Uh, SC and I were talking about the Naval Carriers, and towing them/dropping them to the ground. If you didn't understand the text above, then listen up. Naval carriers can't be towed (after this Demo release). ---- But, I figured out the shuttle towing, hit water thing, where the towed object was under water. See this image for preivew. Note that I am on the water's surface; my cheap ATI Rage vid card doesn't display the water correctly, as in the water reflects way too much. This was in the first mission. 1. Launch fighter from the BC. 2. Launch my AE in a shuttle. 3. Tow the fighter from orbit, to the planet (FarStar). 4. Hit the water. My shuttle floated, with little (if no) damage, and I still towed the fighter. Notice that when towing, that the towed object is towed behind, and slightly under the shuttle. While floating, that meant that the fighter being towed didn't sink. When I let off the tractor beam, though, the fighter was disabled, and sank, as usual.

Sorry, in BC3k and BCM, you are only limited to ship-to-ground transporting. In the upcoming GCO, the idea has been thought about and should be implemented. BCM comes out end of summer 2001 (estimated), and GCO comes out in mid-late 2002 (est.).

Into The Fire Act Five - Operation Golgotha
Cmdr Nova replied to Blades's topic in Role Playing Discussions
(RP) Nova stood up. Blades addressed him, and he began to speak. "Sir, what would the expected time window from the time Team 2 is transpoted to the inner facility, up to the time we rendezvous back with the McKendrick? I'm just taking a wild guess, but EarthCom's Facility is most likely heavily guarded, considering they're probably holding Akira, in the deepest sections of the building." It would be a bad surpirse to find Akira, only to find out that the McKendrick already passed by, and picked up the first team. (/RP) [ 07-27-2001: Message edited by: Cmdr Nova ] -
Hmmm... Indie Music? Well, I was sorta thinking, and came up with this. They seem to fit Indies (sort of), by style, but they're just so damn good to listen to, so I listed them.... -Blink-182 Their Newest #1 Single, The Rock Show, in particular rules when your out in an Interceptor, attacking anyone you see... Also, it's just a cool, fast song, and fits indies. -Limp Bizkit This is my fave band, and they are real Indies, when it comes to their music. The mix of metal/rap and lots of other styles seems to really match my idea of an Indie. More to come soon.......

I SO agree! I'm glad they brought it back. I wonder why they decided to do it? My hundreds of endless e-mails worked! ........... Just kidding! CHECK OUT THE OUTLAW STAR!!! 5:00 Eastern/4:00 Central on Cartoon Network!

LOL, well, here comes the fleet propaganda, associated with newbies coming into the system. (And me fighting it, almost all by myself....... ) I love the idea of fleets, because you'll have someone on your back, but if you're such a small set of groups, I don't think you'd all be used to getting orders from the command chain. It comes down to personal preference, and you should stay active (as in, not go missing for a couple months, without notice) if you're going to join a fleet. Depends on how strict and 'elite' the fleet is, because some (most? all?) of the fleets are sorta strict, in the sense that they just might need their troops one day in multiplayer, and wouldn't like it when everyone seems to have disappeared, without notice. Even though Orion Fleet is the "most organized, most powerful, etc." fleet, they need active members, and that's where they get their power from. Like I said, it's your personal preference; hell, to tell you the truth, when I was a newb, Orion fleet was the one I was going to join, but I decided to be the indie I am today....... --- You can be mercenaries, assassins, and raiders, keeping completely independent from everyone else, and still keep your group(s). Me and a few indies (that's what we call everyone who isn't in GalCom, EarthCom, or The Insurgency) have been trying to form 'guilds'/'corporations' that would be just like a clan in a sense. If you want to be independents, you can go ask us in the Misc. Race/Caste forum. Well, good luck. Multiplayer is coming out soon after BCM comes out (est. End Of Summer). I really hope to see you there. You should start reading the manual, too. It has the main history of the game, but like I said, you also might like the RPG's. A lot of "Unofficial" history has happened there, and some major battles, we've been planning to re-enact in multiplayer. See the RPG Discussion Fourm. [ 07-27-2001: Message edited by: Cmdr Nova ]

Building a PC. Kindly asking for opinions.
Cmdr Nova replied to XenoZohar's topic in General Chatter
Hmm, Sharky Extreme has extensive guides on good parts for Gaming Performance-Based systems, and systems for gamers with a budget. They give you the ground up on every part from the case, and motherboard, to the speakers, monitor, keyboard, mouse, and OS. Of course, they don't exactly show you where to buy them, but you can search Price Watch for the cheapest places on the web to buy those components. Also, if you're new to building PC's, then they have a great guide on how to actually put the thing together, and the whatnot. Finally they also have weekly-updated price guides for memory, and CPU's, they have an extensive Forum system, and it's an overall great site. -
Also, about your last comments: quote:.....It has to be multiplayer and allow for space combat on a fighter to fighter basis instead of capital ship against capital ship. Play the demo, and check the readme's and manual. This is much better than what you say. It isn't just capital ship vs. cap. ship. All your people can be fighter pilots if they wanted. But, there is so much more. This IS more than a regular space sim. There are different 'job trees' like Commanders (cap ship, and [optionally] can control fighters, shuttles, ATV's, First Person), Elite Force Pilots (Space Fighters), Planetary Support Pilots (Planet Based Fighters, and Gunships), Marines (FPS [First Person Shooter] Style Action, and Tank/ATV's, and Spacewalking in Spacesuits), and possibly more..... Much more is to come, and GCO is even planned to have naval combat in addition! I hope your people like the massiveness of this, the BC universe! There will be hundreds of 'planetary zones' (term used for each (1 million?)x(1 million?) Kilometer space in the game), and many more planets in BCM's full version. You'll definitely need to read up on everything. Also, all your members will probably need to make sure they're systems are up to speed (SC says that the MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS, are not to be ignored, and it really has become serious, with the amount of graphics invloved). This is a good choice, because the fanbase of BC is great, and this is one game that won't die out anytime soon.

Hehe, I think you and your people can make it here. You should check the downloads page for BC3k. It has a link for the manual for the game. Later this summer, BCM is coming out, but the limit on the public servers will be 16, and 64 players for the secure fleet access servers. We already have an intense RPG base here. It plays like a story, more like an epic. I think you should try looking into that in the meantime waiting for BCM, and it's MMOG sequal, GCO (Galactic Command Online). LINK: RPG DISCUSSION FORUM For official use, if your 'clan' does decide to transfer here, you should decide on a caste, like military, mercenary, police, etc. And start refering to your group as either a 'guild', 'corporation', or something of the like. It would be nice to have more users; I just can't wait for multiplayer! I hope to see you all out there. You made the right choice coming to Battlecruiser.

For your first question RUN THE SOUND SETUP, and READ THE FAQ (supplied). For more info, go HERE. Surprisingly enough, this was only a few topics below yours..... Meet the SC (Supreme Commander; Derek Smart--the man who makes this game--'s username). Here's what he said to someone with a similar sound question: quote:You need to install the DOS sound drivers for your card. This is explained in the FAQ. You may want to read it. For your other questions about the troops, atvs, and every thing else you might need to know about HOW TO ACTUALLY PLAY THE GAME, RTFM! (If you don't know what that means, go ask someone else.) If you had searched the forums, instead of complaining right away, you would have gotten the obvious answer to your first problem. Second, this is a complex game of management, skill, strategy, and lots of other fun stuff. You should have read the manual first......

This is a great idea. My newbie cousin (Sebastian) once asked me that same thing, for Joy Ride, and all the older acts of Into The Fire. Which way are you going to format it? It's hard to format it like a story, because it's in a forum and there are remarks that aren't in the rp speak. I think what DeSylva did is one of the better ways to do it. I can't think of many ways of doing it, but you at least should separate the forum posts 1 by 1, to avoid confusion (certain writers use 1st person as opposed to 3rd person), perhaps with a horizontal rule. Anyhoo, good luck, Eclipse. I don't have word, but I could lend a hand if you need one.

Understood, sir.

I agree, because at first I got used to the left and right of the joystick to be the yaw in E1. It seems to be easier to use in space, and then use the twist axis for the roll, IMO. And, Spuzzum did ask (and I quote), "I was curious (if).......my joystick's twist-handle can be used to control the roll of my ship." I'd like twist for roll, too. I don't gripe as much as others do, and at least I make a good explanation for it, but this would help, because BC3K used the left-right axis as yaw, too, and all of us old BC3K users are used to it. My 2 cents.........

My point was that any 'trigger' for hitting the water surface, and making the object start sinking, didn't work on a towed naval ship, when it touched water, so it ended up continuing to be towed underwater, while the shuttle towing it was disabled and sank, like it was supposed to. I might post a screenshot of it, if I get the time. quote:Posted By Menchise: When I released the tractor beam, I expected the carrier to free fall at high speed and smash into the ground. Instead, the carrier free fell at a not-so-high speed and went 'through' the land, gradually sinking underground without damage. It would be cool to watch it explode, upon impact, even without the realistic physics. Yep, I didn't gripe about the physics, it was that the trigger wasn't activating. I'm completely happy here! (Although there are some other small gripes with the controls. I'll post in the appropriate forum if I find one.) [ 07-23-2001: Message edited by: Cmdr Nova ]

Update. It's gone down since Papi reported it. 1.69 now (see timestamp for date/time). I'll vote 3 times just for the occasion.

Oh yeah, forgot about the cookies. When u vote, click go, wait for the following page to come, and search for the cookie, delete, and repeat if you want. E5, that's why it doesn't go up after many votes, because it has a cookie that tells the site you've voted. Way too much time on their hands, those BC-Bashers. Have any of them actually played a BC game? lol

Into The Fire Act Five - Operation Golgotha
Cmdr Nova replied to Blades's topic in Role Playing Discussions
(RP) Briefing Room GCV-McKendrick Operation Golgotha T - 2 hours The mercenary, Nova, was supposed to stay on the McKendrick at first, but after the loss of the Vulture, and some of the troops (both main and auxiliary), he was one of the few who was let into the briefing. "..... I'm not going to lie to you, some of us are not going to make it back. Surrender is not an option. We cannot offored to be taken captive. If it comes to it, you know what you have to do." The sound of whispers and murmurs went over the room, as everyone just realized what Blades just said. Most of them had never been in such a secretive mission. Nova definitely hadn't. Wow, he's being serious. The mission plan really IS tough. I just hope we can pull this off... The mission truly was tough, and was put together in a short amount of time. Then again, it was the only option this late in time. Blades knew it, most of the people in the briefing room knew it. This would be it. No practice runs, or room for error here. Oh please don't tell me I'm in Team 2. I am NOT getting into one of those stealth suits. Who knows what kind of crap it'll do to me. I'm not gettin sterile yet.... (/RP) Hehe. I really don't mind being in either team. In fact, it would make it more interesting to be in Team 2, but it's your guys call. Also, everyone remember I'm still a merc as of this story.... [ 07-27-2001: Message edited by: Cmdr Nova ] -
I meant that you CAN tow the naval objects. But the glitch is that when if the AI-Controlled shuttle tows an object then hits the water, the tractor beam is still active, and the shuttle still floats there, disabled, while the towed object remains in the tow positon, behind and slightly under it. In the water, that meant the towed object was under the surface of the water, but not sinking, like the trigger would have made it do. I only tested it with the naval objects, so it just might be isolated to those naval ships only.
-
You know, if you tell a shuttle to tow a military carrier (the huge water ones), it comes right out of the water, and floats right up! Lol, right after that, my shuttle hit the water, and floated there, waiting to sink. But the carrier was still towed behind it, and slightly under the shuttle like usual, which meant that the carrier was under water as well........... Glitch..... Well, keep up the work, SC, and I love the E2 Demo! Even though it's so much smaller that the full version, there's so much new stuff to do... [ 07-21-2001: Message edited by: Cmdr Nova ]

I'd send Blades a private message, or E-Mail him, if I were you. Can't locate his email... Oh well, I'll send it to you if I can find it, Chris....
-
Cool. Ya hear that? We might be able to squeeze you in..... I'm still not sure on how to add another person this late in the story. Especially an Assasin..... Hmm.. It's Blades' story, and it's his call, anyhoo. Herro, I also agree with Akuma about that Gundam thing (I watch way too much anime, than is healthy to live by.... But then again, there isn't such a thing; not in my book! ). I loved that show, and would hate to see Herro's name be disgraced. Oh well, too bad I haven't been checking up with Independent Way too much. And about Outlaw, and his Outlaw Star......... I had the Outlaw Star at first (of course it was deleted because I registered twice (*stupid* *stupid* -bangs head-on-wall-)). At least the Tenchi is in it's right place...... And Cmdr Cypher (that's what I should be callin you here, remember?), good luck. Hehe, remember that I wrote that first message word for word, then u copied and pasted..... You owe me .

Into The Fire Act Four - Deliverence
Cmdr Nova replied to Blades's topic in Role Playing Discussions
I totally agree, but there really isn't anywhere for Nova to go, so I'll stay put until the plot advances. If it doesn't, I just might go get drunk and have one of those Blades-bashing galley talks with someone again..... lol Hey, good to see you Akira. Hey, wanna shed some inside story of your captivity? That would be so cool, since we haven't really heard from your side of the plot. (RP)Time is running out, as the McKendrick races towards the location where Akira is being held, as you should all recall. And the (brilliant?) plot that Blades is cooking up will soon be revealed.........(/RP) (I looove suspense!) Well, I'll wait for Blades or someone to post, and I'll have a reply soon (hopefully sometime tomorrow). G'nite folks.... [ 07-21-2001: Message edited by: Cmdr Nova ] -
Well, I don't know. That about covers it for me for now. If I notice anything else, I'll holler. How about you guys? Any other stuff us indies need? I'd like some representation, but I think we already have that covered. We now gained in numbers drastically, so I think we are represented in the way we go about the RP's and the other parts of the forums. Keep it up guys. We are the face of the Indies. It's up to us to attract newbies. And we DO want more members. Hopefully with the advent of multiplayer, we will succeed.

Kush, hold on. Don't be so impatient. Well, I voted right now, Rico. Keep it up SC!
