Planet Side Rendering Problems with 21.83 Drivers (false alarm)
Supreme Cmdr replied to a topic in Battlecruiser Series
Yeah, I use 22:80 too, but I can't recommend it to anyone because they are not the official drivers for the card. -
I need to think about this very carefully...
Supreme Cmdr replied to Supreme Cmdr's topic in General Chatter
Yes, got it and replied. Thanks I just got off the phone with both of my attorneys and they say that I should just file a complaint and not even send them a warning. But they cautioned that it could cause allienation between myself and other gaming sites, and whether I want to take the risk. So, I've sent private emails to my friends in the media and will be watching to see what they have to say. -

Supreme Cmdr replied to Supreme Cmdr's topic in General Chatter
And I forgot to add that EA is not even in my PR list. So, I don't WHY they continue to post news bits about my games - if not to continue this farce. -
Folks, Before the crap storm hits, I want you all to read this and be aware of my comtemplation of legal action against the Evil Avatar site, the site owner (Philip 'Evil Avatar' Hansen), and John 'DrCrypt' Brownlee (yes, I have all his real details too). This will be the first time that I am doing this and I don't need to tell you all of the impending implications. Nothing to do with Free Speech Nothing to do with someone not liking me Nothing to do with censorship Its all about a site and its owner promoting, propagating and using their site for libel and other attrocious non gaming acts against developers. And I'm not the only one he does it to. Prior to this post, I had several conversations with some industry developer friends of mine. And while the general consensus was to just ignore him, the gist of it is that I have been ignoring this for too long. In fact, to the extent that he banned me from posting there, after repeated complaints about his friend (see emails below), John Brownlee's actions. Of course he didn't want to go against his friend etc. IIRC, the EA site is under PR ban by some publishers, including Sierra, for similar actions. But thats a whole different and documented story. Search his site. I know I'm going to get buried in flames, more abuse and the like. But unless I set an example (in addition to my impending actions against Bill Huffman and his ISP host), this is never going to stop. And a site that is supposed to cater to the gaming industry, promoting this farce, is just not happening. Its as simple as that. Every one of his advertizers, his ISP and his host, are going to get a letter from my attorney. And until and unless I get a public apology and the libel ceases, I will do it. Of course, he's probably going to laugh at me because he thinks I'm bluffing. My game has shipped. I have time. We'll see who is bluffing. You should also know that Philip Hansen and I have a history going back to the early days of the Usenet BC3K 1.0 flame wars. Yes, he may have a site now, but he's still the same evil bastard he was back then. That is all I have to say. Before I do anything, I'd like to read your comments on this matter. If you don't feel like publicly posting, send me a private message via email or the forum board. The seriousness of one of his regulars talking about accusing me of being a child molester (someone send me the thread via email this morning), is indeed a very real and scary threat. Here is the excerpt (in case EA goes and deletes it, even though he read it and posted several posts later) from this this thread (11 posts down). quote: is there any way for us to put him out of business without stalking him? like accuse him of child molestation? ps: These 9 threads are all saved locally. So EA can delete them all he wants. It won't change a thing. Links removed. Not giving that prick any traffic. If you want them, send me a private message. quote: From: "Philip Hansen" To: , "Derek Smart" Subject: Re: Phone Harassment Date: Wed, 22 Aug 2001 13:22:00 -0700 X-Mailer: Microsoft Outlook Express 5.50.4522.1200 You too kids play nice or no cookie. John: Derek Smart is an excellent individual if you give him a chance. Don't harass him in my forums or in any other places online and give him a chance and I think you will find that he can contribute a lot to any discussion that is allowed to stay on topic. Show him some respect and I think you will find that he will act in a way that is worthy of respect. Just lighten up a little and you might make a good friend. Derek: You know better than to get dragged into every little internet flame war. Don't reply to people who try to draw you out with comments about Battlecruiser or old Usenet posts and just stay on-topic no matter what these people try to draw you into and I think you will find that pretty quickly they won't bother since you didn't bother to pay any attention to them. Not to mention that you will win more friends by NOT talking about your game and replying to trolls than you will by attacking them and letting discussions go off topic. Both you guys take it easy. Gaming should be fun. I might seem like the last one to talk (Sierra... HaHa.) but, just let these things go and spend more time talking about games and gaming and less time CCing each other about who is the bigger jerk. (Hey, if you didn't want a lecture, you shouldn't have CC'd me. ) -Philip quote: Date: Mon, 27 Aug 2001 23:13:55 -0400 From: "John Brownlee" Reply-To: To: Derek Smart Subject: Re: Phone Harassment X-Mailer: As far as I know, EA doesn't make any reservations of the ownership of posts on his forums. That makes it public domain. So, in answer to your question, yes, it is legal. Anyway, the thread has been deleted now, the fight is over, what more do you want? Clueless Newbie Questions

Dunno what you're talking about, but I just printed the entire page of cruisers (cruisers.html) just fine. -
quote: Originally posted by Carl Burning: Well, officers and pilots are the only others who carry weapons on the ship besides marines... BTW .. shouldnt disableing power to the transporter keep intruders from boarding? because of pg 59 of the manual it says they have to break your transporter security codes... Well, why not just simply turn the transporter off? Because they don't use YOUR transporter. They use theirs. Their breaching the security codes pertains to them fiddling with and breaching the phased trans matrix modular whotzit in order to actually be able to beam to your ship. Nothing to do with the functionality of your transporters. Yeah, thats my story and am sticking to it. FWIW, at one time I thought about changing it so that they couldn't board if your transporter was off. But where's the fun in that? I'd have to come up with something for transports without marines.

I just felt the form it took could be a little more polished than a batch file. A dozen lines or so of C code could do the same thing as an invisibly executing Win32 app (you know, just a short "WinMain" and that's it). But again, that's my aesthetic sense, not yours... FWIW (it's probably too late to change) if you want I could probably whip that code up in 5 minutes or so and sent it your way. No strings, no charge, just a fan contrib. No thanks. I know how to do it. A batch file was the easiest solution, since I used the same method in BC3K. Just think, if we [developers] cared enough about it, don't u think autorun would be such a pest even though the app is already installed? quote: I really like the training mode. Last night I goofed around in FP mode. No, you can't watch yourself getting surgery done . But I did figure out how that TDU unit ("P" key) and DIE work. Plus figured out how to turn the TDU off (zero key - like I'm holstering it?). So what does this have to do with training mode? Well - it means I can spend time doing this without worrying about other events or getting shot. That was the intention behind my creating them. quote: Yet another cool impression - accidentally crashing my fighter over an Insurgent base and being able to hop out and run to a supply station for healing and ammo! Too bad I couldn't find an empty figher to commandeer... Look for it in XP1 and possibly the multiplayer patch.

Box says that Voodoo 3 4 5 Supported
Supreme Cmdr replied to Badgerius's topic in Battlecruiser Series
The box is correct. It correctly states that the game was tested on those boards. Which it was. It correctly states that driver incompatibilities may exist and beyond our control. Which do exit and are beyond our control. What'd I miss? -
hehe, you encountered my auto-responder. I've sent you the code.

The last time I looked, HTML files were printable. What is the problem exactly? -

I suppose you missed the asterisk next to the supported text? -

I agree that with no input about specifics and hardware profile, this posting is as worthless as tits on a bore, yet you might want to keep the thread open a few moew days. Will try the suggested changes on here and the FAQ tonight. If those changes do not resolve the problems, will post data tomorrow. BTW...Smart, thanks for standing by the product, I have absolute faith the staff will squash any bugs. OK, thanks. Let me know what you come up with. So far, apart from the few obscure bugs (9 to date and all fixed), the game should be running just fine. Obviously it is for most people, leading me to believe (as we have already seen on numerous occassion), that drivers and system configs are the culprits. BCM is NOT forgiving in ANY shape or form when it comes to its requirements. ANY deviation from the requirements and operating conditions, CAN and WILL cause problems. Unlike more developers and publishers, I don't post bogus system requirements. While they may be steep, thats because BCM was designed for the high-end - being a niche title and all. Unless one's gaming rig is top notch and MODERN, you stand ZERO chances of having a reliable operating environment. Quite simple really. [ 11-23-2001: Message edited by: Supreme Cmdr ]

I was having a chat with Joe Foster over at PC Arena (he's doing a BCM review) and he asked me why I decided to design BCM to run in real-time. He also asked why there is no time acceleration and what he should do while waiting for the mining drones he deployed, to fill up. Well, I decided to offer good ol' Joe, some expert advice. If you can think of any, please pitch in. DO NOT try this at home kids. This is for the purpose of HUMOR only. pay your bills. go out and get stamps for the bills you've just paid and are about to mail. file your nails. take out the trash. do the dishes. do the laundry. feed the fish. feed the fish to the cat. feed the cat to the dog. take the dog for a walk. take out the empty pizza box to the trash. wash the car (if you don't own one, wash your neighbor's). find that lost CD case you've been meaning to look for. paint a small section of wall, and watch the paint dry. mend the leak in the roof. empty the drip pan (next to the computer) filled by the leaky roof. go to the store and buy alchohol. Half way back to the house, go back to the store and return the alchol. Get the Dew now that is just occured to you that you don't drink. go to the umemployment office and demand that they find you a job. Don't tell them you're a game developer. As a plumber you'll get a job quicker. call up your 95 lb girlfriend and tell her she's fat. call up your girlfriend and tell her you're not gay after all and that you just like the way her dresses fit you. call up your mother-in-law and tell her you'd like to borrow some money for a sex change operation. tell your landlord you can't pay the rent and that you're short (from buying BCM). Again. Bring your neighbor's dog inside. Then call up your neighbor and tell him you've given his dog (who poops in your yard) to the Humane society. if you own a car, lock the keys inside. Then try to find a locksmith. You don't own a copy of the phone book. lock yourself out of the house. Then try to climb back into the house through a window. Just know that if I see one post from you (or anyone) which indicates the use of this unsupported feature (via the commandline), the post will be deleted, your profile deleted and you banned from posting on the forum. I think thats clear enough. So, by all means, go use it. -

Once again This patch REQUIRES Direct X 8.1 You do NOT need an unlock code. Simply press the CONTINUE button to proceed. This patch has an expiration date in order to inform you that it is an interim patch. The final patch will be out prior to expiration. If the patch prematurely expires (which has been known to happen, even when we used it in the Beta), simply write down the serial number displayed on the dialog screen and send to [email protected] along with your CDKEY from the CDROM Tyvex sleeve. You need to send in BOTH of these numbers.

If you had previously downloaded this update, please download it again, as it now contains a missing ENGLISH.LNG file which fixes the Tacops observe planet issue.

No. Its hard coded to work that way.

Sounds like memory. ...and how come you didn't indicate your memory amount in your specs? And with those specs, you should be running at 800x600 in 16 or 32bit [ 11-23-2001: Message edited by: Supreme Cmdr ]

The patch was supposed to delete all existing saved games. The file format is obsolete, as indicated in the VCF. Just go into the SAVE folder and delete everything. Dunno why it didn't work on your end, but as far as I know, the patch does delete them....unless you applied the patch from the desktop - which you SHOULD NOT DO for EXACTLY that reason (it won't find the correct path to your install folder).
