  1. Destrier Wing is under the control of, Orion commander, Epsilon 5. He's a pretty cool guy, pretty active on the forums as well. I'm sure you'll find him pretty at-ease, during peacetime. Wartime?..... That's your guess; I haven't seen him live in battle, just yet. And since Destrier is zoned in the area of Alpha Centauri/Tau Ceti, you'll be seeing more of Orion. So, welcome to our place, Mr. Shardik. I'm sure you'll be seeing more of the Supremacy and myself in the field. [ 10-22-2001: Message edited by: Cmdr Nova ]
  2. If you go to the Win 95/98/ME page, it'll work. The new driver series is called the Detoator XP, but it's just a name. Don't confuse the Detonator XP as Windows XP only. Just like the new Athlon XP; it works like every other AMD processor, on most of the same systems. And that Hercules Game Theater XP sound card........ Anyway, here's the link to the NVidia Det XP Driver page for Win 95/98/ME. Why do I even bother to do this, when the link's right on the www.nvidia.com page, that Gallion gave you?... Tisk, tisk, cadet. (RP) Don't get lazy! You want to get your hands on those Insurgent bunnies right? (/RP) (Damnit, I'm just too helpful...)
  3. It was Macintosh. I don't think anyone's mentioned Linux or anything else yet.
  4. quote:Chrysophylax: A tongue lashing from SC was all I needed to be formally initiated into the BC brotherhood ---------- Supreme Cmdr: heh, while true, I think you got away relatively scot free Yep. I've had a lot worse happen to me.... But that was when I was a newbie. Welcome aboard. I'm Nova, and I'll be here to answer any other questions you'll probably have. Either private message me, or email me ( [email protected] ), and I'll get back to you as soon as I can. And, if you need some reference on the Online and Gaming universe, check my Newbie Info page, here. Note that it's still WIP (work in progress). Hope to talk to you later. 5. Heh. I've been re-kindling my old gaming self lately. Since my last reformat for upgrading to Win ME, I lost most of my favorite DOS games. Anyway, I've been playing Scorched Earth and ZZT, lately. I guess it's my last DOS hurrah unless I decide to dual boot with Win 98 or ME, on Windows XP. On the Windows side, I've been playing that Wolfenstein Beta Test demo thing, that advil listed. It's around 60 or 90 or something MB, and it's on a whole bunch of mirrored sites now. Really popular thing (most people I know have it), and it's a cool demo. [ 10-21-2001: Message edited by: Cmdr Nova ]
  6. quote:Mike, I won't let ya down! =) We'll see about that, Chris. Why do I have a strange feeling about this?........
  7. Hm.... You're wondering if AMD processors don't work on XP? Why wouldn't they? In fact, they're advertising the new Athlon XP, as "designed for Windows XP". Here's their XP propaganda pitch.
  8. I played around with a whole bunch of the XP systems in Best Buy last week. You can return to the Windows 9x style layout, if you want. IIRC, it's in the Folder Options box (it's the same way to get to it as in the other most recent Windows). I'm going to get my copy of XP Pro in a few months (when my uncle can burn it for me ). Either way, I've read (in PC World), that the Product Registration resets after 120 days. So you can install XP on one machine, wait 4 months, and install it on another and the Prod. Reg. will have been reset, so it won't matter! (Finally Microsoft gave the customer the benifit of the doubt... I guess it was all that *****ing about it that made them do it, but who cares?) Hmm.... BSODs? I run into one at least 3 times a week on ME! Then again, I do screw around with settings, run AOL Beta versions, use active desktop (which uses quite a bit of extra OS RAM), 2 monitors..... All on a Celeron 500, with an ATI Rage 128 and Intel 810. .......Okay, so I'm pushing my system to the limits. Nevermind me even talking about my BSODs.
  9. Welcome aboard Masefield. If you've got any questions about the extensive universe of BC, ask me. And please check my (WIP) Newbie Info Page, if you need any info on the Fleet system and whatnot. That is, if you're going to get BCM and play on Multiplayer.... Or at least RP a bit. Like I said, if you've got any questions, contact me. [email protected] Get well soon, and get playing BCM! I'll see you later.
  10. Welcome to Galcom, Commander von Schaffen. Since you're in Destrier Wing, you're under command of Orion Fleet, until ISS gets more members, to fill up the command chain. (I think Epsilon 5 was the one put in charge, temporarily. Was it?) Also, you're going to be in our turf. So welcome aboard our place, have a nice day, and ask me if you've got any more questions.
  11. quote:And you dont know about fleets till your 4th day. You must prove that you can last that long before your introduced to the fleets and given a choice of which to join I'm kinda getting confused. According to past RP's, these are the fleets that existed before 4/4/3000: The (now gone) SDF Fleet (Founded May 2990, by Daniel "Tac" Londono), Orion Fleet (Founded September 2995, by Antti Junkkari), Wraith FLeet (Founded Dec. 2998, by Daniel "Tac" Londono) ISS Fleet (InSystem Support Fleet; Founded Feb. 3000, by Gareth DeSylva and Jeehun Ristar) (All this according to my memory, and I double checked it in the Timeline that DeSylva made.) THe point is that if you say the fleets didn't exist, you screw 10 years of RP History, screw with the fleet histories, and other stuff, which expands and covers lots of other RP stories. In fact, "Operation Galactic Shield," during the Vesperon-Empirian conflict, utilized the 5 Galcom/Earthcom Fleets (Prime, Orion, ISS, Wraith, SCID). Also, the Vesp-Emp conflict was completely played out in RP, and it's now being used as official history for BCM. Velari is yours in 3015, remember demolition? --- Okay, so the point was: if you change a little thing in the past, it just might snowball and change a huge bit of the future. Basic paradox of time travel, or changing history that's already been made. Oh, and if it's that important to the story (not knowing about the fleets), IIRC, Blades was part of Prime fleet when he first became commander, and DeSylva has already posted stuff about him being FC. Let's start sorting this out, please. Nova, over and out.
  12. Hmm... A 77%? Let's see..... quote:79% - 70% GOOD These are pretty good games that we recommend to fans of the particular genre, though it's a safe bet you can probably find better options. I really think it should have gotten the 80-89 percentile though. Look at the part I highlighted. quote:89% - 80% EXCELLENT These are excellent games. Anything that scores in this range is well worth your purchase, and is likely a great example of its genre. This is also a scoring range where we might reward specialist/niche games that are a real breakthrough in their own way. Hmmm...... Tell me: How is this not a breakthrough game? Boy. My first recommendation would be wait until multiplayer. Then the second, would be to have them review the game on different configurations. (At least without the V5, please!) Sorry, but I'm too tired, to join your little E-Mail campaign. Oh, and a quick question. What did they review it by? Was it a beta version? (if so, how recent?) One of the Demos? Or Gold? Post 600!!!!! w00t! [ 10-18-2001: Message edited by: Cmdr Nova ]
  13. quote:Posted by TRD: I doubt its a patriotic reason, more likely what was written on the flag was offensive to him as a muslim. But then again thats just my speculation. It says, "These Colors Don't Run". I've seen it, and they even say that in the article. Did you even read it? Would that be offensive to you a a Muslim? Furthermore, in St. Louis, a shop owner got pissed at a World War II vet for taking down a poster, for the same reasons as Badgerius said. It had nothing to do with his race/ethnic background, because the vet was a Patriotic red-blooded American. This is the kind of stuff I've been reading in the local papers already. Patriotism, folks. ----- I've seen shirts made out of that "These Colors Don't Run" poster. IIRC, it's written under the flag, like $ilk said. Then again, it is (in a way), "attatched" to the flag, which still violates Rule 8. In my Point-of-View, I, like Badgerius, think of it more as Patriotism (like I said above). Anyway, it does justify itself, if you look at it in a certain perspective. It's the great symbol of our nation. It's the symbol of our freedom. And it shouldn't (in my opinion), be disgraced by anything. The flag stands for itself. We don't need words to say just how cool we are. Leave it that way. My $0.02 on this subject. 14. quote:Posted by TRD: --------------------- Originally posted by Kenada: If I where to join Intercorp, would it be possible for me to work as please? What is policy for leave of absence? Would I have to put so much time into Intercorp? ---------------------- You can work as you please. Duh! Isn't that what being an Indie is all about? Doing it your way? And in calling it an Indie, doesn't that stand for Independent? Ahh.... I miss the old Indie days..... At least Orion Fleet's cool. Anyway, I'll remind you, Orion's gonna be here to back you up, if you ever need it. (You're probably gonna be running a couple of our supply routes anyway, so that's what we're after, strategically.....) --- Hmm... You guys seem to be working with GalCom more. (I haven't heard of anyone who's gonna liaison between Intercorp and the Insurgency.) I smell some bunny trouble ahead.
  15. Hehe. Enter commander Cypher, stage left. The laid back, extremely friendly, expert marksman. He's your not quite calm, but just laid back sorta guy. He's charismatic, witty, and all around cool minded. Since Chris hasn't RPed yet, I don't know how else to explain him, except for what he's given me for the character. And remember he's my cousin..... At least he's in on the fun now! --- Oh, and if demolition lets anyone else join, then here's some newbie places of help and reference for your first RP posts. This applies to most RPing anyway, so it don't matter if you're gonna RP a different story. RP Basics PageNewbie Basics for Online (RP, Fleets, Multiplayer) Official BCM Appendix (Includes Ship Specs, Official Back History, etc. Good place to double check your info and whatnot.) DeSylva's RP Timeline (I've mirrored this onto my site, since the ISS site is still down. Note that this story takes place in 3000, so you don't need anything post-4/4/3000 unless you're planning to RP in other stories.)Hmm... I remember doing one of these "Places of Reference" posts for Into the Fire a long time ago.
  16. quote:Posted by Rico Jansen: Nobody said indie life was easy. Very true. But that's why they're getting fleet support from you, me, and others. And the next generation of Indies will have it easier, thanks to all our hard work. Wait until GCO! Then you'll see the indies take over. But I'll be there to keep them under control..... *evil grin* [ 10-17-2001: Message edited by: Cmdr Nova ]
  17. Hmm.... A Firestorm? Damn, that's some heavy firepower. Really hard to get your hands on. Hmm... Other than Jerold Keenan (who's in ISS also), only Blades has one. (according to Fleet DB) I think it's more of a ranking officer's vessel. After all, Blades is Orion's FC and Jerold is head of CIOPS. (or FC Ristar; I'll wait until official re-organization comes in) Are you sure you can get one? (considering you're just a base level commander, and all, it'd be tough) --- Hmm... Now that I look at my post in the story, it looks a bit messier than usual. Oh well. It's been a few months since I've RPed. --- And can another Indie join in? It's an assassin, if you're wondering. I'm not going to tell who, though, until I get a reply. *evil grin* (But then again, you're probably already guessing.)
  18. Hmm... 3 old timers (Blades, Somerset, and DeSylva), and 3 that have registered on or after March 2001. Let's make this a good one, boys! (RP) April 4th, 3000; 0200hrs Shuttle Earth Region, Sol Alone in the shuttle, Nova walked to the command chair. The air was still, although the shuttle was already at max speed. He went to the controls and started to speak. "Computer, set destination: Lennen. Oh, and disengage auto-pilot." What a long night it had been. A long, cold night. But now he was away. Away, away from all the problems that hunted him down. --- Alec's father had been killed a few weeks ago. The father who'd been there for him his entire childhood, then after raising the young Nova, went off and worked as a scientist for anonymous clients..... Almost like the old him disappeared... Or he was forced into staying there. Blackmailed into doing doing secret projects, with no contact with anyone else. His life stolen from him. Either way, he wasn't there when Nova graduated and then joined the GalCom Academy. He wasn't there when Nova needed him. And then, his ship mysteriously vanishes, and everything just caves in on Alec. Soonafter the incident, several mercenaries came to Alec. They wanted his father. They said it was imparative. But Nova didn't know what to say or how to find what they wanted. He didn't even know what happened, until they described it to him in detail. --- To Nova, it was up to him to do this. Truth. And if it needed be, revenge. He didn't care if he was going AWOL or not. He didn't care about consequences. He already got the consequences of what his father left behind. He just wanted to get away from those troubles, find the truth, and make whoever did that evil deed regret it. But Nova came across a sudden realization: those mercenaries did look and talk serious. Like there was something about his father's most recent project that they wanted. Or that the project might fall into the wrong hands. There could be trouble if they bumped into each other again. At least he wasn't a sitting duck in the Academy. Although the situation looked like a bottomless pit, there was someone he knew that could help him with the mercenary predicament, and perhaps find information about his father's work. A man that he knew only as Cypher..... April 4th, 3000; 0215 Jupiter Region, Sol Nova's heart pounded as a klaxon sounded through the shuttle's cockpit. He pulled the holographic computer controls, and squeezed his hands around the semi-transparent flight controller. The orange-clear 3-dimensional controller, and the HUD floated just right in front of the pilot's seat. Quick reflex time, and incredible control was the main plus to this technological wonder. --- There were 2 interceptors, and 1 shuttle deployed from a local Battlecruiser that happened to hear about his escape, and Grand Theft Shuttle . He was a security risk to them...... It wasn't like he knew anything, though. After all, he was still a cadet. Or at least he was a cadet. Now, he was a fugitive. A fugitive from the very people that he once envied. He weaved the ship through the asteroid field, dodging the asteroids, outrunning the opposition. "You can't handle my mad skills!" Nova yelled. It wasn't like they heard him because he didn't have a commlink, but it was natural for him to taunt any opponents. One of the interceptors wasn't nearly as agile as Nova's shuttle, and crashed into the surface of an asteroid. The pilot yelling into his commlink, the 2+ km/s impact of the ship and the firey red iron-based asteroid, the big powdery poof as the ship crashed, and the explosion. The explosion lit the dark sky of space. "Boo yah!" That was the moment that Nova saw fit to escape his pursuers. He pressed a few buttons on the floating HUD, and let go of the flight controls. "Computer prepare to jump. Target: Sirius. Engage auto-pilot, and continue en-route to Lennen." The holo-flight controls disappeared from in front of him, leaving him with the HUD. He sat back in his chair, and watched the target cameras, observing the other ships. Fools.... The space around him warped in on itself, while the stunned pursuit craft were still distracted. And seconds later he was in the Sirius jump gate. (/RP) Update: I decided to fix some of my chapter and re-write some of it. Just correcting that messiness that I talked about on page 2 of the non-RP thread for this story. No one has replied as of this update, so it's all good. Nova, over and out. 19. In your slower version I still hear "wonder". And you sacraficed a ton of quality in slowing it down. It's in mono (that one line you didn't get at 1:31 was really quiet, played on the left side only), and it's only in 64k 22050Hz. Finally, I don't think I needed to stretch that little 30 seconds to 2:03! It's just as hard to make out a word that's super stretched to 5 seconds long. Anyway, nice site you've got there.
  20. quote:P2/MMX 500mhz Win 98SE and a PCI 32SDR Radeon I've been running the demos for a while with my Celeron 500, 192MB of Ram, and a PCI 16mb Rage 128. Anyway, I'm upgrading my system around Christmas, so I'll be okay with BCM. I think you'll do okay (as per the reqs. from the BCM Info page). Oh, and those glitches with the textures are based on ATI's drivers. I think have been corrected (at least the ones I experienced with the Rage chipset). Download the latest drivers: http://support.ati.com If that doesn't help, then add /nd1 /nd2 to the end of the "Target" box of the shortcut. Welcome aboard. I'm Nova, and you can ask me any further questions you have about our community, or basic questions about RP, Fleets, or what to expect from here on in (multiplayer, etc.).
  21. quote:For instance, think Maxis payed Drew Carey? The "Sims" part of the April Fool's, "Catch our mistakes" episode.... Did you know that the Sims version of him can be found in houseparty? He was the first (and only) celebrity guest I got when I threw a really big party. The only successful party I ever had. And I say he didn't look too bad on my computer. They give him (or he is 'compensated'(bribed) by them) the right to use The Sims, and then for compromise, he lets them use him as a thing in the game. This reminds me of the EB Games thing in that base in the Episode 2 Demo. Hmm..... So who will it be? Mark Hamill? William Shatner?
  22. Baloogan, your link to the BC song doesn't work, so I had to do this with my own file on my computer. (Eek, right? Play, stop, pause, play, rewind, play, pause, stop, etc.) --- I'll post my take on the lyrics (it's derrived from Baloogan's): Key () - Means I'm pretty sure. 75-100% sure. [] - Means that's what I think I hear. 50% sure. {} - Means I'm not sure. Sounds something like this. Probably not. 25% sure. ... - Indistinguishable spaces once again. Lyrics 1:21 ---Fade into Narrarative--- 1:22 The land of [entropy] (see footnote a). 1:25 The place of technological wonder. 1:27 The people are surrounded by...[channeling] {kinetic} (see footnote b) energy... 1:31 The people are governed by a peaceful oversight. 1:34 Each {seeks/sees}...(the other in perfect existance). 1:38 The earth is a kind and [charismatic] [soul]. 1:42 Until the fateful day the {crystal} (see footnote c) discovery follows..... 1:47 ---Fade back into Music--- Footnotes a. I say it sounds like "entropy", but there sounds like a "K" sound on the end... Entr--p-k, is what is easy to distinguish. b. It echoes like mad, and it's loud! I think there's a voice behind the echoing "channel/channeling..." sound, can't tell. (Update: I doubt there's a sound back there. I think I can make out the word kinetic along with channel, though. "channeling kinetic energy" is the best guess; changes above reflect this.) c. Again, one of those evil echoing "C" words like footnote A. Sounds like cr, cru-, or something. Cristian, or Crystal (which I said above). I like the latter more. It says "crystal" first, and then echoes with something that sounds like "crisco". Thanks to my brother for his opinion on this one. There you go. My best guess. I have no programs that can slow down/modify the song, but if I did it'd be easier. Like I said, Baloogan's link is down, so I had to do this by my own ear, and rewinding WinAmp over and over. [ 10-16-2001: Message edited by: Cmdr Nova ]
  23. Once again, I'll probably mirror some of the MP3s from the demo on my site. Life's been a pain lately, haven't gotten site work done for over a week, at least. Next update, you'll see the Fleet section of my newbie guide complete, and more downloads!
  24. Ahh.... 3020. Nova's 40 by then. Hmmm... Never thought about that. Considering he joins Orion Fleet at 28 and becomes a commander, he too, was really young, and was looked down upon during his initial tours of duty for Orion.... So I've got a thing or two in common with Riga. I'll catch up on the story and post soon.
