Thanks. hehe, after the last two, I've had plenty of practice. The fact that the open issues (none so far that I can see) are few, is testament to our Beta test commitment and the hard work put in by the Beta testers over the months. Though I must admit, that business about the crash when destroying a station with orbiting platforms, was my fault. Normally, you'd find those stations on a planet. Not in space. I added them in space at the last minute because otherwise there would be no way for a Space Force Marine to have access to medical, weapons etc. So, I thought "....hmmmmm, floating supply stations!". So, I just added them to the system script (basic orbit command which am sure GBS modders are familiar with) - and hey presto!!! we had floating supply stations. This was primarily for multiplayer too, btw. So, who wouldn't thought that destroying their orbital reference object (the station) would have such ramifications. Damn programmers. I should be publicly flogged. But I hope you guys would just settle for the freebies in the upcoming patch as a compromise cuz I can't take another flogging this week. As for the exit transition persistence (if you evac in space while flying the CC, it won't auto-quit as it should. You have to do it manually using ALT+Q), again, any good commander knows not to scuttle their craft. All in all, its looking good and am quite pleased. As soon as we can get these initial quirks out of the way, we can hunker down and get the mp patch up and running in Beta.

I have pretty much the EXACT same spec that he does:1 ghz Thunderbird w/VIA chipset 768 MB ram Windows ME GeForce 3 SB live value I've installed the latest bios upgrades for the VIA chipset, I've got Detonator 21.83, and the latest DirectX. The game crashes almost randomly. When I leave a vehicle. When something blows up. When I just fly around for awhile, etc. I am actually going to go out and get Windows XP today and reformat my machine. It's long overdue. I'll let you know if this solves my problem. Ian *sigh* Though you were planning on running XP, you shouldn't have to do that just for this. Anyway, carry on. We will try to isolate the problem using Mule as a guinea pig.

CTD When Leaving Navitron (resolved)

Anyone know how to reliably reproduce this one? I've tried it on 9 machines and can't seem to get to CTD. -
Config key mappings...(resolved)
Supreme Cmdr replied to AlbietheOne's topic in Battlecruiser Series
quote: Originally posted by AlbietheOne: Yes I did hit save and I also went to the folder and double checked to see that the config settings were set and they registered my custom set But when I went into first person mode all controls were set back to normal , however I again went to the config folder and my custom settings were still intact I wouldnt waste your time on a trival matter that mere reading would fix, Oh no this is a matter that I cant seem to be able to figure out with your faq & help files read twice All is not lost because ive sence went back to the default settings which btw arent tooo bad I think I know whats happening. Its not a bug. The movement control keys cannot be remapped (and shouldn't even appear in CONFIG). The game uses them internally in order to prevent mishaps associated with someone remapping a key that is used elsewhere in the game. So e.g. W,S,A,D,Q,E,F,Z will remain unchanged in the game, no matter what you do in CONFIG. In fact, I'm going to disable that screen. The game uses far too many commands and its going to be a nightmare to trap each instance when playing in a ship, shuttle, fighter, vehicle of first person. Which is why, during the Beta, I disabled the ability to remap other keys. I know fp gamers are used to remapping their keys, but BCM is not primarily an fp game and as such, there are a myriad of things that can go wrong (such as what you pointed out). In fact, the right mouse button (button 01) is used internally to control the dynamic mouse look (click+drag in desired direction). So, guess what will happen if you mapped that key to, say, Walk? Yep, you won't have mouse look. You can map it, but the game will overwrite it internally to prevent what I just described from happening. -
quote: Originally posted by Guybert: SC One question though, as I said it was late last night and my eyesight wasn't perhaps at it's best, the HUD seems coarser in apperance than that in the E2 demo. That is, the numbers and lines seem thicker. Is this the case? Is it possible to make them finer? (OK that's 2 questions). I appreciate you have a ton more important issues on your plate right now, but if you can find the time to respond I'd be grateful. Also, if this is covered in the FAQ or VCF then I apologise in advance, just thought I'd ask since I was posting my impressions. Cheers. Dunno. But you could try changing the fonts. Check the FAQ for info on how to do this.

There aren't any yet because I have not released the GBS-II tools. I don't plan to until things have settled down.

And the fact that you can't move when shot, is part of the realism aspects of the game. I may relax it...if people ***** enough.

OK, status on this one. I found a way to reproduce it. Its fixed now. The score: US (EFM*): 2 THEM: (BUG*): 0 Next! EFM = Elite Force Marine BUG = Bastards Under Guise (what?!?) [ 11-21-2001: Message edited by: Supreme Cmdr ]

OK, this is definitely caused by older drivers. I went and used older GF2 drivers and was able to reproduce it. Upgrade to 21.83 WHQL drivers and let me know if that fixes it on your end.

I went to bed around 1am and I was back up at 4.45am.

I hope this all made sence,im not good at writing letters. [ 11-21-2001: Message edited by: jbarrek27 ] What happens when you press ESC? Anyway, I think the game is waiting for input. If the line stays White, thats an indication of that. The way it works is pn p5 of the manual. The only issue in CONFIG that I plan on changing by removing it from CONFIG is the mapping of the mouse button 01 (right mouse button). The fp mouse look is hardcoded so, even if you use that button (i.e you change it to walk forward), it will be ignored in the game. Anyway, first things first. Upgrade to DX 8.1 as well as Windows Media Player 7.1. Also make sure you are using the latest drivers that 3Dfx released for the V4 (or at the very least the x3Dfx drivers. check the FAQ for links). Remember, the game requires DX 8 and those drivers are not certified for it. So, there's not much that I can do. Hence the warning on the game box. Try the above and we'll go from there.

OK, I can't reproduce this on my GF2 GTS. So, I need more info. Particularly these. Also, I'm going to assume that you are ALL running the 21.83 WHQL drivers for the GF2 and the latest mouse drivers. At what point do you lose the mouse pointer? Does the same thing occur when you are on the bridge? e.g. on a Battlecruiser What happens to the mouse cursor if you go from the bridge to a Frontend system (e.g. Tactical, Logistix etc) and vice versa? What version of MouseWare, Intellimouse etc? I need a guinea pig to uninstall the mouse program e.g. Intellimouse, MouseWare etc and reboot. This will cause the system mouse to be use. You can re-install it later. Then try the above. Does it work then?

In fact, you followed procedure by giving as much info as possible. Thats great. OK, from what I can tell, if you can't even start a new game, then its definitely a hardware problem - especially with all those components you have. Try these for me please. Use Add/Remove to uninstall the game. Then kill the folder. Re-install and leave the default folder alone Install the latest VIA 4-in-1 drivers Install nVidia 21.83 WHQL drivers Lower the performance tab on your sound (in multimedia properties) and video card (in display properties) Try running an IA scenario If that works, try SNG Once I've got a response to the above, if you are still having problems, I'll get out the big guns and we'll go on a search and destroy mission. I just love hardware issues. [ 11-21-2001: Message edited by: Supreme Cmdr ]

OK, I've reproduced and fixed this one. Its related to the orbital code. The station is in orbit and thats why it doesn't happen when other objects blow up. It should also happen on an ODS or space supply station actually. I am going to investigate some other problems already reported and which are clear for me to understand. Once I do, if they are reproducible, there will be a fix released later today. It won't be the final 1.0.01 patch since its not fully cooked yet, but this particular problem is a CAT 1 classification.

(a) The craft ( The environment (space or planet) To see all the rules (I should probably put that in the next manual re-print), read the Beta VCF in the 2.4.01 GC2 section I am going to run some more tests on a few other machines. But from what I'm reading, it seems as if the end transition is not automatically quitting when it should. Until I find out whats going on (it works fine here), just use ALT+Q and Y to exit as normal. [ 11-21-2001: Message edited by: Supreme Cmdr ]

What does latest Detonator drivers mean? You're kidding right?
-
OK, then its something common to those boards. I suspect driver problems. I have a GF2 GTS here running the 21.83 drivers and the mouse is fine.
-
OK. I understand. Just making sure that you were a disruptor or something. We don't take too kindly to newbies who start posting messages such as yours, out of the clear Blue sky. In fact, normally, it would be deleted. Anyway, I am SURE that you are moving. If you are expecting to move at 80 mph like other fps games, thats not going to happen. Press the backspace key to toggle run mode, then press the W key and you will see that you move faster (9 mps). There is NO reason why you shouldn't be able to move. None. You STILL have not provided your system specs. [ 11-20-2001: Message edited by: Supreme Cmdr ]

Do you have enough disk space? You need at least 500MB free. Also, try deleting the folder and ALL files in your C:TEMP or C:WINDOWSTEMP or C:WINNTTEMP, then try to install. You can also try to install by double-clicking on the .MSI file on the CDROM. If you have Windows Installer on your machine, then it should work.

There IS a reason I deleted this thread before. In the future, if you don't create threads with decriptive subjects, they will be deleted. No it doesn't. Its waiting for input. Read the manual. Read the other thread about this Yeah right Goto #1 Goto 7 No Once I dig up my crystal ball from the pile of crap over there in the corner, I'll use it to inspect your system config. I suppose all the people playing it out of the box are just lying. Yeah OK. The VCF doesn't contain ANY entries of what you are reporting. So, a patch is not going to solve your problem - no matter what they are. If you feel that the game is unplayable out of the box, grab your receipt, go to EB and get a refund. Whatever you do, if you post another impolite message like this, you WILL be banned. NO QUESTIONS ASKED. You must be mistaken this forum for one of the other gaming forums gamers like you misuse and abuse.
