Direct2Drive DRM (aka Copy Protection) License Issue
Supreme Cmdr replied to Supreme Cmdr's topic in General Tech Support
Hey!! long time no see!! Anyway, thats not a retail key. If you pre-ordered the game, you got a pre-release key. You should be getting a retail key any minute now. Please babysit your email. -
If you pre-ordered the game from Direct2Drive, when the game became available today for purchase, you were probably sent a key based on the pre-order DRM license instead of the final release license. Direct2Drive is sending out replacement keys to all those who pre-ordered. If you have not received it, please contact them directly as we cannot issue DRM keys. Sorry for the inconvenience!!

Galactic Command Echo Squad SE NOW AVAILABLE!!!
Supreme Cmdr replied to Supreme Cmdr's topic in News
Official word from my IGN contact is that the DRM system issued keys based on the pre-orders instead of the final version. Yours was a pre-order, hence the problem. They've fixed it and you should be getting a new key any time now!! -

Galactic Command Echo Squad SE NOW AVAILABLE!!!
Supreme Cmdr replied to Supreme Cmdr's topic in News
Great. Just great. Here we go again. I've just sent them an email Andergum. Hopefully they can sort it out because there's nothing that I can do on my end as I cannot issue out DRM keys for Direct2Drive. -
Galactic Command Echo Squad SE NOW AVAILABLE!!!
Supreme Cmdr replied to Supreme Cmdr's topic in News
LMAO!!! Gummy, thats just wicked btw, I'm gonna switch the mp dev servers over to run the current build tomorrow. So if you go into the server browser and see two servers there, don't bother trying to connect. They're password protected. I was planning on having some public servers available but (i) I already blew my dev budget (ii) I didn't have time. -
Just an FYI, the Direct2Drive version is the new v2.10.01 build. So only the original Gamers Gate is the original v2.10.00 build; and they too will be replacing it over the weekend.

We put a LOT of work into this game and I swear that at times I felt the niche enhanced (+999 hit points no less!) parts of my IQ seeping away. So, since, this is different from our previous niche games, let us know what you think. And please, NO tech support posts in this thread or your post will be deleted. You know the drill. Talk about the game, the presentation, the campaign, the tutorial, audio, video, multiplayer whatever. Remember, there are three more episodes to go, so whatever tweaking and enhancements are worthy, will most definitely make their way into the builds of the next three episodes in this title.

Galactic Command Echo Squad SE NOW AVAILABLE!!!

...so I take it you have it already? -
Just an FYI, in case you folks hadn't seen my advisory about the radical mp updates coming to UCSE and UCCE later this month. If you ever get to play mp in GCES, then you'll know what to expect. At which point, I doubt that any of you will be bother with UCAWA mp again.

[UCCE] Problem with SecuROM DRM
Supreme Cmdr replied to Axil's topic in Battlecruiser / Universal Combat (Legacy)
Calling all ready, willing and able DRM guinea pigs! The Direct2Drive patch has been re-issued; hopefully with the correct license. Please check it out and post here with a yay or nay verdict. -
OK, this patch has been re-issued with the correct DRM license. If you are still getting licensing issues, please post here.

The version released this morning on Gamer's Gate is v2.10.01. We discovered a DRM license compatibiliy issue in that version and which can lead to unexplained crashes. A small v2.10.01 maintenance update is now available via the game's "Check For Updates" shortcut. After installing the game, check for updates and install it. Be sure to note the install folder when prompted; especially if you still have the game's demo or preview installed. This maintenance update will be rolled into new full build releases over the weekend. So if you buy the game after Monday, it will be the v2.10.01 version and thus no need for an update.

The game is now available on Gamer's Gate and Direct2Drive.

LOL!! Over the years, everytime I read stuff about intruders, it brings me back to times when we used to roll with laughter around here imagining how marines chasing intruders in the ship, round a corner, only to see two misfits lugging a huge reactor between them and trying to make off with it. Ah, good times.

If you have the Direct2Drive version and applied the 1.00.05 patch, read this and roll back to the previous version.

[UCCE] Problem with SecuROM DRM
Supreme Cmdr replied to Axil's topic in Battlecruiser / Universal Combat (Legacy)
Sony has located the source of the licensing issue with the Direct2Drive DRM. It was an issue in the encryption certificate. It has been fixed but I'm not going to re-issue the patch because there is a major multiplayer patch coming in the 1.00.06 build sometime next week. So wait for that version instead. -
One way to "fix" joystick roll/yaw axes
Supreme Cmdr replied to Joel Schultz's topic in General Discussions
Its hard coded in the game. You can't change it. As I've said before, I currently have no plans to change it. As the FAQ says, if your joystick has a twist axis, the CTRL+J option will not work. If you don't want to use a twist axis, uhm, buy a stick without one? None of the UC games support a gamepad; so I dunno what you're going on about there. Once again: The twist axis was introduced by HW manufacturers in order to simulate an aircraft's rudder. You don't use a rudder as a roll axis. Its for yaw (i.e. course correction). What you folks are trying to do is akin to complaining that you can't make your car go in reverse when you put it in drive (or first gear for those of you driving a stick shift). The R was designed for reverse. First gear was designed to go forward, fast. I'll see if we can get CTRL+J to actually work reliably by switching the op on the axis. If it does, then we'll implement it as a maintenance update for GCES and UCCE. -
The gameplay and engine diffs between the original UC (2003) and UCCE (2007) are three generations apart. One way to see the diffs is to look at the version control file (hit the help section of the main website) for UC, then UCAWA, then UCSE, then UCCE. Plus, UCCE contains ALL the scenarios all previous games. Which translates to a ton of campaigns. You'll be playing for the rest of your natural life. Seriously. Every campaign has a story. Echo Squad has several brand new engines (e.g. graphics, multiplayer) and all new assets. If you're looking to buy an epic cap ship combat game, you're waiting your time discussing a 2003 title (UC). We've all moved on.
-
They are different game types. Completely. So the issue goes beyond pluses or minuses. They were developed for two different audiences. If you like cap ship combat, then UCCE is your best bet. For the lighter fare, go with Echo Squad. But there's nothing stopping you from getting both. The ES demo is due out around the end of March after I return from vacation. The box version of ES is due out - hopefully - in late April.

The review was pulled because NOBODY in the media has the full game yet. They only had access to the preview build and thats what he apparently 'reviewed' even though it didn't even contain the game's campaign, multiplayer, a bunch of assets (3D models, audio, music etc). That was supposed to be a preview, not a review. So they've pulled it until they get to actually play the final game. Not sure how they managed that snafu, but it looks like the reviewer and the site's editor have a lot to discuss. The score of 71 itself was suspect since that wasn't even the full game!! In one part, he talked about the weapons fire audio being "not good". Well, uhm, thats because the v2.00.16 preview didn't even have the final ones and was using placeholders. heh. The only scenarios included in the preview are the tutorial. Another day in the gaming media.

Thats a standard error which means either (1) your system is crap; which, I'm sorry to say, it is (2) UC is not installed correctly (3) you are running on unsupported SW/HW

[UCCE] Problem with SecuROM DRM
Supreme Cmdr replied to Axil's topic in Battlecruiser / Universal Combat (Legacy)
This is a SecuROM DRM licensing issue and I'm waiting for a response from Direct2Drive and Sony to tell me wtf is going on. In the meantime, I have pulled the patches and reset the Updater to only show the previous 1.00.04.01 patch. Sorry for the inconvenience but this is the kind of crap we - as gamers - unfortunately have to deal with. Meanwhile, none of these draconian DRM schemes do much to deter pirates [bastards]
