  1. Rip provided us with one a couple of months back for private fleet stuff, so we used it for matches as well, since server logs are easier to work with than client logs.
  2. There are guys that fight hard, and there are guys that fight smart. Which set of guys is going to get a regular pummelling from the other? ISS Fleet houses Galcom's primary intelligence network and is tasked with protecting it's most vital assets, which means taking out any actual or potential threat, no matter how strong or well-organised, and we are very good at what we do. We fight very hard and very smart. Q: What do I do when facing ISS Fleet in battle? A: Run. Q: What about when I have them outnumbered? A: Run. You just might live to tell about it*. (*That is, if Wraith Fleet operatives didn't slit your throats before you even left spaceport)
  3. Fine looking boy you have there, Cruis' I should update the pics on my family site sometime
  4. Everyone has their own ship (except if you're a marine on the surface), you can choose various careers giving you a fighter, shuttle, transport, cruiser, or carrier. In an official fleet match or mission, you'll be assigned a specific role within the flight group, as well as a specific ship type for the mission. You can just give someone your IP and have them join your game, if your upload speed is good enough, but running a server and client on the same machine requires a powerful rig, otherwise you'll need a dedicated server to connect to (requiring a second computer and copy of the game for whoever is hosting, unless they won't be joining the session). We just have several of us with good upload speeds and spare machines, and one very powerful permanent server with a very powerful upload speed (2.4Mbit/s), I'll see if I can get UC installed on that as well (at the moment that just has UCAWA on it for the fleet season).
  5. we (the fleets) do have the ability to set up UC MP servers on request (we'd have to know the date and time for the session and arrange to have a server up at that time), we don't have any permanent servers set up for UC atm, just for UCAWA. Those servers are just for members of a fleet to use, so you'd need to join a fleet first to use those. Fleets also have their own training programs, and organise interfleet matches. All your UC MP problems will be solved by joining a fleet, and replaced with different ones . Seriously though, fleet membership is the way to get involved in mp.
  6. I haven't seen any public UCAWA or UCSE servers online this past week, either via the lobby or in-game browser. Anything wrong from your end, or is it just me?
  7. Congratulations, Ixos!
  8. Mission outcome: successful. Spectre Fleet correctly guessed the target region, but Wraith's escorts were able to intercept every attempt to take out their transport, which was able to beam in and retrieve it's specops team, who did significant damage to Spectre's infrastructure. In the next encounter between Spectre and Wraith, Spectre will be unable to use cloaking technology. ISS Fleet is up now. ISS Fleet team leader, your mission order please.
  9. nice work, Chav!
  10. documents sent

    Hi

Congrats on the engagement, Echo! No shame in driving a mini van, we have a 7-seater MPV (Seat Alhambra), unbelievably useful for all kinds of things.
  12. This thread is for after action reports from Fleet Action MP matches. They don't have to be in the format given below, they can be more roleplaying in style or more informal, they just need to give people an idea of what went on in the match from your perspective. [report] From: Strategic Commander Ben Zwycky To: Tacops Commander Randy Karynia Subject: Limited skirmish with Insurgent forces Wraith's forces were spread thin, only two craft remained available in the system when the intel burst came in, the GCV Args, a Starcruiser-class heavy cruiser under the command of Commander Ixos and the GCV Svoboda, a Violon-class heavy carrier commanded by Strategic Commander Ben Zwycky, taking part in a joint CIOPS/wraith operation at the time. According to the intel, Spectre Fleet were attempting to consolidate their position in one of two regions by colonising the planet, so thin defenses were spread even thinner, The Args patrolling in Procon while the Svoboda watched Somaris. After a period of calm, Commander Ixos reported Insurgent vessels entering his region from Tapestran, a Tarin mk1 armed transport and an escorting Sunflash class heavy cruiser, both fast and nimble craft for their type, but the transport with a relatively low cargo capacity. Strategic Commander Zwycky immediately ordered his vessel to Procon, but it had only just emerged from a routine patrol hyperspace at the time and was still 2 jumps away, so Commander Ixos would have to handle things on his own for a while. The Sunflash immediately engaged him, buying the transport precious seconds to recharge it's hyperdrive and jump to the planet, successfully making planetfall and unloading it's cargo. Commander Ixos successfully destroyed the escort vessel, but took heavy engine damage in the process and was forced to scuttle the ship after an orderly evacuation of his crew back to the station by shuttlecraft, where he picked up a new vessel of the same type and jumped back to the entry point the insurgent forces had used. The second wave of Insurgent forces re-used the successful formula of their first wave, with similar results- the escort craft was lost, though this time with no damage to the Args, which jumped after the transport, but too late to prevent it successfully breaching the planet's atmosphere. By this time the Svoboda was in the region, though too late to influence the outcome of this engagement. The Svoboda jumped to the jumpgate between Procon and Tapestran and set itself up in time to intercept the third wave, taking out the transport with a lethal missile barrage. The Svoboda and Args then set up a heavy blockade around the jumpgate, taking out wave after wave of Insurgent craft, who could not find a way through, until Insurgent forces apparently abandoned their plans. The troops that were landed are not sufficiently well supplied to last long under the harsh conditions on the planets surface, and the Insurgents are well enough positioned to gather forces for a reinforcement convoy, so we are currently utilising our special forces units to ensure that the transports that did make it through were only Pyrrhic victories. [end report]
  13. Mission outcome: unsuccessful. Spectre Fleet landed only 37,000 tons of cargo and troops on the planet's surface, which is unsufficient to build a sustainable and defensible base network on the planet. The troops that they have landed are hurriedly building temporary shelters to protect themselves from the fierce heat and violent sandstorms that are typical of Nevuela's harsh desert climate. If Spectre is unable to sufficiently resupply these troops in another planetfall mission in their next mission order, their temporary life support systems will fail and they will succumb to the elements and be lost. It is now Wraith Fleet's turn to give a mission order, which is as follows: Fleet: Wraith Fleet Order: Special Operation Target Region: Nevuela Proposed Times: Sunday, September 24, 2006 from 5:30PM GMT or Sunday, October 1, 2006 from 5:30PM GMT Once a date and time is agreed on, then detailed documents will be submitted to the document handlers.
  14. After being hit several times with a claw hammer? That's one tough lady. A nurse at the hospital where my mum worked once pinned a gang hitman to a wall with a chair until help could arrive, the guy was there to finish off another gang member in intensive care at the time. She got cut pretty badly and was later awarded a medal for bravery, but I think she was a lot younger than 51. I think the message of all this is never underestimate a nurse.
  15. So sad, so sad... Then there's this Or even this illustration of corporate greed.
  16. Sorry to hear that, Marc. Of course you'll be welcome to stay in the team. Prez is now in charge of the ISS Fleet team, I would like to nominate Jack Decker as vice leader. What do you say, Jack?
  17. No, I haven't yet, still in two minds (working on so many projects at the moment, not sure I want to start another) I probably will at some point, though.
  18. Good to hear Prime's fleet leader is made of sterner stuff. Here's to a rapid full recovery
  19. according to the Customer Preview Program page quote: Windows Vista RC1 is time-limited, pre-release software that will expire on June 1, 2007. So if that means it has an in-built inactivation timer, it's not really worth downloading for anything other than trying out. If that means they just won't support it any more, I can live with that. I just don't want to spend a week of overnight download sessions (I figure that's about how long it would take on my connection) for something that'll only work for 9 months.
  20. OK, that date and time is accepted by Wraith Fleet leadership. Please send your detailed mission description documents to the document handlers, so that the relevant documents can be passed on. See you at 4.30pm GMT on Sunday September 17th on the 3000ad teamspeak server. If that is not running, then we will meet on Rip's teamspeak server. Let's get it on!
  21. Not so nice. I lost count of how many times I had surgery to save my what was left of my top left incisor (Was snapped in half and bent backwards 45 degrees after a rugby accident (caught a stud in the mouth and wasn't wearing a gumshield)). It was all paid for by the natioanl health service, since I was still living in England at the time. It happened a few weeks before my 16th birthday, so I went through the treatment in the children's dental hospital for the next 3 or so years- I was by far the oldest patient there. Eventually they basically ground it down to a stub and put a cap on it to match the rest of my teeth (the cap subsequently fell off and had to be replaced 4 or 5 times, the most inconvenient time was in the channel tunnel on the way to meet my first girlfriend (now wife) in person for the first time).
  22. Basically someone was hired to buy and take apart an Xbox360 and turn it into a laptop computer, which he did, giving it a widescreen LCD display, a customised water cooling system, case and keyboard with a total thickness of 2.8 inches and weighing 14 pounds in total IIRC, using numerous hacks in the process. That about right, SC?
  23. It was working yesterday, I guess Bill wanted it closed down, since it revealed that Xbox chip smashers are a myth.
  24. The greenwich meantime site is also very useful, as it automatically tells you what your time zone is relative to GMT (including daylight saving time, and informs you when that changes), so you don't have to go looking it up somewhere else.
