  1. My original AE was Randalf Carter of HP Lovecraft's The Dream Quest of Unknown Kadath fame and the ship (a Jenstar and later a Questar) was the UCV-Kadath. When I joined GalCom, I took up my real name of Tyrn Marcel and took command of a newly commissioned Megaron, the GCV-Falcon. I've always been partial to raptors and while eagles (especially harpy eagles) are my favorites, GCV-Falcon carries a bit more appeal than the GCV-Harpy. PS There is the possibility that the GCV-Falcon might be recommissioned in the near future but that's another story.
  2. Seems I'm late for the poll but it went as I would have basically voted anyway. As to the voice communications, take a quick look at http://www.battlecom.org/. This is the technology that Microsoft bought to create GameVoice. Just remember that running third party software in conjunction with BC titles is strictly at your own risk.
  3. quote:Originally posted by Grayfox: please if you are going to post further about religion, be nice. no flaming, or badmouthing, or none of the "my religion is better than yours" crap.We don't tolerate anything more flame-like than respectful disagreement around here. But on your statement about not believing the church, all churches have one flaw that they share: People, people make mistakes. Anyone who claims differently needs a reality check but that's another long post and I'm not up to it. As to Jaguar's question: quote:Originally posted by Jaguar: I find it fascinating that so many commanders have stated that their religion helps them get a handle on life. For some reason it surprises me and I am not sure why. Myself, I am about as agnostic as they come. Why do your religions help you so much? I am asking a serious question here, because I really do not understand how or why religion is so important to some people. For me, religion explains so many of the behind the scenes things that happen every day. Examples: Why did I look at that Ford's front tire as he pulled into the lane next to me and think "His tire's going to blow" and so slowed down only to watch his tire blow out and the truck swerve into the emergency lane right through the space my care would have occupied? Or why does it make me so happy to help someone out? Or why do I feel like I've known the person I just met for years instead of just a moment or two? The list goes on and on and on but religion explains to me how and sometimes why these things can happen (the above are all true experiences from the past month). It is very comforting to know that when it seems that there is nowhere else to turn that God is just a prayer away. It's even better knowing He's also just a prayer away when I want to say "Thanks" because that Ford didn't hit me.
  4. quote:Originally posted by Chicki: Thanks for the reply SC. Still can't see how to access the cargo pod or how to eject it. Also, what is the procedure for transfering a "fighter asset" from the cargo bay to the fighter bay? It seems it doesn't show up automatically in the fighter bay after you purchase a new fighter. Great game. Having a blast. Thanks. You have cargo pod access in Logistix (don't eject the pod or you'll lose that fighter). You move the fighter from the Tactical computer, select load out and the missing fighter slot and you'll be presented with the option to move the new fighter.
  5. quote:Originally posted by EAGLE: Wow everyone is so deep here. That's the best thing about this community. I'm LDS (a Mormon to the unwashed ) and we tend to be the favorite whipping boy for many a forum and newsgroup. This place is very different though, everyone tries to be respectful (not tolerant) of each other and so people are much more willing to really express what's going on inside their hearts and minds as long as it does not involve wishing for a new cloaking Questar or some such.
  6. quote:Originally posted by Dredd: I appreciate all of the responses, and I still want to have additional responses to my first post so I can get a better perspective on life, but the responses, especially Tyrn's, brings up another dilemma: If a major point of life is to raise and protect and make your family and kids happy, and a major point of their lives is to do the same with their family, is there really a point? It's just repetition through the generations with no real evolution of society, isn't it?You're close but at the same time missing the point by miles, don't feel bad about that as it's often the obvious things that can take a lifetime to notice. The point of life was once described like this quote:. . . and men are that they might have joy.The point, for right here and right now, is to be happy. It sounds too easy doesn't it? As to the evolution of society, if every person were truly happy with their lives would our society have nearly the problems we do with anger and violence? Happiness, real happiness and not just whiling away life with bigger and newer toys, is a good indicator whether we're living the life we want to live or whehter we're just going through the motions. To be perfectly honest though, if life were ONLY an endless cycle beginning with birth and ending with death as you decribed then you are right that it would be entirely pointless. Thankfully, life doesn't begin with birth nor does it end with death. I hinted at this in the first post (paragraph three and it's related summary). Our lives began as children of God long before we were born. We lived with Him and were quite happy. As our Father, God wants us to be like Him so He taught us all he could. There came a time when we needed to learn from our own experiences though and so we were born here. Our lives here are, as you noted, cycles of being protected and loved and then protecting and loving. Because we all do stupid things that bring sorrow and misery instead of happiness, God provided a Savior, Jesus Christ, so we could be forgiven on the condition that we learn from our mistakes and do what we can to correct them. If we follow that fairly simple plan, after death we will continue to learn from and become like God. You can find more details about this here or fire away more questions here. Whether you chose to believe it is, of course, up to you but I will tell you this Dredd: I know that this is the real point in living life. 7. Agreed, took me less than three minutes to find the relevant section. Your punishment is one night on the town under Resnig's supervision.
  8. Thankfully, I'm not just a cog in the works as it were. I love my job and am very rarely bored by the work. I work as a programmer and LAN admin for a waste water reclamation plant and if all 75 employees don't pull their weight, thousands of basements are going to become cess pools or the local riverways will be poisoned beyond recovery. More importantly, my career is only a side job. My real job title is husband and father of (soon to be - Feburary) four. Without me, there is no hand for my wife to hold. Without me, there is no tickle monster to make my children squeal with delight. Without them, there is no reason for me. On a grander scale, I recognize the divine parentage of humanity and more personally, I recognize that I am a child of God. As I love my children and want them to grow up wiser and happier than I am, I know that my Eternal Father loves me even more than I love my own children and wants even more for me. It all sounds a bit arrogant but boil it down and you'll find it works well for just about everybody: Get someone to pay you for something you like to do. Recognize the importance of your role (whatever it may be) in your family. Recognize that you are the child of loving parents and that their greatest goal is for you to be truly happy.
  9. Thankfully nothing lately but school just started up and now we have two in the petri dish so we should be having twice the fun as we did last year any time now.

  13. Forgot about this thread for a bit. Here's some step by step (from memory so don't shoot me) on docking at a starbase. Remember only support craft (shuttles, fighters and smaller) can dock planet side. Fly to the region with a planet having a starbase Observe the planet in TACOPS before you make planet fall Use the Zoom To function in TACOPS to locate the base (you'll have to figure out how to do this on your own... ) Set a way point for your shuttle near the base Make planet fall and make sure your radar is active (you'll hear a beep if it is, if it isn't hit R) Use the mouse to select ground targets (click the GND icon on the radar screen) and select the starbase from the pop-up menu Press Alt+D to dock when you are within range [ 08-22-2002, 03:11 PM: Message edited by: Tyrn ]
  14. quote:Originally posted by St0nkingByte: I was in Tau Ceti(sp?) when the SC was stolen. I didn't realize it could go that far that fast Anyway no chance of recovering it as I was attacked and destroyed as soon as I turned around to go back for the SC. I'm such a n00b Back to reading the manual...Well, since the surprise was spoiled by you being destroyed anyway...it was a setup. Just for kicks, try taking a ship into Pluto's atmosphere as see what happens.
  15. There's a search function on this site (see it up there at the top right?) use it. Hunger factors are explained in detail in another thread. You crew will go off duty when they feel the need a rest, trust them on that. Debris fields might come back at a later date. Now go do some searching. Thread closed. 17. quote:Originally posted by St0nkingByte: OK then it's what I thought it was. I was mostly confused because I still had status on that SC. I don't have status for SC4, I guess it was destroyed. I imagine locating a shuttle on a planet might be a little difficult. Or do I (or my crew) actually know where it is? Could I send another shuttle down to Pluto and tell it to escort SC3 then once it homes in on it have it land and order crew to go to SC3? Of course I'm still getting a major kick out of the fact that you can leave space for atmosphere and then land and get out. I don't want to spoil the fun too much but as to locating the shuttle, that's the easy part. Just go to tacops and observe Pluto (once you're in the region of course) then use the zoom function (big cube little cube icon on the top right) to zoom into the shuttle. Now the shuttle might be listed under support craft or it might be listed under one of the other menus as it can now actually be considered an enemy craft. Anyway, set a waypoint for whatever ship you plan to use for the rescue in the vacinity of the stolen shuttle and then let the fireworks begin! Make sure that you report back on how well the mission goes and as this seems to be your first venture into this brave new world, save often.

Works everytime.

  24. If memory serves, he's been capturing stations along the way. With launch control down, planetfall would be suicidal unless you have the parts to repair launch control and still have a working shuttle. If you don't have the parts and a shuttle then life is a bit harder. Your best bet is a shuttle tow if you can manage it as has been mentioned. There is another alternative if a tow is out of the question. If your hyperdrive is functional you can probably still make it. Target the least hostile jump gate, preferably one with a captured station on the other side, and enter hyperspace. Stormcarriers are the galactic slugs of command craft (as we all know). The hostiles should reach your exit point first and begin heading back toward you through real space. With luck they will put enough distance between themselves and your exit point that you can get through the jump gate and limp away. WHAT AM I DOING? I've just given advice to a Gammulan commander who just randomized Earth. Someone shoot me please, now! PS Please note that the above hyperjump ploy is likely to get you killed in MP as real commmanders and pilots know to just sit and wait for you to limp out of hyperspace and then finish you off.
