I'm a big Redford fan, so, here I was at the theatre - with everyone else at the pool. If you like spy and espionage type movies, run, don't walk. Go see this!

Why am I sometimes unable to damage, with missile or guns, an enemy ship disabled by an NPC? This was pre-patch. I'm not sure I understand that. If there's something you want to show, a screen shot or saved game would be nice. There shouldn't be any reason why you can't destroy a unit in the game, unless you use the wrong weapon for the job. Remember, e.g. carriers are larger than fighters. So, the shots are larger. As such, there is a very good chance that you could be missing or the shot larger enough to miss the target. Pluse, you REALLY need to read section 6 of the manual. If the above is not what you are reporting, then I need info and proof of same. Then I'll something to go on.

Clueless Newbie Questions

I can teleport troops no problem, but like I said, I can't use the shuttle's deploy ability. Can you plese give me some tips as to what I may be doing wrong? Man, I think I'm doing everything correctly. I have crew inside the ATV, I assign waypoints for the ATV. I would think everything should work fine. I give the shuttle the order to deploy vehicle as one of it's way points, but the shuttle just does not want to deploy. I'd really appreciate it.Oh, one other question...Can you assign waypoints for marines. Like assign them to teams? I know you could in 3000AD, but I'm having difficulties doing it now (It's a different game, I know). I know your busy, thanks for your help. Oh, and I swear, I've read the manual like 3 times. [ 11-22-2001: Message edited by: schoch1 ] hmmm 1. Vehicle deployment is exactly as stated in the Tacops section of the manual. The only thing I can add is that you should pick a flat spot to land on. Peter's going to be modifying the flight dynamics so that crafts that want to land, so that I can use that in VTOL. This will make drop/collect ops a lot easier I think. Until then, if you can't do it using waypoints, then do it the old fashion way. Put your AE in the shuttle, launch and land manually. Then use the shuttle cockpit commands to deploy the vehicle and assign personnel to teams to deploy them as well. 2. No. You can't set waypoints to marines. Look for that feature in a future patch. It didn't carry over from BC3K because its a lot more complex and AI more advanced in BCM. So it needs special handling. -
Yeah, the SFM career is pretty hard. Heh, those playing this career in mp, have their work cut out for them.

I guess so

quote: Originally posted by Meldan: See the 4th paragraph. And the problem is what? The ships are too damaged to move. Do you think yours is the only ship with internal systems that can get damaged, even though other systems are OK? What do you think will happen if you lost your reactor or engine, but still have weapon systems? And if you actually READ the manual, you'd know that the ROE do not permit NPCs to attack disabled or ships emitting an SOS. Topic moved

quote: Originally posted by Korono Lakeela: I then uninstalled and reinstalled the game and it would run fine, but when I reinstalled the patch, the same thing happened. I then downloaded the patch again and reinstalled everything, and bam, same problem.[ 11-22-2001: Message edited by: Korono Lakeela ] Same problem? What same problem? Could you be more specific? That error message is not from BCM. Its from DX. And if the patch expired, it means that it got hosed. If this is the case (the patch expired), then send the serial number from the patch execution screen to the email indicated above.

Game crashes when doing a Cargo Sweep (resolved)

The problem had nothing to do with the patch. It is DX 8.1 related. I just heard back from one person who didn't have DX 8.1 installed. Once he installed it, the patch worked fine. [ 11-22-2001: Message edited by: Supreme Cmdr ]

btw the released game used the DX 8.0a SDK (which is why its also on the CD-ROM). The patch uses DX 8.1 SDK. Guess what this means. It means that you MUST have DX 8.1 runtime installed.

Post your war stories, experiences etc in here.

Post your fun things to try here. I'll get the ball rolling. SNG as Terran/Insurgent/Midae/New America Launch. Then turn around and fly back to the station. Once you are on top of it. Set speed to 0, turn on the A/P and give the CC the HALT order. ALT+E to exit the ship. Now fly into the asteriod to the base below. If you are feeling brave, SNG as Terran/Military and go over to Midae. Then ALT+E and say hi to the welcome party. [ 11-22-2001: Message edited by: Supreme Cmdr ]

Do you have a legit copy of BCM? Trust me, I know why I am asking this. Only those with half a brain, think I'm stupid or worried about ISOs of the game currently floating around on Warez site. Pah! SafeDisc is just the first line of defense. Anyway, if you have a legit copy of the game, I need both of you the serial number displayed on the patch screen (where the CONTINUE button is) and your registration number (printed on the CDROM Tyvex sleeve) to [email protected]

Clueless Newbie Questions

LOL!! Oh boy.... Anyway, enough with the crap already. No wonder serious noobs are creating new threads. Who wants to be made fun of? -
My fellow BC gamers, I just wanted to thank you, the testers and staunch fan base, for the support over the years and your dedication to this series. Without your input, support, involvement and constant food fights in the Beta program, this product would probably not have turned out the way it did. The tech support forums are testament to all our hard work and dedication - especially for a product that continues to be the largest and most complex game of our time. This has been a team effort and I will continue to do my best in keeping the team together and alive. There are those who would otherwise seek to bring disharmony to this community, knock our hard work and otherwise disrupt what we have going here. They are jealous. Pure and simple. We've been called all sorts of names by anon faceless, inconsequential, delinquent buffoons whose sole purpose in life is to put others down in order to feel good about themselves - and commit wanton acts of libel and slander just because they can. They have failed time and time again over the years to disrupt my dream and that which is shared by the very people who make this all the more worthwhile. Today, WE are STILL here, doing what WE do best. Develop and play games we CARE about. At the end of the day, its about the game. I never did and I still don't give a rat's *ss what anyone thinks of me. All I care about is what I think of myself, my work, my dedicated dev team, testers and fan base. I have never tried to defend my actions, verse and or methods to anyone. I don't plan on starting. Ever. Whatever you read online about me. Whatever line of fire you have come under from me. Whatever opinions you might have of me based on experience or what you read - are all your own. Whether you consider me rude, abrasive, egotistical, eccentric, stark raving mad or otherwise, one thing you should remember is that I LIKE who I am and if I was anybody else, I wouldn't be Derek Smart. Whether anyone likes it or not, unless some act of God occurs and which prevents me from doing what I love doing (game development), I'm going to be here until I grow more Grey hairs. I have a young daughter whose very life, and indeed that of my fiancee, depends on the decisions I make. All the people who work for me, have families and responsibilies. All of who also depend on the decisions I make. Therefore, while this may all be fun and games to the casual onlooker, at the end of the day, I have people, other than myself, whose very lives and income, depend on me, this company and the very products I develop. And at the end of the day, this big business hobby of mine depends on your involvement, your support, your direction and indeed your friendship. We have put a LOT of work into this product, and believe me when I tell you this, even if I only sell 10 copies, I'm still going to continue developing games for the 10 of those who bought and played it. I have said this time and time again and have, so far, stuck to this notion. Over the years, I have made good on each and every promise I have made to you regarding this series. Who can forget the mishap of 1996? When, more than two years were spent being ridiculed, harassed, libeled and generally made the most fun of. Yet, we patched the game for those of you who bought it - and released it on the Net for free. Yet again in 1998, there was another BC title. Also released for free on the Internet a few months back, in order to give others (more than 100K downloads net-wide) the opportunity to realize this dream with us. Here we are, 2001 and we have yet another BC title and with a lot more to come. WE play games. This is what WE do best. So, Happy Thanksgiving to those of you in the US. As you can see, I am up and back at work for part of the day. Cheers and thanks for your continued support and understanding. Keep the dream alive! [ 11-23-2001: Message edited by: Supreme Cmdr ]

[ 11-22-2001: Message edited by: Andergum ] Heh, you didn't think you were the only one with marines, did you? While you can't deploy space marines (I had that in my wishlist but removed it due to time constraints), the NPCs can - and stations will counter with their own team. Perhaps in a future patch, I will allow you to do the say as NPCs. Otherwise, it will be in XP1 - which also gives you the ability to select your marines weaponry, deployment profile (EFM, MIM, SFM) etc, directly from Tactical. As for launching missiles are SFMs. Man, thats just sick.
