  1. The tutorial used to be 12 pages until I decided to change the orientation to landscape and then reformat it. That increased it to 22 pages and I forgot to update the code. Fixed now in RC25 build Keep it coming guys, two more days to Gold. Anything that comes in after 02/29, is going in a day zero patch update. Thats because there is no HDR and thus the tone mapping which makes the lighting look better also requires HDR. I'll see if we can figure something out to make things brighter when HDR is not in use.
  2. OK, so who didn't see this coming? While we're on the subject... Every Studio EA's Bought and Closed
  3. No need for the shots, since I already know what the issue is. However, I am currently building a .24 update with the floating point checks I mentioned earlier. When its uploaded, just download and apply it. Then run the game and tell me how it looks. It won't look as good as the shots, but at least the textures would be rendered correctly. As far as getting a new card, no matter what anyone tells you STAY AWAY from ATI cards. Any nVidia 8800 class card is good enough. You can pick up a PNY 8800GTS 320MB video card cheap these days. If you can afford it, then go for the PNY 8800GTS 640MB or anything in that range.
  4. Yep, shitty card. Toss it in the garbage when you get the chance. The X850 supports floating point render targets but does not support alpha blending while using them. This is exactly the same reason that blooming in Bioshock doesn't work on that card. http://discussions.hardwarecentral.com/sho...ad.php?t=170528 Same issues with FarCry http://boards.slackercentral.com/archive/i...hp/t-74987.html We'll probably add a separate code path for this, but of course it will lose ALL the blooming, HDR, cool effects etc. Thats the price you pay for having a crappy card I guess.
  5. I have that same card line (X800) here actually. No such issues. Any such issues are either card or driver issues. Send two screen shots to [email protected] and let me take a look. We're going Gold on Friday and nothing is preventing that from happening; especially not - yet another - crappy driver issue from ATI. But I'll see what I can dig up. ATI is notorious for crap like that in their card/drivers and there is nothing that we can do about it. In fact, we had a similar problem with these cards back in July and on the original Echo Squad game. They broke the decoding of BMP images. Yes, really. They didn't fix it and we had to kludge around it. Apparently some ATI cards don't seem to interpret this Pixel Shader correctly. We have to workaround it. They subsequently escalated it to the driver team. We never heard from them again about it. Hence the workaround above. Thats ATI for you. Here are some examples of their incompetence in this regard. These were all compiled in my issues dB back when I was investigating this. http://www.rage3d.com/board/showthread.php?t=33887006 http://www.overclock.net/ati/184805-x1950-...rtifacting.html http://forums.guru3d.com/showthread.php?t=215584 http://forums.guru3d.com/showthread.php?t=220220 http://www.futurehardware.in/571827.htm http://www.futurehardware.in/562568.htm http://www.geexbox.org/forum/viewtopic.php...5c1a665c2b446a8 http://forumz.tomshardware.com/hardware/x1...pict219813.html http://forums.fallenearth.com/fallenearth/...ead.php?p=36210 http://www.hothardware.com/printarticle.aspx?articleid=958
  6. Whoa!! http://blogs.zdnet.com/threatchaos/
  7. I've actually changed this in the .23 update. Funny thing is that nobody noticed. Until now I guess thats probably because most people don't use the keyboard to fly etc Now that I didn't notice. I'll take a look a the commands file and have Joerg correct it. The V key should be colored Blue, as in CTRL+V That mouse button no longer launches missiles. it is used exclusively for the HUD pop-up target menu. The game commands chart is incorrect and will be updated. yep
  8. The problem is that you can't accurately determin the regions within that 3D cockpit in order to implement clickable 3D cockpits without writing a lot of kludgy code. Also, since the radar targets depend on which radar (NID or TRS) system is active, you'd also have to detect which one is actually active. Compromises had to be made, so, I went the path of least resistance and just made the mouse click work anywhere within the HUD but depending on which radar system was active. So if the NID is active when you click the mouse, only the NID radar targets are populated in the list. Since there are three episiodes in the game and each one will require a new executable, we may come up with a solution for this somewhere down the road if one exists. It was designed to be subtle, but I still made it a toggle in Config for those who still find it annoying. Flight dynamics are not slaved to the controls. So your mouse flight controls are not related to the framerate. Exactly. Even the fighter's stats in the game manual are identical to the one in the UC games appendix (e.g. in UCCE).
  9. Be advised that we no longer use Starforce as our DRM. So the current [not the Direct2Drive ones] patches (located on our servers) have been re-issued using a different DRM scheme. So if you patch the game at a latest date, you will be prompted with a hardware fingerprint in the form XXXX-XXXX. Please send that number to [email protected] and you will be sent a new unlock code. This new DRM scheme allows up to five drastic hardware changes before the license is deemed to have expired. If you don't normally use external USB devices (e.g. HDD, DVD/CD ROM drives etc), make sure that it is plugged in before you run the game and the hardware fingerprint is generated otherwise the license will be invalidated if you latest plug it in after entering the unlock code.
  10. You're KIDDING me right?!?! Listen to me, do you KNOW what any of this stuff means or are you just throwing out stuff to see what sticks? The minimum cards requirements are what they are specifically because we support SM 2.0 and 3.0; so it makes sense (at least from a developers standpoint) to support cards that have both of these shader models without having to do separate paths like we did before where we supported SM 1.1 and SM 2.0 as two separate paths, with separate shaders etc. Listing an SM 2.0 card (which is legacy btw, considering that SM 3.0 and 4.0 cards have been out as next gen for awhile) means that we need to support two shader paths. SM 2.0 for the min and SM 3.0 and higher (we don't use any SM 4.0 instructions) for the max. Why do more work when in fact any gamer with half a brain and wanted to play high-end games released in 2007, let alone 2008, need to have an SM 3.0 card? PLUS anyone who has a system that is more than eighteen months old, SHOULD have an SM 3.0 card. If they don't, then should stick to browser games and their rubbish ilk. Any gamer who knows what they're talking about or who reads gaming mags (online or print) knows that a mid-range card these days is spec'ed at GeForce 8800GT levels, with a high-end card being spec'ed at GeForce 8800 Ultra. In fact, anything short of a GeForce 6800 card is sub-par and considered legacy hardware. Just like my decision to support Windows XP and Vista and with no support for legacy Windows 98. Even further, Talon Elite was scheduled to be released in Q4/08 (November to be exact). So its engines were based on a 2008-09 period. When Echo Squad SE was decided on and its graphics engine replaced with the TE one, obviously Echo Squad SE inherited those requirements. Here are the requirements for the original 2006-07 game right there on the game's product page. Go compare it to the Echo Squad SE requirements and ask yourself why that became the case. Go and ask your graphics card. We have SM 2.0, 3.0 and 4.0 cards here running with ZERO problems. If you have a crappy card or one with crappy drivers, thats your problem. The system requirements are pretty crystal clear. If you have a tech support issue, report it. Thats why there is a thread for that. But come asking me stupid questions like I have a crystal ball gazing over what machine every gamer has. Hence the reason the system requirements are printed online and in the game's manual. Even at other sites that I visit, when someone encounters a problem, they post about it and I look into it. Hence the recent revisions and hence the preview build in order to identify and resolve any pending issues we may have missed, since we're going gold sometime this week for a March 3rd release. You specifically said I think the classic pew, pew lasers will get old pretty fast... There really needs to be more variety in a game like this.. The "pew pew" terminology - at least to those of us who actually do have a firm grasp on the English language - know that it refers to audio, not video. Hence my response pertained to audio. And to answer your video related comment. Its because different colored lasers add NOTHING to the game. Coloring them is a two - three line shader instruction. I chose to leave them standard. What difference does a Blue laser from a Yellow laser make? NONE. That is a design decision that I get to make. And I chose to have it that way; as opposed to the way it was in my previous games. Unless you have something constructive to post, I'd think twice about posting again if I were you. You know the rules. No exceptions. If someone else wants to pitch in here, so I know its not just me, please go ahead because I'm stumped by the foolishness of this discussion.
  11. OK, none of that please. Thanks.
  12. None of the flight dynamics, nor the shield/armor ratings for the ships were altered. Why should they be? The game is based on an existing IP. So the part about fighters taking more abuse is rubbish. You're just bad at dogfighting and keep missing. Flight dynamics are ship related. AI is pilot related. Two completely different things. Which is why an agile fighter in the hands of a low AI pilot is nowhere near a threat as a less agile fighter at the hands of a high AI pilot. Everyone is an armchair developer these days. FYI, the graphisc engine not only uses SM 2.0 and 2.0b, but also 3.0. If you don't know what you're talking about, don't talk. I love how you talk about "complete lack of" as if you actually knew wtf you were talking about. And do you even *know* what either of those shader models do? FYI, we don't even use anything less than SM 2.0. Hence the game's system requirements. And despite the lack of SM 2.0 in Bioshock, how exactly did that hurt the game, considering its phenomenal sales and critical acclaim? heh. Again, you're not paying attention. Every single audio in the game is brand new and designed to my specifications. If you don't like it, turn off the sound. Its there in Config. You go tell George Lucas or anyone with an IP that they should change something just for the heck of it. Enjoy the game for what it is and not what you want it to be. Makes no difference to me either way since I didn't make it for you. That is exactly why PC game developers don't even pay attention to gamers anymore. Some gamers think they know whats right and whats wrong. As Gore Verbinski said recently at DICE, everyone has an opinion, but at the end of the day, only your opinion of what you're creating matters. Or something to that effect. That has been my philosophy all along. - DS

  14. I can provide as many server copies as needed. Just send me the info via PM. I need the (a) the game ( the server op's forum name © the server IP
  15. You're the first person to report any sort of crash; apart from that one guy who sent me an email saying he was trying to run it on a 64-Bit version of Vista, even though the FAQ clearly indicates that its not supported. And since I have no idea about your system info or what conditions you're running under, we can't help you. The game includes an extensive FAQ. Please look at it. The game does support widescreen (here are some 1080p shots). Please refer to the product info. You however should not force a screen mode because that can and will cause a crash in the video driver. Any mode that your card/monitor supports is listed in Config. So e.g. if you don't have widescreen support, you won't see widescreen resolutions (e.g. 1280x720) there and should instead use 1280x960 or whatever is listed as being supported by your hardware. Also just to ensure that you're using the same version as everyone else, be sure that you have downloaded the latest update (first post in this thread).
  16. Goddamn waste of time and resources if you ask me. It won't amount to anything at all.
  17. The cheat mode can be enabled by adding /use_godmode to the shortcut. Then you won't die and can pretty much go around gazing at the bright lights during the major battles.
  18. A set of twenty-eight 1080p (1920x1080) shots have been released Equipment used: MONITOR: 42" Westinghouse LVM-42W2 1080p display @ 1920x1080 (native resolution @ 16:10 aspect ratio) SYSTEM: Windows Vista Home Premium Intel Core2Duo E6600 @ 2.4GHz 2GB Kingston DDR2-666 RAM PNY nVidia 8800GTS 640MB video card Creative Labs X-Fi sound card output to DTS receiver via Creative Labs Home Theater DTS-610 Saitek AV8R-01 joystick XBOX 360 Controller for Windows
  19. Direct2Drive and Gamers Gate now have their pre-orders page up for the digital distribution version of the game due to launch on March 3rd. IGN's Direct2Drive Paradox Interactive's Gamers Gate (10% off until March 2nd) With Direct2Drive, if you are a FilePlanet subscriber, you can get in on the sneak preview now as well. The public demo is not due out until the end of this month at the earliest.
  20. Well, since its an action game, the dogfighting and AI skill dynamics were revised to match. But yeah, your dogfighting skills are shot because you've been used to prancing around in a cap ship.
  21. Anyone with access to a 1080 big screen TV used for playing games, is in for a treat. I've been researching some crackling sounds coming from my receiver because my gaming rig is connected to it (and a Westinghouse 42" 1080p display) via a Creative Labs DTS-610 decoder outputting in DTS. Anyway, everytime I fire up the game on that rig, I just sit there and play instead of focusing on the problem I'm supposed to be researching. :} Posted in wrong forum.
  22. Voltaic, the resident Webmaster is on some job assignment, so I need someone to setup something on the website backend. Send me PM directly. Unless you have really good web development skills, please don't bother. I am looking to revamp the sales section of the website by setting up a store frontend shopping cart (using e-junkie). Nothing fancy, just a basic shopping cart which uses Google Checkout, PayPal Website Standard and SwiftCD. I have accounts for all three. This is a paid assignment and it shouldn't take more than a day or so to setup.
  23. I am quite shocked that nobody noticed that Mother, is different!!! Surely she's not that monotonous guys!! If that was Resnig, you'd all notice. hehe
  24. heh, the Starlance cockpit isn't even the best cockpit. And we did cockpits for all 25 fighters in the game engine. Episode 2 of the game features the Interceptor MK1 (the fighter seen in the recent gameplay movie)
