  1. LOL! Interesting, SC. (RP) Sir, band of (Galcom/Insurgent/Indie) 4 cruisers on our six!!! What's our course of action? Um... Let's squash those fools. Give those (lemmings/bunnies/tribbles or mice) something to yelp for. (/RP) Er, do tribbles yelp? What sound did they exactly make (it's been a while since I've seen ST at all)? Hehe, tribbles. I told you I was high. *starts singing* Because I got high, because I got high, because I got high, da da da da da.... (The song is "Because I Got High", by Afro Man.)
  2. quote:Posted by Joel Shultz: (hey, if Galcom=commies or lemmings and Insurgents=bunnies, what do we call Indies?) Been thinking about this for a while..... I say mice. Here's my reasoning: (RP) The Mice (Indies) - It continues the mammal-based nicknames; yes, another band striving for control of the universe..... They don't seem to travel in specifically designated groups. Small and annoying.. Easy to step on... Oh, and sometimes they can look all cute and helpless one moment, and once they have you all woo-ed over, they bite you and give you rabies or something...... (/RP) I tell you, it fits! Doesn't it? Guys? (I'm getting high off medpacks again......)
  3. I'd also like to say Happy Birthday to Jeffery Eu! (according to my ICQ, again, his is 11/2/01) ...But, since he's in Malaysia, he's +8 GMT, and it's already 11/3 there. Well, it's still his birthday, where I live at least, so I'm still wishing him a happy birthday.
  4. Sure, Prime does it all. But are they as good as the rest? *cough* erm... Fine, so I don't really know about the others, but tell me: Which fleet is the elite powerhouse of GalCom? Which fleet has the most active forum users? Which fleet is so cool, it's pimp-tight? If you answered Prime to any of those questions, I just might hurt you. (j/k!! But you get the picture.) We're all active, so if you need backup, we're always here. If you have questions, we're always here. We're strong and capable. We've got the goods (cool ships and whatnot). And we've got pretty comfy quarters at the station, and fembots! (I'll tell you where to find them, if you decide to come our way....) And for all you diehard wannabe Marine and Pilots, here's your chance. If you've got mad skillz, and wanna take on the Gammulan Empire and the Insurgency, then join Orion's 22nd Interplanetary Marine Battalion and the Orion Fighter Command, today! Orion is going to define elite, when multiplayer comes out. You'll be able to tell, when you hear the sound those bunnies make!
  5. quote:Posted by Gallion: 4) What is your fleet's policy towards independents? Are they neutral, hostile or friendly? Depends on their action(s) towards us Eeehh. I sorta learned that the hard way. (See here. Sheesh, I even got some from Papi, from Prime Fleet. What a helpless newbie I was......)
  6. quote:hey epsilon 5 how can i join the orion fleet? $ilk, the Orion Fleet recruitment officer is having some E-Mail trouble. Try going to the Orion Forums, head to the Newbie Forums and post there. Welcome aboard, Krazor and Warren. If you've got any more questions, I'm usually around to answer. After all, I'm the newbie welcome wagon....
  7. quote:just what fleet is the best anyway? Depends on your taste. See my Newbie Info Page for more info. The page is about 80% complete.
  8. I don't think he has to upgrade his Video Card, if he can't really afford it. I'm in that sorta area right now. I've been playing the BCM Demos with nothing more than a Celeron 500 and an ATI All-In-Wonder 128 (Rage 128, 16 MB)..... quote:Posted by Captain He-Man: i'll try getting the service packs, but i don't see how they'll help. How could you say that? They attack and repair Windows's many bugs, at the core! See Emmett.hendrick's post for more pursuasion (spelling?).... LMAO->Epsilon 5
  9. Yep. The game doesn't re-initialize the graphic for your ship. It's been fixed, but you can either play around it, or exit to windows and then play again, if you want for now. Welcome aboard, chris506.
  10. What OS? System Specs?
  11. Update: What Carl said would be on the right track for other errors, but with a memory error, re-installing Direct X and Vid Card drivers wouldn't probably help. Good job in attempting to help, Carl; I would have said the same thing, if I hadn't noticed one thing. (I'll outline that next.) I hope you'll still be as helpful when the Newbie flood of BCM comes over. Lord help us all. quote:Originally posted by Captain He-Man: my system is this: AMD 1.2ghz t-bird 192 megs 'o ram Voodoo 3 3000 16meg agp (with latest drivers) WIN2k (no service packs) DirectX 8.0a At first I had no idea on what could be the problem. I was going to have you re-install the basics, at first (Direct X, Vid Card Drivers, Windows Media).... And then, like *ding* *ding* *ding*, it hit me. Right now, I'd start with the service packs. The Troubleshooting FAQ explicitly states, oh say, about 10 lines in, that the minimum requirements are: quote:Windows 98/ME/2K/XP (with all service packs) Pentium II 300Mhz or AMD K6-2 350Mhz CPU 64 MB RAM (128MB minimum for WIN2K/WINXP) 16MB DirectX 8 compliant 3D graphics card 16Bit DirectX 8 compliant sound card 8X CD-ROM 500MB uncompressed hard drive disk space Microsoft compatible mouse That just might fix it. I'm not sure what else to do. If it doesn't, then I'll let someone else answer. (Or, you could do the Direct X, Vid Card Drivers, and try some sort of Motherboard/Bios/Chipset updates as a last resort; it's my guess since it's a memory error. Last resort, though.) And if you've got more questions, you can try me, and I'll try to field the answers if I can. After all, I'm the Newbie Welcome Wagon, and even if you're not a newbie, I'm here to help anyway. Did I ever give you a formal welcome, He-Man? Ah, who cares; welcome aboard. Hope to see you in multiplayer. More Targets (*cough*, I mean players)= More FUN!
  12. Public Access servers allow only 16 players per server. You actually play on the servers; it's SC's server, he wouldn't let you down. (He pays for the bandwith, remember?) I think I remember SC saying something about not allowing player-established servers, so only official ones will be used. I'm not sure, but I think there may be more players per server on the Fleet Access servers.
  13. I think I just might join in, too. Sounds cool. 3027 truly is a good year to die! ...and then undie sometime before hand....
  14. It was either 90 days or 6 months or something. If you don't have an EB or don't want to order from EB online, better expect a wait..... Bah, I haven't ordered it yet, though. I'm in your boat, then.
  15. CrusierMan826, go to theBC3k Downloads page, first and update to 2.09. (You'll need to do 2 patches: 2.07 to 2.08, and then the 2.08 to 2.09. Just like Tribes 2's one-by-one patching method.) --- I found the link for the Supported Cards page and the CHIPSET INFO utility, but both are 404's (they're not on the server anymore). Here's a link to a copy to it, though. Since your card isn't on the list, you just do /v1 which forces the default VESA driver. For reference, if your card is on the list, you take the number next to it ("82 nVidia Riva TNT", would be number 82), and put it in next to the /v?. So if you had a Riva TNT, you'd do /v82 on the shortcut. And even if you find something similar, like Intel i740, or 3Dfx Voodoo Banshee / Voodoo 3, don't confuse it with something else, like an Intel 810, or Voodoo 4/5. Most brands usually make all their models sound similar. Make sure you've got the exact one. I can't stress that enough. (Because I was a fool to try it myself, against the commands of the instructions.) I would upload the Chipset Info utility (which tells you what number to use on the /v?), but if you're experienceing any problems with the game or graphics, it won't do anything special, because the game uses the same auto-detect method; as in, what it detects is what BC3k detects. And, if forcing the native driver (seeing list, and changing /v?) doesn't work, just go back to /v1. ----- Um, when reading the Troubleshooting FAQ, I checked this out, which points out the S4.... I'm too lazy to delete everything above, so I'll just leave it; anyway, it just might help some other folks looking for the solution. Bye now! quote:If your card is detected as VESA, this means that the chipset is not supported directly by BC3K or, the auto-detect is failing (Savage 4 cards for instance). In which case VESA 2.0 or 3.0 emulation (which is usually slower than using the native chipset) will be used instead of native mode. In the case of Savage 4 cards, if the BC3K.BAT file does not contain /v1 and the graphics are corrupt, then add it manually, by opening up the file in Notepad.
  16. quote:Posted by LordDavid: Don't forget the fighters. There are Light, Medium, Heavy, and Super Fighters that Carriers carry. Then there are shuttles that need flyers for running away when the Gammulans dissable the carriers.... I assumed that he/we could tell the difference between a capital ship and the other kinds. Right? And to clarify again, a Commander controls a capital ship. Always. (Except when they're station commanders.) Be it a carrier, cruiser, transport, or what have you; it's a cap ship. quote:Posted by Epsilon 5: Eh, Orion never disable enemy carriers Ep5 is right, for the time being. But wait until GCO! When GCO's here, I'll be able to go inside their ships, FPS-style, and convince them to let me "borrow" their ship..... (That is, if SC's wishlist for GCO gets down to adding FPS in enemy ships...) ----- Actually, Ep5, I always loved the extra reward money of "selling" enemy ships at stations. I mean, even though it gives you less than half of the "destroyed enemy" EP, the extra cash does more than make up for it. (I'm greedy, so sue me. At least I'm not a mercenary anymore; you'd love to see my prices.) .......And the folks at our newly renovated Interrogation Facilities at the Orion Starstation are just waiting to get their little zappers on some hapless Insurgent or Gam commander.
  17. quote:Posted by Jaguar: I am still trying to figure out what our sigs are going to look like, do we just have our MAIN AE signature or can we do both in our sig, could get awfully BIG!! I'm guessing you could do what DeSylva does. Here's a stripped-down version of his current sig, just work around it, I guess. quote:AE1 Name / AE2 Name AE1's rank and/or career / AE2's rank and/or career AE1's asset / AE2's asset AE1's Fleet/Wing or whatever / AE2's Fleet/Wing or whatever "quote" Of course, it makes for some conflicts with some fleet's sig regulations. You could just do a dual-sig thing, like: quote:AE1's Sig Blah Blah Blah AE2's Sig Blah Blah Blah I can't see any way to implement a sig logo into that though, maybe "AE1 Logo"/"AE2 Logo"....
  18. Everybody say C!!!
  19. Our good friend, Spuzzum turns 17 tomorrow! (If ICQ is correct, that is..... ) Happy birthday Spuzzum!!!(, from a former fellow Galactic Police Officer)!
  20. Like Jeffery said. You've got to ask the admins (usually aramike) to add the ship type in the Fleet DB for you. Just tell them what ship. Ship specs are in the Appendix, here, but my version is obsolete, as Derek has made some last-minute changes before the game was released. When I get the game, Derek has given me permission to mirror the new version. Oh, well; you can just pick your ship by looks, if you feel like, 'cuz I can't tell what's been changed yet. I say choose now, get your Fleet DB profile up to par, and then re-register when the Forum upgrade comes. IMHO, of course.
  21. Right. I mean, the story's all cool, and stuff, but you've got some problems with the "rules of the road"...... Here's what I could tell, right off the bat. Excuse me if I miss some, because I'm still not very experienced at RP, yet. 1) In having your character/alias (Jerold Keenan) interact with someone elses (FC DeSylva), please check with them (by e-mail, ICQ, or whatever means of communication), the actual parts of your conversations. This is to ensure that characters keep their same "style", and whatnot. 2) Check with Fleet officials before writing something up about Fleet/Wing/Battle Group deployments. (As in "Prime Fleets Alpha and Epsilon wings, as well as OrionÔÇÖs Sark battle group and the majority of the Wraith fleet......the entire Insurgency".) 3) Keep technology somewhere within the constraints of the BC Universe. Keep all "special modifications" within believable constraints, and you should always match a "pro" side of things, with a "con" to go with it. (Chronoton shockwave needs pros/cons. What class is the Ragnarok? 37km is really big.) Hm... The chronoton shockwave reminds me so much about the Chrono Troopers from Red Alert 2..... They both wipe away things from history. There was this thread back in some of the further pages, that talked about the "mod-ing" of ships or whatnot for technology in RP. I don't seem to have a link, though. If someone knows what I'm talking about, please find a link. See you later.
  22. salisbury, if you mean capital ship the way I think you do, then all fleets have available ones. Depends on type. A carrier is hard to come by, these days. Command posts? Do you mean as in ranking position command posts? ISS still needs officers in several of their branches. And, since their numbers are low, a whole bunch of their commanders (even the regular ones), have those super-cool Super Carriers, like Firestorms. The Firestorm-Class Super Cruiser Of course, when more people join, they'll go back to what the regular fleets do, so 'hurry, while supplies last!'. Of course, I'm not sure if they're still doing this. Better check with them first.
  23. quote:Originally posted by Remo Williams: Very close indeed! On my way in I seen some of the moderators are starting to take up positions with there anti-flame gear. And I'm getting ready, too. Daily shows (weather permitting), of the Incredible Newbie Welcome Wagon!!!! He'll answer any question you have, that no one else would bother to answer in detail! Finally, someone who doesn't just say RTF(insert something here)!!! So, how bad could it get? It's not like I'll be swamped, right? It's not going to be that bad, right?....... Oh, boy. Congrats on post 400, Remo.
  24. quote:Thats the right way to do it. Permission granted. Thanks!!! (deep inside thoughts: yes, yes, yes! cool! SC noticed me!) *bows beneath SC* lol quote: If I let everyone pass my files around, next thing you know, they'll be passing ISOs around too. I'm not just anyone..... You know who answers, in detail, those oh-so-simple newbie questions SC doesn't answer; the questions where RTFM would be easier to say than the fully detailed answer (complete with links to other sources of info)? Heh, when multiplayer comes out, the fools (as in those detractor types) will all be complaining about the number of players/server, not wanting to register to get on the good (Fleet Access) servers. And then there'll be GCO....... --- Hmm... (I'm probably gonna go so off topic, here.....) Would the public servers require registration of any kind? A good anti-copy thing would be to have the online play registration require the serial key. (Is that already in your master plan?) For the Fleet DB, it's a controversial move, though, as lots of fleeters won't get BCM or GCO, because of system requirements, and/or because they're basically just only RPing. (Akuma is one example.) Don't ask me what the point was, I'm just curious again, and I have nothing better to do. But I'd love to see someone try to copy GCO for their friend's, friend's boyfriend's Tribes 2 Clan warez FTP site, without realizing that only one guy will be able to play it with the serial..... Or you could use one of those obscure CD Protection things, like Physical Errors on the disk, on purpose..... Er, that wasn't as off topic as I thought. You did mention the EULA and peeps copying ISOs..... Grrr.. It took me a couple hours to write this in bits in pieces (I had to leave the house in the middle), so I lost my train of thought a couple times. I guess you can tell. --- salisbury, what $ilk said. I've got the BCM Tutorial (which uses the demo missions which are also Instant Action missions from the full game), the (now obsolete) BCM Appendix, and the old BC3k Manual (which is out-dated by the combined BCM Tutorial and Appendix anyway). See the Orion Fleet RP Source (you can just call it The Source), www.rp.orionfleet.com , run by me. Rip, go check out the RPG Discussion Forums, and see some of the epic RPs like Pre-Emptive strike or Into The Fire. Good, long reads. If I had more time, they'd already be archived by now, on single HTML pages, instead of several pages per part (with up to 6 pages, and up to 5 parts/chapters/whatever you want to call them). It'll take you a while to read some of them, but the quality feels like a good book (it all depends on the people (authors) involved).
  25. Gallion's right. The floodgates should be opening up any day now........
