See, I knew I had to have a disk with that file on it. I've put the file on my webspace. bc3ktips.txt It's quite old (01-19-99) so the entries may be affected by patches or added features. You'll have to check it with the Version Control File downloadable in the downloads section. I hope this helps for you. ------------------ Cmdr. Gameplay FAQ? There should be something like that. It's more like a list of tips. Alot. But you're right. I can't find it either anymore. Strange. Maybe the others have any idea. I remember some kind of bc3ktips.txt or .html file. Anybody? ------------------ Cmdr. Rico Jansen GCV de Ruyter, Genesis (Moon) 16 Squadron Leader - Prime Fleet, Gamma Wing, 1st Squadron

Well Guardian, Spit that question out then. It's still your topic about trading. Don't mind the brass yelling at eat other. ehm, enough to make you weep that is, you should allways pay attention to what the elders say. Like Rattler said. I think the others lost track of themselves and the subject a bit. Anyway, if there's any question about trading or that link Wold provided (as I made that topic), let's hear it. ------------------ Cmdr. quote:Assign the 2 female pilots to the same IC. Ehm, if my ears and eyes told me correctly, there are suppost to be 3 female pilots. Lace, Nightwing, and Starfire. I tried testing around a bit with putting each of the six combinations in an IC without missiles to test real dogfighting skill. The lass' had to put up with holding off 4 S-24 fighters comming from pixan tugging their skirts. Sofar I noticed that my Lace/Nightwing seems not to live upto the PMS expectations. Where as the other 4 suggest longer endurance. Appearently my Starfire tells the other girls how to fight. Especially when she's in the back seat (CP). I don't know if this is the same for everybody as I noticed DF and BF skills tend to change with different profiles. But I keep seeing recurrent sets of them. They do not seem to be chosen totally at random. For the record: AI DF BA Nightwing 16 12 9 Lace 15 15 15 Starfire 21 11 9 Haven't tested this with other profiles so I'm not done yet. I think I'm going to create a little more controlled experiment with GBS. To turn off the autogen-thing, and see how the girls deal with one opponent at a time. Have to go now. Starstations being warped away?
Rico Jansen replied to Epsilon 5's topic in General Multiplayer Fleet Discussions
Never mind this. I was confused as to why this question from you. I didnt know Orion was moved for BCM purposes. Oh well. Heres the thread that discusses (well, more like it just says so) the movement of the stations. thread Rico [This message has been edited by Rico Jansen (edited 01-15-2001).] -
Either something has gone wrong at Starpath during clonning of the Supreme Commander. Or the Supreme Commander goes beyond the call of duty during afterhours. He is wearing a different 'hat' when he is suppost to. Sometime last week I was fooling around playing with ACM TOD2. M4/5 just started, and Commlink says I need to pick up the Supreme Commander from Orion. To give me FCC on the upcomming mission. Ok, so I head over and receive the SC aboard. We shake hands, chat up with eachother and all that other male bonding stuff, as we go on our way to Sygan to the task at hand. As we proceed on our journey I ask him if I can make use of his FCC capability now to assemble the fleet in a combatready formation before we arrive. Guess what? He won't. Or he can't. I don't see why not. Al the neccesary officers are on station (actually all of them, and not yet sleeping on the job), I've seen him do it before on my BC (eventough that was the FCC freeflight mod, and so a different profile), and above all, I really need him to now. Sygan get's to be a beehive on fire in this mission. Now, don't worry. It's not a futile bugreport, or newby question in the wrong forum. I actually know what's wrong , or actually what's different. This is just something I never heard surfacing here on the board. So I'd like to tell to those that script what I found. Cheating and peeking in the mission script (I knew I didn't do anything wrong myself) I noticed nothing strange at first looking at the section that brings the SC onboard. (Link to scripts) code: .orionhq events 204 !detect bc clear_guest 101,TO,"Dr Myan Rolne is no longer on board" clear_guest 102,TO,"CMDR Karynia is no longer on board" create_guest 204,"SCMDR Karl Reines",11,CMO,"Karl Reines is on board commander!" endevents Is is to do with "204"? No, that's not persona-specific. It's just an assigned numeric ID for the man. "SCMDR Karl Reines"? Nahh, that's Karl alright. ...Right? "11"? Can't be, that's the shiplocation he ends up at. And the rest, well, that's the commlink message when he's beamed over or something. Then it hit to me. I've never seen "SCMDR Karl Reines" before as my guest listed. When I had FCC. So I checked up on those script too. code: create_guest 1,"Karl Reines",11,CMO,"Karl Reines is on board commander!" See what I see? Becarefull which name you script in. The one with rank can't command, and the one without bosses around. Or let's you anyway. I'd say the names should have been the other way around. But I'm not the one holding the code. And I'm already heading for the airlock BTW. I've made a stuppid little script to proof and show the difference. Only the comms messages are not in order. But you must get the message. guesttest.zip Rico

Yeah, I did. But if it is a bug, it's too late for a patch. This girl has been put to rest and the SC has moved on to coding BCM. Anyway, you can get into Earth (and Mars). Once you are near it. Make sure Tacscan is in GND mode. The version-control-file says it should be available by cycling through the targets apearing in the CVD. But I have never found Earth in there. What I did was press "j", and let the moving map show up. Cycle through the targets again and one of them should be Earth. (Or Mars) Don't ask me why, but it is. ... for me anyway. ------------------ Cmdr. Oh dear, I think our SC suffers from some kind of a winter depression. Don't worry SC. We all love ya!! You know that, don't you. Hey Gallion, what's with "TTFN". I see it with you all the time but I haven't got a clue what it should mean. It was time I started asking. ------------------ Cmdr. Rico Jansen GCV de Ruyter, Genesis (Moon) 16 Squadron Leader - Prime Fleet, Gamma Wing, 1st Squadron

Gallion? You meant these? I knew I had them somewhere on my harddrive. quote: Author: Daniel G. Londo├▒o ([email protected] ICQ 6955087) Subject: The Murphy's Laws of BC3K Lets face it, Murphy's Laws are the only constant in the universe! Here are some for Battlecruiser 3000AD: The chance of a crash is directly proportional to the amount of time since your last save game. The chance of a crash is directly proportional to your achievments in the game. The chance of a crash is inversely proportional to the amount of time you spent reading the docs. The amount of experienced Commanders is inversely proportional to the amount of bodies floating outside the airlocks. Any or all of the above combined. IC Pilots never take a break. Marines are the ultimate weapon: They're cheap! Shuttle crews are near-sighted. Anything that can go wrong will go wrong, it does'nt matter if you read the docs. There is never time to do it right, but there is always time to do it again. If everything seems to be going well, you obviously have no idea what the hell is going on. Murphy was a Commander. If you're feeling good don't worry, you'll get over it. Anything you do can get you killed, including nothing. Professional soldiers are predictable, the universe is full of dangerous amateurs. Every TacOps command that can be misunderstood will be. Military Intelligence is a contradiction. Mines are equal opportunity weapons. Killing for peace is like screwing for virginity. The one item you need is always in short supply. You are not Superman. Marines and IC pilots take note. There is always a way and it usually does'nt work. If the enemy is within range so are YOU! There is no such thing as a perfect plan. If you are short of everything but the enemy, you are in the combat zone. Incoming fire has the right of way. GCV-Murphy never left spacedock. The CIC is always right. The chance of a cargo pod being blown up before you can pick it, is directly proportional to its value. BC AI - Isn't. IC AI - Takes too long. Intruders will board you in two ocassions: When you can't afford to have a system blown up and when you don't want them on board. Intruders are the ultimate crewmembers: They know your ship better than your marines do! GALCOM HQ is a cover-up for a fireworks depot. Tractor beams are the ultimate PTA counterpart. Cloaked BC's usually have their PTA's on. GALCOM HQ communications officers have a speech impediment. Consequently all ACM missions communiques are impossible to understand. Deployed solar reactor panels symbolize the final act of a desperate Commander. The amount of SDF vessels is directly proportional to the amount of gamers competing for a 3dfx card. A Dralthi Pilot can kick the crap out of an IC. Long live the Drakhai! An IC can kick the crap out of a Dralthi Pilot...after several clonings. An X-Wing pilot can kick the crap out of anyone. Murphy was an X-Wing pilot. If the cost of a missile came out of the IC pilot's pocket, GALCOM would be invincible (on the IC's wasting Vagrants on other fighters) The GCV Orion Fleet is full of holy men and women. >And in hoonor of my good friend Rico Jansen Please stop, my friend, you make me blush. But a good idea. Unknown location until you launch from a base/station so you can't make up route lists beforehand, all on your own with just a shuttle with a mining drone, choosing your strategy in mining, cargosweep and trading. Very good. Ehm, another thing we can try. Or atleast the marine contingent of the community will be interested I guess. Markmansship! Shooting contests. Either on static or moving targets. With the sniper rifle or just hand guns. Isn't that called a 'decathlon'. Skying and shooting? How about that? ------------------ Cmdr. Trading, but what?, from where?, and where to?

quote:Also, the navchart.pdf appendix files, explains how tech levels are calculated.Ok, I noticed the numbers 0-5 stand for 0 to 50% extra availability. But unlike inflation, I am not (to my knowledge) able to determine which techlevel aplies to the station from the displayed stock numbers of all the numerous items. Or what the 'standard availability' is for items. Is it traceable from information in tradcom? (without the infopage ofcourse) I forgot (or can't remember where it was described) what influence NPCs or the player had on availablility and inflation. I do remember you (SC) said NPCs didn't trade directly in BC3K. Or they didn't really buy/sell stuff. Anybody know where it was? I suspect it's removed. Searching for "tech level" doesn't show up with anything important. (Except for this thread) Rico p.s. You also got me curious about what the two last (undocumented) colums of the navchart text-file mean. -

I think we can consider this as 'Omega' testing. The code as been scuttled for a long time now. It won't extend the life of our baby anymore. Alfa and Omega, there shall be a time for everything. I only spoke out to make sure nothing of this would have to enter BCM too. I hope the SC can do something with this. Rico [This message has been edited by Rico Jansen (edited 10-08-2000).] -
Good question. I rely alot on my PTA. More as an offensive weapon than defensive. I only use the IOD for a finnishing shot, or when the traget doesn't move and is in my field of view. Anyway, this is what the manual says: code:The PTA system selects targets based on range and threat priority. It creates a list of all targets within range and fires the turrets at the hostile ones it acquires. This means that sometimes it will run out of ÔÇÿslotsÔÇÖ for all the hostile targets and it will appear to ignore hostile targets that are close by. This is normal and is a flaw in the system. In fact, sometimes its slots will consist of non-hostile targets as the friendly fire avoidance code continues to filter targets. In these instances, hostile targets will continue to fire at you until the system frees up a slot and assigns it to a hostile target. The PTA system has 24 slots for target acquisition. I would think missiles have a higher threat priority than crafts/fighters. And I suppose close range gives a higher priority too. But I don't know for sure. Just common sense. Hope that helps ------------------ Cmdr. quote:is there anything i can do to give it more ships and or missles to replace the ones i killed so that it can protect itself from attacks without me baby sitting it. Yeah, wait!. The crafts you may have destroyed during attacking of the station will be rebuild as time passes. Damaged ships that RTB-ed and docked or got towed back in will be repaired and available eventually. The station will have a full complement of ships and missiles again after a certain time. If you have FC&C you can order crafts of nearby stations to protect your weak station. Trading, but what?, from where?, and where to?
Rico Jansen replied to Rico Jansen's topic in General Discussions
Got it exactly reproduced as in above table I posted. Except for the techlevel entry of ISS I first posted. I may have switched it with the class level when I first wrote it down. My error. ISS techlevel was 0 when I checked the v1.-2.09 game install again half an hour ago. Not a dash. Nothing seems to be wrong with techlevels. (Atleast, I wouldn't know how to determine the correct value) I have noticed the following things: Class-levels of the new fleet stations (don't know about Spectre) are not correctly displayed on the info-page of TRADCOM. They are replaced by a dash, "-". Majoris' class-level is not correctly displayed, it shows as "D", while it should be "HT". Majoris' inflation is not 40% as per posted list of SC or navchart.pdf. In the game it starts with 10%. Inflation is not 0% for all stations in Sol (as per list posted by SC), they are 0% (GalcomHQ), 10% (Gazer,Orion,Genesis,Starpath), 20% (ISS). Calculation of inflation seems to be ok everywhere. If you want screen shots of those stations, I got them. Only, I forgot to make them of Wraith. I haven't checked stations outside Sol, except for Wraith and Majoris. Don't have the time yet. School stuff is pretty busy. And the BC3K universe whaaay big!! As for the craftparts Steve discovered. He's right, TRADCOM doesn't agree with the trade appendix on the 3 craftparts. Same values. I mean, like Steve said when he was comparing prices. Convincing? ------------------ Cmdr. Rico Jansen replied to Rico Jansen's topic in General Discussions
Don't worry about the SC, Steve. If he thinks this is a wild goose chase, then that's ok. I only know what I saw (with a new fresh game) on one of my 2 game installs (2 different comps). And you somehow appear to have the same phenomena. I don't mind to go on a 'chase' eventually finding out the problem is something that happend overhere on my comp, and is not due to the code. I'm not saying yet that what I published above is 100% bug. I haven't been able to reproduce it myself yet. So I don't know what it is. It's only funny you seem to have it too. I don't know why others didn't say anything yet. Whether they had the same, or not[/]. I wouldn't mind their answer, be it positive or negative. As I indicated above, I didn't have a chance to start up a game on my dorm's computer yet. So I can't say anything yet. But about your findings. I would like to know what game time we are talking about in your game profile. As far as I know, inflation (seed) values start in multiples of 10%. 25% is, to me, not from 04/04/3000 and probably days later. And apart from that, Kruger is in Valkerie teritory. I don't think you can dock there unless you captured it. But I haven't been there ever, so I don't know. I suggest you try a new game profile and see if you get anything different from the list the SC posted. (not much chance of a corrupted game when your game is minutes old, can it be?) And don't limit yourself to one station when you are searching for something fishy. Remember it has to be reproduceable. I'll get back when I have something substancial to report. Rico -
Trading, but what?, from where?, and where to?
Rico Jansen replied to Rico Jansen's topic in General Discussions
Maybe it's nothing. Perhaps I have a corrupt game or something. But I didn't have any crashes when docking or entering Tradcom. Or stuff looking like GalcomHQ. But I have this install for a very long time now. Without any problems, except for the inconsistancies stated above. It sure looks weird that I have these values. Next weekend I'll try a fresh install of the game. I'll try to reproduce it on a different computer with a different release (GTi 2.08 ->2.09) Hopefully I'll have them tomorrow. Rico
