Balor-Bishamon Fleets Combined February Recall
Pugwash replied to ShoHashi's topic in Insurgent Fleets
I wasn't being explicit enough there The 35M was scandisk recovered files (chkfile001 etc) The HD was a Segate 850MB with 100M free. Getting windows up and running didn't take that long, May have been better to "Repair" the windows from the install menu or even upgrade it to 98 I got 2 used copies of 98 that are no longer installed on any PC. Thanks for the link DLed a copy 471MB will have a play with it later if I find I'm going to add it to my tool kit will make a donation. -

lol Cruis There's a private forum for us vets Area51 You seem a bit uptight of late what's up ? I know what you mean about the n00bs I keep cursing because there slowing the board down. and 46 guests and 16 registered users online it used to be nice and quiet round here Now I'm being hypocritical I hate it when people use that gif or type WTF. If I see too many more images posted instead of links I'm going through all those posts and editing out the img tags n00bs post YOUR IMAGES ON YOUR OWN WEBSITE THEN POST LINKS Well I'm having a frustrating night fixing my nieces PC I built it 6 years ago out of spare parts, must be a record for a windows machine as it's the first serious problem with it and its looking like the HD failing. 35M in recovered files, and a couple of corrupted directory names. I cloned the drive and am working with the image. Just got to get SmartSuite working again it's crashing due to the deskjet drivers. Would of been quicker to start with a fresh install but its got all her college work on and no backup. Windows 95 not even OSR2 well it was the only OS I had a spare license for at the time. -
quote:Originally posted by Equinux: Was cruising around the battlecruiser commlink forum to get a general idea how the game is doing however I'm a little dismayed that a large number of posts have been deleted from the Tech support section. The existing posts are only a small fraction of what is indicated on the post counter. Whats going on? I read the understandably stringent restrictions ( Tone of SC and test admins a little to testy though) but find it hard to believe that almost 800 posts didn't meet the spec. Are a there too few bugs or too many bugs that require frequent post deletes? I got burned when the initial BC shipped however I heard that the more recent games are more polished and possibly worth playing. I really want to give the BC series another shot but a bit gunshy. I don't think you understand how those counter work If the topic count is 9 there are 9 topics if it's 9,999 there are 9,999 topics and you can read them all. If the number of posts is 9 in a thread there are 9 posts, if it's 9,999 there are 9,999 posts and again you can read them all. If I delete a post the post count total is reduced by one as if the post never existed, but in most cases if a post (not a topic / thread) is "censored" because for what ever reason it does not need the requirements of this board then the contents of the post are edited with suitable remark. If the poster does it to often then their posting rights are removed. If the post is the first post in a new topic then the entire topic may be delete or just closed again with a suitable remark. If the entire thread / topic is deleted then the number of topics is reduced by one. If a topic / thread is moved then the topic count in the forum it was in is reduced and the forum it is placed in is increased but it will not show in the search correctly untill the forum is re indexed. Therefore you can not tell how many posts have been deleted. Don't believe me get your calculator out and add them all up! Remember to set your preference to "Show all topics" before you start. Hardware Question: Dual Processors vs Single
Pugwash replied to Scarlek's topic in Science, Technology & Health
The case I added the second PSU to was similar to the Supermicro one, at the time I could not find a supplier for 400+ watt PSU at a reasonable price. With the introduction of the Athlon and P4 even 550W PSU are easily available at reasonable prices. Just read the reviews on that one like everything else you get what you pay for so I'd be a bit wary about buying a £14 PSU I fitted the extra ATX PSU in the top rear of the case where the auxiliary 8cm exhaust fan was just had to cut out holes for the power cable inlet, the retaining screws and remove the fan cover from the PSU. I then wired the soft startup to the Turbo switch / button which was not needed, and was able to disable the latching mechanism of the Turbo switch so it behaved as a momentary switch and not an on / off toggle. I didn't want to risk running it from the motherboard or standard startup button. The main plug to the motherboard was not used ( except for the 2 wires going to the turbo button) and insulated against accidental short circuits on the metal case, all the power cables were used in the normal way to power the Floppy, CD /DVD and hard drives, the boot drive remained on the original PSU. I had been told that this setup would cause problems but ran it like that for 12 months without a single problem except for the few time I forgot to start the second PSU before booting. If you check all your hardware components they usually have there current ratings on them, well hard drives and CD / DVD drives do motherboards and add in card you'll probably have to read the techy specs from the manufacturers. If you add up all the +5v and +12v current ratings of the hardware you are going to install don't forget the fans mine rate from 0.2amp to 0.8amp ouch! (again you get what you pay for cheap fans = noise, power hungry, short life span and large current drain on spin up) your PSU should have a rating table on it the only spare I have at hand to check is a 205W with a rating of 20A for +5V and 8A at +12V Remember you will need overcapacity at start up when all those hardware devices initialize, the drive motors can be particularly power hungry on spin up but at least with SCSI you can stager these devices. Far easier to put a bigger PSU in but as you not powering 6 hard drives 3 CD / DVD drives etc you should be ok Is the modem USB 1 compliant it should be but it may be worth checking. Can you go LAN modem wise, or power it externally? If not you could try a powered external USB hub but be careful to get one that will supply enough power most only alow 500ma. Final option would be to use an add in PCI USB card quote:Originally posted by Scarlek: (This forums better than any other tech forum I've seen! ) It's all a matter of how you ask for support. You reap what you sow on this board. Treat board members the way you would like to be treated and you'll receive the same treatment in return. That won't work if you like to be abused as you'll just get banned Most of the community are not 14 year old CS kiddies. -
Balor-Bishamon Fleets Combined February Recall
Pugwash replied to ShoHashi's topic in Insurgent Fleets
I'll tell you what I've done / intend to do but you don't have to follow my example. I cancelled my order. I do not intend to re-order for at least 3 or 4 months this is not because of any support issue but because: I don't want DC to meet their sales targets. I might pay even less for the game by then also hitting DC profit. SC may come out with another viable option. If I have to buy the DC version then I will donate $10 for each copy to SC via Paypal if that option is available to me. As an existing BCM and BCMG owner (I have 2 copies of each) I will be able to get my hands on the demo so that will have to do for the time being. and as a beta I might even get my hands on GBSIII and make up a few scripts who knows. -
Hardware Question: Dual Processors vs Single
Pugwash replied to Scarlek's topic in Science, Technology & Health
What motherboard? I have a dual P3 800Mhz (133 FSB) based on the Intel OR840 motherboard 512MB of PC800 RAMBUS RIMM Adaptec 39160 SCSI card 2 x IBM 309170 + 2 x Segate ST39140 SCSI Hard Drives 2 x 3.5" Swap able Hard drive + various Hard drives in caddies 200GB, 75GB Maxtor s, 123.5GB, 2 x 30.7GB and 2 x 25GB Deskstar s. Ultraplex40 Max SCSI CD-rom PlexWriter 48/24/48A IDE CD-writer. Panasonic 2x DVD-R/-RW/RAM & CD/RW IDE Burner PCI CMD Ultra IDE Controller SB Live Platinum Primary display AGP GF2 GTS 64MB Secondary display PCI nVidia RIVA TNT2 32MB PCI Compaq NC3120 Fast Ethernet NIC I use the follow case Supermicro SC762 case 420W Power supply + Additional Xeon/PIII cooling kit All 6 external 5.25" drive bays are used 3 x cd/dvd, 2 x IDE swap and SBlive drive 1 x 3.5" external drive bays Floppy top front 2 x 3.5" internal drive bays top rear above exhaust fan (Segate drives SCSI Channel A) 2 x 3.5" internal drive lower front (IBM drives SCSI channel The tower actually comes with 3 x 3.5" internal drive bays 2 of which are in a removable cage that can be fitted in the top rear position as in the photo in the link or in the lower position on the same rail that holds the CPU fan/s (not shown on the 762 photo) but its a tight fit if you add the extra cooling kit with the 2 CPU fans. The 3rd drive bay can partly be seen above the removable cage in the photo. I have the cage in the lower position and use Meccano (perforated metal strips) fastened to the top drive bay protruding downwards to hold the 2 Segate drives in the position the drive cage is shown in the photo. Those SCSI drives give off allot of heat and the machine can give out unbearable amount on those hot summer days,(yep all 2 of them in England) count the fans 3 x 8cm intake fans lower front case, 2 x 9cm over CPUs, CPUs are slot 1 with fans, 4cm exhaust fan rear case between CPUs, 8cm Exhaust fan top rear above PSU, 2 x 8cm fans on side of drive bays, all the HD caddies have 4cm intake fans. Before I got this case I had another tower it had a 300W PSU and experienced power problems on boot as all the drives spun up. I solved that problem by adding an additional 250W PSU The main reason for all those fans is because of all the cabling restricting the airflow 4 IDE cables 3 SCSI (1 LVD HD, 1 68 pin Ultra wide HD, 1 50 pin CD-rom ) SB live drive power and audio cables. Keep saying I'll fit the 2GB memory limit in it but at the price of the memory have always spent the money on other things . You can never have enough HD space trouble is the more you have the more you need. If you go for the Dual processor setup I think its worth getting a proper Dual processor case. 2 x 750Mhz is certainly more processing power than your other option and if they are 133 FSB even better, but you will need XP or Win2K. This give a PC with performance close to the recommended spec for UC although grafix is short, does the MX have the required vertex shader 1.1 can't remember but the is a post on the forum about it you'll just have to do a search yourself (its getting late 1:14 and I can't be bother to do a search now). Clean install with both processors fitted I've had weird effects when adding and removing 1 of the processors and booting the PC. So what you want to know is how does it run a BCMG server no problems although the maximum number of players connected at any time was only 3!! BCMG server idles at around 40 - 45 % of system on CPU 0 at startup. (37 processes running I don't shut down all the rubbish running in the background) on Win2K, Swap file on D: Boot drive and BCMG installed on C: Information that you might find relevant. quote: Posted By Supreme Commander in other topics oh, did I mention that since BCG makes use of dual-proc, so now does BCM Gold? If you have a dual proc machine (or even more), several threads (e.g. AI, networking, dynamics etc) are run on separate processors. This makes running a server on a dual-proc machine the best possible server config. quote: BCM supports parallel processing when running under WIN2K. BCM is not supported under NT, for obvious reasons. -

As always. -
quote:Originally posted by Supreme Cmdr: As for the sig, dunno. If its leading nowhere, that means the search needs to be re-indexed. I'll do it tomorrow. The forum sig link is a hard link on the main page as in http://www.3000ad.com/ubbcgi/ultimatebb.cg...c;f=26;t=000004 (forum 26 = Forum Archives ) although re indexing will facilitate the search function finding the topic the main page will still need to be edited to point to its new residing place.

When did the Forum Archives get cleared out? There's only one topic in there now and the link to Forum Sig at the top of the forum main page leads nowhere.

Nothing to see here, move along.

It's getting quite crowded on this little ol' starstation.

Did you clean up the radiated decks?
-
In that other thread Bane had problems patching ME but then benny didn't. As I don't have ME installed on any of my PC's anymore and have not experienced any problems patching W2K Pro or XP Pro the only thing I can suggest is a clean install only use the 2 patches named in the other thread or to do what Bane did install another OS unless anyone know what the problem could be.
-
Ok you have the wrong patch. If roam works after you applied the patch you did it correctly. Now all you need to do is go get the correct patch 1.01.01 the second of the 2 patches mentioned in that LINK I posted earlier. It should say "Version 1.01.01 DEC 12 2003" and "v 1.01.01" respectively once you have patched to the latest.
-
Start the game in single player mode, as it starts read and write down the game version number and date top left of the screen. also on the main menu page what is the version number bottom left. Can you run the game in single player mode roam?

quote:Originally posted by Supreme Cmdr: Anyway, mods/admins, please assist with the moving of topics from the General Discussions thread to the specific new forums. I moved stuff from the past month, got bored, and gave it up. The forum does not have an option to do a mass move, so it has to be done manually. Been doing a few, got a question will the search function catch up in a few hours or does the board need re indexing? example of the problem: do a search on the word "Movie" in "General Discussion - The Rubbish Pit" + "Subject only" you get 184 results most with the following type of result http://www.3000ad.com/ubbcgi/ultimatebb.cg...ic;f=7;t=002970 well I have moved around 150 of them I was going to say PM me if any of you see posts in the wrong Forums but I might get inundated with PM's so don't. I had a few hour spare at work between 3 am and 7 am on Wednesday morning and since we have been given Internet access I started to move a few and did some more in the last hour. Only another 2000+ posts to sort.
-
Probably hasn't managed to patch the game correctly yet? see posts by Bob3terd concerning problems patching You did managed to patch correctly in the end didn't you? Read this for the current patch sequence.

Merry Christmas one and all. and a special thanks to all the suits at DC for making such a wonderful start to the SC Christmas season. Jag you seem to have put on some weight recently and get a shave man that white beard puts years on you.

Gone Gold Thread - People are so predictable
Pugwash replied to Supreme Cmdr's topic in PC Gaming & Technology
Hate is rather a strong word / emotion. I can't say I hate people like Takvah because I don't know them but I certainly don't like what this type of person posts. Give them enough rope and they'll hang themselves. -
Glad you got it sorted, at least that show you were installing the patches correctly Not sure why it didn't work with WinME but then I've never tried it with that OS. Only thing I had forgotten to say was that with OS's like 2k & XP etc you need to be logged in with Administration rights to install and patch. Oh btw as Gallion would say Welcome to Our Nightmare
-
Three reasons spring to mind why it possibly hasn't worked for you. 1) Wrong file downloaded. 2) File corruption. 3) BCMG was patched incorrectly. Just check the file name and size it should be filename = bcmg101.exe size = 9.87 MB (10,350,717 bytes) if not re download it from http://www.dreamcatchergames.com/dci/suppo...dia/bcmg101.exe The second patch file should be filename = bcmg10101.exe size = 8.25 MB (8,654,733 bytes) choose a site from here http://www.3000ad.com/downloads/bcmg.shtml be careful you get the file dated 121203. I've re-installed BCMG on four machines recently ( been playing with GBS II and wanted a clean untainted environment for testing ) on both Win2k Pro and XP Pro and they work fine. As the SC says you must copy the patch file to the installed folder / directory "C:Program FilesDreamCatcher3000ADBattlecruiser Millennium Gold" (if you installed to the default directory ) and run the patch from there. Patch with the first file bcmg101.exe I'd say watch the red progress bars to check it patches correctly but you probably won't recognize what is the correct behavior and what isn't. Run the game and check it works. Now copy the second file bcmg10101.exe in to the "Battlecruiser Millennium Gold" directory and execute it.
