So go to: [*]The Fleet Database and register with Prime Fleet. [*]The Prime Fleet Forum and register there. Then go to the Academy General Discussions section, read up on all the stickies, and send me a PM when you're ready for training.

ALL active MP members...REPORT
Marvin replied to Shadow5731's topic in General Multiplayer Fleet Discussions
Yeah, if you check the deck I left on the table at the Alpha Wing Bar, you'll notice five cards are missing ... all clubs. As you can see, had it not been for the miss-deal, I would've won the pot. -
This thread has got to be the most impressive example of after-the-fact program debugging I've ever seen.

quote:Originally posted by Shadow5731: Meanwhile, I'm gonna just do to myself after all this while waiting for the decision. It has been my experience that the SC will often one-up whatever punishment you decide, on your own, to lay upon yourself. Therefore, I suggest you only smack yourself with a trout, thusly: ... and prepare yourself for a good clubbing. If you do the clubbing yourself, what recourse do you leave the SC? -

quote:Originally posted by Supreme Cmdr: For example, say you saw a transport ship in our game and it was bearing the UPS or FEDEX logo on the side, how would you react? Note also that for years, sports games (e.g. racing, golf etc) have featured logos from real-world companies (e.g. Coca Cola, Penzoil etc)....Yeah, as long as they're realistic. The ads in sport games usually reflect those seen in real life ... painted on race cars, pasted on billboards in ball parks ... Fed Ex trucks and planes used as a cover for some secret organization on a now-defunct TV program. Just as long as it doesn't turn out to be a foot-in-the-door, "slippery slope" situation. The kind that allows someone to agrgue, "What's wrong with a few pop-ups ... nobody complained when we started pasting ads on jump gates??" Realism. That's all I ask for. But keep in mind that Pan Am never actually made it to the moon-shuttle business.

quote:Originally posted by Ben Zwycky: The ribbons idea is an excellent one, Marvin, and shouldn't be hard to set up almost immediately, well before we have the final medal designs voted for. This discussion should be contuinued here Before you take this thread elsewhere, you might want to look at designs for ribbons that already exist: [*]US Army [*]US Navy [*]US Marine Corps [*]US Air Force [*]US Coast Guard Some U.S. veterans who have been awarded these medals take a dim view of anyone using the same design. My guess is some vets of other countries would feel the same. So, when you design a medal, do the impossible: try to come up with a (slightly) different design.

Yeah. Welcome.

Funny stuff. And so was one of the links discussing Trek vs Wars.

Now I know why it's not a good idea to hand out Babble fish for free. Anyway, Munc (or Munch, as the case may be), I guess every fleet should have at least one guy who can hold up both ends of a conversation. That being said, you can mojo on over to the Prime Fleet Forum and register ... but first you should register in the Fleet Database, of course. Once registered, you will soon thereafter receive a "welcome aboard" letter outling all your in-processing requirements. Courtesy of FC Remo and our Admin Officer, Dennymala. Good luck, Munc-Munch.

LOL. Okay. Thanks.

The first Superman, in Action Comics, wasn't very tall ... neither was Kirk Alyn, who played him in the old movie serials. But the red pants were part of his costume because, originally, Superman wasn't much more than a guy with very tough skin and muscles of steel ... kind of a cross between a circus strong man (ergo the pants and cape) and Hercules (which is why he originally wore high-topped sandals). Personally, I'm more interested in what Lois looks like ... they never seem to get it right ... except, maybe, Terry Hatcher. Or what's-her-name on Smallville.

The database is usually purged and/or corrected on a regular basis ... once a month of not more often.

For prospective cadets, when the Prime Fleet website comes back up, register ... then, when your registration is accepted, go to the general Academy section and report in. You'll then be given a training thread of your own. While waiting for your bunk assignment, read over other posts at the Academy and other sections of Prime Fleet.

Yeah, and I'd tell you to get to know your classmate, Shadow ... but, at the rate Shadow is doing his training, you'll probably only pass him to say "hello" as he walks out the Academy door for his first assignment.

Anyone who has been to Europe or lives in Europe: I need yer advice
Marvin replied to a topic in General Chatter
quote:Originally posted by Tac: Hows Italy/France and Spain like in november? too cold? rainy? snow? Well, every year is different. I toured Florence and Pisa in early December, 1984 and the weather was no problem ... as long as you wore a coat. Granted, the trees were bare and I don't recall seeing many flowers but it didn't really matter ... I was more interested in taking pictures of churches, statues and paintings. And leaning towers. Btw, make sure they have a map of whatever city it is they're visiting. In Italy, a lot of the things you'd want to see are hidden away in some small alcove or piazza*. If they forget to bring one from the States, have 'em pick one up at their hotel, as soon as they arrive, or any street-corner magazine stand. * The English translation is "square" ... but what's-his-name on Good Morning America is the only person I know who takes it literally ... and asks (on national TV) why a "square" (piazza) is round. -
I predict from this posting by Tim Bisley: That, within a year's time, more people will think the restaurant at "the end of the universe" means this: quote:Go and see this movie because I really want to go and see the restaurant on the other side of the universe! ... than what it does, in fact, actually mean. But then, the original meaning is a play on people's preconceived expectations ... the movie, evidently, only plays to those expectations.

What are you going to look like in 40 years?
