quote: -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- So basically what you're saying is that in order for an Indie to get work in BC:M, he has to grovel to the fleets is that it? -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I would not say that you would have to grovel to the fleets but if your going to be profitable you'll probably want to be trading/working for as many people as possible and making enemies with a fleet is not a good idea, if you don't like a fleet fine but for the good of your business(at least at the start) keep that information to yourself, if at a later point you get a good working relationship going with an opposing fleet then you can make your opinions known

Things were fairly quiet here for MAY day but I heard on the news that protests in England got out of hand with shop windows getting smashed and banks being targetted. Sounds like a fun day had by all

Ship versus ship wars (yep another one)
Emmett.hendrick replied to Outlaw's topic in General Chatter
The Andromeda as it stands in the Series is at a serious disadvantage, not being fully crewed and all. If that were address however I'd say she's have a fighting chance against most others listed. As a BC she is highly manoverably and quite fast, she holds an impressive fire power and I think I heard her fighter count is somewhere in the hundreds. As a capitol ship she has a good few strengths including the planet destroying NOVA bombs I think however small fighter sized craft ie X-wings from SW and fighters from B5 could cause problems in enough numbers. I hate to say it but the humble BC is fairly outmatched here, in SW you have the hulking Star Destroyers with some serious firepower and an entire fleet of tie fighters (and others on board) -

I miss Leno and the like we used to get NBC over here but our cable supplier decided to get rid of it, I miss the dialogue that would be on nightly(can't say I understood all of it) but it was a good wind down after a long day

What is the purpose of ground troops?
Emmett.hendrick replied to Ral's topic in Battlecruiser Series
Marines are good for taking out defences and stuff as said earlier drop them in the middle of a hostile base and let them do their stuff. Like wise you can stick some in an atv and drop em planetside that way. They can cause quite a bit of trouble for the defending base etc....... -
I'm not trying to insult anybody here but I do find there is a difference in shopping practices especially between the US and Ireland. In the US people are alot more worried about their diet and will but stuff from farmers markets and stuff but over here we don't seem to care so much. MCdonalds is still the meal of choice for most people over here. Correct me if I'm wrong but its an observation I have made.

A history of computers in a song, funny all the same. And to think the major problems with some older DOS games not running were caused by Gate's vision on the 640K barrier and building it into DOS. I lost many a night trying to sqeeze device drivers and such into UMB to try and get some then top of the line game to run and to look at them now they're laughable

I alway senjoy when somebody allies themselves against the insurgents, Its always a good laugh to hear them flapping wildly in the wind with idle threats. Bewarned when MP goes live we will be watching -
I was looking into building a Dual CPU system a little while ago but was told that put a dual 1GHZ chip on a board would not be possible, has that changed now? is there dual motherboards for 1GHZ processor. The other thing of course for SMP is your OS must support it so you will be looking at either NT or WIN2000 (Win2000 is my recommendation).

I think the genetically modified foods is overhyped, modification can be a great benefit in foods increased farm yields etc, but it seems to me that a small minority have got their voice heard by somebody and are doing their best to scare an awfull lot of people over nothing. The fact is that food is safe and there are lots of controls in place to ensure that the food on your table is safe for your consuption, I mean, currently over here we have the Foot and Mouth out break but thats not going to stop me eating meat because I know its safe.

The topic of intruders boarding your ship has been discussed before and explained at length as far as I remember, the best I can suggest is to use the search to find what your looking for. Damn I'm sounding like one of the Expierenced guys .....Stop it Stop it....... Sounds of slapping!!!!!!

I have to disagree with SOBACK on this one the AMD processors are every bit as good as the Intel counterpart and as mentioned earlier by Gallion you can save money by buying a system with one in it. On another note watch for OEM components there usually stripped down versions of the original card and may be missing some features that you may find handy.

INFJ - Hector you are not alone. Description is pretty much bang on though. Which is a little unsettling! Very cool site though

Video Display Size Small
Emmett.hendrick replied to Akmatov's topic in Battlecruiser 3000AD (Legacy)
Some Gateway laptops when running Dos programs only display a small screen when running, the way to check this is to check what % of your screen is used during the Dos section of your O/S boot up. the problem is rectified when Windows finishes booting and you switch to another RES. The main thing I can suggest is check what your monitor type is set to it should be something like laptop display 800x600 you can easily change this to something with a bigger display and can use safe mode if your screen goes all fuzzy. Definalty change it if it is set to plug and play monitor -
In retrospect I probably should have lurked around a little longer than I did, but I registered when BCM started Beta testing and now that I spend a lot of time in front of a pc with web access I'm trying to get more involved...... I'm still making mistakes and getting rapped on the hand every now and again for making stupid ones but the more I get involved the more enjoyable the expierence gets.

Gamers ... a misconception of class???
Emmett.hendrick replied to aramike's topic in General Chatter
Just read the link and its right, I have been playing computer games since I was ten and am now 26 I have been working in the computer industry for the past 8 years and have had many jobs including network administrator and Field service engineer and I HAVE to say that my skill base was started by tinkering with Dos to get a game to work or seting Win 95 up for a network game. We may be looked down on but for the moment at least people with IT skills are hot property jobs wise (at least here in Ireland), and I would be very hard pressed to find anyone I have worked with that Does not play games. Usually if I'm at a party and it comes up what I do in my spare time I ask people were they work and how much they earned in the last year, Then I tell them what I do and how much I earned and tell them that computer games are directly responsible for what I do and that tends to shut most people up fairly quickly! -
I too am an ex-Gateway tech and I have to say I don't like their pc's, unfortunatly I have one of their machines at home but If I have any problems (and luckly enough so far I haven't) I just ring and demand the part I'm looking for. I would not advise a Gateway PC to a friend who wants a customised system as you are railroaded at every point. Even though they advertise they will build a system with whatever specs you want when I ordered the PC I have now I did not want a soundcard or speakers, when it was delivered guess what arrived with it...... My next PC will be built kit wise by myself now that I have control over the PC. My wife made the buying decision last time.
