  1. HA HA HA HA HA!!! Thank you all! I downloaded the stuff SC pointed me too, and BCM works now. Must have been the VIA 4 in 1 drivers! Whatever the case, it works! Thanks for all of your time and effort of putting up with my ignorance.
  2. Ok, I got all the info I could and put it in my system profile. I'm using WIN XP Home, and all of the previous info about my problem still applies. Also, I tried running it just a few minutes ago and watched the progress of the startup via viewing the "system processes" tab via ctrl+alt+del during the attempted start of the game. The CPU usage by BCM goes up to about 60-70%, then the BCM line disappears and nothing replaces it. I have absolutely no idea what could be causing the load screen to just disappear and for their to be no desktop (the screen before the opening animation/movie disppears to desktop). If anyone else has had a similar problem and is able to advise me on how to fix it, I would deeply appreciate it. (short of reformatting my HDs and reinstalling everything (i'm likely to forget a driver for something during the reformat)
  3. quote:Originally posted by Supreme Cmdr: Nothing to do with BCM. Check your system drivers Also, WHY are you using UNSUPPORTED commandline parameters with BCM - AND - when you are trying to troubleshoot your system? Thanks for responding SC. I don't normally use the command line parameters. I was using the parameters while troubleshooting in case the only problem with the start-up was the opening animation or the start-up resolution. I also used the normal start up procedure with no parameters each time. Do you have any suggestions for what drivers I should check? I already did the video, audio, and CD drivers all to XP versions, and BCM worked fine with Win ME. Your system profile info data is worthless. You do not know what type of mobo you have nor do you know what type of BIOS or version you are running. Which version of XP are you running; Home or Pro? What do you mean by this: videocard driver version: Newest soundcard driver version: Newest Newest don't mean squat wrt to ATI and Creative products. ATI beta drivers are crap. You should be running the 6.13.10.6015 XP drivers. So pull you head out from the darkside and provide some relevant and accurate information wrt your System Profile Info. Then mayhaps ye will get some relevant assistance with your current SNAFU. TTFN [ 02-17-2002, 23:31: Message edited by: Gallion ]
  4. Ok, after noticing that Win XP is going to be the recommened OS for future versions of BC, I got it and upgraded. Now BCM won't work. I don't believe this is a BUG, per se, since others are running XP just fine. When I start BCM (tried 3 ways each time: with no command paramaters, with the -n command parameter, and with the -w2 command parameter), it shows, in the startup window, the screen that appears on the box, that screen disappears, and nothing happens. No freezes, no error messages, just the Battlecruiser Millenium picture disappears, and nothing happens. I updated my system profile, downloaded and installed current XP sound and video drivers, and tried again, same result. I then uninstalled BCM, reinstalled it, tried to start w/o any patches. Still didn't work, but instead of the window having the same picture that was on the box, it said SAFEDISC. Uninstalled it, reinstalled it again, patched it to current version (1.0.0.5). Again, nothing happened except the window/picture was Battlecruiser Millenium, with the picture from the box, which promptly disappeared, and nothing happened. Any help you could give would be GREATLY appreciated. BCM worked fine before I upgraded to XP, and now it refuses to. I also tried installing it from BOTH my DVD drive and my CD-R drive, and neither worked. [ 02-17-2002, 18:33: Message edited by: Dredd ]
  5. That show rocks.
  6. nonsensical garbage deleted wtf is the matter with you?!? If you can't frigging quote right, DON'T frigging post. There is a REASON that Preview Post button is there! [ 02-11-2002, 10:19: Message edited by: Supreme Cmdr ]
  7. I think it should be locked into using 1.0.0.5. That way if there is one released when someone is at all 99 AI, they don't need to restart when they obviously won.
  8. One solution to the Saved Game restore/resume config issue (if the problem you have is it will be on the load screen and NOT render your cockpit). Turn OFF all graphic options and sound, and lower the resolution to 640x480, then try to load the game. Fly around awhile (maybe out of the area you were in), and save again. Then turn up the options again to what you desired and restore. It worked for me, hopefully it'll work for you. P.S. It only worked for me when I was NOT using the -w2 command line.
  9. My AE almost has 100 AI. He can dodge bullets. (does the Matrix move of running on the walls of his bridge and kicks the intruder in the face as the intruder shoots out all of the bridge systems trying to hit him) Me: "Oh shoot, he got the engine controls" COMPUTER: "Planetary impact in 10 seconds" Me: Damn intruders. *BOOM*
  10. Capturing stations is EASY if you know how to do it, and i'm pretty sure you get more EXP for capturing than for destroying (and you get FC&C for captured) Increasing the hull integrity or armor integrity for capturing would make capturing them INSANELY easy. Also, has anyone tried to capture a station by destroying all ships trying to dock with it? I remember hearing you can get it to emit a SOS at full power if it is blockaded. The game is never "balanced" by things that may be edited with the game through the SC. There will always be someone who finds the game easy, and someone who finds it hard. A prime example is capturing stations. I have a 100% success rate in my station capture attempts now because I learned how to do it. Many people find it difficult. I find it sort of difficult to attack planetary bases w/o OTS missiles, many find it easy and are experts at it. By making station capture fundamentally harder, it will only be making the better players happy, and the ones who are just learning will just get frustrated quickly. We can easily make the game harder ourselves by not using the exploits. I mean, think about it. If a suggestion for improvement is making stations detect cloaked ships, just DONT CLOAK. It's the same exact result. The BC World is a world, and your to do what you want in it. If you want it to be difficult to take over a station, make it difficult yourself. Leave MP balance issues to the MP testers. If stations die too quickly, lower your IOD to 10-20%. The VCF says that stations are going to have more powerful turrets anyway, so for all of you that want to try to take em without cloaking, you can do it now with a danger of dying. In the end, the SC made the game and made the world, and now it's our choice how to play in it.
  11. Ok, we are assuming that making them hard to beat is a good idea. What exactly is the benefit of making it so that you need FC&C to beat a station (as some people stated, having a fleet is a good difficulty for stations). There are still plenty of ways of getting killed in the game besides stations, and not everyone is going to be: 1. Smart enough or 2. Have enough money To fund cloaking for destroying or taking over stations. Also, the only notable benefit to attacking stations is if you can CAPTURE them, which many people have expressed difficulty in doing. Finally, if you want station attacks to be more difficult, make it more difficult yourself. I don't really see why the SC should have to take time to make station capture fundamentally more difficult (unless it's currently planned for MP or XP1), when we can do it ourselves. Make rules for yourself that you have to destroy the ODS system around a planet and disable the supply depot before attacking a station. Or make a self-made rule that you can not cloak when near stations. I'm sure that the beta testers will find any balance issues in the MP beta version, and making stations weak seems to be better for multiplayer so people actually have to FIGHT as opposed to hiding all the time.
  12. Far enough that you all can give up. :-)
  13. Heh, Gammulan stations are so much better built and defended than Earth's stupid stations. (captured Galcom HQ, Genesis, and Empirian stations between Erindi and Sol)
  14. The only good game for Linux: Terminus Surprisingly, it works on all 3 platforms. Linux, Mac, and Windows. DOWN WITH LINUX GAMES! LONG LIVE WINDOWS! RESISTANCE IS FUTILE!
  15. RANDOMing Earth will probably get me so much XP i'll be a Supreme Commander instantly.
  16. Down with Linux! Long live Windows! HORRAH!
  17. I captured every anti-Gammulan station from Erindi to Earth with no (hull) damage. Sometimes cloaking, sometimes not. Always taking less than 10 minutes, time dependent on how many of those fighters launched at me I destroy. I think that it should stay that way though. As someone else said, in multiplayer it'll be a good reason to NOT stay docked at stations. (although the amount of time it takes to sell mined minerals may make a lot of people get killed) Another thing, didnt the SC say at some point (sorry if i'm wrong), that people will be able to man station turrets/guns? (not sure if it was BCO or BCM or my imagination)
  18. Ok, I really hope it wasn't already addressed, and if it was, I apologize: I'm assuming that I should be able to target any */HAZ objects in my area through the far left CVD under HAZARDS. I see a /HAZ Asteroid near the Moon in TACOPS, but then when I go back to the bridge, with my CC near the moon, it doesnt show up on any targetting menus when I try to select it.
  19. I don't think that component damage even applies for PC ships. I took a FC out, shot my CC's engines once, and I lost by fore laser turret and bridgeviewer. :-)
  20. Every station hostile to Gammulan Military ships in a straight path between Erindi and Earth have been captured, including but not limited to New America, Galacom HQ, Orion Station, and Genesis. All artifacts have been bought and/or installed, multiple Empirian Stormcarriers, Megarons, and Violins have been destroyed. All ODS in Earth and Moon have been destroyed. All missile silos loaded with Questors and Ralix missiles. Over 10 million credits extra are in my possession. Over 1000 Plutonium and Radine on board, and over 200 iridium. Ship has enough power to cloak for about 30 minutes, be shielded for over a few hours, maybe a day, and enough radine to stay powered for multiple years. All systems for all craft at 100%. Only damage incurred throughout my entire mission so far has been to OC1 which must have been damaged VERY LIGHTLY in an intruder battle. Ships from Generis and GALCOM HQ are now escorting me. Crew is currently doing research on the RANDOM in order to gain 100 AI to destroy the Moon and Earth. Rank is Strategic Commander with FC&C. Long live the Gammulan Empire!
  21. I just destroyed all space based defenses in orbit around Earth and it's moon, and captured both stations, achieving the rank of Strategic Commander and FC&C. RANDOM on Board, decoder on board. All I need now is the AI and it's bye-bye Earth. HA HA HA HA HA!
  22. CTAS? Is that area accurate damaging? Just an added point, I just lowered my shields, got in a FC, and shot one 100% blast into my engine. I ended up losing my fore laser turret and bridgeviewer, among other systems. Interesting. [ 02-07-2002, 23:07: Message edited by: Dredd ]
  23. Ok, I underrstand that after knocking down an enemy ship's hull integrity/armor REALLY low, they will show up as disabled and/or emit an SOS. Now, what i'm trying to figure out, is why is it that it's impossible to disable an enemy ship's weapons and/or engines specifically. I take my phased array IOD or the normal one and target SPECIFICALLY other ships engines or weapon area (where their shots are coming from), and they show NO performance loss, while on the other hand when I am directly damaged in a weapon bay/engine area, I lose engines or weapons and have an actual performace drop in BC functionality. Any advice?
  24. Mining the planet near Erindi in order to buy all artifacts while training my crew for a strike on Galcom HQ and Earth with a RANDOM. Halfway there. My crew is getting smart, even that Combat Officer guy. Already captured New America for the Gammulan Empire (although I only got 300 XP for it) Death to the Terrans! *This was brought to you by the Death to Terrans Fan Club* (Gets back to helping his officers learn what a R...A...N...D...O...M is)
  25. Yeah, the stupidest move from all of it was the woman leaving after the fight. You might go to different rooms in the house to cool off, but it's STUPID to fight and then leave the building. Work out your marital problems, don't run from them. (unless the man became physically hostile, of course)
