Into The Fire Act Five - Operation Golgotha
Charles Lindsey replied to Blades's topic in Role Playing Discussions
Hope I fixed it. Here goes. Do as you can Blades. Others allowed to volunteer. [rp] Slightly before Blade's briefing. Gallion pointed to a chair and Chavik took a seat. He listened to Gallion's idea and shook his head more and more. There were far too many holes in it. Beaming down wouldn't work as there would be an immediate search for the transporting vessel. Shuttling down was even worse. If they used one of the McKendrick's shuttles that would immediately indentify which ship was in the area. An area it was not supposed to be in at all and that would raise suspisicions as well. Hell, that would raise an all out alarm. If they used one of Chavik's shuttles that would raise almost as many suspicions. Then there was the matter of who would masquerade as the capturing officer. Chavik was out of the question so it would have to be a marine. But for Gallion to "give himself up" was ludicrous in the extreme. No, it simply wouldn't work. Gallion slowly tapered off as Chavik shook his head. Chavik handed him the datapad and let Gallion begin reading on a different subject matter. Gallion nodded at several items and whistled at others. He looked up and said, "You do realize that half this stuff be useless do ye not?" "I know," replied Chavik. "I was trying to prepare for several contingencies." "That ye did, that ye did," Gallion commented. "What be this?" asked Gallion as he pointed to the stealth suit listing. "My trump card, one of Akira's special toys we have been working on. I believe you saw them in the early stages before several flaws were worked out. Allow me to demonstrate," said Chavik as he switched the unit on. Gallion paled as Chavik faded from view. He jumped up and shouted, "I knew it! I absofrickingly knew it!! Does ye know how long I has been trying to figure that out? How long that has haunted me? " Gallion slumped back into the chair. "You be bringing back the ghosts." "No, not ghosts Gallion; Spectres. Very much like Wraiths in their ability to fade from view." "So the Deer has found a new place to hide." Chavik de-activated the suit, "No, just a different method. We all have ways to hide Corsair. And yes, places, I suppose. I wonder what else we are hiding?" Gallion remained silent. Chavik knew there was something else but decided to let the question drop for a while. As they discussed things a while longer Gallion slowly beat around the bush until Chavik was sure his suspicions had been correct. The old Corsair was wily that was for sure. Chavik outlined his plan to Gallion who nodded agreeingly. The stealth suits added a major amount of secrey to the operation and Gallion thought they just might have a chance even with the limited number of suits available. He added several suggestions to which Chavik agreed. Chavik then beat around the bush a bit. "So ye think?" Gallion asked. "For a while at least," replied Chavik. Gallion nodded and began to discuss once again. A double back up plan began to emerge. Almost as hairbrained as Gallion "giving himself up" but ingenious for its shock value. The Wraith could become a Banshee if needed. Finally they ran out of things to talk about and both of them stood up. "Ready to set sail pirate?" asked Chavik. "As soon as you get to the harbor." During Briefing: Chavik found himself seated next to Gallion. Should anything strange come up he wanted to consult with him. Blades began his discourse. He showed the layout of the base and outlined the plan. Gallion reminded Chavik just how easy this mission would be then said to him, "Just remember what we talked about in the library. My offer stands." Blades finished and Gallion threw a question at him. Blades did not answer and watched as Gallion left. After briefing: Chavik had some doubts about Gallion but the old man trusted him. And he did seem sincere though that sgt seemed about to have a fit. Chavik himself just shook his head and wandered towards the medibay. Chavik arrived in the medibay only to find several marines and even a few of the remaining mercs waiting. He had not expected this. After explaining the situation most still wanted to volunteer. Far more than there were suits for. Far more than was advisable for a small strike team. After several minutes of interviews things began to get nasty. The mercs began insulting the McKendrick's marine and vice versa. Chavik finally managed to get them calmed down. He went to a commlink and signalled Blades. "Uhhh Blades, we got a problem. We don't have enough toys for the people who want to play. Could I have a hand down here?" [/rp] Ok last chance to actively voluunteer for team two. I wrote around the briefing best I could. There is still time to write around this faux paus if you really want to be on it. So far I see Myself, Foss, Gallion, and three NPC's. Liev's android would be a great addition though Otherwise it will be we 3 and some NPC's (merc's/marines) that blades will hopefully take a few sentences to assign. -

Respectfully request enlistment into your fleet

Who wants a new member?
Charles Lindsey replied to Menchise's topic in General Multiplayer Fleet Discussions
They know. Why you think they attacking each other and not you? Gallion is correct. Read the introduction to the manual. The history and such. No single faction has a spotless reputation. You WILL have to make your own decision as to who are the "good guys". -
Yahoo isn't to bad with that little box you can shrink. Haven't been to a geocities site is a while. Were they swallowed by Yahoo ? Crosswinds, hmmmm. Saw one guy complain about Desylva's site but I don't find it that bad. Then again I am on AOL. I also have IE enabled. It's so funny. The pop up uses IE so I can kill it before the program finishes loading. LOL!, SOMEtimes you just gotta love it.

I like the new look of the forum. I like the yellow forum titles. Matches the light bulbs almost when they are lit. Organized slightly differently than before but it makes sense and is well laid out. All in all a very good look.

BC3000AD HELP!!!!!
Charles Lindsey replied to Pedro Pablo Laracuente's topic in Battlecruiser 3000AD (Legacy)
Are you trying to run the software or 3DFX mode shortcut? Did it detect your video card? Go read the thread titled "Desparately need assistance" for issues on available free memory. -
quote:I don't know how this person got the coordinates you did say it could be found. Sorry to hear about your work getting deleted.

I thought you had posted that you registered? That's a shame. Sorry to hear about that.

Astronomy you can do with a web cam. Amazing. It really is.

Fix for 3DFX (free version not loading)
Charles Lindsey replied to a topic in Battlecruiser 3000AD (Legacy)
Now try the 2.09 version and look at the differences. -
Nova, I am trying to define what you independents want/need. Don't give up now.
-
I desperatly need assistance!

Complete file is at http://members.aol.com/chavik/memmake2.zip You may download the complete file with all additional files included The additional files you need to add are at http://members.aol.com/chavik/memneed.zip if you only want to download those. I added chkstate.sys and sizer.exe . Hope that completes the file. -
asset type: Yes I see that now. I double checked last night. Invitation only: That's just the approval process. Checking valid email and all that. Got one guy been registering with variations on a humans nether region and the products it produces. Needless to say he won't be invited. Those who are approved will be able to play on bc servers. Including you guys if I understand things correctly. Fleet Leader: Have no idea why it says that. That page he is "fleet leader" but if you dig down to the police page he is Admin status. That's all you need is an Admin status or really just fleet leader status. Even though you guys don't have a fleet or a fleet leader that is the level of security your rep would need. That's what I was getting at before. If he won't answer emails perhaps he has gotten busy like a lot of us are and no longer has time to update the database. So anyway, state again what you want. What I see is this. Someone who can assign the assets you choose. This will most likely be a board rep. Plus the same rules that fleets have will apply to you. Once you choose an asset it will be locked. Possibly someone who will write a fleet bulletin explaining who the independents are and what ya'll do. Aramike is one of the named moderators of this forum. Maybe he will have an idea as well. Launch base: Yeah guess you would need one of those. Mission zone: Maybe. Since you are independent you wouldn't have a mission zone if in space. You can do what you want. Just leave it blank. Anything else? [ 07-20-2001: Message edited by: Charles Lindsey ]

Ok, so you guys want a board representative with fleet leader type control of the fleet database. Fair request in my opinion. In the meantime Mike can or I can adjust things. Thomas Siemens or LordDavid can. Any CAT member should be able to do it or any fleet leader. Double check the assets page and all that. Maybe it is time to go back up to fleet Related discussions. Maybe General. Who'd a thunk? An Indie rights thread. Hehe, sorry can't help it. I can just see all of you demonstrating out in front of the UFN building. I do want to help though.

Wayyy too funny Tac. The guy has some insight.

That was a good search Nova. Now if you could just find the one where Derek said what UCV groups would be called. First a gripe. If you are going to post into two forums please make your posts identical. Some variances allowed for the specific forum of course. Or at Least reference the other thread in each. I am talking about where you mention in the "other" thread wanting to choose your asset at will. That was the other post but your questions are answered right here in your own quotes. The fleet database page is supposed to be used for multiplay. It will collect stats on the profile you provided while you play on an SFA server. The assets you want to select are the ones you chose when you signed up for the fleet database. You are stuck with them. Hopefully question answered and gripe over. quote:There IS supposedly a rank of "Fleet Leader" in the Fleet DB Unfortunately the fleet database has the same format for each page. Please don't be confused by this. You just need someone in authority. What are you asking here? You went directly to a quote. snip old quote new question quoted quote:, I'm wondering if the information is still good. I'm also curious as to how a UCV would actually get in, because we would need a "Fleet Commander" to select our assets, and such. The info is gold until Derek changes his mind. As for assets read above. You are stuck with what you chose. quote:If anything is to happen here, we need an active member to lead us. What do you an active member for? What do you want to happen?

It wasn't the hspace it was the cellspace. But I set it all to zero. That's as close as things are going to get. What aggravates things is that the tip of the "F" swoops up to the right. The middle bar is inset a great deal and the bottom left curly que goes way to the left. From the upper right tip to the bottom left tip (travelling through the image) is about 45 degree angle. Then the "l" has a tip that goes to the left which makes the main body of the l appear further to the right. All of that makes a noticeable space between the middle bar of the "F" to the vertical bar of the "l". (pant, pant) Anyway, I got things as close as I could and began experimenting with fonts. I used the drop down list of fonts for the program. I used Georgia font next. things are a little fatter and looks a bit better than Times New Roman. Times New Roman follows Georgia in that choice so I'm guessing if you don't have Georgia it will default back to TNR. http://members.aol.com/chavik/balor/fleet8.html has the fatter Georgia font. fleet7 has TNR with the spacing fixed and fleet3 is TNR without spacing fixed. I appreciate all of your suggestions and help. [ 07-15-2001: Message edited by: Charles Lindsey ]

Hmmm, they work here. try again, maybe you or aol had a hiccup. Or just catch me on icq and I'll send you a copy. Yes Shohashi the hippie admiral is gone. Cut my hair, threw away my tie-dye shirts, got rid of my love beads and bandanas, and decided to be an upstanding citizen. Or at least look like one.

Darn, I couldn't find Rattler's bar and grill last time I was there. That was where I remember pics being posted. Mine was there. Anyway, the page my (old) pic is at http://members.aol.com/clind10107/index.html The direct link to my pic should be http://members.aol.com/clind10107/chaz3.jpg I really need a new pic. The beard and moustache are gone and the long hair is now short. I have two pics of sygan. One is taken straight from the game. The one Derek posted a good while back when he posted BCM content now sanction for use. It's the same one you see when you choose sygan as your launch base in the demo. The other Commander Antilles (Eclipse) did for me. (Thanks Eclipse) he went into the game and snagged a pic and made it web freindly. The small one I did is at http://members.aol.com/chavik/balor/fleet3.html and the large one Eclipse did is at http://members.aol.com/chavik/balor/fleet7.html I have no idea about Spectre and Eversor logos. I do know that I had previously mentioned the Ins logo outline "looking" like a coffin. It went over like a lead bomb. Cricket, cricket, cricket...silence; no response. I thought it was funny. It still is. I thought since I had already mentioned it you were joking. Spin it as you will. Live/die (coffin) by sword. Willing to die for our cause. Best thing let it drop before savage and crew pick up on it and add that reference to bunnies. Need anything else let me know. [ 07-15-2001: Message edited by: Charles Lindsey ]

Geez, he's starting a movement. Now we finally know what he does when he's not posting here. Garden Gnomes Gather in Shadowy Operation Reuters STRASBOURG, France (July 12) - More than 100 garden gnomes and other gaudy statues were discovered on Wednesday assembled on a traffic circle in eastern France, a police spokesman said. Some of the statues were set up to spell out ''Free the Gnomes.'' No one claimed immediate responsibility for the stunt, but police said it bore all the hallmarks of the shadowy Garden Gnome Liberation Front. The kitsch little creatures were reported stolen from numerous gardens around the town of Chavelot overnight and subsequently gathered together on the roundabout. ''It was a bit like a giant creche. Everything had been carefully set up,'' a police spokesman said. The Gnome Liberation Front rose to prominence in the mid- 1990s following a series of raids on gardens to ''free'' gnomes and ''return them to the wild.'' The group suffered a setback in 1997 when a court handed its ringleader a suspended prison sentence and fined him for his part in the disappearance of some 150 gnomes. After briefly going to ground, the Front hit the headlines again in 1998 when it staged a mass ''suicide'' of gnomes in eastern France. Last year, the group struck Paris, stealing around 20 gnomes during a night raid on a Paris garden exhibition. Reuters 06:15 07-12-01

Thanks Harlocke for enjoying my view on the Enterprise. As to the rest: "When I mentioned Dr.Who I was simply trying to relay that imagery is not everything." It got buried a bit but I did reply that it's about how you tell your story. "you must have not watched enough DS9" Watched up until Odo found his home planet and maybe a bit after. Was that enough? Dunno. "I take it you hated Babylon 5 as well." Never said I hated anything. I loved Babylon 5. Good beleivable aliens, good tech, good plots with lots of scheming, good actors. I try to watch Earth: Final Conflict but most often miss it. Don't get very good reception either. Now I don't even see it in the local listings. But the few times I saw it it was interesting. "And why must the cast meet 200+ alien species to make it a good trek?" They don't. But when they do its interesting. Next week they are going to show the 2 hour one where the Horogen (sp?) are using the holograms as hunting targets. If that isn't a discussion on minority rights or human rights in general I don't know what is. "Did you miss the real points Rodenberry was making?" Must be missing the ones you are seeing. Please explain. I see exploration, expansion of knowledge, a better future, resolving differences through diplomacy. Stuff like that. DS9: didn't like much. Voyager: Loved it. We'll just have to politely disagree on this one.

Ok Tac, It's all subjective. You think it looks more modern. I don't I'll tell you why. First one thing out the way. I'm a fan. I'm not a Trekkie or a Trekker (I read somewhere that's what the most diehard fans prefer). Just a fan. So if you go pulling techno books on me I'll get lost. Ok the Enterprise from the first show (notice I didn't say first Enterprise ) looked good back when I watched re runs as a child. It had the nowtrademark "saucer" , a pregnant underbelly, cylindrical (sp?) nacelles, and super straight struts supporting them. Oh, and the hull was stark white. Now fast forward to the Next Generation and Voyager. Ships from this "era" are a very muted white almost grey. Better hull technology? I'd like to think so. The "saucers" are very rounded and the supporting struts for the nacelles are very "swoopy". Now, back-track to the present "former" Enterpise. It's a silver bronze color to differentiate it from "modern" ships. At least I think so and I think that is what they are trying to do. Plus the ship is very angular. Yes the "saucer" looks pretty modern from the pic but I attribute that to today's better graphics technology. I don't think the new/first Enterprise looks more modern. I think it is a good compromise between the original show and today's better graphics tech. "It Looks like an Akira class" So? Star Trek has made a trademark of the "saucer" and the nacelles. So this Enterprise looks like a class of ship in the more modern Trek universe. No one has stopped to forgive the show a little and pretend that that particular class of ship may have had a unique configuration that worked well in that size ship. Who is to say that this "First" Enterprise isn't the forerunner of that particular class of ship? That's my rant on the Enterprise. I think it's ok and if you forgive the modern graphics you can beleive it looks "older". I still like that ancient Klingon cruiser from Voyager though. That was nice and a total shock. I watched the Interview with Scott Bakula. The unifrom was very muted. The bridge looked very muted. It was all greys. None if this modern blue yellow green color scheme. I think it will work. Klingons did genetic engineering? BAH. Better makeup. I can live with that. Hope that explains some of it Tac. ____________________________________ Harlocke Dr. Who. It was campy because it was supposed to be campy. I don't think Enterprise is going for this. It is not about story telling but how you tell your story. quote:This show could very well be the best trek ever reserving judgement quote:...it will all depend upon the writing and the execution of that writing. agreed. quote:Frankly I thought that Voyager was a slap in the face of rodenberry as the show tackled nothing and believed in nothing. I think quite differently. DS9 was nothing but Cheers in Space. It did not explore. It did not seek. It settled into politics, who controlled what. It sought to maintain the status quo. Same people , same place, throw in some politics. "Cheers" in space. Plain and simple. Voyager, in my view, did go back to the original premise of Star Trek. Exploration. Yeah they reversed it and that was neat. Voyager explored on the way home. Way too cool. DS9: "Cheers" in space. Voyager: Original Star Trek, somewhat reversed.
