Good to hear from you Akuma. Sorry to hear the bad news, but it is good to at least know that you're there. I'll pray, too. Please, you just have to tell us, if the little guy gets through.

Ehhhh.. Question answered in the Troubleshooting FAQ. Check the Video section. Hell, I'm in a good mood. Let me post the specific fix here..... - If you are running DEMO EPISODE ONE: Go to Display Properties. In the Direct3D section of the Advanced settings tab, disable (remove the tick mark from the box) the feature described as Adjust Z-Buffer depth to rendering depth if unequal If you are not running demo Episode One, you do not need to mess around with the Z-Buffer depth settings (above). Leave it at the default setting (box checked) when using the Det 3 10xx or higher drivers. The Z-Buffer seems to be the only prob with most of the newbies, using an nVidia card. quote:will the game run if e2 runs and e1 doesen't? Of course. E1 uses DirectX 7, but the E2 Demo uses DirectX8. So does the game. I said it before, but I'll say it again. Welcome JJ. You're one of the better newbies coming around our direction. I hope you don't make the mistakes the others have....

Just some quick questions about Diplomacy
Cmdr Nova replied to Hunted's topic in Battlecruiser Series
Terrans (Aggresive Castes)->Gammulans (Ditto)=Hostile Terrans (GalCom)->Terrans (Insurgent)=Hostile GalCom Caste->Raider Caste=Hostile Terran (GalCom)->Other Caste (GalCom)=Friendly Of course, it should tell you in the manual. BTW, all enemies are marked in the color red, friendlies in green, neutral/other in blue, and ships that are disabled, or emitting an SOS signal are marked grey. Gammulans are always at war with Terrans. GalCom is always at war with the Insurgents. The game should show messages in your message bar (the top of the screen), pertaining to important info, like changes in diplomacy, urgent mission info, and whatever. Peace treaties included, if any are made. --- Welcome aboard JJ. Don't mind the SC. He (and all us vets) are really tired of folks complaining. As long as your question is legit, and you don't bi!ch a lot, then you're gonna be just fine! -
Into The Fire Act Five - Operation Golgotha
Cmdr Nova replied to Blades's topic in Role Playing Discussions
Thanks for that one Blades. I'm wondering about the RP aspect of Nova heading to Orion. At least I still have some time to think. Well. Um. Er, w00t! Let's get back in the spot now. I mean, it's been like 3 weeks since I made an RP Post.... So much has been going on, lately. *sigh* Oh well. Time to get the ball rollin!! (RP) Operation Golgotha T+0 Earth, M.Z. 13 Drop Zone Nova felt the tingle of the bright beam, and he knew that it had begun. He knew in his heart that it would be soon, before he'd start getting shot at again. The Gammulans in the Vulture, the ship itself, being destroyed by it's own artificial gravity, and now this. Time never seemed to slow by even the slightest fraction. His life felt as if it was rushing too fast. To imagine, just a few weeks ago, he had been having the time of his life, on a modified mercenary cruiser, with 1 fighter on board. He was the backup pilot, but he was there, flying it, doing crazy stunts, and nearly blowing out the sub-space engines, by putting them in overdrive. Then he got fired, got hired onto the Vulture, and then became part of the team. And it all added up to this. Seconds later, the beam dissipated, and his vision became clear. It was night, and the moon held high, in the clear sky. He felt the ground below him, with real gravity. Many years of being on ships, and living in a starstation. After ages of daring not to come back, he was on Earth again. Nova stood there, checking his gear, one last time. A slight queasiness came over him. He believed it to be the transporter, again. At least the anti-tox kept him from puking again. For a man with lots of fighting experience, Nova hadn't been beamed by a transporter, almost at all. But at least few noticed it. --- He tapped a button on his HUD Eyepiece, which activated his D.I.E. Scanning the landscape, he saw the hills, few trees off to a distance, a heads-up arrow for the base, and.......... In the distance, there was a man on a hill. He squinted, making sure his eyes weren't fooling him. Several of the others looking around, seemed to notice as well. Chavik brought the matter to Blades. Blades calmed the team by telling them it was the contact. "One hell of a way to meet the crew, if you ask me," Nova mumbled. I wonder how long he's been up there. Ah, whatever. He took a short walk, just a few feet from the site. --- With adrenaline flowing in vast amounts, through his blood, Nova felt ready for battle. You could see it in the way he stood, and (if not for the helmet,) you could see it in his face, too. War was calling him. He, and the rest of the team, were going to answer the call soon. Who can help me?
Cmdr Nova replied to Aleksey Kichigin's topic in General Multiplayer Fleet Discussions
Cool, Alex! Like they said. You can use HTML, too. Just use the HTML document as the background, use the picture with an image map. Or, if you want it to change, as in highlight when you hover mouse over it, you can split the picture, and use a Javascript rollover script to make it work, piece by piece. Of course, I'm not sure how to link to My Computer from HTML. Anyone know how? [ 08-24-2001: Message edited by: Cmdr Nova ] -
Oh, BTW. Ep5, the 3rd frame in your animation isn't in proportion (it looks stretched/squished). I think you should use the little image on the www.orionfleet.com site. It's already the right size. And there will be a new logo coming out soon....

quote:Heh, I happen to b a 'Gam and not to b arrogant or anything but I was the one who inspired the indies when I started the "Know your role" topic a while back. So I guess that means I'm kinda important eh? Oh and u Orionites can hire me anytime provided u got the cash and weapons for my services. And you really inspired me, but no one got into my work..... And once I left, (Whatsitcalled.... That new corporation.... Oh, yea; I got it!) Intercorp Unlimited started up.......... But seriously, everyone there still looks up to me as a big brother.... Odd, since I'm a (what's the term...) fleeter, now.... Well, I think they're on the right foot. Anyway, before I get too off-topic, GalCom is always at war with Gammulans. Sorry, man.

Question about the origins of Genesis Station
Cmdr Nova replied to Badgerius's topic in Role Playing Discussions
I'm not sure, but the situation, IMO, is like how the new Orion HQ was being built in Centris, and the old Orion HQ, was turned over to EarthCom. The forces once in Genesis (Earth), were now stationed in the Moon's orbit, using a newer station. -
quote:Seriously though I am interested in tinkering with the scaling model of BCM ships and the BC studio... Same here. Super huge ships and/or other stuff, using models I make. Hehe, I think I'll start with a Super Star Destroyer... This could get interesting... I can't wait until I get my chance to tinker around, myself, when BCM goes Gold! ---- Okay, back on topic now, with a GBS question. Can we also add special stuff to ships, like having a cloaking shuttle? It would be really cool, because some of us are interested in remaking some RP battles, in full fledged BCM, and there have been those few 'modified' ships.... Disorder | Rating Paranoid: Low Schizoid: Moderate Schizotypal: High Antisocial: Moderate Borderline: Low Histrionic: Moderate Narcissistic: Moderate Avoidant: Moderate Dependent: Low Obsessive-Compulsive: Moderate 3 Lows, 1 High, and the rest are Moderate....... That doesn't really help..... Hmmm. I'm pretty Schizotypal....... Okay, so I really don't see dead people.... Fine.... (Oooh, post 350, for me!) [ 08-22-2001: Message edited by: Cmdr Nova ]

I was tinkering with BCM Demo E2, and figured this out. Copied this from the Orion Fleet Discussions Forum, FYI. In the GFXFrontend folder, there are some .zip files. In the NPC.zip file, you'll find .bmp files of your crew members, important NPCs (like Karl Reines), and your alter-ego (you, the player). (Hmm.... Derek seemed to sneak his picture in there, as well--cmdr.bmp) They are all 128x128 pixels. I extracted the mcmdr.bmp to the frontend folder, and started editing it. The modifications were visible in the game (in all the missions except the first one, I think). You don't even have to re-compress the picture into the zip file. Just rename it, with the name of the file you'd like to replace. --- A while ago, some folks were asking if they could put their picture there, but I don't remember any answer. This way, you can edit your Alter-Ego's picture, and your crew if you want. But, I'm not sure about it's effects, once multiplayer will come out. Anyway, it's a pretty nifty thing to do, with any 128x128 bitmap on your comp. Cool, right? But, all the missions using that picture in particular will use it, instead of the default (you knew that right?); like E2 Missions 2-4 use the same pic (mcmdr.bmp), and whatnot. This may be temporary, or, it may affect something down the road, when BCM goes gold. Like I said, I'm not sure what will go on in multiplayer. I wish you can have 'your' picture, like the ones we've made for Orion Fleet commanders... But it's too late for wishlists, right?

Once again, welcome aboard, Borg12. Most of Orion Fleet's communicating is done in our forum. Here. That's why the Orion Fleet section of the Forum, isn't really active. Also, you might want to check out the Orion site, www.orionfleet.com, although it does need some updating. Let me answer your questions about RP, because I have been RPing since I joined, although I haven't been in Orion for even a month. Head over to the RPG Discussion Forum. Look around and read a little. I haven't RPd online (besides here), so I'll try to describe it as best as I can. It's like storytelling, to tell you the truth. Some of them, short stories, others, epic. Into The Fire has been up for 10 months, if you want to know what epic is. It reads just like a good novel. The main writer, tells the main story, and moves the plot as needed. The others, write their character's parts, and move with the plot, and can add some sub-plots (sometimes). Just read. You'll understand, if you get into it. We're sorta in the middle of a story (Into The Fire, by Orion Fleet Commander, Blades), but we're nearing the end of it. I'm sure you'll fit right in, once the time comes. These stories are good, though some take a long time. Like I said, Into The Fire, has been moving since October!!! 10 Months!! Good luck, and I'm sure you'll do good. It was fate, man! [ 08-22-2001: Message edited by: Cmdr Nova ]

Cool. I'll report into the Deterrance BG Forum, and see if anyone is interested in our Logo. If not, then I can create something good, that everyone should agree on (if I can find working links of the original BG logos, because I want to base it on the originals, if possible). BTW, since we're on the topic of pictures and such: I was looking through Alex Hawk's site, and looking through the personnel pictures of some of the Orion commanders. It reminded me of something I stumbled on in BCM, when I was just tinkering through some of the files (the file verification gets almost everything; almost). This way, you can edit your Alter-Ego's picture, and your crew if you want. But, I'm not sure about it's effects, once multiplayer will come out. Anyway, it's a pretty nifty thing to do, with your ID Picture. Your ID Pictures are required in Orion Fleet. If you do not have one, please head over to the Orion Forums, and give Alex a picture of some sort, to make into an ID photo. Here are some examples. Most the pictures that I have seen, that Alex made, are all 128x128 pixels, and should work in the game. Just don't forget to convert it into a bmp file beforehand. Isn't it great, actually being on your ship? Nova, over and out. [ 08-22-2001: Message edited by: Cmdr Nova ]

The Orion Fleet logo, should also go along with it. The only place I've seen the 'new' logo is on the www.orionfleet.com site, on the left margin. Here is the link: http://www.orionfleet.com/_borders/oflogo2.gif I've looked back through the Orion Forums, and I have seen old (as in months) posts about logos for the Battle Groups. All of those links seem to be broken now, and I'm interested in looking at them. I'm also wondering if there are any 'new' (signature size--74x88 pixels) logos for the BG's. Nova, over and out.

SC, I had the same 2 CRC errors, as well. I also think I remember hearing other people in the BC Legacy Discussions Forum, saying the same thing. Possibly the upload was the one being corrupted, because many people with the same files with a CRC error, should indicate something. -
Oh, yeah. While looking in the DB for you, I forgot that you were listed under Cadet Dan. Just have an Blades, or an Admin, do the changes. Make sure you tell them you're listed simply as 'Dan'. I guess that's why they forgot. ---- It would be helpful, as future reference, to have your signature name, match the name entered in the DB. Either change your sig, or log into the DB (there's a login button), go to your profile, hit 'Edit this profile', and then make the changes. [ 08-21-2001: Message edited by: Cmdr Nova ]

Congrats, on your promotion, $lik. The topic, "Signature Check" (Page 2), under General Fleet Discussions, of the Orion Fleet Forums, has the information you need. Looks like you'll be calling the newly-commissioned, Sark BG you're new home. Good luck. (Funny. I've been in Orion less than poor $lik, and I'm wishing him good luck....)

I've been listening for a couple weeks. Guess all those little advertising posts by Blades on the Orion Forums, really did work...... B2:Radio's premier show, The Basement is a talk show sorta thing, and has music, and talk, and whatever the hell they've got. It broadcasts live from 9PM-Midnight (GMT, that is), and whenever they're not on-air, you've got music, 24/7, and replays of The Basement occasionally. I recommend you all listen..... But it does get a little 'adult', like Blades said. Let me quote the B2:Radio Site: "Whatever you do, don't let grandma listen .." Of course, you'll all probably tune in, regardless of age..... Like me..... (Shhh, I'm younger than you think!) [ 08-21-2001: Message edited by: Cmdr Nova ]

Funny. I realized that HAL Beta was the guy who made this topic..... He seemed so friendly earlier, talking about how cool it was that an actual President of a software company would communicate with the fanbase... And weeks later, he blows off on SC, and how people shouldn't support him.. Total bullsh**. Good riddance he's gone. *Sigh* --- BTW, Mole. You've probably gotten this a million times already, but that kind of signature is PROHIBITED. Change it appropriately.

Surviving spacebattles tactics
Cmdr Nova replied to desolator's topic in Battlecruiser 3000AD (Legacy)
First posts..... Eeek.. Brings me to this. I didn't notice this until around the time I joined Orion Fleet, about 2-3 weeks ago, and when I was researching about the Fleets..... Attention Admins. and fleet commanders! Man..... Of course I'm 3 1/2 months too late, but My Bad! I can't even remember what I was thinking back when I registered. I probably was even using a different username, for all I knew.... Which is what probably happened, because I don't see myself banned today. --- And, to reflect on how fast time has gone by, I'll post this quote that Epsilon 5 said: quote:Nova? He's a merc. What can you expect from him? Oh, boy do times change. Now we're side by side (sorta), because I joined Orion Fleet..
