  2. quote:Originally posted by $iLk: Not really sure if this is a joke or not... I believe it. There's always someone experimenting with the PC by one means or another. Well the underclocking is nothing new well to me anyway. I've done that from time to time just to play some of my really older games. There's nothing like playing Wing commander 1,2,3 etc.. on a 2gigahertz system everything is at lightspeed. There's nothing like wathcing a squadron of kilrathi swarming around your sector as fast as flies....

I don't blame ya for the language. There's nothing like purchasing a game that's been touted for so long as the ultimate online Star Wars experience and then to find out that their servers aren't up to speed with the game. You should do what I do, wait a few months check all the reviews you might wanna try Gamespot.com and read the reader reviews to see if any complaints about bugs and what not if there's none pick the game up if there are bugs with the game wait for a patch to be released then purchase the game. I feel sorry for the people that pre-ordered the game. For me, I think I will stick with the Jedi Knight Series.
  6. quote:Originally posted by Spindoktor: quote:is it me or that movie listing is unimpressive (money-wise) compared to what we usually see? According to this article, revenues are down about 9 percent from the same period last year. Well that's to be expected with the slump in the economy this year. To top that off here in NYC taxes have gone thru the roof subway fares increased but salaries have remained the same (that's if you are lucky to have a decent job) no one really has the money for movies lets see $10 for the movie $8 for the soda and popcorn (special combo price) so for two people it's $28 for that plus a couple of bucks more you can buy a game like BCMG that'll last you a hell of a lot longer and alot more enjoyable in the comfort of your own home. The reason I say that about enjoyable is becuase the last few times I went to see a movie some crack heads didn't turn off their cell phone ringer. The last movie I saw was LOTR two towers and it happened again there I was totally engrossed in the movie during the helms deep battle I get pulled back to reality cause just four seats to the right of me there was a couple there that didn't turn off their cell phone. I was so Gd mad I felt like going Orchish on them. I'm almost afraid to go see T3 in the movies cause if it happens again I'm gunna go Hasta La Vista Baby on them...... 9. quote:Originally posted by aggressor27: Even though we already have 2 or 3 references to translation sites, try Babelfish.com. If you put in something like "Hello, I enjoy long walks on the beach" you get back something like "The blue donkey eats fish on a leaf". But it's convenient, either way. Wow, no wonder it translates like that. Babel Fish The Babel fish is small, yellow, leechlike, and probably the oddest thing in the Universe. It feeds on brainwave energy received not from its own carrier but from those around it. It absorbs all unconscious mental frequencies from this brainwave energy to nourish itself with. It then excretes into the mind of its carrier a telepathic matrix formed by combining the conscious thought frequencies with nerve signals picked up from the speech centers of the brain which has supplied them. The practical upshot of all this is that if you stick a Babel fish in your ear you can instantly understand anything said to you in any form of language. The speech patterns you actually hear decode the brainwave matrix which has been fed into your mind by your Babel fish. Now it is such a bizarrely improbable coincidence that anything so mind-bogglingly useful could have evolved purely by chance that some thinkers have chosen to see it as a final and clinching proof of the NONexistence of God. The argument goes like this: `I refuse to prove that I exist,' says God, `for proof denies faith, and without faith I am nothing.' `But,' says Man, `The Babel fish is a dead giveaway, isn't it? It could not have evolved by chance. It proves you exist, and so therefore, by your own arguments, you don't. QED.' `Oh dear,' says God, `I hadn't thought of that,' and promptly disappears in a puff of logic. `Oh, that was easy,' says Man, and for an encore goes on to prove that black is white and gets himself killed on the next pedestrian crossing. Most leading theologians claim that this argument is a load of dingo's kidneys, but that didn't stop Oolon Colluphid making a small fortune when he used it as the central theme of his best-selling book, "Well, That about Wraps It Up for God." Meanwhile, the poor Babel fish, by effectively removing all barriers to communication between different races and cultures, has caused more and bloodier wars than anything else in the history of creation. I won't even attempt to use the babelfish translator link to translate this post. God knows what kinda war I'd start! [ 07-06-2003, 03:26 AM: Message edited by: LostInSpace ]

We italian reviewers are practically all sure that consoles will really rule the gaming world in the next years. Piracy on the consoles, also, is nothing, compared to the huge piracy on the PC. It's clear that developers and producers at the end will make games only on the consoles. It's the best way to... well, survive. Games piracy killed the PC. First thing, donÔÇÖt you know how game consoles are developed? On a PC thatÔÇÖs how. Do you think that 3dsmax, maya and all the other game development tool creators are going to rewrite and rewrite and rewrite all their software to run on the numerous console systems (while that particular console lasts that is). Nope too impractical and a massive waste of time and resources not to mention a support nightmare. Without the PC weÔÇÖd still be stuck with console games like PONG. And the only reason why the computer has evolved into the speed demons they are today is because of the PC gamers wanting better and faster computers and then the game developers taking advantage of the new power. Without this symbiotic relationship we would not have the computing power we have today on the PCÔÇÖs. But like any good relationship you have the proÔÇÖs and conÔÇÖs. Second, havenÔÇÖt youÔÇÖve been reading look at the Xbox fiasco in http://www.3000ad.com/ubb/ultimatebb.php?u...ic;f=7;t=002678.. No, well do so. I hate to tell you since the Playstation 1 the consoles have been hacked to play copied or pirated games either with a mod chip as with the Playstation 1 or a hacked software boot CD to bypass the consoles boot check as was done with the Sega Dreamcast. If we abide by your vision of the future and the PCÔÇÖs do die, donÔÇÖt you think that the best of the best PC hackers will turn their attention and energy into cracking the consoles. I think so. Hackers love nothing better than a difficult challenge especially when itÔÇÖs claimed that ÔÇ£This console canÔÇÖt be hackedÔÇØ and then make the knowledge known to the entire planet. So in the end the game developers are still stuck with the same dilema in which using your logic theyÔÇÖd stop making games then for the GameConsoles as well. So farewell to all games. No I donÔÇÖt think so. quote: Originally Posted by RVS Looks great all around, really looking forward to getting my hands on a copy ASAP!! See whatÔÇÖs happening is that the games That are being developed as of late are being created with the console in mind first and the PC second. Since console games are developed using the PC porting the game to a PC is a benefit to the game developer as to target that market but instead of going thru the trouble of redoing the Key/mouse input for the PC gamer they just chuck the game out the door and let the PC gamer deal with how heÔÇÖs going the be able to deal with it. Hopefully, the $150-$400 consoles will kill themselves by coming out with new versions of itself over and over again to the point where people will just say ÔÇ£What am I f***ing crazy spending this kind of money over and over again I could have a PC for a lot longer and the PC is more versitile.ÔÇØ

It's no wonder MS either ignores things or is slow to respond. *I heard rumors that Bill Gates bought the rights to Monopoly and has revamped it. It's new title is Microsoft Monopoly and they've replaced all the board company's with Tech Companies and Boardwalk has been replaced by Bill Gates Way. *(This is just a joke don't go all crazy looking for the info on the internet)

You might also want to use a diagnostic tool from your particular Hard Drive manufacture. So if you have a Western Digital you'll want to use Western Digital Diagnostics etc..... Just to verify that there are problems with the drive or if it's just XP bugging out. [ 07-05-2003, 01:47 AM: Message edited by: LostInSpace ]

Oh yeah, another game I forgot to mention if you happen to come across it in the bargain bin or something called Blade Of Darkness. Yes it's another one of those highly under-recognized games. I had alot of fun with that game. Go here http://www.gamespot.com/pc/action/bladeofdarkness/index.html again read the readers review as well as the in-house reviewer. That's what I did when I saw the game in Gamestop but didn't pick it up right away because I wanted to check out the review and after reading all the reviews I went and picked it up and I was not disappointed. To tell you the truth I more or less trust the readers review more than the in-house reviewers. However, I do use both to come to the conclusion on wether to buy the game or not. Anyway there are some video issues with the game but that can be solved very quickly by going here http://www.3dgamers.com/games/severance/ and dloading a file called RASTER.ZIP that file fixed all my video issues. You can also dload the demo there if you wanna check the game out it's 102mb. If you are wondering it was released in europe under the name Severance:Blade of Darkness. As a side note: Rebel Act Studios that developed the game is now defunct. Turns out two of their lead developers split from the company and for some reason they've never recovered. Anyway Check the Game out you might like it. I know I did. PS: Forgot to mention that body parts you hack off can also be picked up and used to beat up the guy it came from or any one else for that matter. So if you hack off an arm or leg or whatever, the bodies in this game are very hackable, well go for it..... . [ 07-05-2003, 01:58 AM: Message edited by: LostInSpace ]

  19. quote:Originally posted by Enigma: is Gothic any good? the Best Buy near here has some and im thinking about getting it. i like RPGs and i have Morrowind (i like how open it is). is this one worth nabbing up quick like? I have it and played it I picked it up a while ago from Gamestop (software etc.) for $20. Like I said in my other post I like it a bit better than morrowind. Though the graphics aren't on the same par as morrowind they are good and now Gothic 2 makes up for it. http://www.gamespot.com/pc/rpg/gothic/index.html Read the readers reviews they are more on target with the game. The in-house reviewers review I didn't altogether agree with. I would have given the game 8.5. There were a few grumblings about the controls for your character but once you play the game and get use to it the controls make sense and become second nature. Also, all the characters have their own dialog. So I would recomend picking it up if you like RPG's.
  20. quote:Originally posted by Rm: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/americas/3044178.stm quote: Lightning hits preacher after call to God A congregation in the United States was left stunned when lightning struck a church moments after a visiting preacher asked God for a sign. Church members in the town of Forest in the state of Ohio said the preacher had been emphasising the importance of penance when, in the course of his prayers, he called on the heavens above. The lightning struck the steeple, then hit the preacher himself when it travelled through electrical wiring to his microphone. Local authorities said he was not injured. "It was awesome, just awesome," said church member Ronnie Cheney, who was among the congregation when the strike hit, told the Findlay Courier newspaper. "You could hear the storm building outside... he just kept asking God what else he needed to say. "He was asking for a sign and he got one." Afterwards services resumed, however churchgoers realised after 20 minutes that the building was on fire and evacuated. "It was kind of interesting hearing the preacher talk about what had happened," Forest Fire Chief Doug Hawkin admitted. The fire was put out after three hours, but damage to the church is estimated at around $20,000. Damn, well nothing comes without a price I guess.
