  1. BCTE is a cancelled project. Do you think he's got a map editor that he's gonna release? Just wait for BCTC (BattleCruiser Tactical Command), and then you'll be able to actually go walking in the entire ships. See the product info pages for more info, and there's also a thread in the Development News forum.
  2. Oops. Guess I got a little carried away. Won't happen again, Gallion.
  3. Heh. Oh yes, the Newbie Welcome Wagon's here. Took long enough. I have a life, you know... Really! quote:Well this is my first post to this board so I'd thought I make a nice...safe statement, like Music, nothing controversial there right? NO! You deserved to be banned for this! Just kidding! Welcome aboard. E-Mail Me, if you've got any questions on the game's universe and our Online community. Also, please see my Newbie Info Page, if you need some reference on Fleets and stuff. I've also got a few downloads there. Be sure to check that out. Anyway..... Techno? Heh. I've been listening to Rock and other stuff. (I'm an american teen, what did you expect?) I've had some MP3's already in the BCM E2 Demo. Let's see... Limp Bizkit (Mission Impossible 2 Theme), some Linkin Park tracks (Crawling, Forgotten, In The End), Creed, Metallica, Nelly, P. Diddy, and the Japanese Outlaw Star theme. A nice hard guitar-based song pumps me up during a battle. Easy on the color Nova TTFN [ 11-16-2001: Message edited by: Gallion ]
  4. No. You've got to wait for Commandant Badger or FC Blades to announce the Academy Graduation on the Orion Forums. I still remember when the Cmdr status on the forums was at 50 posts instead of 100.......
  5. Exactly what DeSylva said. Assassins, and Raiders (at least in BC3k), show up as red on the computers of GalCom ships. And you know what that means? I'll quote an Orion Marine saying for this one, "If it's red, make it dead." 'Nuff said. I hope Intercorp keeps it's logistics right. I'd hate to Liaison with a corporation that's got tension between it and GalCom.
  6. quote:The ISS is always looking for some new(or returned) recruits. Returned recruits........ *sigh* The story of Private Sharpy and Corporal Neo of the Orion Fleet 22nd Interplanetary Marine Battalion, going on a fateful mission in enemy territory, is pretty well known around Orion Fleet. quote:Posted by Epsilon 5 ( here): We had hmm... marines (outside of JJ), but they never came back from that away mission on Cyron-IV... We should have provided them support... or more people
  7. Shingen's back!!! And what's this? He's talkin indie? But this is a corporation! (Begin long speech....) Until now, Indies and UCVs were pretty much the same thing. But now, the true separation of Indie from UCV in general seems to have started. (Indie meaning Independent, and UCV meaning anything that isn't designated as Galcom/Earthcom/Insurgent.) Intercorp is a semi-civilian corporation. It's not Indie (because it's an actual group/corporation), but it's not part of any existing (Galcom/Earthcom/Insurgent) organization. Anyone who wants in the corporation can do so. Anyone who doesn't, it's their choice. I mean, what do Assassins and Commercial/Trader caste people have in common in the first place? Other than the fact that they're UCV. Intercorp is for the UCV, overall. It looks like Shingen is looking for the Independent life. I think I'm gonna quit calling UCVs in general indies anymore. Intercorp's footing is beginning to show how diverse this is. In fact, the Gammulan Fleet is still classed as UCV right now, still. Are they indie? So in the end, Indies are a part of the diverse UCV group. There are still those corporations, guilds, whatever out there, that aren't indies; they're like one big group, that supports itself like a fleet. (The speech sorta ends here...) Look at Intercorp as a job-finding service. Clients go to Intercorp with a job proposal, Intercorp finds someone to do the job, and there you go. Intercorp gives it's workers discounts to allied stations, gives them backup and relief, and so on. It's completely optional, so no one has to join, and you can quit anytime (if you're not currently fulfilling a job), but you lose your perks this way. Shingen you've missed far too much of this to be arguing. If no one invited you to join Intercorp, and you don't want to, then go away. Complaining is like going to a job interview, and telling them how much you don't want the job. Good to see you back, Shingen. Prepare yourself, for multiplayer beckons. And remember this: Assassins aren't welcome by GalCom. Nova, over and out. (Hey, is The Independent Way (RP) gonna be finished? I'm thinking we could call over most of the people involved in the story, and finish it once and for all. It had such a good start, and I wanna see the first true UCV-Based RP story actually get finished. What do you say?)
  8. quote:That's what I thought, but why does the dial-up get them and not the ADSL? The servers you connect to are different. My AOL downloads from UK servers faster than it does from West Coast US servers. Back when I had cable, it was opposite. Whoo, my folks just ordered DSL! Countdown: 2 weeks! (Yep, another countdown, but this time it's just a personal one.)
  9. quote:See nova, I'm not the only "clueless" one. Sorry for giving you the heat, salisbury.... Speaking of clueless newbies, can you imagine which newbie registered several times in the forum, and twice in the Fleet DB? (Here.) Funny, because that week, I was out on vacation, I didn't even see that thread until like August. Heh, I think I had like 2 or more Forum Usernames back then....... (I think the SC's forgiven me or forgotten by now... But just in case--forgive me for being such a pest, please! ) Man, I haven't seen anyone else nearly as clueless as that yet. So if you want to talk clueless, look at how I used to be. (*Ugh*, reading that thread makes me shudder..... What was I thinking back then?) TTFN. Er, um, I mean Nova, over and out. 10. quote:Commander Rory "Baloogan" Anderson (Terrain/Mercenary) The first terrain race commander!!! Terrain as in land->mountains, desert, etc., not Terran as he probably meant. I just had to bring this over from the Indie threads....
  11. Oh, and to answer some of your confusion: When it's stated as unsupported, then it isn't supported officially by BC3000AD Inc. You can buy the game and play it, but if it doesn't work, you don't get tech support. Simple as that. When you said bug fix for ATI Cards, SC musta thought you meant that there was a bug in the game that he fixed, which is untrue. It's a hack in the code of the game that temporarily lets the Radeon 7500/8500 work. He's said that it will be unpatched later, once ATI's drivers work up to par. And that makes SC's statement true. I think that covers that. SC hasn't been totally active on the boards for about a day or so now. Read that link that Laracuente gave you, and you'll understand from SC's view. quote:You know what? **** it. I'm going to buy the game, even if I can't play it for several months or a year, because I want it...... Wow. Why are all the new ISS guys so much more dedicated than the others in the New Recruit pool. Better have a word or two with $ilk to step up Orion's recruiting. Nova, over and out. [ 11-14-2001: Message edited by: Cmdr Nova ]
  12. There shouldn't be any problems, if I look at it correctly. The ATI Radeon Mobility should play just like an older model Radeon. As in, one of those pre-7500/8500 models. Well, it should, just slower. Good luck.
  13. quote:-------------------------- here we go again. -------------------------- What is "Here we go again."? The madness that is the "Battle-style" thread, Chavik. More specifcally, having this Gammulan RPing Battle come back from the dead. The madness man!! The madness!!! And I thought the first Gam thread would be it. Will it ever end? Too bad the ISS boys seem to be the only ones holding the Gams off. Hm... It's been a few months since I've seen a good one of these argument/battle threads. *grabs bucket of popcorn, sits on couch* Let the show begin! (I'm too lazy/busy to do any of this this week...)
  14. Sure. I really don't know what standards would be official, as of now. Hm.... We haven't gotten any flak from SC yet. We're either doing something right, he hasn't had the time to reply, or he hasn't seen this thread yet.....
  15. quote:Posted by $ilk: * $iLk looks at his ten foot pole deciding whether or not to touch this thread... reaches out to and then pulls back sweating... Nova, just a passer-by, attempts to jump into the thread, but is stopped by a mysterious force. He sighs and decides to come back later..... Yep. I tried posting, but a forum glitch didn't put my post through. It was around the same time as one of SCs posts. Ah well. Time for me to test the fires. Sticking up for his friends like that, or too scared to admit that this was all false to begin with. One way or the other, it doesn't matter. Meaning of the story: Warez are for fools. I see how having English as a second language (if that was even true) might have made him come off as naive, but the fact that he didn't respond with FACTS to the SC was the thing. I respect SCs decision, because I probably would do the same, if faced with the same. If SC decides to ban him entirely or bring him back temporarily, that's up to him. On another note, I did try to find BCM on the internet, with no avail. If his friend "found it on a Warez site while doing a search," then he's lying, or his friend's on some other site, or he's just damn lucky to find it on a search. Either way, I'm gonna leave this topic for the time being. I'll probably still keep reading for current status, but I'm leaving the fire to burn on it's own. *ouch* The touchy thread matter is starting to hurt. Leaps out of the thread, and goes back to passing-by.
  16. To start, see what Chavik said. Remember what the SC said a while ago about misspelled topic names? You're lucky this hasn't been deleted. Yes, I too, think that the Syrions or Droidians get the most obscure race award. They're mysterious, and are a bunch of sentient cyborg/robots, whose intent is unknown. And they're probably the ones who laid down the wormholes and fluxfields you see around. They've gotta win, hands down. Finally, Templar better be your alter-ego's first name, and not rank. (see your sig)
  17. From the "Things to remember when doing animated gif sigs" thread: quote:Originally posted by Advil: Since I made the few animated sigs for us Gammulans, I've seen them popping up everywhere! There are some really good ones that really add to the atmosphere around here. That said, I want to remind all of you (and myself) to keep track of how big those sigs get. I've checked a few of them by right clicking and getting file size. Some of these things are 120k or larger. And some sigs have multiple animated gifs that are each about that size. Consider a couple of very important points: One is that anyone on a modem is going to be downloading that sig for a very long time. A decent modem connect will pull around 4k a sec, so it takes them 32 seconds to download a 128k gif. The sencond thing to remember is that you are probably hosting that file off your personal web space, or that of someone you know. Remember that when the game goes live thousands of people may download your sig over a few weeks, thereby exceeding your (or your friends) bandwidth limit to the site hosting it. It adds up fast. Suggestions for streamlining: I've been using Ulead to make the few sigs I've done so far. First thing, remember that you can make each individual frame last as long as you want. So if nothing's moving, make that frame stay put longer rather than showing a bunch of frames where nothing happens. Huge savings in size here. Second, when doing effects some frames (like the first, or last couple) don't show much change. Remove them, since when the gif is animating you won't really notice them missing. A gif animation is a little jerky anyway... after all it's not a DVD movie. Along these lines are doing effects like the "screen off" effect I use in my sig. I originally made a 40 frame transition to do it, then I threw out the last 30 frames that are all black anyway, and only used about every other frame of the first 10 that actually had the effect. There's only about 4 or 5 frames of effect before going black this way, which is all that's needed to make it look right. The last thing you can do is PLEASE use the optimization features if your program has it. Ulead is VERY good at this. It condenses the color pallet to a smaller size. You'd be amazed that you can actually pull 20% or more of the color pallet out and barely see a difference in the end product. This isn't a rant at all, just some friendly advice to make those great sigs even better! I have cable and don't care how big your sigs are, I'm just trying to offer ways to make them more efficient. Good luck and keep those sigs coming! How about just making a rule for animated gifs like: [*]Image Order: Race ┬╗ Caste ┬╗ Fleet/Organization ┬╗ Wing/Subdivision (optional) ┬╗ Personal (optional) [*]Image Specs: Animated .gif file, 2.5 seconds on each "section", 74 x 88 pixels, max size: 35-50k? (undecided) The 2.5 means that, including transformations, the timing stays about the same as that of the original .gif icons, like the GalCom one. (Watching logo-dances (as in the logos all change at different times) is not pleasing to the eyes, while trying to read text. ) The max size is just a rough estimate of where I want the size to be. What do you think? (I've got dial up that maxes out at 27k, so I'd like it small.) Don't care how many frames, as long as timing is close to 2.5/section and that the size is small enough. This should be flexible enough to keep it cool looking, keep the innovation going, and keep the sizes down. Opinions? I think that the ones that lordDavid, Jaguar, and Advil (and anyone else using the original Gammulan style) used were okay. They were small (-er than others), and included what was required. Timing could possibly change. The Gammulan military also might need it's own logo apart from the Race logo later, though. (You know--you've got mercs, assassins, and other non-official military castes in the Gammulans already.) Heh, I passed up post 700 yesterday. Ah well. w00t!!!
  18. Come here, Baloogan. This discussion involves you.
  19. General Discussions ┬╗ LogosI'm copying over Advil's post to that thread. You can leave this thread as is, or close it if you want. Continuing the discussion at the "Logos" thread.
  20. I put this in the General Discussions forum, because I didn't really find anywhere to put it. Personal sig logos. Like the one's the new Gammulan Council uses. At first it was cool, and I didn't care about the filesizes. Then, newbie Gammulans and Indies copy the idea. Here's a rundown on filesizes: ISS Logo: 8.8k GalCom Logo: 9.2k Jaguar's - 36.7k Lorddavid's - 40.9k Razor_87FIS - 144.8k Baloogan's - 286.9k(Combined from 3 logos: 126.9k, 18.8k, 141.2k) I haven't seen anyone else gripe or notice this yet. But with my dead-slow net connection, I figured something was up. Like I said on the "Forum Problems" thread, long threads loaded up only halfway. The ones with large images (like the sig ones, and the ISS structure thread down on their forum) had a tendency to load to the same point after you'd refresh. (Probably didn't have anything to do with the forums, but it was something that put to my attention the filesizes.) It took me 5+ refreshes to fully load page 3 of the "Gammulan RPG Thread" today. Here's the question. What happened to enforcing that (unwritten?) rule about only using official Tacops registered logos in sigs? I remember that happening to some newbies a few months ago, but now I don't know. I'm thinking the reasoning behind the new influx of these personal images is "....but the Gammulans do it....". Oh well. Just wanted to bring this up and see some official opinions. (And I still love those logos that Jaguar, Advil, and lordDavid have. The others can't imitate the great!)
  21. quote:Actually Chavik, when DeSylva was not ever killed. I think there was either an attempt on his life, but he escaped and went into covert ops or the attempt on his life was a trick to make everyone think he was dead. Either way, he's still alive and kicking! I'd link you to DeSylva's "Fragments", but your link on the ISS Database isn't a link, and the old link (in the RPG Forums, there's a thread) is gone now. Here's a quote from his Fleet DB Profile: quote:Flt. Cmdr. DeSylva was KIA late in the year 3000. An Insurgent bomb planted in the EarthCOM station where he was a visiting dignitary was detonated, killing both himself and his wife. Command of the GCV First Light passes to its first officer, Commander Gary Renwick, a veteran of the First Gammulan Conflict. And a quote from the story, "Territorial" from "Fragments": quote:Were here to brief you, Renwick. We felt now would be as good a time as any, Renwick nodded. Certainly, sir. We will move to Operations immediately. Jeehun shook his head. That wont be necessary, Commander. We can handle the formalities here. Im sure that youve been having somesecond thoughts about your commission to the First Light. Im sure it has occurred to you that your promotion has been somewhat fast-tracked. Renwick nodded slowly. Sir, yes sir. I understood it was because we had suffered losses from our command staff. Jeehun nodded. That is, indeed, true. However, as you can see, he continued, gesturing to indicate the ship around them, this is no ordinary ship. It is a fleet flagship. The First Light always has been. The rest of the sentence remained unspoken. It didnt have to be uttered. The First Light had always been an ISS Fleet Flagship because it had belonged to the founder of the ISS Fleet  Gareth DeSylva - before his death, at the hands of the Insurgency, in 3008, just before the Second Gammulan War broke out. The latter was correct. Heh, I didn't know he "died" twice, until I read Fragments again. He did go into covert ops, right after both times he "died". Hm... If I'm not mistaken, then my assumptions that Scholar (from "Into the Fire"), is DeSylva, was right. Hm... I guess I musta missed something, because I really didn't know he "died" in 3008. I am so overworked and out of the loop right now... Heh. Then again, there is a slight conflict (if I haven't missed anything), because I don't recall DeSylva ever coming back after his "death" in 3008. *sigh* I'm sooo tired right now.. need..... sleep....
  22. Got problems here as well. For the past couple weeks, it's been happening. It loads around 1/3 or halfway or so, and stops. If I reload, it might load completely, or if the page is really long, it'll just load partway again, but this time a bit more. At first I thought it was my slow internet connection, getting the better of me. Oh well..... Wanna start a countdown for a fix?
  23. CNN Website: http://www.cnn.com/2001/US/11/12/newyork.crash/index.html Here's some info that may be useful: -At least 16 people injured on the ground in Queens -American Flight 587, an Airbus A300, left JFK, bound for Dominican Republic -1 of 2 blackboxes have been recovered -NTSB Investigating this as an accident, unless something else shows up. -Flight 587 took off at 9:14 a.m. Monday and within minutes was in flames in Queens, one of New York's five boroughs. -- 1:00 p.m. EST -- Giuliani holds news conference, telling people they should not "speculate" about the cause of the crash. Also, Giuliani says it appears there are no survivors in the wreckage. -- 2 p.m. EST -- NYC-area airports reopen, accepting incoming flights. LaGuardia and Newark also allowing departures. --- Also, according to a news conference going on right now, it seems that the plane "split apart before hitting the ground". Also, there are reports that the pilot dumped the plane's fuel right after takeoff. My take: Don't speculate or "assume" anything, until it's seriously verified. I have a feeling that more pandemonium/paranoia is going to come about after this. I remember going to the dentist just days after September 11, and there was a person in the waiting room talking about the second coming (of Jesus), people going to heaven, "only believers will live on", blah blah. Eeeek. Just the thought makes me cringe. Heh, it's another one of those days. I get home from school, gotta do my homework, turn on the TV, hear about a plane crash, and find out that Mark McGwire just retired (I'm a St. Louis baseball fan, thank you).. *sigh*
  24. Hm... I'm outta the loop, then.. Guess I need a vacation, too.
  25. quote:ISS "In(side) (the)System Support" means in our solar system does it not? At least that is always what I understood it to mean. now it means more. Well, we could rename it..... Hehe.... IQS: "In Quadrant Support"..... j/k
