  1. Right you are Jaguar. I have seen things you would not believe. Nothing like doing a little trading, then, having a Firestorm decloak at your jumpgate, just as you come out of HJ, and it turns you into star dust. It always gets intense.
  2. Not at this time. Quite possible in GCO though.
  3. Demo 2 doesn't require Demo 1. They are completely seperate.
  4. Welcome to a new addiction Jaxom. Hey, the big four-o isn't that bad. I did that one seven years ago. You're still a pup. I too have been a space freak, ever since the early days of NASA. If anything space related was on in those days, I was glued to the television. I have played most all of the simulators from the Atari up, but have always been left wanting for something better. Along comes Derek Smart, et joie la! I have been dreaming about this epic space sim since before Derek even started thinking about programming. I don't know your age SC, but I am gambling that you weren't even born yet. So, Cmdr Whitewing, thinking about a place in a fleet yet? We could use a good man in Prime.
  5. The fishing is great over at the VE site. Stop on in and wet your line.
  6. Nothing like having DOS jump up and smack ya in the face, eh?
  7. Apollon, Your best bet is to find some quiet spot and train up your crew. Smart (no pun intended) crews help you live longer. Also, get those mining drones working full time. Once you get enough GalCreds you can buy many nifty upgrades for your CC, not to mention the artifacts you can relieve the bad guys of, once your ship has enough guts to take a beating. Welcome to the BC universe and good luck.
  8. Andromada and Groksin, Perhaps you would find what you are looking for in a game that is less challenging. Pac Man would be a good choice. Judging by your posts, you are both either... A. Very young. B. Very uneducated. C. Very impatient. D. All of the above. Maybe just unenlightened. There is no need for you to come to these boards and attempt verbal attacks when you obviously do not have the ammunition to do so. I haven't known the SC long, but I have known him long enough to know that he sugar coats nothing! Now, if you folks can't stand a blunt reply to what is an obvious lack of intelligence, don't let the airlock door hit you in your fourth point of contact on the way out. If you wish to stay, at least strive to be a member of MENSA instead of DENSA.
  9. OooohRaaaaah! You da man, SC!
  10. Your SC will dock with the CC while towing another craft, but will leave the towed craft sitting in space. You must use the CC to tow the fighter. Once the tractor beam is locked on, you will be prompted to recover the FC. Be careful of hostiles in the area when performing a recovery operation, since your shields will be down while using the TB.
  11. I test my system at the GRC site often. I always get the same result. STEALTH During peak times, my firewall will report @ 100 different attempts to scan my system in around 5 minutes. I feel for you Blades. It's never fun having your system broken into. [ 07-20-2001: Message edited by: Wolferz ]
  12. We're always here. Just waiting on the Gammulans to make a move. It's the quiet little dog in the corner that will tear your leg off.

    LEXX?

Thanks for that heads up on the BrunnenG, TAC. I knew I had it wrong. It's been awhile since I've had time to watch TV. When I do find time, it's always "Farscape", "Stargate SG-1", or whichever flavor of Star Trek re-run is playing when I turn on the TV. Oh, and LEXX too. My lady watched a few of the first episodes of LEXX with me, and she said, "This show doesn't make any sense." My reply, "Why does it have to make sense?", "It's fantasy sci-fi." What's really strange is, she began to like the show when the second season started. It's odd, twisted, and totally off the cuff. Just look at the crew. An idiot, a love slave that is half human, half lizard ( think of the tongue ), a love struck robot sans body, and a Zombie assassin. Not to mention some of the "things" ( for lack of a better description ) that they have come across in their travels. Then there is the LEXX itself. For once a show that dares to look at the more human aspects of living. Shower, kitchen, and of course the crapper, are all there. That's why it's so appealing. Although I can't imagine having my toilet eat me. The writers are a very talented bunch of SICK PUPPIES!

    LEXX?

Same here in the US. Third season running now, and by all indications, somewhat a cult hit. The shows writing is so campy it's entertaining. I especially enjoyed the operatic episode, Frennin Gee (sp). That one displayed some real talent. LOL
  15. FP combat in space? Imagine cruising over to your friendly neighborhood enemy space station with your jet pack, then boarding the station and planting the proverbial flag. Of course the enemy space marines may have other plans for you. Another oxymoron for you: Friendly fire. Which isn't.

  19. Parody and satire were two of my favorite subjects while growing up. Mad magazine just had that special talent for seeing the obvious idiocies in our everyday lives. That diatribe about the lawsuit was written very well and it paints a picture I'd rather not see. ROTFLMAO Can you imagine the smell? That in itself would be grounds for a lawsuit... against the person who wrote it.
  20. With the report of smoke from the power supply, you definitely toasted it. In techie circles, this is known as "Invoking the Homotron Theory." Your only alternative now is.. GAMB & GAPS
  21. There's always the DeD method.
  22. You know you're getting old when children.... Call you sir. You know you're getting really old when children.... Call you Geezer.
  23. Now here is a point worth arguing. Yes, it's true that the Netherlands legalized drugs. Guess what, their crime rate went down, they put their addicts back into the workforce (very productive individuals too), and they severely curbed the spread of diseases that are transmitted via needle sharing. In essence, they made drug addiction no worse than drinking alcohol. The United States outlawed Marijuana back in the early thirties. Know why? Two major players in the US economic picture of that time were the cause. The Pharmaceutical Companies and the Oil Barons. The (so-called legal) drug producers wanted Marijuana to be illegal because people used it as a natural analgesic, broncho-dilator, and appetite enhancer. Heaven forbid that people use a relatively safe medication that they can grow themselves. They won't buy ours! Then there was the oil companies. In the early part of the twentieth century, we saw many leaps and bounds in the chemical industry. There were so many things invented that could be created from oil or its derivitives. Hemp was a major player at that time also. Hemp makes the best rope, as well as very strong and durable clothing. With all the new fangled artificial fabrics, (Rayon, Nylon, etc) the only way to sell these things was to have Hemp banned. So, the oil companies lobbied right along side the drug barons to not only have Marijuana eradicated, but Hemp too. (They argued that someone could sneak and grow Marijuana in with the Hemp, so it was better to outlaw both just to be on the safe side.) (Little did they know at the time, it's better to grow Hemp like Corn, and Marijuanna in Pine thickets.) I have also seen it growing in a Hoosier cornfield, marked with blue ribbon, in plain sight of a busy highway. They caught him. Y'all can argue government, parties, right, wrong, or indifferent, I personally do not condone the use of any kind of drug that has been created by the hands of men. Just look at the drug commercials they run on TV. Side effect this, side effect that. I don't trust the legal drug makers any more than I trust the illegal ones. They're both in it for the MONEY. At the least, if it was all legalized and controlled (like alcohol, cigarettes and tobacco) it would... 1. Remove much or all of the criminal element. 2. Reduce or eliminate the spread of certain diseases propagated by needle sharing. (Hepatitis, AIDS, and probably a few more we don't know about yet.) 3. Remove many many productive citizens from the overcrowded prison systems. (Solves our prison overcrowding problems.) 4. Give law enforcement something more important to do than break down peoples doors and confiscate all their belongings just because they smoke a little weed now and again. (It would also prevent innocent people from getting shot and killed. In my hometown, a man was shot and killed by a police drug raid. When they busted down his door, naturally he sprang from the couch to see what the commotion was all about and a trigger happy officer popped him three times. It turns out that the Police were at the wrong address.) Our Maker put everything we need in the form of food, herbs, and other naturally occurring items on this planet. It's pure, it's natural, it's good for you, and it grows right out of the ground. In my book, if God put it here for us to morally use, what man has a right to deny us it's moral use? I say moral because everything carries responsibility. Wine in moderation is good for you, etc etc. I have witnessed a friend die the slow death that alcohol brings. I have watched a friend go out of his mind by abusing legally prescribed drugs. Today he sits and he stares at the wall. I wonder why his Doctor ignored the problem, even after the guy's wife told him there was a problem? I have witnessed teenagers falling down stairs and barfing on their neighbors at concerts because they blitzed a fifth of (insert favorite booze here) before arriving. The sane people would merely light them up and pass them down. At the end of the show, the sane people left and went home, while the (now passed out cold in the restroom) drunken teenagers were either carted off by friends or the police. I have witnessed the aftermath of many car accidents where booze was involved. (One involved my brother, who was driving. My brother was severely injured and the gentleman who was with him, died. "Take their keys" should apply no matter what substance someone wants to abuse. Summary: If it ain't natural, it's all bad! America is a drug oriented society. As George Carlin so eloquently put it... "They start you out small. We are taught from an early age... Head hurts? Two in the mouth. These are orange. The other colors come later." Last but not least.... Unsubstantiated hypothesis follows.... "What do you suppose the native Americans smoked in their peace pipes that made them so peaceful?" or "Did the early republic send agents to switch the peace pipe tobacco with some wacky weed? Once cotton mouth had set in, whisky was provided. Once stoned and drunk, anyone would sign away what is now South Carolina." No matter how you look at it, it's a wacky world we live in. If we all could consider the consequences of our actions, this planet would be a great place to live. Live by the original Eleven rules and you don't have to worry about the umpteen zillion that our benefactors in government have come up with.
  24. My first computer game was, now get this, Yahtzee. Which I hand coded into a Sinclair QL. It used the Motorola 68000 cpu chip and little tape cassettes for memory storage. Also went through the Atari, Nintendo, Drop your quarters in the arcade machines phases too. Wanna play with the very first computer? Get an Abacus.
  25. Aramike, Take a wee closer look at it from another angle. What group or groups would benefit the most from the Indies, Mercs, whatever you want to call them? Yup, you guessed it... Criminals Traders Any other class flying ships without weapons. A Traders Guild could conceivably muster all the resources needed to support a massive fleet of Indies. We may have our work cut out for us. Oh, and Shingen, Walking into a Lion den uninvited will leave a very good taste in the Lions' mouth. If you're red on my scope, you're red on all the scopes of my Compadres. Bring friends.
