  2. I telephone the HR department at work today to clarify some points and it would seem that wether or not I sign the "Compromise Agreement" I was made redundant on the 7th which was not what I or my colleges were told. The financial difference to not signing to me is I would loose out by around £200 but still be able to take any legal action. They expected everyone to jump at the option and take it but they did insist I sought legal advice before signing, now I have said that I am reluctant to sign the agreement they find themselves in the position that they say they have terminated my employment without following the required legal process. I have fired off a letter to the HR representative and depending on what they confirm in writing depends on my next move. I'm expecting them to backtrack on what they told me over the telephone and now follow the requirements laid down by law. Maybe I'm an optimist If they do that and could some how for fill all the legal requirements tomorrow I would now benefit by not signing as they would have to pay me for at least one weeks extra pay. Failing that I'm seriously thinking about taking them to the Industrial tribunal but I'll have to see what they are going to confirm in writing. Luckily I am a member of a trade union so receive legal advice and representation from them at no cost other than the normal monthly membership fee.

  4. Thought I'd better start a separate thread as we keep taking the others off topic From this thread quote:Originally posted by Pugwash: I'm now on the legally required 30 day consultation period before redundancies are announced, but my employers are stressing no decision has been made to move the work, like hell. They want us (me and 4 other colleges) to ask for redundancy now and go by next week, but to do that we have to sign a legal document protecting them from any possible legal action. I would not even be allowed to slag them off down the pub. We have also heard on the grapevine that all our passwords are going to be disabled at the weekend, but that would cause a problems as we have admin rights on all the servers, also know the default Admin password for all servers, the FTP copy passwords for the jobs we run including the banks changeling them would mean editing every job that has a FTP copy in it as the passwords are contained in the job or file that resides with the individual job. Anyone know a good virus writer. just kidding I don't even know if I'm working Sunday at this moment in time. quote:Originally posted by Cc: quote: They want us (me and 4 other colleges) to ask for redundancy now and go by next week, but to do that we have to sign a legal document protecting them from any possible legal action. Yep, the exact same situation here in the U.S. for the company I use to work for. Holy Crap on a Rubber Raft! Do you get any benefit's at all? Edit: Here in the US ,you get some benifits if you sign off, but you give up the right to sue. Sorry, dude.Tripple bummer.Wish I could buy you an ale at your favorite pub. S.O.A.B. We will still be entitled to the statutory redundancy package and unemployment benefit for six months. Their compromise package just means that we can leave now and get paid for the rest of the consultation period, then receive the same redundancy package (pay in lieu of notice, holiday credits etc) all tax free which we would receive on redundancy. The full story and background history goes something like this. Around two years ago the company I worked for decided to relocate some of the financial control side of the business to another location. The people involved were offered redundancy and a good package to stay with the company until the transfer was complete.(bonus of 3 months salary tax free) Not one of them signed up to move and it could be seen that with all the expertise vanishing over night it would not work. The redundancy package and bonus offer was withdrawn moral in the departments concerned crashed for some unknown reason. After that Christmas we were all informed (credit control, purchase ledger,TSG, apps support, operations etc all I. T. and Financial departments) that the company would be looking at outsourcing all these functions and we would be transferred to which ever company won the seven year contract. By April that year we had been transferred to the contract winner. The nice air conditioned secure ( behind 3 locked doors with security cameras and security guards) computer suit we worked in was vacated. Most of the servers moved to our new employers data center, we moved in to an open plan office about 3 miles away with no security, cars in the car park were broken into or stolen during the day. What really pi**** me off is the fact we have been lied to by our new managers saying things like "It's to early to say", "No decision has been made", "We will keep you fully informed while we investigate all possible changes in working practices". That was last September when we had demanded a meeting to find out what was happening, they never did keep us informed the next meeting we had was last week seven months later. During that time our I. T. Help desk was closed and centralized with theirs our staff took redundancy, their staff had no experience with our users and just pass the jobs onto applications support who now have to devote more and more time supporting users and not fixing, changing, supporting application (most of our apps are in house bespoke application and users are always wanting changes) We moved from using Quetzal (sp?) to Heat for monitoring IT issues. That was a joke all our IT staff still use Quetzal they don't like Heat it doesn't have the functionality Quetzal has, someone now has to now keep both databases in sync. A large number of experienced staff with many years experience (including team leader) have left replace by our new employers staff transferred from other locations or temps. We've had some good temps who have deleted files off the system before handing in there notice. This has all helped to foster an atmosphere of uncertainty, rumors, and lack of moral but all our leader can say is "you get swings like this in a few months time everyone will be happy" well its been like this for a year now getting worse week by week. The best thing about the shift pattern has been working nights I'm in the building alone and don't have to put up with the bad atmosphere, we all hate working the day shifts. So all in all I'm not surprised to be made redundant we have been expecting it from day one it's only their lack of planning and inability to manage the situation that has enabled the ops team to remain in employment for so long. The only reason I stuck with them was I could arrange my shift pattern to enable me to attend University on day release, any shifts I could not swap I booked off as holidays. I just telephoned work to find out if I'm working Sunday no one knows so I'm taking that as a no and will stay in bed on Sunday. We can go home once the work is done this week since our services are no longer required. Couldn't sleep yesterday so had been up playing.. erm.. testing.. on the MP servers in the morning /afternoon so stayed up all day testing didn't do any work on GBS though. Six posts in one day I'm loosing it. Think I should have waited another day and got some sleep before I posted in Area51 it might have been more coherent, it seemed to make sense when I read it last night.

I'm now on the legally required 30 day consultation period before redundancies are announced, but my employers are stressing no decision has been made to move the work, like hell. 7. Now we just need the Karanian reactors entry to be a little less ambiguous.

We seem to have taken this thread of topic. I know how to bring it back I'll put a character called Robson Green into the ACM I was at work, 12 hour nightshift, trying to train some ops at another data centre how to process the work so I can be redundant at the end of the month. Your were referring to the BCM single mission script that had Fleet C&C not the 30 hour+ convoy ACM well I was half asleep another 4 hours and I'm back at work.

Was that fleet GBS2 or 1 anyhow someone nicked that idea and used it in UC. I'm in the middle of porting the old ACM with extras to UC and putting back TOD4, trying to make each TOD last over 24 hours (each mission to be about 6 hours) so that by the time you reach the latter missions your crews AI should be high enough to use those Artifacts you have collected.
  11. quote:From the AppendixArtifacts.html: With this module installed, hyperjumps require no fuel for operation and the recharge rate is instantaneous. My CC still consumed fuel when the HJ engines fired even though the ENM module was installed and working. Engine recharge time was instantaneous at the end of the jump.
  12. If your sure all your crew and systems meet the minimum requirements then check that if you've had any pesky intruders that they haven't stashed the ENM on one of the shuttles. I've just watched the fuel usage (UC) and your right even with the ENM installed the jumps consume fuel, but you do get "instantaneous" HJ recharge at the end of the jump. If your getting this then its working OK so the ENM does NOT do exactly what it say on the box.
  13. quote:Originally posted by Shingen: Can't you just go to TacOps/Observe and then zoom to either friendly or enemy? If a starbase is on planet it'll show up, if not, then you'll have to go for a command center. Right? Yep and once you've done this you have a new submenu item MISSION ZONE in the TACOPS > ZOOM submenu tree, now you can locate any mission zone on the planet you're observing.

  16. quote:Originally posted by cadet: 1. I bought a ENM and my RE didn't have a high enough AI to analyze it. When her AI reached 50, she configured the ENM and the Celestal Orb. I noticed the increase in Hyperjump engine Recharge time, but my hyperjump engine still takes 10 units of Radine to jump. {I know it does becaue it check the radine before the hyperjump and then directly after and 10 units are always missing}. Is there possibly something I am overlooking. I checked the appendix; my ship and crew meet or exceed these requirements. What else can I check, do, or redo to stop using radine on hyperjumps? quote:From the AppendixArtifacts.html: 2. ENHANCED NAV MODULE Use: This device enhances the ship's hyperjump engines. The Battlecruiser uses 10 units of Radine for hyperjumps and also needs to wait for the HJ engine to recharge before the next jump. With this module installed, hyperjumps require no fuel for operation and the recharge rate is instantaneous. Required to operate: Research Engineer requires AI of 50 or above to analyze. Flight Officer OR Navigation Officer must have an AI of 50 or above. Flight Officer AND Navigation Officer must be on-station. Engine requires 5 units of power or greater. Navigation System requires 5 units of power. Navitron Computer, Engine, Reactor, Reactor Core and Reactor Cooling System integrity level must be greater 15%I'm guessing that you did not hear the RE say "Attempting to configure the Enhanced Nav Module" then shortly after saying "The Enhanced Navigation Module has been Installed" once this has occurred then the ENM is ready for use as long as all the other prerequisite are met. The ENM does exactly what it say on the box. Can't help you with 2 yet I haven't got that far with UC only got my copies 7 days ago, I know what happens in BCM /G but want to check it's the same in UC before I post [ 05-01-2004, 03:30 PM: Message edited by: Pugwash ]

Well I have to agree with you on that one Second favourite would have to be John Pewtree. So I hear, but theyÔÇÖll pander to the AmericanÔÇÖs again and create another disaster like that last film. Or theyÔÇÖll just throw money at it like they did with the last series of RED Dwarf American interference again.

DonÔÇÖt tend to watch that much TV any more it's all rubbish, repeats, soaps (which I never watch) or game shows (which includes those garden, house, lifestyle, etc make over programs). I tend to end up watching Sci-Fi on Sky 1, UK history (watch that for 6 months and you have seen there entire schedule) or just have MTV on in the background. CanÔÇÖt remember the last show that I had to make a point of watching or videoed if I was out! 24 hour news is another good one to have on in the background.

Every show is as bad as the other. Thank God he's been off our screens for a while or is it I've been lucky and managed to miss what ever rubbish he's in now.
  24. quote:From the appendixartifacts.html 4. TACYON ANAGRAM SHIELD Use: This unit is a shield system upgrade. It provides 5000 units of protection. Requires 85% less Plutonium for operation than any normal shield. The TAS has a fixed number of unit of protection whereas standard shields have a percentage increase of your base asset rating (+50% for each step in shield technology). The Megaron starts with 3500 units of shielding add a Linear Spec IV giving a total of 3500 + (150% of 3500) = 8750 units of protection once fully installed. Now if you started with a BCMk3 base rating 1500 units add a Linear Spec IV 1500 + (150% of 1500) = 3750 units of shielding the case for the TAS is more clear cut. At the end of the day it's your choice wether you go for all out shielding or the TAS with its reduced fuel usage and disadvantage of not being repairable.
  25. Thanks for the help. After I downloaded and installed SP1 and all those security patches and updates only had 4 errors in the event.log. SP1 failed on the first attempt to install, it fell over within the first 30 seconds, ran ok on the second try. Explorer crashed once caused by me browsing while installing Explorer updates. A couple of errors on reboot complaining that a PC of the same name existed on the network, the master must be a bit slow updating. So I've patched it, installed all the latest drivers, installed Nero,WinDVD (only software sent with the PC), run scan disk, disk cleanup , defrag then stuck in a ghost floppy and copied of the HD image to CD-Rom at highest compression just over 6Gig on to 4 CD's.(first CD is bootable and image has been verified). Seems to have used more HD space than I would of expected from a clean install of XP! One noticeable difference is that the initial post boot screen is displayed for around 3 seconds (the bit with the grafix card, CPU detected, memory count) and the first half of the bios data can be read before it scrolls off the page. This was impossible to read before and trying to hit the pause key at the right time to read it was impossible. I'm working Friday so will return it then, in the meantime its left running on the floor, been on for around 16 hours now without locking up or and errors in the event log. Thanks again. Me I'm sticking with Intel
