It was falling under gravity Yep, tractoring certain units from planet to space and vice versa, will cause them to be destroyed.

heh, intruders must have some kind of anti-matter device which shrinks objects down to miniature pocket size.

hehe, indeed.

Just an update to let you know that the testers and I are looking into this Sygan Triangle phenomenon; but so far, nothing concrete yet. You'll know when I know.

Of course creating/implementing such apparently high-AI NPC's is not easy affair... It could work, as long as it (a) is relevant to the storyline ( does not detract from the gameplay. I mean, I dunno about you, but how many times you think you're going to be hailing random NPC ships, only to get the same gag-bag repetitious bullshit? It'll get old very quickly. This is exactly why, all these years, I never bothered with it because if you're going to do it, you have to do it right or its just another novelty that nobody uses once it wears off. The end result? Wasting coding time; and which could be spent on other things. Its one thing putting in a canned DB of questions/responses (which is *exactly* what they're doing) and another to have a fully scripted dynamic conversation system based on an NLP (search for NLP on the forum and you should fine my discussion on it) based hybrid. In fact, for XP1, I don't even know which way I'm going yet because I'm not just going to put in two-ways comms just because a group of people want it. Have you noticed how, in BCM you get shot at a lot? Just think, to prevent that and implement a truly dynamic conversation system that revolves around the many races and castes, I'd have to make some heavy modifications to the game's dynamics, rules of engagement etc etc etc. And even then, it won't be a true NLP (since you won't be typing at a console) but rather an NLP based DB where you select a respond (for the current target) from a menu list. In the current system, by the time you hail a ship, find a message to send and actually send it, there could be a hail of Vagrants just headed in your direction. End of dialog. And vice versa. So, whatever they're doing, is being done in line with the background storyline. Go here. Talk to this moron. Go there. Once that plays out; its going to get repetitive pretty darn quick and by the time you're half-way through, you stop using it. Many have tried to create a truly dynamic and free-form universe and failed (I *cough* W *cough* ar 2). Adding a conversation, even a canned one, isn't any easier. You heard it here first.

There are different types of vehicles. Even though the HAV/LAV come with missiles, they don't have a missile launch system. They however use the same class as the ATV, which is why they come outfitted with missiles - by default. Will probably clean that up in a future patch. Real life movie. Don't worry, with me at the helm, there is NO way they're going to **** it up by introducing non-existent pilgrims in my history timeline. Anyway, its still early yet and we're still negotiating. When it finally breaks, it'll be BIG news and a LOT of people are going to pass out. [ 03-10-2002, 08:16: Message edited by: Supreme Cmdr ]

Wait for Battlecruiser : End Game, the movie based on my creation. Not saying anything else at this point; so don't ask.

I agree. And that bit about the fighters is whats puzzling. But this preview so far is the best to date - and the last two paragraphs say it all. As for the control scheme;you never know, it might just work. I'm going to take a wait-and-see approach before passing final judgement. Anyway, apart from the cut-scenes and the fact they they have different worlds; I can't think of a single critical feature in Freelancer that BCM doesn't already have. And of course XP1 (which will probably ship around the same time), will raise the ante in the graphics dept. Yes, boys and girls, come Fall, we're going toe to toe with Freelancer and the MS marketing behemoth (which didn't help Starlancer one bit). [ 03-09-2002, 08:20: Message edited by: Supreme Cmdr ]

Damn Tac, thats hilarious!!! Its just as cool as this

...heh, thats nuthin' Go hang around in Gammulan territory and see what they come up with. [ 03-09-2002, 08:11: Message edited by: Supreme Cmdr ]

oooooh boy

It cannot be done.

Sounds like an intruder with a very high AI level. Those are the only types that sabotage ships if they can't get away and you try to tractor them. The same kind who booby trap cargo pods.

hehe, I like the topic. As long as you are using the latest patch, you should be able to extract all vehicles and crafts. That one was fixed several versions ago. You should be able to order any unit (marine or otherwise) using Tacops. There is no orders grouping - which is why you should use the Support Units tab in Tacops since it filters out only your own units. Unless you give a unit specific orders to escort, they won't do it. They have no concept of a leader (unlike NPCs) since they are your units and you should make these decisions. Read the manual regarding the differences between escort and defend. I describe them quite clearly in there - in several sections in fact. [ 03-08-2002, 17:48: Message edited by: Supreme Cmdr ]

heh, I got the shots but I can't quite make any sense of it all. So, I'm going to go and reproduce your steps using the same saved game. btw, that 'tear' you see in the Tacops view, is because you placed the camera under the ground. I've already discussed this, so no need to go into any further detail.

I'm going to wait for the inevitable price drop before picking it up for my library. I probably won't play it.

I am at the EXACT location (give or take a few yards, since I was walking about). And if you go into Tacops, there are NO buildings within range and on THAT map. So, I don't know what X is talking about. And if you going to this Sygan Triangle location still causes problems, send me your saved game and I'll check it out. Remember, if you see a land mass on the top-level GBM (Global BitMap) which is displayed when you first launch TacOps, clicking on water, will put you at a water level location. Due to the pixel resolution, this may not seem obvious, which is why you should not make it a habit of going to parts of a planet that you are not sure of. Do you wanna check out my save game, keep it mind it's from 1.0.0.6? Rubbish And no, I don't frigging want your 1.0.06 saved game. Thats not the current version of the game. Unlike you, I'm (a) standing at the damn location ( I'm not on march land © I have a properly configured system (d) I am running the current version of the game (e) I have a saved game (not inconclusive screen shots) which proves my point. Well, I went to Sygan. Read this explanation I previously posted in Beta forum. quote: LMAO!!! Man, you guys are funny. I cannot believe you all fell for this!!! Sygan is mostly marshland, except where there is solid land or I deliberately placed a mzone on the terrain. Remember how guys used to say that they landed on what looked like terrain, but then sank into the ground? This mostly happens where you see Brown dirt, but with patches of Green or Blue. Thats definitely marshland. And you will sink depending on the size of the craft you are flying. e.g. in fp mode, you can probably stand on a patch of land that a shuttle will sink through - since its wider than the patch and a part of it will touch marshland, causing the terrain collision detect to trigger a breach and sink the craft (or object). Anyway, download my Sygan Triangle Myth saved game and either resume or restore, and you will see that I am on solid ground. I also included some pics in the SHOTS folder of that archive. Most people are forgeting that TacOps is a very powerful radar system - and they are falling prey to how it works and what it does. Just because you see an object at a distance (on the planet), doesn't mean that all the data is available. In fact, if that area of the terrain has not been generated or updated, the models will not have been positioned even though the TTDs are visible, indicating that something is there. The point is, you are NOT supposed to even be there. Because TacOps has such a long range view (just think: a space region is about two million km edge-to-edge and TacOps can show the entire region!!), it can identify targets and display their TTD's regardless of terrain data. This is why, you can see targets in TacOps that you cannot see outside the bridge/cockpit. In fact, in one of the shots in this archive, you will see the Red TTDs in the distance. You cannot see them from the HUD if you were facing that same direction. Why? Because they don't exist and have not yet been aggregated. Only TacOps knows about them because of its range. And since space has not terrain, there are no adverse effects - unlike on the planet. So, thats what I think is going on. [ 03-07-2002, 22:19: Message edited by: Supreme Cmdr ]
