New (for me, anyway*) and improved (with on-line saves and Guide-like graphics) text game of days gone by ... [*]The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy The website is new to me ... the game is not.

So it begins: Kansas school board redefines science
Marvin replied to LostInSpace's topic in Politics, Religion & Legal etc
quote:The fact that ID implies a supernatural entity as a conclusion does not mean you get to just dismiss it unargued because it doesn't fit people's contemporary notions of science as an exclusively materialist enterprise.Science doesn't accept the metaphysical. Ghosts might actually exist and mankind might have an inherent ability for mental telepathy but neither concept is taught in science class. Animals too tiny to see with the naked eye used to be part of the metaphysical world until the invention of the microscope. Then they became science. I personally don't believe in the Big Bang but it, nonetheless, can be used to predict the behavior of matter on a subatomic level. What can ID predict? -
Good start, cadet. Training Mission 1: Passed. Not much to comment on. Glad to see someone can appreciate his pilots enough to send them to the day side of a planet. Press on with the next mission.

In progress ... Travlyte, Welcome to the EarthCom branch of the Prime Fleet Academy. Here are your in-processing instructions: [*]Go to the Prime Fleet Academy webpage and download the cadet syllabus ... you should find it in the upper left window ... if necessary, scroll down until you see it. If you like, you can also download the Dash-1 checklist. Be advised that both the syllabus and checklist were designed for Universal Combat and, therefore, some information might be out of date. [*]Read through the material and make sure you understand it. If there's anything you don't understand (such as differences between UC and AWA), either post your question here or send me a PM. If I don't know the answer, I'll find someone who does. [*]Complete each of the training assignments, one at a time, in sequence. [*]After you've completed an assignment, zip it and send it to: [email protected] [*]The results of each mission will be posted here. Good luck, cadet. Enjoy your time in space.

Can someone awaiting trial be called to sit jury on another trial of a similar nature ... or would that be a conflict of interest? Personally, I plan to only shout "Oops, I was afraid this would happen" ... and have the good form not to demand anything as foolish as my constitutional right to enter the Pearly Gates. After all, I've been warned. -
San Francisco Voters Pass Gun Ban
Marvin replied to LostInSpace's topic in Politics, Religion & Legal etc
Just a side note ... quote:"George WashingtonÔÇÖs belief that arms are the liberty teeth of the people."Probably a poor choice of words on the president's part, if he said it exactly that way. Historians disagree on what type of choppers George Washington really had but many believe his teeth were false. Admittedly, it could be an urban legend, perpetrated in a direct effort to negate the above quote. quote:"Benjamin FranklinÔÇÖs admonition that those who would give up essential liberty to purchase a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety."That very same quote was used all too often by opponents of the Patriot Act. -

Remo, is this a training room? If so, I missed it ... sorry 'bout that. Could you possibley change the title so it matches the others? (I give "perusing" priority to threads specfically marked for training ... meaning, I read 'em even when I read nothing else.)

Okay, got your reply via PM. Indeed, you're correct about how easy it sometimes is to determine if a screenie was taken in MP v.s. SP. In fact, I checked your pix and determined, from the names of the targeted starstations, that you were, indeed, on line. Good work. Training Mission 5: Passed. Training Mission 6: Passed. As far as Prime Fleet is concerned, you have completed the course and are hereby awarded the following diploma: l PRIME FLEET ACADEMY l Certificate of Graduation & Commissioning ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] Attention to Orders: The Commandant, Prime Fleet Academy, does hereby certify that, Cadet Firestar has successfully completed the Academy Multiplayer training syllabus. By order of the Fleet Commander, Prime Fleet, this cadet has thereby earned the advantage of promotion to the rank of Ensign and assignment to an operational wing of EarthCom Fleet, GalCom. Signed this day, 01 November 3005 Fleet Commander Marvin G6 Staff Chief, Academy CO - Prime Fleet Since you're not being assigned to a Prime Fleet wing, I can't guarantee an operational slot ... and your promotion will be at the discretion of your FL. Nonetheless, as far as the Academy is concerned, you're ready for your initial check ride. Good luck, commander.

Jihad and jingoism on Iran's streets
Marvin replied to Soback's topic in Politics, Religion & Legal etc
quote:Originally posted by LostInSpace: quote:Originally posted by Soback: We should wipe not only the government of Israel, but also those of America and Britain off the map. But we don't mean their people." That statement made no sense at all. She probably meant each country's government. Like what was supposed to happen in Iraq ... get rid of the government and leave the people in peace. -
Firestar, a couple questions about the last two missions: 1. Was training mission 5 conducted on line? The reason I ask is because the chat window does not show in any of the screen shots ... that, by itself, doesn't necessarily mean the mission was conducted off line so please let me know how it was done. 2. The second screen shot in mission 6 was supposed to be taken from the DIE. Also, it would help to put the entire mission in one email for continuity ... to assure me you actually did the whole thing at one time. (Granted, you could be Jonathan Creek and figure a way to fake it but, if you work that hard at faking it, I'd probably give you credit anyway ... for creative thinking.) Thanks. Waiting to hear from you.

After you register with Prime Fleet, you need to go here at the Prime Fleet forum and let me know you're available for training. Also, read over all the stickies in the Academy section to get yourself up to speed. Thanks.

Training Mission 4: Passed. I'm glad to see you finally found a diplomat to protect. Now that I know it can be done, I'll be a little harder on the rest of the cadets.

First three training missions received in good condition. The results are as follows: Training Mission 1: Passed. Training Mission 2: Passed. Training Mission 3: Passed. Very nice shot of the shuttle from the OC, there at the last. Good work, cadet. Btw, if you can't find a TS server under the "3000AD" title, try a search using the word "Prime" or the phrase "Prime Fleet" ... it doesn't always work but it's usually worth a try. Press on with the next mission, cadet.

You won't have a whole lot of time for upgrading your vessel (assuming upgrades are allowed in the ROE).

Nice timing ... I'm back from my LOA. Do your training assignments on line ... which means: use AWA. I'll be checking my email daily for completed missions. P.S. Make sure you title each submission such that I: [*]a. Know it's from you. [*]b. Know which assignment(s) is/are included.

Darkling, you kind'a missed the requirement for the second shot in mission one. If you read what it says for evaluation, you'll see you need to take the second shot "prior to" the shuttle docking with your command craft. Otherwise I can't tell if it's the same SC. Training Mission 1: Incomplete.
-
Jayball, you sure do have enough names associated with your email. Anyway, I finally figured out who sent me MP missions 1 and 2 ... and you've done a pretty good job on both of them. Training Mission 1: Passed. The only comment I have is that it looked like you sent your shuttle pilot into a zone where it was fairly dark. When going planetside, it can get disorienting when you emerge in the dark where there's no visible horizon. Training Mission 2: Very good. No problems at all. Passed! If you haven't already done so, press on with the next mission.
