  1. Just remember you have to collect it with a shuttle 30000 mixed fuel takes some collecting at 2000 a time
  2. ok your right, can't say I've seen the command in GBS-II either but then I haven't looked for it. One way of giving rewards is to create a cargo_pod with some high value items in it for the player to collect and sell If you use illegal items then he would have to dock at a station where they could be traded. Create them in the game as soon as the "win" condition is true or place them inside the resolve section to make it a little easier. I made the mistake of creating the object as soon as I had destroyed the "enemy contact" the problem, I was still in the middle of a furball and the pod was destroyed before I could collect it. Often worth making the pod neutral but watch out for those transports on patrol who will nick it. If you want to punish the play, create an attacker and use the damage system command to force the player into costly repairs. [ 07-05-2001: Message edited by: Pugwash ]
  3. A bit late with a reply but hey I've been busy When using the Fluxfield do you get a audible alert and a message saying position unchanged or nothing at all happens If the latter then you have not used the correct key sequence to initiate the jump. From the BC3K docks quote: 12.2 Intra-System Course Plotting There are times when you will want to leave the current region or even the system. You will use the same procedure are described above but in this case, you will need to select a jump anomaly such as a wormhole, fluxfield, or jump point in the NID computer. Once the ship reaches the anomaly, it will enter and then emerge on the other side of the anomaly. Using the method, you will be able to travel to any region or starsystem in the entire galaxy. To travel to another region, follow the procedure above but you can only select jump anomalies in the NID computer’s NAVMAP mode. ┬À Press [W] to turn off the weapon systems if on. NAV should now be displayed in the HUD. ┬À Press [J] to put the NID in command mode and cycle through to the NAVMAP mode. ┬À Press [.] to select any target and press [V] to view it in the CVD. ┬À Press [.] and [,] to cycle through all valid targets until the desired one is displayed in the CVD. ┬À Press [F] to program the target to the AUTONAV flight computer. ┬À Press [F] again to activate and lock the Flight Path Designator to the current flight path. The FP : TARGET symbol will appear in the top-center of the BRIDGEVIEWER, displaying the name of the jump anomaly leading to the target region. ┬À Activate the AUTONAV computer by pressing [A] . If the target is a jump anomaly, the ship will enter it and emerge on the other side. ┬À Once you emerge on the other side, deactivate the autopilot with [A] and re-arm your weapon systems using [W]. if the former, this is one of the possible outcomes of using the fluxfield a) your position is unchanged. you arrive at your desired destination. c) you arrive at some other destination including the possibility of a Black Hole and instant death. Don't know about the crashes, I used to get the odd crash sometimes but not very often, I could never identify what caused them but different PC systems seem to have different number of crashes.
  4. I had to read the docs again myself quote: If you don't know how, it's in the Bc3Kman.pdf Intra-system course plotting (page 80/81) In BCM it's much easier. CYA [ 06-29-2001: Message edited by: Pugwash ]
  5. Not quite a nightmare but as usual nothing goes according to plan. For the last day or so I have been preparing to install Win 2K on one of my PCs again, last time I had it installed was over a year ago and as part of this preparation I have been downloading the service packs, critical updates, recommended updates, drivers for all hardware, software updates and patches to date 597MB, all with a 56k modem. During this driver and patch search I came across a bios upgrade for the Adaptec 39160 SCSI card and thought I would download and install. Now having updated the bios on this card once before because Adaptec had originally written a bios that used some of the same memory area as the Intel OR840 system bios preventing the system from booting. This meant that the card had to be upgraded on another motherboard not a problem last time I popped the card in another machine booted from the prepared floppy disk and upgraded when fitted to the OR840 everything worked fine. Well I expected this time I would have no problems, like every BC gamer I read all the documentation twice and then prepared the boot-upgrade disk, I had to open the PC up to remove the cabling to the SCSI CDs and HDs. On booting from the floppy and invoking the flash program the process hung so I put the floppy in another PC and reread the help file no mention of this problem. Well I'm not getting worried yet, I try rebooting the PC everything is ok apart from the bios wasn't upgraded and the PC wont boot as the HDs are unplugged but the SCSI card diagnostics ran so I've not broken anything. I decide I'll have to try in another motherboard, I have a few spare parts lying around so I pick up a P350, mobo, memory and plug in a graphics card and floppy drive place it on my work bench where I have a test bed set up. I plug in a mouse, keyboard, monitor, PSU and on switch power it up just to check it work and everything is fine. I pull the SCSI card out of the workstation and try to fit it in the spare board It won't fit! The SCSI cards a dual 32 or 64 bit PCI card and I'm plugging it into a 32bit PCI slot but it wont fit The problem is the PCI slot on this motherboard has a thicker surround on it and will not fit into the notch on the SCSI card. Well I'm not going to cut down the PCI slot or widen the notch in the SCSI card so I give up on that. I can't place it in the PC with the Gigabyte motherboard as that has an onboard SCSI controller and you must only have one controller in the PC during ROM flashing. So I have to use my BCMBeta testing machine, I'm not keen on this as I don't want to upset it. I pull the SCSI controller and all other cards out of this PC just incase and leave it with just the graphics card in. I insert the 39160 SCSI card, boot from the floppy and run the flash program. I follow the on screen prompts and all is well. Reboot and watch for the error messages that are expected as the configuration has changed and reboot again. Everything is fine, now the bios is upgraded and all I have to do is put the two PCs back together. So two and a half hours after starting a job that I expected to take ten minutes max I have two PCs to reassemble and I'm wondering to myself was it worth it. On the bright side I haven't damaged anything or lost any data so that must be a bonus, and next time I want to upgrade that bios I'll ask myself why? The next task is to install Win2K and all those patches, get that PIII800 chip back I lent to a friend and I can have the dual processors running again.
  6. The answers in your post its all about distance. Flying through the vastness of space you may not come into weapons range of an enemy so it may seem they are not attacking you, they may also be engaged with a higher priority threat. How many times have you seen a cargo pod and thought I'll have that it's got high value items in it only to suffer the destruction of your shuttle or heavy damage once the shuttle slows to collect it? Shuttles are quite fast if your hyper jumping from one point to another the aggressor may not catch up with you. Have you ever chased a NPC with your BC in AI only to find it hyper jumping short distances with your prey long gone by the time you get there?
  7. Yep that's how I deal with the Neutrals but this is Gam / Mil and should attack anything Ter/ Mil a Shuttle may slip through sometimes??? try it and see.
  8. Use the Flux Luke use the Flux Anyone having time problems in this mission should try the Flux fields If you don't know how it's in the Bc3Kman.pdf Intra-system course plotting (page 80/81) Flux-06 (Sygan Majoris or Ramis) is totally safe but others aren't check out Navlink.pdf My route is start mission in LV-130 jump to Marjoris, - Flux-06 to Sygan, - jump to Polaris 1 then back to Majoris via Flux-06 and jump to Ylisia, now Flux-12 to LV-104, jump LV-104 to LV-105. To find the Salamanda I jump to Lv-103, Flux-11 to LV-115 and finally jump to Gamma-2 with over 1hr left to find the Salamanda. I found that 30 minutes after arriving in Gamma 2 The Salamanda arrived by this time I had destroyed all craft in the region and the space station had no more assets to launch. Once I had located the Salamanda I was able to cloak and with the target priority trick capture the Salamanda manually in the tractor without taking any damage. Towed it to a flux field supernova and collected all the cargo jumped in a fighter and destroyed the Salamanda for maximum points . One the way back I stopped off at Xylan to pick up the Warmage.
  9. Requesting Landing Clearance.
  10. If you unload the missiles to the weapons pod and order "attack" instead of "Fly to" or "tow" by mistake with the AI engaged then you will find that the crew reload the missiles and the TO will fire this will give your location away and alert all enemy craft in the region. It will be impossible to use the cloak tow tactic. This is a high risk tactic and all possible precautions should be taken. Missiles in ATV's, Shuttles or transporter will not be reloaded PTA if off for the same reason it will start to fire at any enemy within range I turn all weapons off for safety incase I accidently press the trigger when manoeuvring Once you have captured your target always switch the weapons back on line
  11. I've been lurking and smiling to myself for the past 2 weeks, well all right rolling on the floor at times. I knew once Gallion was back he'd have something to say on this topic I have been waiting with anticipation for your post LOL
  12. Well I took a look at my old notes for this mission I archive everything although parts of these note no longer seem to make sense I seem to have a couple of techniques I've used to find the Salamanda From reading the script file I can see that the Salamanda is using AI to control the cloak not the script,if it detects you it will always attack, and from my notes It would seem that it is not always cloaked?? code: !detect bc attack bc I seem to have used several methods of taking out the Salamanda depending on what I find and conbinations of all 3 a) This trick works on any ship you want to capture / destroy This one is best with all the main upgrades to max slightly higher risk than some but works well when mastered. unload missiles and place in SC or ATV crew will reload them if not PTA off Radar passive Cloak on in safe region and hyper to search region If your lucky enough to locate your target (Salamanda) with cloak off you can tow (hence the weapons off) I know what your going to say you'll be shot to piece with the shields down but 1) The towed craft cannot fire on you or launch fighters and missiles 2) power will bleed back into the shields to give partial protection and the cloak is still up 3)until you are right ontop of the target no one knows your even in the region so cannot attack You will receive some damage very little 1 or 2% to the odd system but with practice and sometimes using manual control the damage you receive is minimal But you must hyper out of the region fast and decloak when safe If you like launch a fighter and take potshots at the towed craft but remember to collect its cargo. When searching (cloak off) don't just hyper through the region if the targets cloaked you must give it time to attack you so loiter around and pick off any enemy craft that approach don't hyper from one location to another within the region c) Occasionally the Salamanda will decloak when this happens you must get it in the target priority list via attack enemy Salamanda. then when it cloaks again just use attack - priority - Salamanda and although you can't see the Salamanda the HUD will give the location for a few seconds (15 to 20 sec) keep repeating the target bit and fire into the "empty" space the HUD is targeting once you get a hit if memory serves me right the craft is silhouetted or partially decloaked so you can close in for the kill. 15. I found a virus called TROJ_PPHUCKER.C at the weekend with PC-cillin when I connected a friends machine I was repairing to my network and deleted it. Friends machine had Pc-cilin on and I am using Norton, the infected files were on my machine Blackice reported some Port probes and Echo storm attacks this evening and when I checked the log files It would seem all my password lists machine settings etc have been ftp to someone. Norton is not detecting this virus on my PC for some reason even though the VDF is up to date Norton 2000 still says I'm clean. As the log indicates otherwise as a precaution I have pull the plug on the 2 files DS-PCG-JUNE.EXE and BCMPCG.EXE that I had uploaded and I would advise anyone who downloaded them to check their systems. the original source of the virus was a compressed file containing Winace 2.0 CYA I can only blame myself for what its done on my machine because when I was using my ftp client I was to idle to configure Blickice and just disabled it. I wont be doing that again [ 05-16-2001: Message edited by: Pugwash ]
  16. A tip for anyone with a scanner don't pile all your old magazines on them it distorts the case and stops the mechanism working !!! File is called DS-PCG-JUNE.EXE at web page [ 10-18-2002, 01:00 PM: Message edited by: Pugwash ]
  17. Thanx changed the sig I call that Fat Finger Syndrome. Just switched the scanner on

Won easily. LOL
  19. Right here you go the files SC said you'll need in a selfextracting archive called PCGBCM.exe https://www.idrive.com/pugwash/files/ CYA http://www.idrive.com/pugwash/files/ now it should link [ 05-12-2001: Message edited by: Pugwash ] I've picked up a virus so as precaution have pulled the link I scanned the file befor I compressed but Norton is not detecting this virus. 20. Yep seen the logo's Now that was a mission and a half, the first 2 missions are so easy so I let the ai do the flying in the extra mission LOL was that a mistake second mistake was to think that the PTA would take care of those Insurgents should have known better if they had been Galcom no trouble, these Insurgents shot me up something bad before I took command and started giving the orders. Anyway it was to late for them I'd hijacked the cargo already (check the sig) hehehe
  21. For those of you who don't have a copy of PC Gamer here's what your missing quote:[scenario] COMMANDER [PC GAMER TRANSPORT DEFENSE] [description] RACE : TERRAN CASTE : MILITARY CAREER : COMMANDER CRAFT : QUESTAR HEAVY CRUISER REGION : FARSTAR SPACE REGION WELL THOSE NUTCASES OVER AT PC GAMER, DESPITE THE RAMIFICATIONS, DECIDED TO GO AHEAD AND SEND THEIR INVESTIGATIVE REPORTING ON THE INSURGENTS PENCHANT FOR PROMOTING VIOLENCE IN GAMES DISTRIBUTED IN GALCOM TERRITORIES, TO PRINT. SOMEHOW, THE INSURGENTS HAVE GOTTEN WIND OF THIS AND WILL PROBABLY ATTEMPT TO INTERCEPT THE TRANSPORT CARRYING THE PRINT MAGS EN ROUTE TO THE PC GAMER HQ OVER AT THE OLIRAN STATION. THIS DEMO SCENARIO WILL TERMINATE AFTER 120 MINUTES, REGARDLESS OF VICTORY CONDITIONS. CYA
  22. SC right Just got June's PC Gamer (UK) 97 This one quote:Includes an exclusive PC Gamer mission They probably missed their deadline or did n't want to change the mag or CD/DVD layout in the time they had left.
  23. Just dug out the PC Gamer DVD (UK)to check what was in the demo No 3rd mission, the scenarios.zip file contains 9 files only, the 3 for each ai mission and the 3 dat files
  24. That must have been the beta code they have since changed the line quote: act_on_user_input(); to dont_act_on_user_input(); LOL [ 05-06-2001: Message edited by: Pugwash ]
  25. My local cable TV company has given me 3 new channels to sample over the Bank holiday weekend VH1,MTV Base and MTV UK. So when I've been playing BCM the TV has been on behind me, but I had to keep changing between these channel as the music was not to my taste. I'm not saying it was bad or anything but not what I'd choose to listen to. It reminded me of my teenage years when my parents said something along lines of "that's not music it just screaming" the good old days of the Sex Pistols, GBH ,Abrasive Wheels and one for you Americans The Dead Kennedy's (or was it ies) great bands. This got me thinking about how your views change as you mature (the politically correct version) Things that are starting to change, have changed or will change 1 You don't like todays music 2 You drive closer to the speed limit and give way to other road users 3 You seem to grow large amounts of nasal and ear hair 4 You comb your hair over that ever increasing bold patch 5 You embarrass you son, daughter, nephew, niece etc when out with them or at family events 6 You no longer have any Trainers 7 You start to wear cardigans and slippers 8 Most of your teeth are false Things that haven't change YET!! 1 You letch after young women especially when out with your mates and not with the other half 2 You have to watch that football match especially when England play 3 You still go down to the pub with the mates on a Thursday night not an exhaustive list and I'm sure you can add to them, Now I'm going back to playing BCM
