To give you an example of the fear that the current administration is spreading in our country; I became disabled by a stroke in November of 2001. I applied for Social Security disability. My application was summarily denied which forced me to retain an attorney and appeal the decision. One year later I finally get a hearing, which was decided in my favor and my application for the benefits I have been contributing to all my working life was finally approved. My significant other is a Worrier by nature and the other evening she asked me to be careful with my postings on this board. I said "WOT"!!!! "Why?" Her reply was that she feared I couldsomehow lose my benefits if our government became annoyed with what I have to say about them. My lady and I are Soulmates, and for the first time in eight blissful years, I yelled at her. " I have the RIGHT of free speech and if the government wants to attempt to take it away, there's going to be hell to pay!" In essence, that fundamental right was already stolen from me by my wish to not cause her anymore fear and worry. Living in near poverty conditions for over a year can do that to you. The current war being fought today is not the war to free the Iraqi people. It's not the war against Terrorism either. Nor is it the war on drugs. It's the war declared on our very freedoms by an unseen army of greedy people who are hiding in the very government that is claiming to be protecting our freedom. They are wielding the most dangerous weapon you can imagine..."FEAR"

More often than not, it is by design that this is done. It's what you don't see that matters most, All the little background details that are hidden from view and never brought to light. I can understand your viewpoint, DeepFreeze, as narrow as it is. Should we keep on running the Rat race with the blinders on so we don't see who falls beside us? Should we just spend some tax money on a couple of dozen concentration camps? Certainly cheaper than buiding secure prisons to warehouse these government created miscreants, and we can get the first batch of prisoners to build their own housing structures by giving them an incentive to build : Work or sleep in the mud. Once these miscreants are out of the public eye, sequestered deep in some forest or gator infested swamp, then we can sterilize them to our hearts content and it's guaranteed that they won't be doing anymore drugs or breeding more children into the same morass they grew up in. How about we call the first one "Area 52" Certainly a good place to put the first draftees who are not fit for military service, as guards. Can we compile a list of other people who don't fit our patriotic productive role in American society? How about everyone who is drawing welfare or disability? They certainly fit the mold of a drain on our society. Lock them up too, then ever so quietly channel them into a TDP apparatus and make oil out of them. That cures the need to feed them. et joila, problem solved. I think we have forgotten the most basic concept here folks. We are free to pursue our God given right of freedom. If we take that away from the least of us, then we take it away from all of us. Is that what you really want? Here we go again, The blind leading the blind. This poor woman is nothing more than another victim of a wholesale Eugenics project. First off, do you know anyone who is addicted to Cocaine? They have no proclivity to share their drugs with anyone, especially their children! If the woman was using drugs while pregnant, the fetus would get some of it. If a hair sample drug test was used on these children, it would come back positive for anything the mother ingested. If a standard blood test were done it is likely to show little or no traces of anything in their system. I would bet that, if any of us here had experimented with an illegal substance in our young, dumb, and not very wise school days, and had a drug test using a hair sample done, we would all show up as positive. Blinded by sensational claims you are. Next... Why would this woman waive her right to counsel? Mayhaps because of some threat by the prosecutor? A prosecutor who was looking to add another notch to his/her belt as window dressing for future personal political aspirations? Drug addicted women have a tendency to lean toward prostitution to fuel the habit. Which adds a convenient vehicle for the spread of communicable diseases like AIDS. Can you honestly judge this person as a less than desirable human in our society because she has a serious problem? Not to mention limited facts from a very sketchy article. I saw no mention of any previous attempts to get this woman into drug rehab, just a recommendation for mental health counseling and planned Parenthood classes. Would you want to plunge yourself into the morass of our mental healthcare system. I know of very few people who have emerged from that snake pit. Even if the attempt was made, did they have the resources to pay the bills? I doubt it. Most Addicts are from poor families, living in less than desirable curcumstances. The hopelessness of poverty and the pressure associated with illegal drugs is like locking an alcoholoic in a liquor store for a weekend. Do not be so quick to judge unless you have walked in this womans' world. Do not blind yourself to government driven media hoopla. The wool will keep your eyes warm, but won't stop you from walking into traffic. So Jag, Are you now saying that my conspiracy theories have merit? I learned about the assembly line process of the public school system during my 12 year incarceration in one. My high school looked so much like a prison we started calling it a prison. I was a bit rebellious in my studies. I would constantly run past the curriculum time table, so as to prevent boredom, and more often than not, make the teachers look like blithering fools. It was fun. A select few of my classmates and I were given a special aptitude test during my Freshman year. My results returned a verdict of: "Student is capable of Junior year college studies. It was at that moment that I realized something was seriously amiss because after taking that test. My Counselor was doing nothing to steer me toward higher education. Which is what a Counselors' job is supposed to be. Instead I was forced into mandatory class subjects that I already knew. They gave us only the bare minimum of elective subjects. Just enough to keep us from spilling out of the proverbial mold. Busy work so to speak. I spent many a class hour reading books I had checked out of the school library. The gentleman in your link is absolutely correct. Public schooling does nothing to create free thinking adults. It only creates mass quantities of under developed worker bees for the Corporate taskmasters. This also became more evident to me when my son went through the same ringer. He was given an aptitude test in eighth grade. Their test results showed him to have an aptitude toward law enforcement. His Freshman year classes, that he and I had mulled over and picked to be closer to his actual interests, were summarily tossed in the round file. Instead he was "FORCED" into classes designed to steer him toward a career in law enforcement. When I saw his Freshman class schedule I was Fricking LIVID! After meeting with his Freshman counselor and voicing my displeasure about the literal stab in the back, I came really close to beating the shit out of the man. He tried to make his case by using that stupid test as evidence and he adamantly refused to change the boys' classes. Then he tried the old car salesman tactic. "Let's give the classes a shot, he might like them." At that point I was seeing red and I told him, "You either straighten this out and give my son the classes he signed up for, or I'll pull him out of here so fast your head will swim. Naturally he began blithering that, "it's the law and you can't do that." crap. I said, "Watch me *******." I pulled my homeschool card. He was still blithering as we walked out of the office. I swear I heard some female snickering coming from some of the other little offices. As we stepped out of the main doors and headed down the steps, my son couldn't contain himself any longer. He said," Daaaayum Dad." and busted out laughing. Ya know, it's funny. A few years back, when the stories about internet taxation first trickled onto the web, I sent a letter to my congress critter voicing my displeasure of the very idea of it. I received this nice parchment like letter from the Congress critter telling me that no such thing would ever be allowed to happen. Fees for telephone come through the FCC at the behest of the current administration. The FCC is not a seperate entity. It is just another department of the Federal government that oversees control of communication in this country, and a front for collecting money for "other" things that would raise a stink if money was appropriated from the treasury. Kind of like the gold toilet seats on military transport planes. Make your own conclusions.

Hershy decided against building the plant and went elsewhere. This has happened numerous times. We have renamed CAN-DO to CAN-DON'T. With this line of thinking, CAN-DON'T found themselves with a large problem. Not enough people to work the low wage jobs they created. Many people sought work in the larger cities to the south, other industrial parks not under their control or they outright packed up and moved out.The Real Estate folks have had a field day. The local churches were enlisted to import Hispanic peoples from all over to fill these low wage positions. Most from Mexico. I have seen whole families pile out of one car at a place I worked. They don't buy property here, only rent a place where several families live and share the expenses. Their children are educated in our school system, placing this burden on local land owners with property taxes and more local income taxes on everyone. What really sucks is Milady and I don't have any school age children, and if we did, they would be home schooled like Jags' kids. The schools suck that bad! ok, enough, I'm rambling.LOL Plain and simple, Big Business is what controls our country now. Not our elected Representatives. That is oh so true, LIS. It was the big corporate money lobby from Big Oil and Big Pharmaceuticals that persuaded DC to ban Cannibus and it's cousin Hemp. Recent medical research has shown that Cannibus has no addictive effects and actually provides better pain relief than Aspirin and most Opium based pain killers. Even so, it is classified above Heroin on the governments' harmful substance chart. And we all know Hemp makes better rope and clothing than Nylon ever could, Using only the oil needed to run the farm equipment used for tilling it.(insert double middle finger Graemlin here) directed at the Big money behind Big Government. Bayer(the man who brought us mustard gas and holocaust human experimentation) cried because he couldn't sell enough aspirin, and DuPont cried because he couldn't sell enough of his new Nylon wonder material, due everyone's preference for goods made from Hemp fiber. So our steadfast Stewards in DC smiled and said, " Don't worry boys, we'll fix everything for ya." Right before they deposited the big campaign checks in their accounts.

I would hand them the phone line, with newly clamped on bare fork connectors exposed, then tell the guy I needed to check something real quick. I would then go to the main connector block in the building and hook a test set to it and dial the dedicated line number for the dialer. 80 ringer volts dc pumped into those bare copper connectors and... VDSL will be great if all our little Baby Bells decided to run Fiber Optic cabling, which is a tad expensive. In the mean time, we are limited on how far we can be from the central office, to get DSL. I'm lucky enough to have a CO right up the road from my house, probably a mile or so. As communication lines are updated, the new lines are now buried instead of being strung on poles. Fiber Optic is the best choice for these replacements due to the number of fibers in a cable, If one happens to break somewhere in the middle it only needs to be switched to another fiber. This is being done, slowly but surely but it's going to take awhile to complete. If the US government had left Ma Bell intact our communication services would be rivaled by no one. For example; The telephones supplied by Bell were extremely rugged, almost bullet proof. My parents had one for over 30 years before it finally puked out. I'm sure it would have lasted another 30 years by simply replacing the dialing keypad. Now you have to go to a store and buy a cheap POS phone that will break if you look at it wrong. Made in America used to mean something; First quality goods that lasted a long time. No more. It's all engineered and built cheap in foreign countries as throw away junk, to perpetuate consumerism. For US companies it has become the same ideology out of necessity for survival. It's sad really.

Basic training in the United States Military is just what it says it is. Taught from the SMCT in the army. That's Soldiers Manual of Common Tasks for our nomenclature challenged friends Basic prepares every soldier for the task of making war by building your body to withstand the rigors of combat and building your mind with the knowledge needed to carry out the task. As a volunteer in today's Army you get to pick a specialty. If you are drafted you will be given one based on your ASVAB score.(Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery) Upon graduating basic you are sent to an A-School (Advanced training) to learn your specific specialty. Mine was the operation of heavy equipment, 62-E(cho), which also included a week of 12-Bravo) Combat Engineer training, thus my specialty was known as 62-E(verything). Not only could I drive heavy junk; (Bulldozers, Bucketloaders, Panscrapers, and Roadgraders and the trucks to carry them) I could also lay and remove mines, use explosives, lay bridges, and a host of other 12Bravo Grunt things. Combat Engineers are some of the most important units on a battlefield. Not as glamorous as flying Attack Choppers or driving Tanks, but hey, somebody has to do it. Our motto was... " If noone else, We." LAY HOLD! HEAVE! I was extremely proud when the US letters were removed and the Engineer symbol;(a castle) was pinned to my left lapel.
