Krekol, you lurker [/QB]I'm honored, SC. Truly. After the rough beginning even. Anyone who thinks SC unfair, take notice of the above, and recall, I got my dumb butt banned and yelled at a LOT until recently. And, just for the record, I don't get pissed at you much anymore either, SC. Idaho [ 03-05-2002, 13:11: Message edited by: Duncan Idaho ]

Hahahah, I like that idea. Or how about a big smiley face on your ship, but with an evil grin and fangs? Er, scratch that. Too much like those Walmart commercials. Idaho

Please convert to JPEG before sending) or two and pass along with an explanation of what is happening.[/QB]SC, Didn't have a capture, but I can easily reproduce it. Just did in fact, couldn't Ctrl-G capture, but Printscreen worked fine. Sending it now, with a description in the email body. Take care! (Not related, but rather than post again, just thought I'd mention I JUST plugged in another 256megs of RDRAM, for 512 megs total, and am looking forward to trying BCM right after this!). Idaho

"Mutual protection Union"
Duncan Idaho replied to Thomas Braun's topic in Misc. Race/Caste Affiliations
I, like some of the others, think the 'Mutual Protection' part doesn't fit, I don't see how unarmed traders can protect much of anything. Heheh. Same for the embargo idea, it's nice on paper, but seems to not be very strong when the paper's wet. But, the Information Exchange idea is a bit more intriguing, especially if you consider the possibility of reporting gathered information to more than just the traders you want to get to join this guild. Perhaps even venerable Intercorp, or other guilds would enjoy access to the information...for a price, of course... Maybe you ought to be looking more into a 'freelance intelligence gathering union' or something. Just a thought. Idaho -
Bowemoth, Hmm, the Video Aperature size, (it's the same thing Xervier was talking about), is a BIOS option, and should be set to 64megs by default. You could poke around in your BIOS to find it, but I'm guessing unless you (or someone else) changed it, it's probably already set to 64megs. Could be worth checking anyway, but I wouldn't put a lot of hope in it. Idaho

I use Paintshop Pro 7, and Photoshop. Paintshop Pro 7 is prefered for me for these skins, it has more tools than I need for the job, and those tools I do need are very easy to find and use, (unlike Photoshop, which has the tools, if you can find them). I don't have the model viewer yet, I just finish a skin, and pop into the game to scope it out. I haven't been putting text, or adding logo's to my ships, didn't think there'd be much interest, and putting a ship name on a ship is only good if it's the right name for the player. I've got a few more skins, and will probably be making them for ages, but I think I'll stop posting them, seems no one's really interested in having them but me (and the others who're making them now heheh). Thanks, Krekol, for putting the screens up. I sure appreciate the effort, and space. Take care! Idaho

Like the red. Works well. Idaho

I'm sticking with 1.0.0.6, no wimp patches here. I still haven't managed to wipe out a starstation with a cruiser though. Been trying to get my CC to hyperjump to a nav waypoint, but either I'm dense, or it can't. Heheh. I figure if I can sneak up on the starstation without being a sitting duck coming out of hyperspace, I might actually stand a chance of scrubbing a few of them. Oh well, I can dream, can't I? Idaho

Heheh, I remember a certain real BIG (BIG!!) software company pulling ads from CGW after a certain title was poorly reviewed not too long back. Nice to see CGW stood their ground. Idaho
-
Castor, Strange, that used to happen to me pre 1.0.0.6, but with 1.0.0.6, the enemy have ALWAYS been forced to enter, then exit the planet if they foolishly enter it's boundry. (Serves them right, too...for all the damage they caused me pre-1.0.0.6, heheh). There's one other thing I can think of that could cause that, though. It seems that plotting a hyperspace course computes where the ship you're jumping to should be when you arrive, based on it's current heading and speed. It's possible that you jumped towards a ship that was fighting near the planet, and heading TOWARDS the planet, which may mean your hyperspace jump may have been computed to enter the planet, even though after, the enemy likely veered off to avoid entering the planet. Just a thought. Hope you get it figured out. Idaho [ 03-04-2002, 21:34: Message edited by: Duncan Idaho ]

Or better, set the AGP Aperature to 64meg...since that should be default on most systems. Idaho
-
Castor, That isn't truly a 'problem'. What's probably going on is you're jumping to a ship that's in hyperspace transit already. NPC's seem a bit daft in that they'll set course into the middle of a planet when trying to meet another ship for battle. If you watch a while, you'll spot the ship leave hyperspace at or in the planet, then they'll suddenly appear elsewhere near the planet. That's because they established planetfall shortly, and exited at the default exit location...(typically with some damage too, if the planet's atmosphere is rough). Solution: Don't jump to ships that are in hyperspace without being sure where they're going to end up. You may find, extremely occasionally, a fighter or other vessel will keep trying to jump back into the planet. That's always (in my experience since the 1.0.0.6 patch anyway) because the ship is trying to jump to another ship that...you guessed it...is currently in hyperspace towards the planet. Hope this helps some. Idaho (SC, did I get that right? Heheh).
