Fleet Recruitment Reorganization Proposal
Blades replied to aramike's topic in General Multiplayer Fleet Discussions
*Ahem* Excuse me? Are you kidding? This has to rate as one of the worst ideas in the history of bad ideas. Ok, maybe thats a little harsh but here are my reasons all the same. While it may be a good idea to pool commanders from some fleets to help even things out, there is no way in hell I would ever agree to such a thing with my own organisation. Primary reasons being that I've spent the better part of two years building this fleet up to what it is and would be pissed beyond recognition if I had my people dispersed to fill the gaps in other fleets. That takes away all of the accomplishments of my fleet and the people who have served under me for all this time. It would be like punishing someone for being successful. That is dangerous if you ask me. I admit, If I were in the same position as some (if not all) of the other fleet commanders, I would probably welcome an influx from other sources. However, im not in that position because I have a healthy number of commanders, and do not want to divide them up and have them drafted to other fleets. I am against this 100%. A more sensible solution is to improve the recruitment efforts of the other fleets. This is somthing we at Orion are already trying to do, and have been doing with other ventures recently. (To those in the know, does J.O.C ring any bells?!?) Anyway, panic attack over for the time being. I eagerly anticipate strongly worded responses in this thread. -
All but a small handful of those listed are active. Those that have reported in so far Im in contact with almost every day. There are some who for private reasons (Which I am aware of) only sound in every couple of weeks or so. However, there are a couple in particular who are going to be culled by close of business tuesday night. As a matter of interest, I purge inactive members from the database on a fairly regular basis. If I hadnt been doing this, our members would be on par with Primes current, but the actual active list would be far lower.
-
16? Dear god, I never realised it was that bad. Hmm, thats en eye opener. This makes Orion the biggest and most active single fleet in the game universe. Phew.

I always found a running word battle with the bunnies gets the message accross. Also, people like to see a working chain of command and disciplined, orderly dialogue between fleet members. Promoting the ISS community would be a good way to gather people around you. Orions success is due to the community all my fleet members share. We do most of our talking and policy making back on HQ's forums. Having neat little things like domain names is also good for generating interest. A little bit of money spent can do you the world of good. Finally, RP interaction has always been a valuable recruiting tool. I would recomend more active RP from ISS members. Worked for me.

My dads bigger than your dad.

I wouldnt try it if I were you.

Hrum. Not too sure how I should respond to this. Ok, hows this ... ? It wasnt so much of a complaint, more of a request to you for some more information on what you think us FC types should be doing to be considered non-useless. Dont get me wrong, if ANY fleet leaders is shirking their responsinilities in a manner defined by you, then I have no problems with them being replaced. All I want to know, for my own peace of mind as well as everybody elses is what we have to do to keep our positions. I'd prefer to know so theres no argument if/when such a dismissal occures. If everyone knows what they are meant to do there is no excuse for slacking. As FC's, we have a responsibility to lead by example. If we know what those explicit responsibilities are, then we can do a better job of leading by that example. If we dont measure up to it, then we deserve to be fired. Just an idea, but if somthing was drafted up for guys like us and we were given some time to get up to snuff, maybe everything would fall into place once again. Anyway, I'd go get some sleep. We'll be here when you get back.

Boss, just to clarify once and for all, what are your specific concerns with the existing fleets, the commanders who run them, the policies/structures defined by those commanders etc. I'm asking because I do not consider myself to be useless in any way, shape or form. Considering the reaction of several of my members, neither do they. What I want to know from you is what is expected of us. Since we can only live up to the responsibilities you inform us of (Fleet websites, roster of active personnel, uniform signatures and a couple of others) we have had to rely on our own inititive and do things (Create and manage wings, assignments, delegation of responsibilities etc) without really knowing if any of what we do is approved of or appreciated. For my own part, I have worked long and hard with some of the most active and dedicated commanders on this forum to make my small piece of the game into somthing I and my commrades can be proud of. With the help of people like Greg Miller, James Hamblin, Epsilon 5, Nova and a whole host of others I could spend the next ten minutes detailing we have achieved at least that much. But end of the day all are efforts are for nought if they dont fall in line with your vision. So I ask, what is your vision for the fleets? Are we all to be organised in the same uniform manner? Are we to adhere to a strict structure layed out by you? Tell us - please - if we have got it all horribly wrong. I cant speak for all the fleet and wing leaders, but I strongly believe that each of us has in their own way contributed to the betterment of the franchise. We may not have done it in the right way, we may have got it totally wrong in fact, but at the very least most of us have tried to bring your vision to life in ways that no single person could do. We're a community divided by RP rivalries but bonded by a love of this product. As a community, we need to know how we each fill our role within it. As fleet leaders, we need to know the rules and regulations that responsibility binds us to. We're not telepathic. We cant always see things in the same way you can. We dont all have the same oppurtunities to contribute as much as some of the more vocal members do. If any of us have failed in one way or another, then we need to know what those failures were and what is really expected of us. We want to do good - really - but we dont want to be punished for being ignorant of your ideals. That would be unfair, and those of us who have been here since pretty much day one, working in our own ways to gather the unwashed masses, help develope a close-knit community of passionate niche gamers, prepare ourselves for the mayhem of MP etc would be crushed by such an action. Anyway, thats my point of view. This is Mr. Stacy Brain (aka Fleet Commander Karl Blades Savage) signing out ...

Klingons as seen in ST:TMP and onwards are Imperial Klingons, as in the true Klingon race. During the period prior to Star Trek TOS the Klingons experimented with inter racial breeding, and came up with Human/Klingon fusions. They also did the same with Romulans. As indicated before, the fusions served on the boarders of other empires while the Imperials kept to themselves deep in their own territory. Roughly at the same sort of time, the Klingons extended their borders away from the federation and Rommulan empires to do all manner of evil conquest like things. Eventually, they bumped into a species that would be akin to the Borg in TNG. The Klingons fought a long war with these beings (Later refered to as Demons by the Klingons - I forget the racial name) and as a result of the drain on their resources, steered away from conflict with the Federation and made numerous technological exchanges treaties with the Rommulans. After this period, they stopped their experimentation with fusions and Imperial's started appearing all over the place again. Anyway, thats from the original (And the best) ST:RPG from FASA and is based upon Paramount history drafts. I thank you ...

Did I hear the word defecting? You dont wanna do that. Stick by your fleet or transfer out to another GalCom one if you like, but dont go the Insurgent Way. All the same, I'll take your body measurements now for the casket ... you know, just in case.

I hear Keanu Reeves auditioned for the role but wasnt accepted because his acting was too wooden. ... tumbleweed blows accross the forum ... [ 09-29-2001: Message edited by: Blades ]

Get a room ladies.

No Tac. Oh no no no no no.

As I said, sounds like Wraith to me. Although ... since you're a UK commander, Orion needs a few of those to fill the ranks within the Tsunami Battle Group ...
-
You forgot your forum password? Thats not good enough, cadet. I'll assign a temp password of forgetmenot so make sure you go into your profile and change it the minute you get in. Oh, and while Im at it, sort out that signature of yours. It's still wrong.

Whatever the first season looks like, if it follows standard Trek tradition, it will improve. I cant wait to hear first impressions from you guys. I still gotta wait another month before we get it on Sky.
-
You ask me, sounds like he'd be perfect for Wraith Fighter Command. WFC is a good unit. OFC is modeled after it's excellent example but judging by your other prefered method of participating, you'd probably fit in better with Wraith than Orion. Orion is about overkill. We're the big guns of GalCOm, and we have a bulldozer approach to combat rather than stealth and finesse. Of course, we'd love to have you, but judging by first impressions, you look like you'd fit in well in Wraith. All the same, I'll check the fleet database ... Jason, unless Im mistaken, your last post casts you as an 18 year old commander who had served on your command ship for, ah, 7 years. This would make you 11 years of age when you first took command. Now, unless you are related to Wesley Crusher, Im thinking theres somthing not quite right there. Also, the average commander doesnt get command of a capitol ship until they are in their mid thirties. I think you need to rethink a couple of things here, cos theres no way in hell any military organisation is going to give command of a multibillion galcred vessel to someone who probably isnt even shaving yet, let alone to someone who's still wears teddy bear PJ's.

Ok hindot, what the hell is this snog you keep refering to? Where I come from, to snog is to kiss. Im seriously hoping that you are not considering snogging our enemies into submission. If this is the case, I'd suggest two things. First, PTA and IOD fire are far more effective than moistened lips and tongue action. Second, get yourself some tic-tacs buddy.

Into The Fire Act Five - Operation Golgotha
Blades replied to Blades's topic in Role Playing Discussions
[RP] Operation Golgotha T + 3 minutes 25seconds Earth, Mission Zone 13 Beam in point. The discussion with Sgt. Diamond was brief, and to the point. The former marine updated the Orion Fleet Commander with the current state of play, then strode aside to check some of the equipment Savage had brought down with them. While this was going on, Savage summoned Chavik, Scholar and the merc Nova to his side. “Diamond has brought me up to date on a few things. For starters, the efforts he has made up here to mask our transporter signals may or may not have been 100% successful. The base and surface barracks is unaware of our presence, but there have been roving patrols seen in the area that may have picked us up. Diamond had a dampening field set up in the hills above our position, and activated it just prior to beam in. Unless the patrols were monitoring this area specifically for EW emissions, the chances are we are undetected. However, that is by no means certain. Diamond will lead us through the canyons towards our objective, and take a short cut through an old mine to within 500 metres of the surface barracks. While we’re inside the mine, external sensors wont be able to track us. Apparantly, there were security sensors within the mine itself, but he’s seen fit to reconfigure them temporarily so we can pass by unmolested. Bottom line, so far so good.” “How long will it take us to get to the mine?” asked Chavik. Savage checked his datapad. “According to this terrain data, so long as we don’t wrong foot it anywhere, we should make the mine in just under an hour. Once inside, it’s going to be quite slow going. It’s been abandoned for hundreds of years, and is therefore quite dangerous to traverse. The sensor net within is archaic but is tied into the barracks security station. Although I have full confidence in Diamonds abilities to fool the net, I don’t want us to do anything that’s going to press our luck.” This time it was Nova who presented the Fleet Commander with a question. “You said there were roving patrols out there. Whats their makeup?” Savage took a moment to recall what Diamond had told him, then relayed it to the small group. “There are at least three teams out on patrol. Two to a team in a small offroad patrol vehicle. Their patrol patten seems to be random, and within these canyons we cant get accurate sensor data as to their location. In reality, that’s a good thing, since if we cant see them, they cant see us. While we’re moving on, we’ll have to rely on old fashioned methods of tracking them down, something I want Chav and his team to head up.” Chavik grunted. “You want us on point?” Savage smirked. “I cant think of anyone better. Besides, if it comes to it, you can fire up those suits of yours and get in close – just like you’re going to do at the barracks.” Chavik frowned. “I was hoping not to use the suits too much until we were at the barracks itself. If we have to use them before we get there, we’re running the risk of extreme exposure.” Savage shrugged. “I know, it sucks, but better that than expose the mission. If they get advanced warning of our approach, we’re dead.” Scholar chuckled. “Lets not do that, ok?” Savage nodded. “Next point, and perhaps the break we’ve been looking for.” Everyone looked up at the Fleet Commander. “The security centre within Golgotha is being retrofitted with additional sentry weapons systems, and a good portion of their automated defense grid is down while engineering crews work on it. The upside is that we wont get quite as hammered as I was expecting by their autoguns, the downside is, theres more security there to get in the way.” “No biggie.” Remarked Nova. “Just means theres more human falability down there. I’d rather take on a platoon of grunts than a fully operational sentry platform anyday.” “There is a down side to this, though.” Interrupted Savage. “Apparantly, theres a full company stationed in a temporary barracks at a supply room just down from the south tunnel into the main complex. This means we have to close those blast doors really quickly if we’re gonna have any chance of securing security and the landing platform. We’re going to have to do this fast.” Chavik shook his head. “A full company? Good god, we cant repel those numbers.” Savage nodded. “Not if we don’t get those blast doors down and secured immediately. IF we secure that exit, we can probably hold up there long enough for your team to beam in and extract the target. But only IF we get those doors down in time.” Schloar frowned. “It’s going to be tight. No margin for error.” “None whatsoever.” A moment passed with the four men in silence. The silence was broken only when Diamond returned from the equipment check he was making and entered the circle. “I take it you’ve given them the good news?” said Diamond. Savage regarded his old friend. “Well, I’ve given them the news. Good or not remains to be seen.” Diamond smirked. “I wouldn’t worry too much about it. We either do it, or we don’t. Our last chance to abort is now, and I don’t think we’re gonna do that.” Chavik looked up at the fleet commander, as if daring him to change his mind. Savage returned the look, and although saying nothing, communicated his intention to press on with his eyes. “The time for talk is over. You know what we’re facing, and you know we’re on a tight schedule. Saddle up people, we move out in two.” With that, Savage left the circle and strode towards the main concentration of men. Moments later, with the others returning to their respective positions, the troupe moved out. The lonely walk to Golgotha had begun. [/RP] -

Heh, a lot of carrots being dangled here. You wont get a unit, or Battle Group Command in Orion, but you will get to serve with the best. Better yet, you get to be considered the best. Even better still, do well enough, remain active and contribute to the betterment of the fleet, and that golden carrot the others are dangling at you might be within your grasp. Once you earn it.

Orion. You know why.

Interview with the Insurgent
Blades replied to Blades's topic in General Multiplayer Fleet Discussions
Heh, glad you liked it chief. I'm planning on doing several more over the next few weeks, and if you're up to one yourself, you know I'd be more than happy to oblige. -
Avon from Blakes 7. Now he was a chap. Could never work out if he was a goodie or a baddie. The ultimate sci-fi anti hero. Good choice that man. Pity him n the rest of the crew got wiped out by Servilan the nasty at the end of it all - but hey ho. My own personal favorite character in the world? Hmm, difficult to say. There are many, from various cinematic incarnations, from various genres. However, if you really want to know who is the ultimate character of all time - It's Ash from the Evil Dead series. Hail to the king, baby.
