  1. quote:How much is too much? (ie: how many is too many) The premise is that you will be able to cooperate in BCM. So if You (Shingen), Outlaw, and Nova decided to band together, play online together, create a gif, and use it when posting that would be cool. Another group of guys would do the same. I can foresee many (however many different, consistent groups there are) different gifs being used. Just so long as every indie doesn't create his own gif I think all is cool. quote:Are we limited to one 'indie guild' (with one logo) or are we able to build a few. (I don't want a whole lots of different 'sects' floating around, each with thier own logos, but I don't want to be limited to just one guild/logo for indies...(unless it's really kewl!)) No you are not limited to one "indie guild". In fact, that's what I am stating what I feel would almost be considered a fleet. You guys are supposed to be diverse. You should have several "sects" floating around. So if several of you play together regularly then you should post under one "sect" name and use the same gif. Talk to Tac. He has played in several online WWII combat flights sims from what I read and he would probably have some good advice about such "sects" . Now who has the minutes from the last meeting? The indie guys were going to be called something. Sect isn't quite right but I forget. Anyone have that info off the top of their head?
  2. No one is Anti-indie. I only said if it's a unified gif it's approaching a fleet. But if there are several then that changes everything. We are just trying to make sure you follow the rules. And yes they can change with time. You got your insignias. Just keep them small like the galcom logo or Andergum's Insurgent logo. So far as a hang out why not try the galcom channel on IRC for now?
  3. The indie hangout would be the chat channel on the BCM/GCO server. Anything else verges on forming a fleet. You may have individual alliances while playing the game but for a scientist, police, merc, and/or assasin to hang out at one station is not possible. Each caste is nuetral to different stations depending on that station's caste.
  4. Sorry Shingen. Gallion already has a skull and crossbones. You have your work cut out for you. If you want a unified gif you become a fleet. Guess what? Not possible with "indies".
  5. Thank you mike. You did something I have been wanting to point out for three days now. You politely described the differences and why you think they wouldn't work. You even admitted that socialism would be great if it would work. Very fair debate in my opinion. I enjoy debating with someone who will acknowledge my points then try to disprove them or just still have his own opinion. Small blurb I saw on discovery. Some bald eagles won't fly unless there are winds to help them take off. Laziness is not just human nature. That statemnet doesn't do a whole lot for either argument but there it is.
  6. Back to the Space Station news. Turns out our guests was a former rocket scientist/NASA engineer before he went into investment banking and became rich. So he's not the average rich scmuck wanting a joy ride. He knows whats going on and probably a lot of the protocols. They got some three computers going and they are sharing one hard drive. They will be taking the broken parts back for repair. All info paraphrased from Reuters Unlimited news as posted on AOL.
  7. quote:in your opinion which fleet should I join What do you want to do? Every fleet has an area that you may feel is your specialty or something you would like training in. You have to decide. One of the decisions is whether you want to be a good guy or a bad guy. The next decision is figuring out exactly who is the bad guy. The UFN is the Earth's Government so supposedly the good guys. Galcom is the military branch so are also the good guys. Insurgents are the break off/ dissident so they are supposedly the bad guys. But when Derek wrote the history in the manual he threw enough dirt on everyone to make you think. The decision is yours.
  8. quote:Within the next hour, I want those two tracked down and thrown in the bridge Interesting place of confinement. I'm sure I'll be thrilled to wake up in your presence. But after knocking me out you claim I am still wandering the halls. Make up your mind. I went with the knockout since it was the RP. [rp] Z'ed had long since climbed into the cockpit of the T-2 shuttle and had been watching the proceedings. Things had been boring the first part of the trip but had quickly picked up with the entrance of the Gammulan cruiser. The shuttle had lost Chavik's signature twice. Once while he was aboard that transport and the second time now that it was destroyed. Z'ed feared for the worst. He was intently searching thru the CVD trying to find a signature. The flight path was still assigned to Chavik but Chavik was not in evidence. Z'ed inititated tacops and began another searched. This proved as fruitless as the first Z'ed got down on the floor and opened the access panels. With a few re reouted cables he boosted the power to the scanners significantly. He got back up and checked the scanner again. He thought he saw something for a moment and began tuning the scanner. On board the McKendrick Chavik finally stowed his gear and started thinking. He seemed to be doing a lot of that lately. He hoped he would finally find someone in charge. Whether it be Blades, Rattler, or that crazy Corsair. He got up to start making his way towards the bridge when he noticed something was wrong. The "escorts" were just a little too alert and speaking to each other in quiet tones with sidelong glances at each other. Suddenly the quarters were flooded with gas. Trying to contact Rattler; Chavik only had time to activate his personal commlink before passing out. On board the T-2 shuttle Z'ed was still searching Tacops. He wasn't having much luck. He sat back stumped. Suddenly he had an idea. He had been all over those shuttles in the junkyard and knew every system on them. Thinking furiously he went to the main computer and opened a channel to the two T-1 shuttles he knew to still be in the loose formation they had been able to keep. Using an extra two sets of scanners and the augmented power of his own he started to get a reading. As if in answer to a question the signal solidfied with amazing clarity. The shuttles had lost a lot of ground. So much so that they when they got a confirmed lock they whipped around and initiated a jump. Z'ed grew worried. He had managed to proceed but what was he proceeding into? Perhaps he should have just run with the shuttles. No that wouldn't do. Chavik was the only one to have shown any sort of interest or compassion to him. Besides, he thought, I'm getting my damn skimmer back. [/rp] Zelons are greedy after all. hehe. There you go. I know you don't like jumps in your stories but they are part of the game and part of the RP universe to me. It would be quite dramatic if the poor things jumped just off your port bow. But if you simply want them to gain on you I can live with that. The character Blades really is a dumb bloke if he thinks Chavik is up to something after inviting him. Chavik is loyal to Rattler who is helping Blades (and himself) for now. You have a domino effect of loyalty going at the moment. Anyway, Use the shuttles as you will. They are stock with missiles of varying types, a stowaway, and three skimmers. Use me as you will and speak for me if necessary.
  9. Nova; I did get transported to the McKendrick along with the others. Just the shuttles are having a bit of trouble keeping a lock on me with all the recent trouble. They are the ones lagging behind. Blades; just bringing along a few presents for you. I thought we discussed via ICQ a good while back that the McKEndrick would discover the presence of the shuttles. But I can do that. Or help or something. Will post tomorrow. Got an invite to dinner tonight. Never pass up a free meal. Akuma; next time don't tie the knots so tight.
  10. I was being a tad sarcastic but: 1. Why try to fool that many people? And how? If we are still referring to the show it claimed we didn't have the tech to get there. But we had the tech to fool that many engineers? 2. Why just orbit and come back down? I feel that disproves #1 in the first place. If they went up those engineers had to be doing something. I'm sure everyone has seen pics of the splashdown. How long did they stay up BTW? Do you think they went up and stayed X amount of time in that tiny thing then came back down? Nah. http://science.nasa.gov/headlines/y2001/as...2.htm?list15304 . There is one of NASA's pages on this. I didn't see the show but several people said they did have convincing arguments. I can also convince you 1 = 0 with an algebraic formula that used to be popular on T-shirts back when I was in high school. They had a = b. Then they did a bunch of fancy calculations on each side of the equation and eventually come to the conclusion that a = 1 and b = 0 therefore 1 = 0. The only problem with it was that on one side of the equation they divided by a - b. According to the previous definition of a = b then a - b would be dividing by zero which is not allowed in solving equations. But it looks like a valid equation at just a quick glance. Even studying it for a while you oculd miss it. Took the teacher to point it out. We were 9th or 10th grade I think. The point is is just because it's convincing doesn't mean its right. But if it made you look some stuff up then it's a learning experience and that is a good thing. [ 04-27-2001: Message edited by: Charles Lindsey ]
  11. Interesting link. Quick, write NASA and tell them to install a 300w power supply! Anyone got any old MIR jokes lying around? We could recycle those as well. I would like to think that the Russians will recycle a fair portion of that money back into the space program. I think NASA is acting like a nervous mother hen brooding over a china shop. So long as the guy minds his manners I think everything will be ok. Of course we landed on the moon. All those engineers sitting in the control room were doing nothing? All other easily disproven "evidence" aside what happened to the rocket? If it went up and didn't go to the moon where did it go? Had to have come down somewhere. Sadly I know some people who don't think we went. My subordinate's (sheesh I hate that word) wife also thinks the earth is flat because the bible talks about the four "corners" of the earth. Anyway I hope all goes well with the thing. Maybe we will get to Mars in my liftime.
  12. No not talking about our own internal ISS fleet but the International Space Station. The new robot arm works. I think Italy pitched in for another module. Tourist paying Russia 20 million for a tourist trip. Nasa is mad at that but I think it will be ok. Fascinating stuff.
  13. Not claiming a place holder ( I don't like them) but I really need to post. Suffice to say after Chavik got back to his quarters and made it to the safe zone he got beamed to the McKendrick with every one else. Looking more like a marine from the weapons he had gotten than a fleet leader who dealt with inventory and invoices he got shuffled with the remaining mercs and whoever else looked rough and tumble into another holding area. Out in space three lonely shuttles once more locked onto Chaviks comm signal and began pursuiing their target. (Poor old shuttles have had to pay hell to get where they are ) I figure with the McKendrick sitting still ( it wasn't posted otherwise so don't know) the shuttles will catch up. I'll expand later or proceed from here. Charles
  14. They are Marshmallows I swear it! They just the colored ones is all. Don't go real good on Sweet Potatoes but they fire up ok at camp. I can picture it now. All of us sitting by a fire. RM and Remo busily roasting marshmallows, I'm stoking the fire, Akuma is sitting on a log quietly sketching everyone, and every so often reaches beside her and pats a goldfish bowl she has propped up on the log next to her. *Ducks and runs*
  15. "Born In THE USA" : Bruce Springsteen. (nitpick: The word "of" is not in the lyric "USA") Wait a minute Tac: I found another bag of marshallows! (passes bag to Tac) Least the conversation is quieter over here by the fire. How about a round of Kumbaya?
  16. It's about time to tone this down. The least that could have been done was put antagonizing posts in the appropriate thread. It was that way already and you could debate freely. I believe this was a thread to throw some humor on the (fading) situation. Tac. I'll have a marshmallow. Lightly golden if you please.
  17. My goodness they really are watching us. Welcome Enderlin!
  18. quote:Originally posted by Tyrn: Yes, THEY ARE WATCHING YOU!! I don't mind that they are watching me. If I was paranoid about it I wouldn't post. It's just a curiosity to me that from the relatively many posters I know here that there are thousands more hits to the site. (Yes, Derek has posted site stats before)
  19. You are almost always exactly one year closer to death. Until you hit that last year that is . When is that? Who knows? My weirdest thought has always been about the ratio of posters to lurkers. Outside of those regulars who post how many more are out there looking for answers or whatever? Just a weird thought.
  20. Shingen, forum private message received and replied to. Awaiting your reply. I'm willing to help. Let me know.
  21. Blades, you should have made her change back into standard issue before those jumping jacks. In your honor Akuma I am making some cookies for your birthday. Have a virtual cookie. Even though you are attatched to a Galcommie I suppose you are almost family. Happy Birthday!
  22. Steve: you sorta got me. That's what I meant. I don't mind paying taxes. Just so long as I don't have to shell out more when it's all said and done. Jaguar: But I'd spend it if it was in my hot little hands.
  23. Finally got them done. Fed's went off yesterday but waited till tonight for state. Almost wasn't worth it for but at least I didn't pay. Hope everyone else had fun and many happy returns.
  24. [rp] Chavik had worked his way upship amidst sparking wires, failing displays, dead bodies and had gotten a good way past his quarters when the general alarm came on to assemble on deck two. He stood stunned for a moment not knowing whether to laugh, curse, or cry. The alarm blared again and he began his way back to deck two. On the way to deck two he managed to stop by his quarters and retrieve his suitcase with his extra "clothing". Looking like nothing more than a civilian who was late for his flight Chavik made his way to deck two. The sniper rifles he had slung over his shoulder gave him a little trouble but in spits and spurts he made it. [/rp]
  25. Echo, all us of luv ya. You know that! How's the yung'un?
