  2. quote: Originally posted by Camaro76: Success! I put up a new picture showing the UZI in the game. It still sounds like the SCAT and there's nothing coming out the muzzle, but it works, at least. Did you put in the gun tag? If its missing, thats why it won't fire. As for sound, look in the DATAITEMMGR.INI file and you will see the name of the sound file used by each weapon. e.g. the SCAT1 uses PFIRE1.WAV which is located in the SOUNDFXFP.ZIP file. So, if you have an Uzi fire sound, just give it the same name and put it in the SOUNDFX or SCRIPTS (or any folder in any of the paths listed in the BCMSETUP.INI file) and it will use the new file instead. Congratulations! [ 11-25-2001: Message edited by: Supreme Cmdr ]

  4. 1. hehe, no 2. The shield level is determined by the type of shield. Check the appendix/upgrade section. btw, I see you haven't registered the game. Get over there NOW!!!
  5. quote: Originally posted by Sadistic: Alright, all my questions but one were answered, thank you. The one that was answered is about orbitting. On pg 52 of the manual, second and third paragraphs (not including the cut-off sentence at the very top) it tells you how to orbit. But if you follow those instructions exactly you will planetfall at 150km, not 100km like it says there. (well, more like 149.3km, but whatever) And if you hyperspace to a planet you cannot stop yourself from planetfalling. I actually haven't tried this, but maybe you could then go straight up and out of the planet again and THEN do the things it says (shut off engines etc.) I'll try that, but I need some clarification, can you orbit or not. 1. The manual is correct 2. If you hyperjump to a planet (as NID target), you will be prompted if you want to make planetfall. Guess what happens if you enter N when prompted.
  6. I don't think people are reading my dev diaries. Anyway, the FREE multiplayer patch (also part of the XP1 add-on) won't be out to the public (obviously the Beta testers would have it long before then) until Q1 next year. I'm taking it easy in December and will spend the rest of the year with my family, catching up with my old friends, putting out post-release fires (as I have been doing this week of BCM's release), hiring personnel for the auxilliary team on BCTC and the XP add-ons, and of course, suing the pants off those who have made it their favorite past-time to libel me, tarnish my rep and defame me. So, I hope this answers the questions about the mp patch that I have been seeing in the forums. If you bought* and are playing BCM, then you already know that it is everything I said it would be - and one hellaciously complex piece of work. As such, multiplayer is not going to be some kludged together hack job or some variation of ..pass the buoy. The multiplayer design is just as complex as all the high-end features in the game itself. And since 2002 is going to see two BCM add-ons, with the next major BC title, BCTC, not due out until late 2003, the mp of BCM has to be solid enough, coupled with the add-ons, to keep the company going financially until BCTC is out. I don't mention BCO in this equation because its a different ballgame altogether and due to stiff competition, I'm keeping tight lipped about it. Trust me, if you think BCM is great now - just wait. Remember, my company is 100% self-funded. By me. So, I can't go out and collect $2m to do a title. Lets put it this way, I've already turned down offers to do just that (BCM etc) and I don't plan on reversing that...unless you want the BC games to degenerate into a shooter and me hung from the rafters for insubordination (can you imagine me, Derek Smart, answering to anyone? No seriously, can you?) So, there you have it. *Unless you're a pirate and didn't pay for it, you lowlife, b*stard! [ 11-26-2001: Message edited by: Supreme Cmdr ]
  7. OK. Listen up! Here is a list of things to do if you are having install problems with the 1.0.01 patch. Download the patch again. It now contains some new files which were previous available separately. Go to Control Panel/Add Remove and uninstall the game Use Explorer and delete the folder where you installed the game e.g. C:Program FilesBattlecruiser Millennium Install the game Download and install DirectX 8.1 if you have not done so already. The first release of BCM uses DX 8.0a (included on the CDROM). The 1.0.01 version uses DX 8.1. Download and install the LATEST drivers for your video card, sound card and mouse. nVidia owners need the latest WHQL drivers or XP 2250 or higher drivers. I use 2280 Copy the BCM1001.EXE file INTO the folder where BCM is installed. Execute it using Explorer or the Start/Run dialog. Run the game. Do NOT modify ANY of the settings in Configuration. Just run the game, check it out and make sure everything is fine. Then quit and go and make any configuration changes you wish. READ the updated FAQ included in the DOCS folder if you have any issues not covered here. Note that ALL patches are incremental. So, you never need a previous patch installed in order to use any new version. All patches include previous patch updates and a new patch can be installed on top of itself or an older patch, without any consequences. [ 11-28-2001: Message edited by: Supreme Cmdr ]

  9. This was already posted. It is a different issue entirely from the previous fix. This is already fixed and listed in the VCF This is why we have started deleting and relocating posts. Lets try and keep the dupes to a mininum please. I don't want to have to wade through a lot of crap each time I do a forum pass, in order to get to the important issues. 11. Also remember that artifacts that are system upgrades (e.g. shield, reactor) are not subject to RE analysis.

  13. quote: Originally posted by Ravonaf: Pre-patch I am able to run the game fine. Post patch is when I run into problems. I never ran the beta patch. When I run with the new patch the game crashes to desktop after I select a new game or I try to load a saved game. I've uninstalled the game and removed the install directory. Reinstall with out the patch and the game works. I install the patch and it's a no go. This is also a freshly loaded OS (less than a week loaded). Any help would be great. Download both the patch and the navdata update again. Apply the patch first (even if you had previously applied it. no problem). Then unzip the navdata files (which I had to re-upload). Then delete all files in the SAVE folder. The same goes for you Mitchel [ 11-25-2001: Message edited by: Supreme Cmdr ]

I started a new game and Resnig had an AI level of 25%, at least 4% more than any of my other bridge crew. More than any of my pilots. More than any of my engineers, my medics, or my marines. In short, Resnig was the smartest man on my ship besides myself. I was so scared I almost pissed myself. Is something like this supposed to happen?!? ROTFPMSL!!! Man, poor Resnig does have a bad rap doesn't he? *..Pissing Myself Laughing btw, I changed the topic to make it funnier. [ 11-25-2001: Message edited by: Supreme Cmdr ]

  22. To prevent the creation of too many duplicate threads, only admins and mods can create tech support threads. There is already a thread for tech support issues. Post there.
  23. Works fine here. Anyway, I re-uploaded the file. Yes, it should be 191K. Download it again and let me know please.
  24. quote: Originally posted by Commander Blake: really, I did not know, i was asking a question, I probably shoulda said Is 12% the border between red and yellow...and SC, i'm not asking for gameplay tips, I"m sorry, on my end of things, after reading the manual, and everything, this really does look like a bug to me, sorry if it's not, if something screwy just happened, that is only on my comp or something along those lines, I'm sorry...I'll go with your better judgement and leave it at this...thank you SC for pointing out this is just a false alarm...[ 11-25-2001: Message edited by: Commander Blake ] No need to apologize. It just burns my *ass when someone cries bug over something because either (a) they don't understand it (and should just *ask*!) or ( they didn't read the manual. 12% is a destroyed threshold. Rule of thumb, if the integrity falls to 15% or less, its a gonner. In fact, in some high-end components which rely on others, even 25% is pretty much a whacked system depending on the integrity values of the components which make up that system.
