OK, normally I'd find this amusing, but I don't. This morning, shortly after 7am EST, I got a call from one of the Mindware Studios guys, the developers of Cold War - who, like most - foolishly signed their game with Dreamcatcher. The reason for the call? heh, apparently an unprotected version they'd sent to Dreamcatcher, apparently got leaked onto the net. No doubt that this is probably because DC sent it out for preview, thus the leak. In this warez leak, the readme file had a thank you to me for leaking it. Yeah, go figure. This is some cruel joke, but I don't find it funny at all. Below are the contents of the readme file. quote: Cold War BETA © DreamCatcher Games ................................................................................ ........ GENRE.........: Stealth/Action RETAiL DATE ..: TBA 2005 PROTECTiON....: None RELEASE DATE..: June 13, 2005 DEVELOPER.....: Mindware Studios CD1...........: 52x15MB PACKAGiNG.....: BIN/CUE+RAR CD2...........: 50x15MB GAME URL......: http://www.dreamcatchergames.com/dci/cold_war/ ..............: http://coldwar.mindwarestudios.com/screenshots.html iNFO: Cold War follows the story of a freelance journalist who finds himself in the midst of an international conspiracy that aims to control the U.S.S.R. Twelve hours after arriving in Moscow for a routine story, he has been stripped of all possessions, beaten unconscious and thrown into the KGB's political prison. Using only recovered weapons and improvised gadgets, he must now evade or overcome elite Soviet forces and defeat the conspiracy before he is sent to a Siberian prison camp or killed. NOTES: This is a BETA leak with debug capabilities. If you liked this release, please support the developers hard work by purchasing it when it's in stores. iNSTALLATiON: 1) Unrar 2) Burn or mount 3) Install/play GREETS: We'd like to thank Derek Smart for this fine release. Jury reaches verdict in Jackson trial!!

That mommy golddigger probably had them a little torqued off, and they didn't want to give her the satisfaction. Next up, the civil trial, where this gold digger doesn't have to meet the same criteria as in a criminal court. Jacko had better watch his wallet, she's coming after the green.... Yeah, I agree. But I think this time there is no way he is going to settle a civil case like he did the first time around. Besides, I really don't think there will be a civil suit. Not with this kind of verdict. I mean, ten counts is nothing to scoff at. And he was found not guilty on all of them. Thats gotta sting. I somehow tend to believe that MJ lives in a different world; but I have a hard time believing that he is a child molester. He just doesn't fit the profile. Being weird doesn't make you a child molester anymore than it makes you a serial killer. -

I'm so there on day one!! (this Wednesday). IGN has a review up. But since I don't pay any attention to what IGN has to say - about anything - take it with a grain of salt as YMMV.

I didn't see it and I don't plan to. I'm glad it flopped at the box office. This should (I hope) teach Hollywood that you can make an R rated movie without going over the top. I hear that the upcoming Land Of The Dead (which I don't plan on seeing either) is quite possibly the goriest movie ever made. Topping even Sin City which took the crown over from Saving Private Ryan.

Universal Combat - A World Apart, the race to gold

We're not doing any direct sales. The product will only be available online. If you happen to buy it from a site that can burn your purchase to CD-ROM, then you can go that route. -
Universal Combat - A World Apart, the race to gold
Supreme Cmdr replied to Supreme Cmdr's topic in News
When it goes online, there will be a notice posted everywhere. Several e-commerce partners (e.g. Trymedia) have special DRM software that needs integrating and testing. Since there is no SafeDisc retail type CD-ROM delivery, I have to implement a copy protection scheme (Starforce ProActive) which works with/without CD-ROM media. I have no intentions of releasing the game on one site (that does not require an e-commerce DRM e.g. BMT Micro) while the other sites aren't ready. Thats just not going to happen. Had this crap with Dreamcatcher not happened, the boxed version would have been on the shelves since May. But since there probably won't be a US retail boxed release (since I have no intentions of pissing around with that; unless someone gives me more money than I know what to do with), I have to ensure that all the e-commerce sites are happy. Releasing it to one before the others, is not a way to stay in business. I still remember that whole EB exclusive over BCM. Until then, all everyone has to do is wait. Its ready when its ready. Right now, it ain't ready. [ 06-13-2005, 08:21 AM: Message edited by: Supreme Cmdr ] -

I'm not a publisher who goes about doing dishonest nonsense like advertising ludicrous system requirements for games. If I say the minimum is a 2Ghz, then thats what it is. Period. That has nothing to do with the fact that if you go around pissing all over the universe (as large as it is) and activating AI units willy nilly, that its going to hold up. It will, but at the sacrifice of gameplay. Which means you have to go back to Config and tweak your settings. The minimum requirements for my games are as they appear on the product page and I stress test them on those configs before I decide on final specs. quote: Originally posted by Cruis. In: no I don't think so, I think my pentium 4. 3.0 HT will be enough to handle the game. You'll be in heaven. Literally. Then again, you've probably played the demo (which is in fact based on an older code base).

It will KILL your system if you don't have a high-end system. No joke. From my first impressions, I recommend 2.4Ghz CPU or higher 512MB RAM or higher Any nVidia/ATI video card manufactured in the past year and half with at *minimum* 128MB RAM. I played it on my gaming rig with no problems @ 1024x768 everything on high 3.2Ghz CPU 1GB RAM ATI X800 w/256MB (AGP)

Well, the demo is out. Anyone try it yet? I tried it. Its more of the same, but if you're a fan, thats not a bad thing. One thing though, it reeks of the Desert Combat mod which the [now closed] Trauma studios did for the original BF1942 game. Just a bit more polished.

It has been confirmed that XBox 360 will be backwards compatible with XBox games IF you have the hard drive add-on. To do this, XBox 360, which uses ATI chipset, will emulating the nVidia chipset in order to allow this. So, MS will be paying royalties to nVidia for each XBox 360 sold. You can read the final word here.

Check the reg page. The online VCF has also been updated. You have to positively read the VCF before applying this patch. You have been warned. For those of you new to UC. You need to install the v2.00.00 patch first, before installing this patch on top of it. WARNING: Due to users going from the base 2.00.00 patch to the current 2.00.xx patch; this patch WILL delete ALL saved games. So, if you are upgrading from 2.00.19 or higher, backup the files in the SAVE folder before applying the patch. If you run an mp server, you should also backup your UCSETUPMP.INI file. After applying the patch, copy them back to the SAVE folder. If you attempt to do this with any saved game version earlier than the specified version, good luck bud.
