I used to have cable, but I moved, and had to get rid of it. When it gets to my area, I just might get it again.

Oh, and I still don't know what the hell I was doing when I wrote that in real life. Oh well, at least this stirs things up a bit. -
Into The Fire Act Four - Deliverence
Cmdr Nova replied to Blades's topic in Role Playing Discussions
Sorry Blades, nothing personal. I'm only 14 years old (I'd like to know if I am the youngest here; so far I am, to my knowledge). I was blowing off some steam, 'cuz some guy at school kept pissin' me off yesterday. I guess my mood gets in my writing. Oh and, remember those posts back in Act 3? Forget about my past and that stuff. I'm making revisions to my character. (Background Music for Scene: Matchbox Twenty - Mad Season) If you've heard it, it really fits Nova's trouble here (lyric wise). (RP) Nova took off, looking for something to do. Work always got stress of his mind. Well, strike 3 to my extremely bad day. Nearly getting killed by Gams, almost oversleeping while the ship was collapsing, and this. Whatever. Nova was beginning to realize exactly what Somerset was talking about. He felt lost and hopeless for the first time, since that time..... No. He wouldn't let himself drift back to the past. He couldn't. It would just push him farther. He knew it was really his fault that most of that stuff happened. He was just using Blades as an excuse. S#%@, I could just about jump out of an airlock now. He could almost feel a part of his brain saying, "That can be arranged....." Ben's probably right. I should stop messing around and have some respect. Maybe I drank more than I thought.... No, I'm doing it again. I've got to stop doing this blame thing. Hell, a war's gonna break out if we don't succeed, and I'm here fighting a war with myself. Oh god, I forgot about the mission..... Man, this could have my ass of the mission team. Nova quickly abouted face and headed to his guest quarters for some working. --- Commander Savage, If you do not know about the Galley incident, I was saying some rude comments about you in the Galley, after some drinks. I regret having caused a disturbance in the Galley. Furthermore, I completely retract all opinions and conversations. If you wish, I could be taken off of our impending mission crew, but I prefer to stay a part of the plan, as long as I get some rest soon. Once again, I am sorry for having said rude comments about my superior officer, and I strongly believe that I was completely wrong about my comments. -(Mercenary) Commander Nova --- Stress has really been getting the upper hand on me. Man, why did I have to accept the crew position on the Vulture, or at least take part of this mission? Our Commander said that it was top secret, and that it involved the future of humanity. Nova reminded himself that he was in a Galcom controled vessel for the second time since the mission started. He took a deep breath. Maybe I should stop drinking..... (/RP) Um, I wrote this in little segments during the day. Well, it won't fix my reputation, but I can't be stripped of rank (my ship doesn't embark on its shakedown cruise until June 3, RPG time). At first I was worried about not being noticed in the RP, but now I'm worried about being enemy #1 on this ship. Sigh. -

What a mess I've gotten myself into. Like I said earlier, this was probably one of the worst days of Nova's life. Well, I've got some RL stuff to do today and maybe tomorrow, so I won't be able to check up until Friday. -
Into The Fire Act Four - Deliverence
Cmdr Nova replied to Blades's topic in Role Playing Discussions
Hey Ben, according to ICQ, your birthday is tomorrow. Happy birthday, Ben (if that information is correct, of course)!!! (RP) GCV McKendrick Galley After grabbing some steak from the nutripak food processors, Nova picked up a small bottle of vodka and looked for someone to talk to. He spotted Commander Somerset and Akuma, and wondered if he should join in. Akuma and Ben were having some sort of conversation. He heard the name Blades. Hmmm. Blades. The ignorant foolish bastard. I think its worth a nice talk with someone to see if I'm the only one who thinks about Blades this way. Just as he was thinking that, Akuma stood up from her seat and started saying a whole bunch of stuff. "...If he has orders for me, tell him to do it in person. I'm not taking calls. I've just about had it up to here." Nova walked up to Somerset as he was ordering another Chivas Regal from the droid. "Well I haven't seen a commanding officer do that, with all due respect, sir. Care if I join you? With permission to speak freely sir, of course." "Go ahead." Ben had a hard complexion on his face. He was worried about something. "I heard you talking about that sh$%y excuse for an Officer, Blades, and saw Akuma go ballistic. Speaking of which, what's been up with her lately?" "Well, a while back, Akuma learned about her family and.............." After he explained to Nova the story of Akuma's Uncle, Rattler, and how she came to be in command of a Galcom ship and how she nearly broke down earlier in the mission, Nova decided to change the subject, to something that would possibly determine the outcome of their lives. "Oh, now I get it. Hmm, Uncle. That's gotta be harsh. You know, I was almost a Galcom officer; I prefer not to talk about the almost part." Nova paused to take a sip of his half-empty Vodka bottle. "So, um, what do you think Blades is gonna do with the mission?" "You know, nobody seems to know what the hell the bugger's doing." Of course, Ben had more to say about Blades, and wanted to tear him limb from limb, but he couldn't say it (reputation and all...). Nova could see it in his eyes when Ben spoke of him. "Yeah. We lost a whole bunch of troops, and we haven't started the mission yet. And for what? A high ranking Insurgent? This is screwed up, man. Blades says the mission is still go. I just want to know if someone with your experience thinks its still an acceptable risk?" I'm afraid of what'll happen when we get there. In like 1 day I just might be dead. What a thought. Blades better have some tricks up his sleeve to plan this out. (/RP) Well, Ben, carry on the conversation if you'd like, next few posts. Just hope Blades doesn't come and overhear us talking about him...... -

My bad. Well, I'll update it. DELETED my post above. At first I didn't know if it was Blades or not. Sorry for the mix-up. Thanks Ben. Update: Having Ben Somerset check some dialog between him and me in the galley. Will post soon. [ 04-24-2001: Message edited by: Cmdr Nova ] -

(RP) GCV McKendrick Medibay Nova left Medibay feeling a little better. He was having some trouble, because he forgot to take some pills or eat something before leaving, which would have taken the teleportation stress out of him. Most people took pills with their food from the nutripak processor. Earlier he recieved a message about a briefing for the mission, to be scheduled later. Oh yeah, finally we get to the mission. We've lost more than half our men to the Gams, and still hope we can pull this off? For a top ranking Insurgent? Whatever. Alec Nova headed down to the Galley for a bite to eat and maybe some drinks. Man. I almost got myself killed this time. I wonder if I should keep doing this. Maybe I should settle down and relax a bit. (/RP) NOTE: DELETED GALLEY SECTION, WILL POST FIXED LATER [ 04-24-2001: Message edited by: Cmdr Nova ] -
Of course, not everyone agrees with everyone else in the same country. I've been seeing stuff about stereotypes in the news and saying stuff about interrogating all chinese americans. First off, I'd like to say that the news has too much control over people's minds and it's a bad thing. Remember the confusion over the presidential election? Why the hell did those Chinese people come here? They didn't like communism. I think America's alliances have been wearing thin in Asia, the Middle East, and Africa. If we screw up once, then we could be at war. After Israel had the infighting recently, we have forgotten about Iraq, Peru, Cuba, China, and possibly American Insurgents. Something to think about before we all die a few years down the road.......

Okay. Akmatov, I searched Winfiles/Cnet and they have nothing on your Video Board/Card (Silicon Motion). But, I was able to find something for your computer. Here is a Gateway support page for your Gateway Solo 2550 Laptop Computer. Solo 2550 Support Here are official Gateway driver pages for your Video and Bios chipsets. Gateway.com - Drivers - Solo 2550 Video Gateway.com - Drivers - Solo 2550 Bios According to the Gateway Support page, your chipset is a/an SMI Lynx EM4 Video Graphics Accelerator (Built In AGP). Try to look up on Winfiles for SMI. Having so much time on my hands comes in handy sometimes; Glad to Help.

On my ATI graphics card, it has some other options on 5 extra tabs on the advanced box. check your documentation (either system or graphics card). Also, for technical reference, your display adapter is your graphics board/video board. Also, you could also try to check for any special display programs from your manufacturer (in the system tray, start menu, or control panel). If you see some option like synchronization or monitor sync or something of the like, then try to toggle the setting and check if that helps. Most newer video cards have some optimizations, which can affect full screen dos programs. You should be able to find something about your card from Winfiles and going to the drivers section; they have links to the manufacturers' site, or (if the company is out of business) a 3rd party developer site that makes drivers for it. You can email me if you want more technical help. I'm usually available from 3:30-9 PM Eastern Time, and can set aside some time to get back the same day. If you send it at other times of day, I'll reply ASAP.
-
Go into your display properties and check settings-> advanced and look for something in there that says composite sync. and disable or enable it if you have it on/off. it affects dos programs on my computer so i turned it off. reply soon, i'll be waiting.

Hey! Where'd "Engineering 101" go?
Cmdr Nova replied to Joel Schultz's topic in Role Playing Discussions
The Guardian Field keeps the ship and the crew safe from harm. It has 2 components: The SIF (Structural Integrity Field), and the Inertial Compensator. The SIF keeps the ship from exploding/imploding in certain conditions (system malfunction, superhigh gravity, some explosion/implosion circumstances (i.e. air pressure inside ship vs. vacuum of space effect), hyperspace and others). Also, it keeps it from going into strange twisted shapes while at super high speeds. The Inertial Compensator keeps the crew from feeling those same effects of high speed and inertia. (which is pretty much what you said) Ben Somerset explained it to me like this (Into The Fire, Act 4, Page 1): quote: Cmdr Nova, The SIF (Structural Integrity Field) is what holds the ship together when making high speed transits. A ship entering hyperspace goes from 0 to extreme speed in a few microseconds. Under normal circumstances, this would immediately turn the ship into something like a deflated ballon. The SIF is designed to hold the ships structure together, so this doesn't happen. Working in concert with the SIF would be the inertial compensator. While the SIF holds the ship together, the inertial compensator keeps the crew from being turned into salsa on the nearest aft bulkhead when a stressful transit (through hyperspace, jumpgate, or wormhole) occurs. None of the components (specifically) isn't mentioned in the BC parts list IFAIK, so I assume (which can be bad ) that both are part of the "Guardian Field" that protects the ship. But IMO they should be referred to seperately, since they do different jobs, even if they are part of the same system. Just my $0.02 on the matter. -
Hey! Where'd "Engineering 101" go?
Cmdr Nova replied to Joel Schultz's topic in Role Playing Discussions
Matt G.: #1: I don't think it's possible to get another ship caught in hyperspace, because "hyperjumping" is when you: Bring your ship up to "hyperspace". Hyperspace is sort of: (in example) if (normal) space itself was a 2D plane, then hyperspace would be the plane directly above and below it (yes, the same thing; hard to explan completely). The hyperdrive makes you "dip" into hyperspace as if it were a body of water, so you are still in space, but aren't visible (like in BCM, how you go invisible, but are detectable by other ships). Then you traverse the same distance, but faster than in normal space because (i forgot the exact reason but it's one of the two or both combined): the amount of hyperspace is scaled differently than the coordinates in normal space (like having 2 different pieces of graph paper, but different measurements from point (x1,y1) to (x2,y2), and/or you fly at CTL (Close to Light), Light, or FTL (Faster Than Light) speeds while in "hyperspace". Exit Hyperspace. (You can also read DeSylva's post for another explanation, but it doesn't really match ingame physics.) It's more complicated than that, and was discussed before the Engineering 101 thread was deleted, but that's a good load of it and is what i can remember from it. #2: Yes, but it takes a ton of power to traverse such a distance of hyperspace, so a ship alone can't do it. In the game, there are jump gates that do this for you, but only go to it's set destination. Oh, and if you collide and get certain damage, or something happens during a jump (the target is destroyed as you start entering hyperspace, reactor failure, etc), you may also end up in null space. Null space is an empty void in uncharted space, with a wormhole that transports you back to "real space". You can only get there by a jump error or problem. I'm pretty new to this game universe, so I don't really know much, but the engineering 101 thread was really helpful. I think we should have another tech discussion soon. That's one of my favorite kinds of discussions. --- BCM Release Date: 5/27/2001 @ EBGames --- It's been a month since the 1st demo came out, and there are supposed to be 6; anyone know when the other 5 come out (they all have to come out soon, cuz SC (Derek; manager) said they'd definitely make a summer deadline? I'll be watching.... -
Hey! Where'd "Engineering 101" go?
Cmdr Nova replied to Joel Schultz's topic in Role Playing Discussions
Well, Joel, I remember in the BC3k manual, how they explained cloned people not having their experience back to where they had it. It said that the clone had the exact mental pattern of the crewmember at the point that he/she joined the ship (the time that the clone data was inputed to the systems). That means there shouldn't be any security risk of even a commander getting cloned; they could probably get the same, if not more, information from the other officers' cloning data. Just my $0.02. -

My bad. I forgot to tell you that it's the McKendrick, not the Leo, that has transported the troops over to it. Hey, what rooms are on Deck 4? Those people should be alive for a minute or less. But you know, no one can save you now; you can still get into a space suit if there are any and jump, if that can be arranged..... -
Outlaw, where have you been? Looked for you in Indie Fourm, and in the RPG section. There's an Indie RPG if you want in. They still want more peeps, but I'm caught up in the current one (Into the Fire). I play almost every kind of game. I love RPG's, (Almost) any kind of sim, and strategy games. Oh, and FPS games are okay for me too. Faves (By Genre): Oni (just got the game; love it!) Cmdr Nova replied to Blades's topic in Role Playing Discussions
Sorry Foss, well I had to add this stuff in (didn't want you to die and all ), Blades said that we wouldn't wait for you, and it seems like they weren't waiting for anyone. I just got back from vacation and almost found my character dead. Well, check it and e-mail me if you still want to post anything and if anything conflicts with what you have. Damn, I screwed up. Well, MY POST ABOVE has been deleted; it has been edited (and re-posted as a quote below) to match the situation (transporting away from ship and evacuating). Lets assume my character has been transported too, along with poeple in medibay. Email me if something is wrong with my post. Oh yeah, Foss, and anyone else that was crippled or helping medibay while the SIF collapsed, then you're with us (again, i'll fix it if i'm assuming too much). (RP) (Modified Earlier Post; original has been deleted by me) quote: (Time: Before SIF Failure) 19 May, 3008 Modified LRT-15 Transport SS Vulture Nova's Quarters Klaxons began to blare as Nova was asleep in his quarters. Crap, what is it now.... "SIF Failure on All Decks!" "Deck 1 Hull Failure!" "Deck 2 Breach Detected!" "Deck 3 Integrity Failure: 2 Minutes!" What the hell? Great. I fall asleep for a bit and then something else comes along. S!@$, 18:10; I was supposed to be back to my post at 17:15. I wonder what kind of reprimand I'll get. That is, if I live long enough to get one. Heh, what a day. Nova suited up and was ready to go. He hit his commlink and contacted the bridge. "Condit . . . AS. All ha . . . abandon sh . . . rep . . . ndon ship. Th . . . is not . . . ill. . . .S. All han . . . , abandon . . ." What the hell??? Better check on Foss and the Medibay--I've got a few commrades still alive there--I have a seriously bad feeling about this. I hope I'm still gettin' paid. Medibay was probably the only room with oxygen and pressure, as it was the only room with a supply of it's own, and was located on the interior of the ship, instead of closer to the hull. "30 seconds until deck 3 total failure! 26, 25, 24, 23, 22," As the computer system intercomm counted down to absolute death, Foss was on the Commlink, trying to get someone to realize there were still people in Medibay. "This is Medibay! We have 6 people in here; repeat, 6 personnel! Hello, anyone read?" "F---, ..(static).., -ransporters ..(static)... Contact w--- oth-- sh-p ...(static)... O--r." Wonders never cease. The entire mission has been screwed, in my opinion. I just hope we can continue at half strength with whatever we have left. "So was that a good thing, or a bad thing?" Foss just stood there, thinking. "Okay, I shouldn't have asked. I heard there were like 1 or 2 ships with us, but I hope I heard right.... They said something about transporters; could they be helping us?" "........ This better be good. Damn........." "10, 9, 8, 7, 6," "Well, now we find out." Don't really want to meet my maker yet.... "Four" Suddenly a strange feeling caught Foss and Nova, as they started to panic. "Thrrrrrrrreeeeeeee..........." A hole appeared out in the corridor, and the door was getting sucked open by the vacuum of space. Explosions began to flare in the room, and then everything turned pale white.... ------- A bright light blinded Nova, and he froze, as the strange sensation took over his body in an instant. Dead. Yee haw. Wow, that wasn't so bad. Hmm.. Am I in heaven? Seconds later, he awoke, to find that he was still alive. He was standing on a deck of another Galcom ship. He could tell by the coloring and the markings on the empty cargo pods laying around. 19th May, 3008 GCV-McKendrick Cargo Bay "Whoa, that was one hell of a rush. I've never been transported before. Can we do it again?" Commander Neena Polovoski, of the McKendrick was standing in front of the group, speaking to Commander Blades. They kissed and embraced for a few seconds, while Akuma turned away. Heh, poor Akuma. Blades knows she likes him. The bastard. At least I wouldn't go playing around while someone who liked me was watching. Alive... Nova thought to himself. Foss obviously has been through transporters before, and was already checking on the rest of the injured who were actually saved. Wow. We used all this time to save those people, and now most of them died anyway. Whoa, I don't feel so good now. Nova ran off to a trash processor and started puking. Damn transporters. Ugghh..... He left for the McKendrick's Medibay for something, while Cmdr. Polovoski, and Cmdr. Blades spoke more of what to do with the rest of the mission. (/RP) Once again, remember that this is only my 6th RPG post, and I'm a newbie (check my registration date below). Come on people, tell me how I'm doing and e-mail me if something screws with anyone elses write-ps. [ 04-19-2001: Message edited by: Cmdr Nova ] -
Yes, they are in the demo, but remember; they aren't the Instant Action and Career Play are different. Instant Action cannot be saved, and will put you in a mission instantly. Career mode is where you run in Free Play (like in BC3k), where you just do whatever you want, but attack all enemies and such, or you can start a Campaign. Career mode can be saved, and you actually put your name, age, and other info in the game. Finally remember that the universe in the demo isn't the universe in the galaxy map (check your start menu folder). The one in the map is the one in the final game. Hmmm. SC, I've been thinking about how you can't save the IA missions. I think you should disable "Save Game" inside the ingame menu for IA. Either that, or just make the cancel button of the Save Game screen go back to ingame instead of the main menu. I know this is easier said than done, but I think it would be a lot better when the game goes gold. ------------------ Commander Alec Nova (Terran/Mercenary) UCV Dark Outlaw (Modified SpaceStar Class Ship) -Independent Mercenary/Assasin for hire. Don't worry. I've got it. I know how to get backgrounds and I already have shots of the Megaron done; top-right, bottom-left, front-center, back, a shot of it going into hyperspace, and a shot of it going out of cloak mode. Will send file, via e-mail, with the fighters you ordered, and the shuttle 3 shots. Also, the craft specs file. And, yes, these do look just like in the game (complete with backgrounds), even though it's in bcstudio.
