  1. quote:I mean, If I wanted a ship 5 kilometers in length, with 60 pta turrets, 20 main guns and 48 fighter, going at 30km/s and that the jumping time would be 5 seconds, the shields 12k and armor 50k, could I? Why stop there? Go all the way, and build a full-scale Death Star!! Looks like we won't be using Randoms anymore.... Hehe. --- But seriously; if we could, then we would, right?
  2. Well, when you do get it over to Tacops, make sure it looks prefessional, at least. They're serious perfectionists! It took me like 5 re-makes to get the police logo that I was working on accepted! Um, you're doing great so far. Keep it up!! I'm sure you'll be up and running before BCM is out!
  3. Here's the post by Blades, just so you know: quote:Posted by Blades (Orion Fleet Forum): Two ways you can deal with this. If it's a hostile of a caste that isnt normally recognized as being hostile (Such at Tourist) then you can treat them either as the hapless lost (In which case, you usually detain, interogate and debrief them) or treat them as spies (In which case you detain, interogate and imprison them). However, since the majority of these visitors will be NPC's, it's best to let them know they are in the wrong neck of the woods (A few IOD blasts should convince them to vacate) or burn 'em up like toast. Player controlled assets, however, should be warned away. If they dont comply, vape 'em. Of course, any caste that isnt directly adversarial, but is of quasi-military origin (Police, for example) should be vaped. Ah, sod it. If they wander onto my turf, and glow red - make 'em dead. Isn't this right, Ep5? BTW, keep it up Jeffery, and everyone! [ 08-14-2001: Message edited by: Cmdr Nova ]
  4. True, and if I'm desperate (and if FC Blades, or my Battle Group Leader approves contact with mercenaries), then I shall. On the same note, if an aggressive caste (military, police, mercenary, raider, assassin, criminal; from the BC3K Castes Appendix (N)), of an emeny race is in our territory, WILL BE ATTACKED (GCO/BCM-Multiplayer Human Controlled Assets). This is what Orion Fleet has decided on enemy races. But, if you're only a harmless caste (tourist, trader, paramedic, scientist, jounalist, explorer, diplomat, commercial, colonist; BC3K Appendix N), of an enemy race, then will be detained and interrogated. If we decide you're just lost, then we'll send you on your way. If we decide you're spies, you'll be imprisioned. Just a snipet from the new Orion Fleet Rules of Engagement. So, for anyone who decides on being a Gammulan Trader, watch out where your trade routes are. --- I think this is where you director guys shall come in. Start thinking and figuring out how to organize, so no one unnecessary gets killed. Your job begins soon. And when BCM and GCO come out, you'll have to respect all Fleet's space, or one day you'll be dead in the water. Check with other fleet officers to see their rules of engagement towards Indies, like you, so you can move your trade (and merc/assassin/raider) routes, towards neutral zones. Bottom Line: Consider yourselves warned. This isn't a threat. I'm doin this to help you, remember?
  5. More words of wisdom: And if you're trying to 'save' one of your friends in the Corporation, while attacking GalCom ships, you'll definitely be shot down. As long as you don't cross the line, we can be okay, though. Just watch out. If you are at the point where you have to ask "how much is too much?", they you've probably gone too far, and you'll probably have to start running, if you know whats good for you. So watch out on who you attack. You'll never know how many allies they may have. ---- Update: Just went to the Intercorp Site! Hehe, Hitman Incorporated!!! I think the name's gonna drive off those high-paying customers. [ 08-14-2001: Message edited by: Cmdr Nova ]
  6. quote:Originally posted by jstuart: For example: If I have a contract (all hypotheticcl), and I am returning to say home base, and I see a couple of Gammulan ships beating up a Galcom Terran trader vessel, because I am a Terran, by choice, and yet the Galcom is in the Corporation, who is to say, I can't open fire on the Gammulan vessels and save the Terran Galcom vessels in order to make a buck, because I am a Mercenary? And Interesting point? Does that then get me in trouble with the Corp and possibly a bounty on my head? All in all, count me in. Welcome, newbie, to the BC Universe. I'm Nova, the usual "welcome-wagon" to most newbies in the forums. Lets start with the basics: GalCom, EarthCom, and the Insurgency, are military organizations. They have no affiliation with any Indie Guild/Corporation, and saving a GalCom ship, probably won't get you a reward. Just depends on who you're saving. Also, GalCom is not completely Terran. The Terrans, Empirians, and the Vesperons are currently GalCom members. However, this does not mean that all people in these 3 castes have to be GalCom. The Insurgency is mostly (if not, 100%), Terran. In conclusion, you aren't obliged to save GalCom ships, and you are not 'friendly' with GalCom, and you can't have a GalCom Terran Trader vessel. ---- As I said above, you might not get paid for your good deeds, towards other castes. Also, you shouldn't get in trouble for saving a ship or two that aren't in your caste, or even not in the corporation. ---- Man, I should start writing up a big book of BC Basics for the newbies. It seems like no one has even read the manual for BC3K..... Or, maybe I should just quit and keep saying RTFM? Nah. [ 08-14-2001: Message edited by: Cmdr Nova ]
  7. Nice and evil, just like you (with a touch of your strange humor). Anyway, you held down shift when you were closing the last tag, making it [/i}. Bye now!
  8. If you don't understand, put the SC posts in chronological order, instead of what you did. Summary: Message 1 (5-20): He won't make individual ship levels, because it would take far too long to make it. Message 2 (5-24): RTF Message Message 3 (8-9): He's just hiring folks. He may or may not have the individual ship levels, but we do know we're getting the stations. Time will tell. Just be more patient, BCM isn't even out, and SC can't fully start working on GCO, if he's still got BCM to finish and polish.
  9. LMAO, a thievery division! I don't think badly of Raiders, though.. Its down to the opinion of the folks who put the place together, what they accept and don't accept. Some raiders may be good, though. RP wise, the "Big Indie 3" (mercs, assassins, raiders), could possibly be joined, sorta............
  10. *applauds* Keep it going guys! On a side note, I don't recall me saying anything about a board of directors, but oh well...... ----- And Riga (and everyone else directly related to the project), you're welcome, for the rating. You guys deserved it. [ 08-13-2001: Message edited by: Cmdr Nova ]
  11. Ooohhh, a triathalon! Looks like I'll have to start practicing in my ATV, now!
  12. There isn't a patch to get out of debug mode. You just have to edit the .bat file, and remove the /d1 command from the file. If you have the problem where it searches for the CD (after you take it out of debug mode), then you do need a patch. I'll post the link here: File Planet: BC3K 2.09 Freeware intro anim fix. I suggest everyone download this, because it fixes a small error in the Opening Video, which makes the video say an error, in the middle of the Interceptor run in the asteroids. If you combine this with removing the /d1 tag in the .bat file, you will successfully remove debug mode, and it should increase some FPS on systems. --- Also, the GBS and Playmod programs are in the GBS and GBSCheats folders, respectively. Note that you have to copy the playmod.exe file, and the bat, and cmd files to the main BC3K folder, to get it to work. See the documentation for info. But, warning! There is a glitch, if you activate the flag, "set cheat 1", on the Playmod program, that makes all units get stuck in the SDeck Aft Corridor. You've been warned. Playmod 1 uses that cheat, so I wouldn't use it if I were you, unless you edit the .bat file yourself. You'll have to resort to raising the AI of your troops individually with their own "set [officer/marine/pilot/.......] [(unit #; as in officer 1-8, marine 1-20, pilot 1-8)]intelligence 100" flags. I only did the officers, just because I didn't feel like using the time. I also love using the "create guest "(name)" [1-58]" flag. I put myself in my own characters ship! For those who don't advocate cheating, try this: Set the "create intruder [1-58]" flag, where 1-58 is a location on the ship, numbered 1-58. See the playmod.txt if you want. Adds some early suspense to the game. Add multiple copies of the same flag for more intruders (up to 40)! Got myself killed by making 8 intruders in the bridge! Damnit, I spent half of this post talking about the playmod program.... Hey, I just learned about it today! You should too! [ 08-11-2001: Message edited by: Cmdr Nova ] [ 08-11-2001: Message edited by: Cmdr Nova ]
  13. I narrowed the problem to Cheat #1. I used the Free 2.09 Version, if you're wondering. Not Playmod 1, mind you. It's the "set cheat 1" flag that makes all troops/units/people/whatever get stuck in S Deck Aft Corridor. Problem solved...... UPDATE: Playmod 1 uses cheat 1, so it could be confused. Just try not to misinform any newbies, okay? [ 08-11-2001: Message edited by: Cmdr Nova ]
  14. That's the idea I had a while ago. The place to find jobs, easier. In doing so, newbies should also be able to get the hang of the gaming universe easier.
  15. Well, in GCO, you're supposed to be able to teleport to other ships, as intruders. Perhaps you could 'hijack' the ship, as well. Hmmm. I'm just speculating, though. But it would be cool.
  16. quote:.......and even though Nova and various others have tried their very best, there has been a severe lack of interest. It wasn't as bad as you say. There just weren't enough folks at the time. That's why soon after, I was picking up newbies by the handful, and increasing the population of the Indies. The Indies have matured enough, and have enough people, and I'm sure that you guys can get down to the work now. --- Finally, at least you're getting down to setting up shop! Well, I'm sure I've set you off on the right foot. If you have anymore problems, feel free to tell me. I'm still watching you all, and I'll gladly help if you ask. Good luck.
  17. I'm sure you 'should', but they'll have to decide. The Asset Choices page says: "Only GAMMULAN MILITARY COMMANDER [race/caste/career] has access to the STORMCARRIER super carrier". Someone told me that the FAQ's and Fleet Info pages are official (as in SC's orders), until he updates them, so that is most likely yes.
  18. (When I was still a merc,) I asked aramike for a SpaceStar Super Cruiser, and he set it up, on the Fleet DB. ---- I don't remember aramike saying any such thing about which cruisers people can have. So, I'm asking why, can't you have those heavy cruisers? They're not as good as my SpaceStar (which I still own in Orion Fleet). I mean, its only a heavy cruiser, compared to my super cruiser (excuse me if I sound like I'm bragging). --- I even took the time to upload the zip file, so I suggest everyone researches the ships, and their stats (speed, weapons, HyperJump recharge times, HJ transit times, etc..), like I did, before choosing one. You should always choose wisely, because in BCM, you just might regret your choice.
  19. Any mercenary commander can command any cruiser or transport, as in the Assets Selection Page. Also, the information for available ships for other castes is in there as well. To see the specific ships, you might need to see the Ships Specs file, bundled with BCM Episode 1 Demo. --- At one point, SC uploaded the file to the 3000ad Server, but the link is a 404 now. I did upload the files (with some ship images), to my AOL FTP Server. Download it here. (960,223 Bytes; ZIP File) [ 08-07-2001: Message edited by: Cmdr Nova ]
  20. Seriously, you should at least dual boot to another older Windows OS, because when XP comes out, you won't have your good old DOS anymore, and most (all?) DOS games won't work. As long as you've got ME right now, I see no trouble in your boat, until you go XP. I run ME myself. ---- I've repartitioned my drive, already, and have 98 and ME, all ready for me for my upgrade to XP, later this year.
  21. You're getting Internal Error 2355, right? You're probably referencing to this post about the same error. I did have a problem twice with the E2 Demo. Yes, I have AOL, yes, I only download at 2.7k max, and yes, my phone lines are bad (noisy, old, junky). Took me a week and a half to get it right, but it eventually worked. 598, if you have any of the problems I described above (2.0k downloading is a sure sign of bad phone lines), then try to download it all at once, instead of getting it, stopping it, and picking it up later. Sometimes, that can cause problems in the downloads. Also, some file downloaders, such as DAP (Download Accelerator), which split the file in 4, and getting them on seperate connections can also lead to bad file integrity. When having the problems with the E2 Demo, I was using DAP at the time, and switched to GOZilla, which has since been working fine. That should help ----- If you still believe it's the installers, even after all of the info we've given you, then go to www.installshield.com, and go annoy the InstallShield guys there. Just kidding. But you should go there if you still get a persistent error, even after the steps we've given you.
  22. If you're looking for a BCM Ship Name, see the Fleet DB, and the list of commanders sorted by asset name. This is the list of the current registered ship names for RP/BCM. And really, rename that ship. Look up a random word in the dictionary if you have to.
  23. I use it as well. Seems everyone likes to use it, because it's free, and simple. Very little set up required, to get it to work. Good for every kind of home connection.
  24. Okay, I'll help you people get in line. First, whoever wants to organize it, has to get some people who agree with him/her, and then get them together. Second, COME UP WITH A NAME! It's probably the most important thing, because you can't have the rules without the guild in place. Thrid, make a logo (optional). It should be a jpg, 74x87 pixels and have a black background. Finally, lay down the rules, and stuff. Everything has to be sent in to TACOPS (Tactical Operations). Logo, and Guild info, included. You should also have your own website, or something, but that's optional. Every fleet (except PRIME) so far, has their own HQ Website, for info. Being completely universal, and/or assuming everyone will be under you, is a big no no. After you set up, then you'll make your presence known, by putting together a station, or base (in GCO), getting new members, and whatnot. You can't get a large militant force set up just like that. It takes time, and this is a MMOG. SC said (somewhere), that ships can attack other ships, Police cruisers and GalCom/Insurgent/EarthCom people can attack their own people and go traitor. It's an open universe, and that's that. Live with it, or don't play the game. You can't make up laws of honor like that, that are supposed to apply to all of a caste. Nova, out. (And if I missed anything, you other vets can chime in....) [ 08-06-2001: Message edited by: Cmdr Nova ] [ 08-06-2001: Message edited by: Cmdr Nova ]
  25. I hear you Malleus. Just try to convince everyone else to do the same. You'll still have to gain Fleet trust. And that's a hard thing to follow. Also, stop calling it a Mercs Code of Honor. Call it the (Insert Guild Name Here) Code of Honor, or whatever. I've said it too many times. Just don't make it sound universal, or the idea will be squashed, when you send it in.
