Tac, What types of things interest your parents? Scenery? Art? History? Film locations? Beaches? The reason I ask is because it could make a big difference in where to send them. If you're a Roman history buff, you should visit Rome, Naples, and ... most certainly ... Pompei. Italian art? If you don't spend a couple days in Florence, you might as well stay home. When it comes to riding the train, I only have one piece of advice: don't be surprised if a third-class ticket-holder doesn't take your first-class seat. Even with a brassy Italian for a wife, I spent the entire trip from Naples to Rome standing up. Nonetheless, having someone who speaks the language can make all the difference ... especially in France. Oh, and here's one tip I gave my brother-in-law ... he laughed at it but did it anyway. They (my sister and family) decided to spend their vacation in Rome ... staying in a convent (my wife worked out the details but didn't get it in writing so, naturally, the nuns upped the price after the fact). I told her husband to buy a cheap wallet, put pictures of the Holy Family in it, and put it in his back pocket ... where he usually kept his real wallet. He then hung his real wallet around his neck. It worked like a charm. During one of their excursions on the subway, my brother-in-law was "relieved" of his cheap wallet ... but his money and credit cards remained in tact. Note: As far as my own experiences go, the above is only a problem in Rome, when riding crowded subways or busses. Elsewhere, just keep your valuables close at hand ... or in the hotel safe.

Certainly not when you announce ... you could be halfway across the galaxy before deciding to "announce" that you've begun. But that does bring up a good question. Since a player's launch point isn't necessarily the starstation, isn't it possible to, through the luck of the draw, get a head start ... if you were launched near the jump point? Unless the race starts at the point in the log where you transition to Rovarix.

Is that in the handbook or are we looking to find version 8 on the horizon?

Well, Ben, I had my first go-round with your "Eye in the Sky" scenario tonight (testing with Chavik and Seedog) and now have a couple questions: 1. If the transports for both sides can only move between Foron and Junae, was it your intention to give the Ter/Mil team an advantage? Guardstar is a Ter/Mil starstation ... one that can be used for protective cover (the station will fire on an approaching insurgent ship). The Ter/Ins have no such place of refuge. 2. The shielding of an armed transport is rather skimpy. Is it okay for a transport to dock prior to the beginning of the match for an upgrade or two? Note: Be advised that if a player accidently launches in the wrong craft, he/she should exit to desktop and start over. Else, other players (not the player him/herself) might erroneously see the first ship in the VDD, HUD and TacOps.

The finale reminded me why the Sci-Fi channel sux. Masking out nudes from the shoulders down was not cool at all. I remember seeing a few really racy episodes of "Outer Limits" in Italy. It didn't surprise me a bit to see them again, years later on Sci-Fi, sans the racy parts. It just isn't worth watching half a TV program.

To repeat that which is probably most important: No commanding officer wants to be in a situation where his men pay a lesser penalty for "departing the fix" than for staying to face the enemy. A dishonorable discharge might sound like a terrible thing, sitting here, reading the forum. But it starts to look better and better when the bullets start flying ... and you come face-to-face with the very possible alternative. Consequently, to keep a soldier from abandoning his comrades under fire, the alternative must be equally displeasing. Otherwise, a commander is likely to find that a few of his men/women could care less about a signed contract. Especially when the Pentagon has also been pushing traditional military contractual obligations beyond the normal limits.

In a time of war, he could be shot. No commanding officer wants to be in a situation where his men pay a lesser penalty for "departing the fix" than for staying to face the enemy. The military mentality changes a little with each generation. But it wouldn't be out of the norm for a board to decline his application, considering the circumstances. Usually, for someone to receive such a waiver, he/she needs to be in a position of "no gain." Meaning, the board can be reasonably certain his interests are solely religious and not primarily driven by concern for personal safety. For example, a fighter pilot will likely be granted the waiver if, in peacetime, he is later assigned to bombers and given "failsafe" duties ... which causes him to reevaluate his ability to do his job should war break out. But, if he waits until war has already started to make application ... yeah, right. Not likely.
