Into The Fire Act Four - Deliverence
Cmdr Nova replied to Blades's topic in Role Playing Discussions
Yep, no one wants to see that, Blades. Well, you're in the hot seat, sir! -
Alright. Nah, no more is needed. Well, thanks Chavs, for the quick reply, and the great clarifications. Now I can't wait for multiplayer! I'll be busting all the big criminals, and I'll be rich and famous! (Okay, maybe not that far, but maybe in the distant future )

I loved this show, too! Yea, didn't Sci-Fi change their schedule? Now when I try to look for BKN, there's the old show, VOYAGE TO THE BOTTOM OF THE SEA. Never liked it one bit. So that explains why you can't find it on Sci-Fi anymore. Oh well. Does anyone know where to get it in the USA?

And here is what we mean by choosing our assets: We can select our Asset Name, but cannot select our Asset Type. For example, my ship is named the White Eagle, but I want it to be a Space Star Super Cruiser, but I cannot add the Asset Type, by myself. The above also applies to Launch Bases and Mission Zones, as well, in the Fleet DB.

quote:The registered fleets are by invitation only as well as the 3000AD controlled, Secure Fleet Access servers (64 players). Therefore, we keep a tight control over who plays on our servers. These servers are quite different from public servers (16 players), setup by other players. For this reason, if you join a fleet and it is determined that you are not a player willing to play by the rules, you will get ejected from the fleet and the server. The first line says "The registered fleets are by invitation only as well as the 3000AD controlled, Secure Fleet Access servers". Does that mean that we can only get in from invitation? By who? Our "Fleet Leader"? Something I wanted to bring up. Also, regarding O'Hara, he hasn't responded to emails. I just guess he was an admin who just happened to change his Fleet DB Profile to say "Fleet Leader". To see the page regarding that, Click Here. Check the part where it says "Group: Police". It says "(fleet leader)" right after the word police.

Into The Fire Act Four - Deliverence
Cmdr Nova replied to Blades's topic in Role Playing Discussions
Yay! Well, I've been sorta confused since we strayed off course. Well, all eyes are on you Blades. -
Well, hi there. I see you've already decided to be an Indie (nice choice, IMO). And Cypher's a cool name too. Everyone meet Commander Cypher; I'm his RL cousin and put him up to this. Uh, I'm not sure how to write you in to Into The Fire. Maybe someone else can help you with that. Or maybe you can join The Independent Way. Shingen, is there room for him there? Well, I've been thinking, and after the shift from merc to police, I still have to write a side story to make for that happening. I'll write it after Into The Fire, and I already know what I'll say. I can add you in there, if you want (but who knows how long ITF will take; considering the suspense, and thick plot). Well, welcome to the war. (As everyone else says to all newbies. )

So, that's the history of the UCV designation. Uh, the quote from SC says this: quote:That is my ruling. So, next time you post, you should be using UCV-DARK RIFT (Raider) in your sig. You can change the caste to anything you like (other than GALCOM, Earthcom, Military, Insurgent, Diplomat, Police) What did he mean other than GALCOM, Earthcom, Military, Insurgent, Diplomat, Police? Aren't the Diplomats and Police caste characters UCV also? I know this is all outdated, but I can't find the originating thread, so I can't prove any of my assumptions. Some clarification would help. Also, I especially need help getting in contact w/O'Hara. It seems like me and Spuzzum are the only active cops here. The search for our leader begins.......
-
I'm trying to get some stuff written up for any newbies thinking about becoming UCV commanders here. I want the UCV sector to have some sort of Foundation that makes us at least look like a good group. The fleets are all organized, and we need to be also. There really wasn't much written in any game documentation, so I searched the Forums...... Here's what I came up with. There aren't many timestamps on the quotes, and I can't find the original messages, but here goes.... Excerpt from: Fleet Related Discussions -> UCV governing rules Posted: 03-02-2000 06:58 by: SpcFX This is a snip of the thread that started the UCV designation quote:At any rate, in light of these developments, you are now stripped of your GALCOM designation. Please remove the GCV tag from your sig. Since we don't know where you are, I guess you can keep the ship but you are neither GCV nor ECV or even ICV designation. You should use the UCV (Unregistered Command Vessel) tag from now on. That is my ruling. So, next time you post, you should be using UCV-DARK RIFT (Raider) in your sig. You can change the caste to anything you like (other than GALCOM, Earthcom, Military, Insurgent, Diplomat, Police) I only used Raider as an example. There is a new Mercenary caste in BC:3020AD anyway, so, you can use that now if you like. Yes, I just made that whole UCV thing up as I was typing it and have updated the BC:3020AD manuscript accordingly. Anyone not belonging to a fleet, can use this and select any caste they like. You will be able to do the same thing in multiplayer anyway. Supreme Commander D. Smart GCV-Warmonger GALCOM First Fleet ------ And until BC:3020AD is released, there won't be any new fleets or race/castes created. Any commander not belonging to a registered fleet should use the UCV designation until further notice. Once BC:3020AD+mp are out, I will have a dedicated and redesigned fleet page here. The BC3K universe is not a free for all. I will later allow the creation of new fleets but with specific designations, rules etc which augment what DeSylva already has. So, if MechWarrior wants to create a Raider Fleet (he won't be allowed to), he will have to demonstrate leadership etc. In fact, now that I think about it, for new official fleets, I will list them all, including the allowed race/caste affiliations, have people enroll and then pick a leader based on some criteria that I will cook up in my sleep. All the fleet leaders here, did not spring up over night. They are dedicated vets who know the game and its universe inside out. They are leaders. It would be insulting to have some upstart just spring up overnight and form a fleet. All the fleet leaders here are official testers and therefore, I will work with them in constructing a criteria for creating new fleets, assigning stations, wings etc, when the time comes. For now, DeSylva, Spcfx, Akira, Tac etc, why don't you guys send me a proposal for the new fleets with a diverse selection of race/caste affiliations? ---- Also, the term clan, is hereby outlawed in this universe. Fleets, Squadrons and Wings, are the norm and this is the structure that should be used. (End Excerpt) Okay. Now I'm wondering hwo the "fleet" system compares to a caste like the Police or even Mercenaries. There IS supposedly a rank of "Fleet Leader" in the Fleet DB (Commander O'Hara, Police Caste; he's also an admin). I'm also wondering how the Secure Fleet Access servers will work (if the SFA's are still go) with UCV's. I remember reading the Fleet FAQ, and it saying this: quote:The registered fleets are by invitation only as well as the 3000AD controlled, Secure Fleet Access servers (64 players). Therefore, we keep a tight control over who plays on our servers. These servers are quite different from public servers (16 players), setup by other players. For this reason, if you join a fleet and it is determined that you are not a player willing to play by the rules, you will get ejected from the fleet and the server. Whatever career, asset, launch base or mission zone that you are given on an SFA server or via the Fleet Database, are those that you should always use, unless otherwise changed by your leader. Example, you could be playing as a Terran Military Commander, in charge of a Battlecruiser, running Intel in a mission zone deep in enemy territory. If you are notified that the game in progress uses SFA rules (eg your in-game selection should match your Fleet Database settings), then you must adhere to these rules and select those options when entering the game. So, if you decide that you're being beaten up too much on the front lines, you could request a transfer while on the SFA server or offline via email to your leaders, who will then make the decision. By the same token, you can't pick an elite force marine career, and then all of a sudden, decide that you want to be a carrier commander. In multiplayer, each side a set amount of resources. So, if a fleet only has 4 carriers, it is up to the leaders to give those advanced assets to the most deserving commanders, during the course of a career. Unlike public servers, SFA servers are persistent. This means that the server is on 24-7 and if you log off, your stats are saved on the server and restored when you log back on. This prevents you from changing profiles in midstream, without authorization. Also, FSA stats are fed directly into the Fleet Database server, so that you can keep track of your career. The number of times your character is killed on the server, also determines your ranking and scores. Since BCM is not expected to be released with multiplayer, I'm wondering if the information is still good. I'm also curious as to how a UCV would actually get in, because we would need a "Fleet Commander" to select our assets, and such. If O'Hara truly is the ranking character here for us UCV's, he should show up soon. I'm not sure what his Fourm Username actually is, either. If anything is to happen here, we need an active member to lead us. Does anyone know how to contact O'Hara? Or even at least tell if he's still active or not? I haven't had time to contact him via ICQ (his number is on his profile page). I'll attempt communication soon. [ 08-02-2001: Message edited by: Cmdr Nova ]

On to the next order of business. Does anyone know who is Commander O'Hara? He's supposed to be the Admin of the UCV sector of the Fleet DB. Here is the current status of the police caste as of timestamp (above): quote:Police Alliance: Undesignated Comm: [email protected] View Group Bulletin 6 Commanders in this Group: Commander O'hara (Admin) Commander Jason-Aaron Colson Commander HUNTER Commander Dukhat Commander Alec Nova Commander Batchelor Does anyone know how to get in contact with O'Hara? According to his profile, he's also the Police group "fleet leader". Wow, and we decided on a logo without him. Also, I know fleet leaders chose your launch bases and asset types, but what about the group bulletin? What does it involve? I've looked at some of the fleets and I really want one up for us police guys. I really want my asset type and launch base picked my way, but I seriously want it done legit. Can anyone help find O'Hara? And if he's out of contact, what do we do? "I'm setting foot on new ground for UCV's everywhere....." And Spuzzum, I hear your a big fan of Final Fantasy. That makes two of us. Lets get this job done. I want all the newbies for BCM to see that fleets don't always have all the fun. We'll get our share soon! [ 07-18-2001: Message edited by: Cmdr Nova ]

Zix, it's not your controller. I noticed it (Episode 2 Demo) quite soon, and had to read up on it (though I couldn't find the joystick controls for it). E2 has a remapped keyboard and joystick system. I'm not sure about the joystick command for left/right controls, but I have found in the meantime the keyboard commands (which I have been currently using for E2). Insert Key - Turn Left Delete Key - Turn Right Uh, in E1, you had to hold button 2 on your Controller to roll, but now it doesn't do anything (have I missed some sort of text on this?). Smooth sailing, Zix. --- Something to try in E2 IA1: Try landing your BC on a Naval Carrier! I was a fool to even envision it, let alone attempt it. Heheh. Then again, I did successfully land on that Insurgent one, while cloaked! And my PTA was attacking the smaller boats, as well! Then, my Iridium ran out.......... Well, as long as everything is all in good nature and good humor, it's okay. Let's get back to the actual discussion. I would love that subscription service, wouldn't you? It's like being in the beta, without having to report any bugs and glitches. But, the downsides (written in the topic by SC), are really hard to weigh out from the good stuff. Hmmm.... Dilemma. I bet that's why SC made that topic anyway. He didn't seem to have any bias either way this morning. Well, a new day, a new whatever.
-
Sorry. Well, okay. To further my point though, see this topic as well: Derek is THE MAN. Now that topic is pretty much the same as this one. Oh well, I guess I'm just tired.... Anyhoo, I'm glad BC3k is freeware now, because just as Baloogan said, everyone else can have that same feeling, inside. And, I'll repeat, I'm sorry for being sorta rude, cuz it's like 12:30 here at my place. Well, peace out, folks.

This discussion was to have taken place here, at SC's order: BCM Subscription Model quote:Posted by Supreme Commander: When you read today's dev update if you have any thoughts, post them here. Well, I'm happy to see that BC3K is freeware now. I only got to play the demo. At least this keeps me alive until BCM is out! [ 07-18-2001: Message edited by: Cmdr Nova ]

BCM Episode 2 demo - What I think

The demo missions are Instant Action missions, which do not support game saving. Only the campaign modes will support game saves. Check the README FILE (the latest one is online Here and is constantly updated). It clearly states that (and I quote), "Note that the demos do not support saving of games." In Demo Episode 1, SC forgot to disable the save game button in Instant Action, which has been corrected in Episode 2. I asked the same question back a few months ago. I was also the one who noticed that he forgot to take out the save game button from IA. http://www.3000ad.com/demo/bcmdemo.html Its around halfway down the page. Check for "03-31-2001 13:01" timestamp.

Okay, I got it. BTW, this is an immensly wonderful game! I couldn't help but get caught up with all the new different things you could do in BCM! I can't wait for it to go gold!

Saw it last night. Here's my take: First off, I'm starting with the plot. It was great, considering I'm used to the world of Final Fantasy, and am used to Japanese games and stories. Then again, there were the similarities with many things. Most of them were listed above, but I'll add some in. Spoilers may be ahead. First, the big dome cities reminded me of "Big O". Even though I hated that series, I still know my anime when I see it. Second, there were the several similarities to Final Fantasy 7 in the movie. First thing I noticed: the "bad guy" wanting to fire his super high tech, huge cannon, at the enemy (FF7-Hojo, Diamond Weapon; FF:TSW-General, Phantom Hive). The other thing I noticed, was that the "Spirit of Gaia" had so many similarities to lifestream, both in looks, and storyline. I guess its just because of it's home in Japanese folklore. Then there was Dr. Sid. Of course most of you know that there has been a Cid/Sid in every Final Fantasy Game since FF2 (US). Now, to the graphics. It was wonderful! I could almost swear it was real. Go see it for yourself. In conclusion, it's a great movie for Final Fantasy fans, and for Japanese gaming fans, too. 9.5/10 Two Thumbs Up [ 07-14-2001: Message edited by: Cmdr Nova ]

Well, ATI fixed it, in their beta driver release. Dated June 27, 2001. Uhh, when "swimming", I seem to walk on some sort of transparent layer above the ground....... Also, I crashed into the water, because it was completely transparent in some areas (on FarStar). I can seet the water on other parts, though.. I was going in for a landing on a beach, but it ended up to be water. When I jumped ship, the water was really deep, so it wasn't that it was shallow..... [ 07-14-2001: Message edited by: Cmdr Nova ]

Nice one, Spuzzum...... Although I'd personally reconsider (after all, with GALCOM on our backs).
-
Uhh, I'm still not sure..... Blades? Gallion? Somebody? Any old timers around with any clue at all?
-
Then again, it was only me and Spuzzum who got the Police logo set up. A guild won't be any different. For now at least 2 should be here, and then you could use propaganda to get newbies into joining your guild/corporation. Keep up the good work.
-
For us indies, since there isn't really anyone to ask directly, i don't really know. Well, it could take a while. Mine took 2 wks. I think it's because when you register and use your forum username (like your supposed to), they check it and your registration info. Hang in there, and welcome to the Indies....

Harlocke, check the Readme & FAQ. 128 is good. You should make the VM file dynamic like SC said, or make its set file bigger, like 512mb. The latter will give better performance, but only if you have the room.
