  1. Because... 1. Gamers love to tinker 2. Gamers like to use other game tools to create the games that other developers won't make. I myself am waiting for the B5 mod.
  2. Why don't you try it and find out?
  3. quote: Originally posted by Soback: The drones move so fast I can't imagine having to chase after them in a shuttle if you would have to be within a certain distance to pick one up. 1. Shuttles are faster than drones 2. Drones stop periodically. Have you ever actually observed how they 'mine'? Check it out.
  4. quote: Originally posted by Soback: Is it possible to completly mine the planet of minerals or do they regenerate? 1. No 2. Yes
  5. ouch! ...well, you did ask
  6. quote: I zoomed in on the zone. One mission scene there. It also had an odd designation. "Utopia". Funny, but from Tacops, it did look like a utopia. The entire planet was black and devistated, but this section had greenery, and a lake nearby. Finally, the source of the strange signal was found. It looked like a probe. It was somehow embedded in the ground. The Tacops seemed to mark it as an "unknown" instead of a probe, though. Still Gal/Exp.... I set a waypoint down on the planet, and engaged planetfall procedures. Congratulations. You have found one of the many mysteries embedded in the BCM world. There are several. Some quite shocking and others astounding. Go back to Utopia....
  7. quote: Originally posted by Captain Dread: Yeah, there are too many SF marines, but they are also too stupid. I saw two opposing factions in one game fighting over a station (fighter craft were attacking each other), but the marines weren't anywhere near the station, and they weren't killing each other... It seems they also need some more intelligence.[ 11-24-2001: Message edited by: Captain Dread ] They're not stupid. They don't have a firing solution and the dynamics logic for space flight is a lot more complex than on firm ground. Anyway, they will have new logic in the new update which confines them to the vicinity around the station and relax the acquisition rules as per combat awareness.
  8. I take it you have a fast system and vid card, running at 800x600x16 Bit? I find massive surface assaults very system intensive. Hence the upcoming major optimization to the laser firing and collision detect determination. When I assault a base, from 50+ fps (on a 1Ghz, GF3, 1024x768x32, 512MB RAM), I drop down to like 15 fps (even in space). But anyway, the upcoming 1.0.02 update is purely optimizations (and any new issues discovered between now and then).
  9. Unless you can reproduce it reliably, I'm not touching it. I've been on ENOUGH wild Geese chases these few days and my sneakers are worn out. I can't think of any reason why killing hostile marines would cause a CTD. So, if you can reproduce it, post conclusive results and steps for reproduction. Then I will ask for the saved game. If you still have that saved game, send it to [email protected] with a description of the problem.
  10. Previously posted by EAGLE. Moved here Situation. I am Ter/merc in Sygan region near Syganstar base (Ter/Ins hostile). Friendly carrier uncloaks and unloads 10 space marines toward station, station replies with 10 marines and 2 fighters. I close in, damage the station and dock with takeing it under my control. I leave the station trying to kill red marines and as soon as i kill first enemy marine, i get CTD. Small details: before taking station. Kill friendly marine nothing (bad) happens Kill enemy marine nothing after taking over station. Kill friendly marine nothing Kill enemy marine CTD. if station is destroyed. Kill both sides nothing hapens. Note: the only time i was able to kill red marines after taking station is when they were leaving region to Zilon not engageing each other. When they were fighting each other i had same CTD. (in previouse game before 1.0.01 patch.) It may be hard to reproduce with marines so I have save files before taking over the station and after , with all marines in place. Did anyone else have this? P3 733 256Mb SDRAM VooDoo3 (4.12.01.0666) Sound blaster Live Value. (4.11.01.0711) DirectX 8.1 Win98SE
  11. quote: Originally posted by Commander Blake: umm, update, I just noticed(wasn't important at the time but) that both of my turret arrays are destroyed down to 12% and my life support and main computer are at 12% too, hmm, I can't repair any of them, maybe a bug with the borders or something, isn't like 12% the border between damaged and destroyed?...(yellow and red) if so, that may be a problem with repairing stuff...just a theory though... No. Where did you get the impression that 12% was the border between damaged and destroyed? I'd really, truly like to know.
  12. quote: Originally posted by Killzone: I've encountered the same problem. I've had systems that were greyed out where I replaced the parts while docked at a station, then when I left the repair was suspended but it wouldn't let me assign anyone to finish the task. READ the manual. If you leave the station before the repairs are completed....and you DON'T have the parts the station had.... [ 11-24-2001: Message edited by: Supreme Cmdr ]
  13. OK, there are two issues in this thread. 1. Persistent transporter FX 2. Partial rendered AE after transporting 3. Persistent damage FX So... - which one are we talking about? - which ones are resolved? [ 11-24-2001: Message edited by: Supreme Cmdr ]
  14. quote: Originally posted by Roberto: Yes, you are both right in what you mentioned about both being able to zoom to the surface, and look around untill you see them far far in the distance. And yes, to the comment about retreving drones. But regarding the extraction of marines, now that Ive yet to get working. I may just be doing something wrong. but it would still be nice if there was a easier way to find those units, if you just want to zoom to them. Thats what the TACOPS/ZOOM TO menu is for quote: I do have one other problem, which IS a genuine problem too as Ive been trying to figure out if I was doing something wrong or not, and that is this... If you start a mission up as a training mission, and choose EF Marine so you start off on the surface in a tank. Exit the tank, fire off 2 grenades with the ZS10, then run to the nearest supply point, and just re-supply your weapons, and you will see that it gets stuck in a loop, every time!! Only seems to do this for grenades for some reason. I find that I cant move, no matter how long I leave it running, and I also have a repeated clicking noise in the background, which I think is the noise that is supposed to play when you reload your gun. 1. Did you read the VCF? 2. Did you apply the 1.0.01 final patch?
  15. quote: Originally posted by Commander Blake: Ok, Gallion, like I said before, my main computer is destroyed, which means I can't access Logistics outside of the station, which means, if your right, I can't repair it, I"m pretty sure that would be a bug... ...and this would be a bug because?? Anyway, Gallion is right. If a primary system is gone, its gone. Period. It can only be replaced. This is WELL documented in the manual. Listen, I'm going to start revoking posting rights (yes, I've done it before) for people posting what they believe to be bugs simply because they (a) haven't read the manual ( dont' quite yet grasp that they're playing a game that requires - A BRAIN - to play. Regarding your issue : its like this : If a primary component is destroyed (or damaged), ALL the systems attached to it will be affected. If you cannot access Logistix because the main computer is down, do what any sensible person would do: Either go to a station and repair the main computer or commit Hari Kari. And if you DON'T know how stations allocate engineers and repair items, read the manual again and again. This forum is for problem reports, NOT gameplay tips. 'nuff said. 16. Delete all the saved games. The patch should've done that since its now the final version.
  17. "as there were still like a billion SF marines floating around." I'm going to do something about that in the next update (which also has more laser fire optimizations for vastly improved speed during massive battles) because the capital ships and stations are launching too many SFMs.
  18. quote: Originally posted by Tac: My poor Questar was boarded by 8 intruders. My 5 marines were quickly whacked to 12% life.Funny thing was, my marines were all ordered to medibay.. and the intruders apparently did nothing for the next 10 minutes. Then I got a message that Cargo Bay 1 had been damaged, I checked it, 19% on red.. ouch. Then I checked the perscan, all intruders were dead. MWAHAHA. Guess they decided to smoke next to the O2 tanks. LOL!! They must have been Gammulans. They can't read English too well. So they must have missed the NO SMOKING IN HERE YER GIT! sign.
  19. quote: Originally posted by Captain Dread: I think the main point is, why do we have the "C" button. Multiplayer And did you just conveniently happen to miss the description of the C command on the keyboard sheet? You DO have a copy of the game, right?
  20. quote: Originally posted by [PCA]Pheonix: so you can get Fc&C in Roam now then? Just by getting loads of EPs? Yes. Manual p66
  21. quote: Originally posted by Menchise: It's not as bad as you may think, because the AI of friendly NPCs will also increase (I think). So unless you don't have fleet command and control ability by day 7 (you might as well send the enemy an invitation to roast you if you don't), then you can gather up some very smart allies to help you. Correct
  22. quote: Originally posted by JJ: thanks Gallion, but i still have one small question, whats the IOD stand for Manual p44
  23. Player to NPC (and vice versa) comms is something I always wanted to do. In fact, around early 1991, I had a full blown NLP (Natural Language Parser) I developed just for that. However, due to the hectic nature of the game, I dropped it. I mean, do you want to be typing something in the comms console (ala NLP) while your adversary is lobbing missiles at you? By the time you hit the send key, you'd be down to 0 integrity. So, it would have to be a canned response database. Well, I'm not notorious for putting in half-assed features in my game. If something is worth doing, do it right. As such, to do a lookup database of responses....for over 25 castes and 12 alien nations, would be quite an undertaking. I'm talking thousands of message and response combinations. And say you actually got that done, now you need new rules which determine what the NPC responds in relation to what you send to it. ....it gets worse You now have now to determine how the valid messages you can send are partitioned based on stance and instancing. For example, if you asked a diplomat in a transport to disarm his weapons - he's just going to tell you to f*ck off (if he's hostile), while a friendly would have to tell you something else or totally ignore you. Then you need an interface for that. Which means Selecting a target Hitting the C key Selecting a canned message to send. The end result? ITS NOT EASY! Communicating with an NPC is not the same as communicating with some jackass in mp. Even then, you'd still be caught typing crap while he's lobbing a rocket up your pipe. To do this feature, I anticipate would take about 3-4 months of work and testing. OK, so who wants to cut me a cheque for about $50K? [ 11-24-2001: Message edited by: Supreme Cmdr ]
