  1. [rp] Herro, trust me. You'll never be able to even touch me or my ship. I'll give you this warning, and no further..... [/rp] Herro, I could tell you why I left, but I'd have to kill you... (the only good Gam is a dead one, and you guys will still get what you deserve, eventually.... maybe i should kill you now... nah) It has to do with military 'secrets', *censor* this, mark that out, delete this here and there--you get the picture, I presume? Hey, orders are orders. Perhaps when everything is finalized with Blades, I can shed some light, but that may not be in a while. He'll have to give me the order. Thanks Jigoku. I'll keep in touch, if you lowly newbs need any help. Long live Orion Fleet!!! You Insurgent bunnies really need to watch out, starting now! GalCom just picked up another wonderful asset, right from under your noses........ Nova, over and out! [ 08-02-2001: Message edited by: Cmdr Nova ]
  2. (RP) Briefing Room GCV - McKendrick Alec immediately noticed the wry smile Blades gave, as he replied. Damnit! He remembered the scene at the galley.... After Gallion's question, and exit from the briefing room, Blades dismissed everyone, with this to say: "Good luck to you all, and may the fates smile down on you this day. Dismissed." Nova took those words with a cringe. He knew with every breath, and every moment, he was getting closer to the mission. Closer to the enemy. Closer to probable death. He knew he couldn't back out now, and decided to go on to medibay. He mumbled, "Fates? Damnit, I don't believe in fate. And what we need, is a miracle. That, and a few fully loaded ATVs." And so, Nova and everyone else left the Briefing Room, and headed into Medibay, for their injections. Nova finally decided to go along with the mission, without anymore qualms and/or drunken remarks. Hopefully everyone gets out alive, he thought. War was truly beckoning. --- Later..... Trannsporter Room GCV - McKendrick Ready, and suited up for the mission, Nova, and all the others going down, gathered in the Transporter Room. Everyone else was in full gear as well, and most were hyping themselves up for battle. The other surviving mercenary, going down to Golgotha, Caine, began to speak. "Anyone have experience in this type of a fight?" Only a couple nodded. Nova did have experience on the ground, but didn't nod, because this was a different mission. He decided that this would be one of the most difficult, because they didn't even know how many people they would have to face. Heh, he's probably thinking, "Damnit, now we really are all gonna die." Then again, I could be wrong. The visors on almost everyone's face was closed, now. They were just minutes from the transfer. All they awaited, was the final words from Blades, and then they would be off. (/RP) [ 08-02-2001: Message edited by: Cmdr Nova ]
  3. .....I sounded a bit too grim, didn't I? Well, it's not so bad. I know many folks that could easily take my old job, easily..... Like I said, trust me....... [ 08-01-2001: Message edited by: Cmdr Nova ]
  4. Well, nice to see that lots of newbies have decided to join the ranks of the Indies.. But on to other news... (Uh, I'm not very good at speeches.....) After some talk between Fleet Commander Blades, of Orion Fleet, I've decided to join their elite ranks. Wait Indies! Before you think I've deserted you, read on. I haven't deserted you; not yet, at least. As you know, we at GalCom are always looking for good opportunities to add to our forces. This is one of those such opportunities. It's better for me, and everyone else involved. (You'll see what I mean, soon.) I'll still help out with the Indies, though, and you'll just have to trust me on this one. Now you're wondering about what's going to happen to the Indies without me? I worked hard to establish a working guild of some sort, but failed. I just hope someone will step up to the plate, take my place, pick up where I left off, and accomplish where I failed, as an Indie. Good luck guys, you're really going to need it, without my organization, pushing you through.... Regards to all. Nova, over and out. [ 08-01-2001: Message edited by: Cmdr Nova ]
  5. To all my Indie Commrades, I have urgent news. I'll make a new post about it, soon. You'll all want to hear this. Trust me.
  6. Testing, testing, 123! Hello, everyone, in Orion Fleet. After some discussion between F.C. Blades, and I, I have decided to join the elite ranks of Orion. Just testing my sig, out. Considering we haven't hammered out the details of my transfer to Orion, I am still (as of writing this) unassigned to any battle group or wing, and so have not yet written my BG/Wing in my sig, and the same with my BG/Wing Motto. Just a little FYI. I didn't post this in the New Signature Thread, since I still don't have my official designations yet.. Well, everyone, nice to see all of you, and you definitely will be seeing more of me, the closer we get to BCM and GCO. Glad to meet my new commrades, even though I already know most of you from the RPG Forum, from my days as a Merc/Indie. Nova, over and out.
  7. I'd be leaning towards The Sims, more as well. It's perfectly open-ended, and if you add the expansions, it's perfect. Get both expansions if you can; and if you can't, then at least get the second one (House Party). Also, Maxis's Sims website has lots of downloads, and tons of user-submitted 'households' to add to your neighborhood, for lots of strange 'sim-talk' interactions. quote:Posted by Menchise: If I ever feel the itch for a "god sim", I can always get Populous somewhere. Wow! I haven't played that game in years! I even still have the first SNES version of it. Never tried the newer, 3D (I think) PC ones...
  8. LOL, this is getting good. *Grabs Bucket of Popcorn*
  9. Using UBB Code. You're only supposed to use approved BC Logos, though. See This Link to Learn UBB Code [ 07-31-2001: Message edited by: Cmdr Nova ]
  10. Shouldn't you also add The Independent Way to the list? It's going on right now, parallelling Into The Fire, and not crossing it. How would you handle 2 stories at once? I don't think 2 major stories have co-existed, before. Part 2 is still ongoing, and I'm not sure how many parts it will be, but I'm pretty sure that 2 is the last one. Contact Shingen for that. Independent Way is also pretty big, meaning to say it ain't one of those 1 page, just-for-fun RP's. It definitely deserves to be part of the RP history considering that a Gammulan vs. Terran battle is going to happen in Act 2, I think in Lanix-V. This is a story you shouldn't skip. I'll give a short description ahead. --- It is a battle fought mostly by UCV Terrans vs. a small group of Gam ships, flying towards the Terran Quadrant, who are fought off by a group of Mercs and Assassins, 1 GalCom Vessel, and a Police Cruiser, on patrol passing through the system, and possibly others. This marks one of the first few battles involving UCV's, since the Gammulan Wars started, and is putting Indies on the map. I still need to catch up on it, though, so some of my information may be incorrect, like the players. --- I think Events Following GW2 should say: Events following GW2: Into the Fire Act One: Alliances Into the Fire Act Two: Choices Into the Fire Act Three: Firestorm Into the Fire Act Four: Deliverance Into the Fire Act Five: Operation Golgotha (ongoing) The Independent Way - Part I The Independent Way - Part II (ongoing) Yep, I'm doing this for Indie rights, and so you fleet guys start noticing us, or at least remembering that we're also doing our own stuff as well. That's why TIW was written, in the first place, and I'm helping out the cause. Nothing personal, though. Good luck Eclipse. Once your done, we can finally archive the stories online, for easier newbie access, instead of linking to the forums themselves, and having the new guys look for it. This would mean more people reading our stories, and more people joining, over time. More players, more targets, more fun..... 11. Sorry guys, guess you can't really tie in with Into The Fire as much as we all hoped. I wish we could, some way, but you're in the 'past' by a couple of days. I need to read up on Independent Way, and stuff, because I'm writing a 'personal history' style story for my character, and part of it takes place on Pixan. Where is your battle taking place? In every other way I wouldn't want you to touch Pixan, but that's okay, considering I originally thought of writing in some part about a huge GAM vs. TER battle near Pixan, causing severe damage or destruction of Pixan, while Nova was on the Vulture/McKendrick, which is where he's at right now. Good thing you're near the battle, and I'm still on the McKendrick. Perhaps you'll be the side story I needed, so I wouldn't have to write it myself. Ironic I thought of it before starting to catch up on TIW, just as you were revealing that there was going to be a major battle.... It's going to be interesting, because when I was a newb, I was going to be a merc, but changed my mind, after I wrote myself into Into The Fire as a merc. Looks like I have my work cut out for me, to become a cop in RP, even though in RL I was the very dude who designed the logo that Spuzzum and I use....... If your end to this story is arriving soon (maybe a few weeks), then people on both sides (ITF, TIW) should all start catching up on both stories.
  12. Hey, has this become a "CALLING ALL NEWBIES!!" thread? Lol, well, I'm glad I stirred up some people into joining, and got some newbies into our indie population. Jigoku, choose wisely (as I've said over, and over). But remember that not all Mercenaries are bad, and there's more to being a cop that just your regular traffic violations..... Either way you can't go wrong. --- Here's some fun: Meet the RP tags. They're there to make sure everyone remembers that we're just playing around, and it's just for the Role Playing we do in the RP forum. [rp] And your wrong about the fleets only wanting to show off. At least they're handling the Gammulans, so us Indies won't have to.... [/rp] Check out the RP forum. We could always use a few good heads around those parts. It's a good thing to do, if you're waiting for BCM to come out, or whenever. Come by, and see the cools stories we've written, and RP'd in. And if you don't want to participate, at least read them. They're full of unofficial (notice the bolding) history, and RP was the original reason why the fleets were formed. You definitely won't be disappointed. It's like volumes in an epic series of novels. And the stories keep coming. HEAD DOWN TO THE RPG DISCUSSION FORUM FOR MORE INFORMATION. --- Alright, if you're in BC for multiplayer, I recommend you download BC3K, the new Free Full Version, and the 2 BCM Demos and the extra missions for the Episode 2 demo. Also, read (or at least look over, or skim) the manuals, readme's, FAQ's, and the BCM ship specs guide; all of which are included in the demos. Then PLAY YOUR HEART OUT until you get a feel for the game. Post any questions on any of the appropriate boards (BCM Demo Discussion, BC Legacy Discussions), if you need future assistance. If you want the RP experience as well, follow the above, and you should read the timeline, by DeSylva (one of the original members of this forum), and some of the older stories at the RPG Discussion Forum. I have a guide on which stories to read and links for them, which was posted in another forum; I'll post them here in a bit. --- Good luck you newbs, you really need to get those downloads done (and the 2 demos and 1 free version all are over 80mb each), so you can at least learn about what's goin on! This is Commander Nova, over and out.
  13. I think the reputation system shouldn't do that, considering other Gams should be around by GCO's release. The reputation system should be based on your performance, and if you pick on newbs or not. I may or may not be correct, so SC should chime in a bit. That's a good way to discourage PKing all the newbies, just like in Diablo 2, and many other MMOG's.
  14. I kinda like the first one, but my Chris, my cousin, a.k.a. Sebastian/Commander Cypher, insists on using his.... Oh well..... And Blades, he is crazy.... Crazy people: can't beat 'em, so you gotta like 'em. I'm crazy as well, I guess it runs in our family, eh, Chris? [ 08-01-2001: Message edited by: Cmdr Nova ]
  15. (Excerpt from GCO FAQ) Q. WHAT PLAY CHOICES WILL I HAVE? A. You have all the play choices present in BCM, and much more. Here are the races, castes and careers that you can play: Alien Races: Terran, Syrion, Kandorian, Empirian, Vesperon, Droidan, Falkerie, Mandorian, Gammulan, Zelon, Valkerie, Credian. Castes: Earthcom, Insurgent, Military, Explorer, Colonist, Scientist, Raider, Police, Assassin, Diplomat, Mercenary, Paramedic, Criminal, Trader, Hacker, Journalist, Tourist. Careers: Commander, Elite Force Pilot, Planetary Support Pilot, Elite Force Marine, Mobile Infantry Marine, Space Force Marine. Doesn't this mean the Criminal, Hacker, Journalist, Tourist, and Colonist castes should also be available in the Fleet DB? Or are you guys waiting for something? No major gripes from me, but I'm just wondering......... [ 07-30-2001: Message edited by: Cmdr Nova ]

Careers: Commander, Elite Force Pilot, Planetary Support Pilot, Elite Force Marine, Mobile Infantry Marine, Space Force Marine. Choose wisely, especially if you're registering in the Fleet DB anytime soon. You won't be able to change certain aspects of your character, once you initialy register......... For example, I'm a Terran/Police/Commander.
  17. Welcome aboard, as well, Jaxom.
  18. Let's start with my views on MMOG's, meaning all styles, just not RPGs. I love MMOG's because it makes the game more dynamic, and gives it more 'soul' and depth. Of course there is the problem of PKing, but, I think we'll solve that later. --- XenoZohar, about the Journalist fleet idea... I like the idea, but since you're new, I'll help you get some facts straight. I'll remind everyone who's fogotten, and teach you newbies a thing or two about UCV's. UCV's as in Explorer, Police, Scientist, Raider, Assassin, Diplomat, Mercenary, Paramedic, Trader, Commercial, and everything else that isn't GalCom/EarthCom/Insurgent. Fleets are not an option for indies (which is what we've come to call UCV's). It is for GalCom/EarthCom/Insurgent types only, and GalCom/EarthCom/Insurgent types must be in a fleet (I'm pretty sure). If you want to make some sort of organized group of indies, you're free to do so. You need some people to work with you, and need to follow the stuff that's been written in these locations: Fleet FAQ, the Asset Choices Page, and probably the Misc. Race/Caste Forum, and possibly the RPG Discussion Forum. Calling those groups 'clans' is prohibited (by SC, Derek Smart; President of 3000ad, Creator of the BC series). You can make guilds, corporations (most likely for trader, commercial, jounalist), and most other names you can think of, as long as TacOps and the SC approve them (having a Crime Ring to play police against would be nice). See the Misc. Race/Caste Forum if you're interested in becoming an Indie! The list is above, although Journalist doesn't seem to be available in the Fleet DB (yet). --- Game_Ender, I'm pretty sure that SC said it (FP in Ships and Stations) should be in GCO. That means, it's around "wish-list" status, although I'm sure it'll be at the top of that list. Of course, it's been a while since that was posted by SC. Things change, so I think he'll have to shed some more light on GCO's special features. Of course, his (and most other people's) priority is to BCM, so we can give him some slack. --- Epsilon 5, I'm worried about that, as well. I definitely wouldn't do that, since I used to be a merc, and have made enough enemies now. But, still that would pose a major problem. Looks like I'll have my work cut out for me, takin out 'Good-Cops-Turned-Bad', instead of infiltrating Assassin and Raider guilds..... Perhaps SC or someone will come up with a good idea of solving that, soon, or at least before BCM's multiplayer comes out. --- While writing the above, I noticed that the Journalist caste is not available in the Fleet DB, and it isn't marked in the Fleet FAQ. Oh well, besides; like SC said, their job will be in GCO, not BCM, and the Fleet FAQ and Fleet DB has only been updated for BCM. They can always add more, and update later. Still waiting for BCM, and noticed the quote in your sig, SC! Hehe, "Its READY when its ready, and right now it ain't ready." I think I'll use the popular confusing acronym: IRWIRARNIAR!! This is Nova, over and out.........
  19. LOL, Chris! IMO, the quote seems more of a police one... But other than that, I have absolutely no comment... (It's just an opinion ) Did you start reading up on the older RPG's as well? You really need to read up and learn about the history of it, to actually be able to understand and fit in the story.
  20. Let me answer some of those questions, as well. Your castes choices are as follows: Military, EarthCom, Insurgent, Explorer, Police, Scientist, Raider, Assassin, Diplomat, Mercenary, Paramedic, Trader, and Commercial. What each of those castes does, is located in the caste appendix for BC3K. -- You were talking about making up a character? Are you thinking about joining our ongoing RP stories? This is a great way to make some allies (and enemies), out here in our online community. It's basically a forum where people write stories (some long and epic, others short and just for fun), where others participate with their characters. For more information, you should ask the good guys down at the RPG Discussion forum for some of the lowdown on it. Don't be afraid to ask. Just make a new topic, and ask what you want in clear sentences (there are people who have trouble doing that here....). Once again, good luck, Malleus!
  21. Malleus, you've come to the right place. I've been helping other indies, such as myself, learn about the game, and the many aspects to the BattleCruiser Universe. (Without the using as much Propaganda as those fleets.... Glad you decided to go UCV before posting ) The first steps would be to download the manual and appendix to the original BattleCruiser 3000ad. You can find the download page here. That should get you off on the right foot, to learn about the basis of the universe, the different alien races, the castes, and political organizations of the universe. Also, a zip file containing some misc craft pix and the ship specs readme from the Demo of BCM is located here. I also would suggest you downloading the Demo(s) for BattleCruiser: Milennium, which is slated for release later this summer, and possibly the freeware version of BC3K--the game that started it all. This is good to get a feel for the game's dynamics, and how to actually play (I suggest the freeware first, then the BCM demo). You obviously have to read the manual first. I'll put you on my AOL Buddy List. Just give me a holler sometime (AOL ScreenName: HTMLjedi), if you need anything else, or you can go to the Fleet Related Discussions, or General Discussions, and ask questions there (use the forum groupings respectively). There are a lot more people with much more experience than I, around here. Ask, and thy question shall be answered. Well, see ya all later. (Yess! Us Indies are starting to catch up to the Fleets, by population..... ) [ 07-30-2001: Message edited by: Cmdr Nova ]
  22. LOL!!! I'm sorta wondering, as well, Soback. But he does sorta remind me of when I was a newbie, asking obvious questions..... I might say RTFM, but I'm actually going to explain. --- Um, NovaEM, the Armor is the Hull (I'm pretty sure). Also, the ability to fly your ship depends on which systems are damaged or not. i.e. If your nuclear reactor is severely damaged, you won't get enough power, and consequently won't get all or any of your displays, and your engines may not work. If you want to correct this, just aim the top of your ship towards the sun, which gives the solar reactors enough power to make up for the nuclear one, then reallocate the power, through logistics. (Unless your logistics computer is destroyed; then you're a sitting duck, unless you can get towed by a shuttle craft to a station.) It's there for realism. The AI can fly with low power just fine. All you need is really just enough to keep life support, and engine power, and you can actually fly. I'm not sure why all your systems are damaged at 70%, so you can't fly. The way they handle damage, and power allocation has been almost the same since BC3k. It's most likely not going to change before BCM is released, so live with it. [ 07-28-2001: Message edited by: Cmdr Nova ]
  23. Yeah, seriously. I won't take it against you though. I'll actually take the time to explain, for everyone who's been out of the loop lately. BCM was originally slated for release in May. The current relese date is August 8 (EB World), because of some finishing touches to some of the engines (mostly the new terrain engine), and the dev team's determination to eliminate all bugs. See the VCF (Version Control File) for more info. It shows you the work in progress, and known bugs, in the current Beta version. The smaller those lists get, the closer we are to getting BCM released. Anyone have the link again? I seem to have lost it... In the meantime, SC (Derek Smart, creator), has released 2 demos, and has released an extra mission for the 2nd demo. Also, a second extra mission is expected to be released around this weekend. --- Multiplayer will not make it into the first release of BCM, due to more bugs, and the lack of serious stress testing. This will definitely make it into a patch soon after the game is released. ----- And to your first couple questions. Being the one who created the UCV's and Fleets thread, I can easily say that you obviously didn't read the posts, did you? The entire thread compares UCVs and Fleets; turned into more of an Indie Rights forum, in Chavik's words. Just read the damn thread. For Newbies, and semi-lurkers: Some Facts to Get Straight: 1. Fleets are only for GalCom, EarthCom, and the Insurgency. Otherwise, you're a UCV. If you want a UCV 'Fleet', then you're not a UCV. 2. A person under control of a ship is a Commander, not a Captain. That is a rank used in several fleets, but it is definitely not a universal rank. Also, Admiral is also a rank, only for use by the Insurgency. And Cmdr. Eu, we still are in the middle of creating some sort of Trader/Commercial Corporation, and have also tried Mercenary/Assassin/Raider Guilds as well. All were unsuccessful. I've been trying to gain support to start one, but everyone's been really busy lately. Hopefully someone can help out, one of these days. I mean, I designed, and sent in the Police logo you see below, nearly 100% by myself. The first step for us UCV's to get guilds/corporations! --- Finally, the SALES INFO PAGE has the proper links to buy BCM from. EB World for USA/Canada, and you can preorder directly from 3000ad for anywhere outside of North America. I'll end with a pre-emptive "You're Welcome." [ 07-28-2001: Message edited by: Cmdr Nova ]
  24. I'd personally like to see a big fleet vs. big fleet showdown, like Galcom vs. Gammulan or Insurgent. That would be cool! Can't wait to see the next mission you dish out, SC!
