It will require client-side authentication. Just like Quake, Unreal etc Akuma, relax - I already said that regulars will get back in, whether they get the game or not. I wouldn't have banned Macon, but I just don't like people making veiled threats and I rarely give second chances. Someone disagrees with me, they send me private email. Anyone disrespect me in my frigging forum, and I don't care if they've been here since I first dreamt up the BC series, they're gone. In fact, folks disagree with me all the time, here in in the forum - you don't see me banning anybody. I think about it, and say yes or no and move on. When I don't want anything to be a discussion, I usually indicate that in my post. What puzzles me is how anyone could ***** so vehemently about a frigging registration form. Apart from the tech info, which *is* important, the other info is standard on the reg card for MOST games. Go look at one and you'll see. And the tech info is stuff that any game company would ask you for anyway, if you contacted them for tech support. All am doing is asking for it upfront. This frigging excercise is costing me a fortune. In fact, just today I had to fork out more money to upgrade to TestTrack web so that bug reports can be handled automatically via the web. The current version I have doesn't allow it. You find a bug, you fill out the form in your browser, and it goes directly to the database. It gets fixed, you get notified etc. Believe me, I'm dead serious about this stuff and I don't need people messing with me. I've got TOO much time, effort and MONEY into this project and I don't plan on losing a nickel of it.
  2. z-buffer driver issue. Nothing I can do about it. I don't experience it anymore, so they must have fixed it.
  3. heh, ok you guys, knock it off! Tac, get in here!!
  4. ...and I forgot to mention, and am serious about this: Flaming of newbies, no matter how stupid the question, WILL NOT BE TOLERATED. Anyone violating this, will be IMMEDIATELY banned. I swear it, no questions asked. Heck, if I do it, I'll even ban myself! No seriously, I mean it. If you want to have a text file ready someplace or a clipboard program, have a stock message ready and just post that instead. We CANNOT afford to alienate newbies this time around, now that BCM has a lot more non-hardcore features in place.
  5. For $2.50 less, I'd take the plunge to EB Besides, at $7, you're making more than I'm making.
  6. Well that explains that. I'm not into sports games. Anyway, here's my EB order list (hehe, it nice to know people ) Consoles 'n stuff: Xbox Xbox High Definition AV Pack Xbox DVD playback kit Xbox Memory Unit Gamecube Games: Halo Dead or Alive 3 Starwars Starfighter Airforce Delta Storm Starwars ObiWan Project Gotham Racing Starwars Rogue Leader:Rogue Squadron 2
  7. Anyway, Mike and I are working on a devlish plan to purge the forum or unwanted scumbags. You'll experience it soon enough. WHAT? you think we're going to actually post it so Shirley (LOL!!) can read it, do you?
  8. quote: Originally posted by Tac: Imo, read only access for those who have not registered with the game ID # may be a good solution. .. Well, there's one good idea.... but the problem is that UBB or any forum software, won't allow that. You register, you can post. You don't register, you can't post. And if the forum is read-only, how are you going to post? And if you don't post, how can someone else with read-only access, read? See the catch-22?
  9. LOL!! Mike, now you know what I got through when one coding bad idea doesn't work.
  10. OK Macon, great! You're banned and gone for good. see ya! I just love threats. Who's next? [ 10-02-2001: Message edited by: Supreme Cmdr ]
  11. My 0.02c? This pooling issue is a BAD idea. At any rate, flushing of innactive cmdrs should be the first priority. How we end up distributing the existing fleet members should be up to the FCs, not one unilateral decision. And if by the time the game ships you guys don't have your act in gear, I'll step in and do something...uhm, anything.
  12. LMAO!!! Someone must have laced Tac's Nutripak supply with something. Other than that, he's been sniffing Vacpaks again. Damn, that's funny. It should be an HTML page Tac!! quote: Join now, and get 5% off all hand held weapons at your local Galcom armory! LMAO!!!!!!! ah gawd that was funny. Know whats even funnier? I can see it happening too. [ 10-02-2001: Message edited by: Supreme Cmdr ]
  13. quote: Originally posted by DeSylva: [QB With all due respect, I don't think that's going to solve the problem. We can't force people to be members of a fleet they don't want to be. [/QB] We can't? Why the hell not? Someone forgot to send me that memo! quote: If you want my opinion, that's not a good idea. People chose a fleet because they liked that fleet. If, for example, I had to be transfered out of Orion for any reason, I'd be mad as hell, because I spent a lot of time integrating myself in the fleet, getting friendly with it's members and probably even practiced the developped tactics... and if I was to be transferred to ISS, I wouldn't like that because it's not my type of fleet. uhm, OK. Good point. I guess we can delete that decree then. Damnit, I hate it when I have to do that. Well, we'll see what happens to ISS, but am not going to disband it. quote: Sadly accurate numbers are not always so easy as sometimes members go out of town and lose contact for a month or so and cannot reply to any posts about ACTIVE MEMBERS POST HERE. The fleet DB has a mail broadcast feature. Why don't the FCs use it? [ 10-02-2001: Message edited by: Supreme Cmdr ]
  14. See what I mean? Its starting already Anyway, multiplayer will be supported over LAN and Internet. I am undecided whether to allow people to host their own servers and I am 75% certain that I won't allow it. If I do, then it would be via GameSpy Arcade And even if I do, gamer-hosted servers won't be persistent for a lot of reasons. Persistent meaning, once someone logs off, thats it, their stats and profile are deleted. The server itself can be persistent, since it will keep running as long as the server is up. Boot the server and the game will re-init from scratch. Over time, my own hosted servers (for the dev and fleets) will be persistent - in that the world and play stats will be saved in all cases, until I deliberately reset them. I hope this answers your questions.
  15. quote: Originally posted by Adrian Dune: OK, Wait a minute here... I think i just had a Major Realization....So, basically... it is possible to alter an entire planets topology with Random weapons??? If this is so.. I am awestruck... Also, I was wondering if/when the SC would make his BCM Wishlist Public, or at least on the new forum. Yes. You've been able to do that since the first BC title. As for the wishlist, NO way I'm making that public. You kidding me? One countdown is bad enough - because as sure as hell, these bastards (as you've already seen) CAN and WILL start another countdown. FWIW, my post-release wishlist of things I wish I could've done but didn't do, is already 19 items strong. No post-Gold bugs so far (at least not that I know of), and thats a good thing. There are still some quirks that I'm going to have to address at some point, while doing the wishlist items for sp and mp. Oh, and as you probably know, if you have a Voodoo card, don't even bother buying the game, unless you don't mind the rendering glitches you saw in the E1 and E2 demos. They CANNOT be fixed by me because they are driver related - and you already know the story to that one.
  16. Well, here it is : Guys, I tried BOTH the 7500 and 8500 last night. My synopsis is this : - If you like ATI's products and are willing to do what you're doing wrt dismal driver support, buy the 8500 and don't even **bother** with the 7500. - If you have an nVidia GF card, don't even THINK of switching. You can switch if you have ANY Matrox or Hercules Kyro card - without even thinking twice about it. - Yes, the drivers STILL suck and I found no less than FOUR problems with my render (not apparent in ANY other card - and I have over 9 cards here in various machines) in a space of fifteen mins after installing. I'm going to download the developer drivers later and see if they make a difference. I just couldn't be bothered to do that before, because the driver sent with the boards - SHOULD HAVE WORKED FIRST TIME OUT. And I tried this under WINME, WIN98SE, WIN2K, WINXP RC Thats a general synopsis. I'm not interested in benchmarks, I'm interested ONLY in **FUNCTIONALITY**. After awhile, the fps you get in games, reaches a critical mass where 5fps from one card to another, becomes IRRELEVANT. Even the brilliant visual clarity of both cards (on all my displays) is not enough to appease me because the drivers are STILL not good enough.
  17. quote: Originally posted by Macon De'Witt: SC respectfully this is your game and your forum so it's all up too you. That said when I am looking to buy a new game one of the first things I do is look at their forum. I tend to look at the tech suport forum first to see what kind of problems people are having with the software. Then I tend to scan over the other topics to see how involved the comunity is. (a lot of comunity invement means the gamers are happy even if there are bugs). All I as a consumer am looking for is read rights because as you pointed out if I didn't buy the game I don't have anything to say. The general discussion forum will be open but still require registration. If you want access to the tech support forum, buy the game. If you want to know before hand, go read a review or play the demo. I am under NO obligation to make my forum open to the public, and thats JUST NOT GOING TO HAPPEN. PERIOD. Regardless of the reasons. Hopefully, I have made myself clear and as such, don't have to repeat this again. Besides, if you don't already own a BC title you (not meaning you specifically) have no business being here I didn't develop the game for you. I have ZERO interest in newbies. If they come, fine. If they don't, thats still fine. If you buy the game and you don't like it, it serves you right. Next time, play a demo, read reviews, do the research. I have NO sympathy for ANYONE under these circumstances. NONE. So ANY sentiments in this regard, are LOST on me. 100% quote: Second thing is I do belive you when you say you wont be selling my product registration info to other people. I do fail to see how my profession among other details asked for are VITAL to tech support. Just my 2 cents and if the only thing I will be denied by not filling out the form is tech support I will hapily not complete the form Its simple, they are called demographic and profile info. I want to know who plays my game and why. Also, if I do a database query to see how many people have admin, ISP, MIS experience etc and then I see college students, unemployed, some kid in high school etc. Take a wild guess who I'm going to be contacting about issues such as security, community development, multiplayer server adminstration etc. The people you see here as moderators, admin etc. You think I picked them out of a hat or at a lottery? And, do you send email to other companies who ask the same questions on their reg cards? I thought not. If you are one of those who doesn't send in their reg cards, I've got news for you. If ANY of those fields is blank, here's what will happen: the form will be deleted you won't get into the site you most definitely will NOT get tech support (return the game if you can - see if I care). And what other fields, apart from that one, is not relevant or incomplete/inappropriate? The Sex field? Sorry, I forgot to tell Justin to add Transvestite to it. So, apart from these two fields, please tell me which one, in your opinion, is not relevant to tech support. Joking aside, don't you think I want to know how many female players the game has? In case you didn't know, we DO have several. quote: On a serious note, I think the reason for these questions is for market research purposes. This will give the indication of what type of people likes this game, what age group and so on. It is rather important to do this so they can make more quality products in the future. aw look, you got one up on me and explained it better than I did.
  18. see what I mean, folks? I just saw this on that VE thread, posted by Shirley aka Fabio. This is EXACTLY why I'm going to flush the database. I knew they were in here, but there is no way to know what alias he's using because he registered back when registration was not screened. quote: So poor little derek is so afraid of people reading all the complaints and problems people will have with BCM that he is going to try and shut out anybody who has not spent their money on BCM by making people register with their BCM number. Good move, we dont want the public seeing how many bugs it has, or how everybody has trouble getting it to work!!!
  19. LOL!! ------> $ILK. Now you know why am laying down the ground rules as of now. Once I sanction the opening of the Beta mp servers to Fleet members (only devs and Beta testers will have initial access), any fleet member can join a server. And if any FC lets a newbie in and the git disrupts the server, the FC will be disciplined. The public won't have access to the Beta servers. In fact, I'm closing fleet registration on 10/15. If you aren't already in a fleet, you're not getting in a fleet until after the server is open to the public. And the public servers will have some areas for newbie free-for-all. Let them go disrupt those servers. In fact, I'm going to put in a feature which an admin can use to hyperjump a newbie or other disruptor to a section of space, away from the main pathways. e.g. you could banish a newbie from Sol, all the way LV-103 I'll probably create a pocket universe and link it to a timed jump gate. This way, you can drop a newbie in there (similar to kicking) and he won't be able to jump out of it until the time runs out. Something like that. Of course, its best to just kick him off the server completely in order to save the bandwidth. As for fleet members, they don't have to be around all the time. As long as they acknowledge that they are still alive and kicking (i.e respond to the role call), thats fine. No need to boot them. Some people have real lives (gee, what a concept) I think.
  20. quote: T for teen. Teen doesn't start at 15, but 13... (Ahhh boy, I'm good at math *pats self on back*) Yeah, T = Teen = FIFteen Don't ask. ESRB have a warped sense of humor quote: Also, by serial # I'm supposing it's on the cd case and will also be used to register the product and get past safedisc? No! Siddown!
  21. quote: Originally posted by Epsilon 5: What does someone under 15 years of age? They should'nt own a copy of the game. Its rated T. Or, they could just lie I suppose quote: And I think there should be something between "newbie" and "advanced" in the bc experience box. No! Siddown! quote: If someone have less than 8.0 dx? (hey, if this is for tech support, then that could be an issue...) I hope that person would be you. So I get to lock you out of the site for at least a week. Why? Because you SHOULD know better! Everyone, even complete and utter gits, knows by now that only DX8 or higher is supported. Which is why your excerpt sounds ludicrous. [ 10-01-2001: Message edited by: Supreme Cmdr ]
  22. Justin just finished the product registration page. Check it out. And if any of you bastards enter anything in there, I'll know from the IP address. Then you'll be hearing from me. ...you don't want to hear from me.
  23. quote: Originally posted by Paddy Gregory: Hehe, that reminds me of the story where British Aerospace (I think) were testing cockpit windscreens against bird impact for Boeing. The standard protocol was to fire a chicken carcass from a cannon at certain velocities. The first tests were a little worrying, because even at relatively low speeds the carcass was smashing the windscreen, destroying the pilot's seat and imbedding itself in the bulkhead at the rear of the cockpit. When the concerned engineers related these results to Boeing, the reply was: 'DEFROST THE CHICKEN FIRST' I'm not sure if the details or the story itself are entirely correct, but it's bloody funny. ROTFLMNAO!!!! Damn thats funny.
  24. HA!!! so much for a humorous thread. Now I've I read about planes than I ever did back when I actually took flying lessons. (not, it was in the UK, not in Florida, yer git) Man, this is nothing but a hijaaked thread!!! LOL!!
  25. ROTFL!!! ----->$ILK damn that was funny
