  1. I'm with Sir John on this mostly because I guess I'm in the same boat. But on the flip side, I certainly see where SC is coming from. In fact, I think if I was him, I wouldn't release it. But I'd love to play with it, so if I put my gamers hat on, I say hell yeah, release it. But I respect and understand the ground rules associated with an unsupported product. Basically, there's the beta testers and the general public. GBS2 belongs in the beta testers hands but not the general public. Unfortunately there is a 3rd group (perhaps like Falstaff and myself) that are not beta testers but are capable and respect the rules.
  2. Hmmm, never tried that. I always HJ to the star station and I think I usually come out of it around 50 km away but I'm not sure. I always cloak before jumping anyway, so I have never been lit up by the station with this approach. I have had good luck, coming out of these encounters relatively unscathed but that might be more to do with the fact that I am in friendly space (Terran) for the most part. I'm going to upgrade my CC more, before I venture into more hostile space. EDIT: Actually, I should also say that I always take out any hostile ODS (if present) before tackling the station.
  3. Sir John, you are my hero, my inspiration In all seriousness, I have been roleplaying a Ter/Mil newbie commander who is responsible for capturing all hostile space stations and destroying all hostile ODSs in Terran space. I think I am almost done (and have gotten fleet command in doing so ). Being the newbie that I am, I did destroy a couple rather than capture, whoops. But I'll go back to those later after they rebuild.
  4. Is this guy an idiot? He could make a fortune doing the late night TV circuit in the US. An interview with Time, Barbara Walters, on and on. This guy is worth a fortune if he could ever get on US soil.
  5. Releasing a review dissing a MMO game on launch day is extremely lame. I'm not condoning this trend of charging people to beta test, but the reality is that well, get use to it. Early adopters always get screwed, why should this be different?
  6. quote: before i start a mission, id scout out the route i was to travel, and deploy 1 drone on that route. Gray, just curious. Why didn't you deploy all 4 drones at the same time? I guess I don't see why staggering them helps when they fill up simultaneously anyway.
  7. Sounds like a similar premise to a couple of my all time favorites, The Road Warrior and The Omega Man. I'll have to check this out. Thanks!
  8. 0% to 40% inflation pop. Thats a good one. Are those dudes friendly to Terran Mil? I haven't ventured to that area yet.
  9. And one is still open and discussing the game!! *gasps* Kahkhing (the sound of money entering my pocket, refers back to EQ days. Umm nm. ) over there is my double.
  10. quote: 7.5/10 due to the agonizingly slow start, and the frame in frame crap. I liked the frame in frame thing. I thought it was very comic bookish.
  11. quote: I also have a radio-shack, voice activated, two way radio. I carry it on me when I travel from the computer room so I can hear the emergency klaxon even if I'm outside. Well I'm not that insane, but I'm close. I use a baby monitor. After a really nasty fight when I need to do mega repairs and rest my crew, I'll get the parts I need from the closest station and park my CC. Then carry the baby monitor receiver into whatever room I'm hanging out in. This is if I'm lazy. If I don't want to bother with the monitor, I'll park my CC on a planet near a friendly base and then I don't have to worry about being attacked (or do I? )
  12. quote: in witch way can I replace a destroyed MK1 on my cruiser ? Go to a starstation -> tradcom and look for "shuttle asset" or "fighter asset" (depending on what you need). Buy it. Then go to logistix -> cargo and there should be some way to transfer the asset to its launch bay. Forgot exacly how.
  13. quote: Violations don't get decreased Undetectable cargo in shuttles that are launched, is not a loop hole. If you don't dock with the shuttle, how will they know? Where's the loophole? It works as designed. My turn at resurrecting an old thread. Since this thread's info still seems to be true for BCM, I thought this was a good place to ask about violations. I've been playing around in sectors where I'm picking up illegal contraband. I was being careful keeping it out of prying eyes but I finally got caught at Mars station (Starpath?) so I received my first violation. I didn't notice any impact, but I'm wondering if I also received a EP hit (I don't think so) or a financial hit/fine (maybe)?
  14. Saw it yesterday. I thought it was an amazing film, kudos to Ang Lee. I thought it was about 30 minutes too long. Spectacular effects, the Hulk was very cool. Oh and umm, Jennifer Connelly is hot. I also caught the T3 trailer (good thing it was the last, because I slept through the 30 minutes of ads and other previews). This is going to be the blockbuster of the summer. Bring it on, I'm ready.
  15. quote:Though not many of you here seem tobelieve such a thing could ever happen, as if it were taboo to touch a piece of gaming pie, which imo, could easily be touched on more. I think you are missing the point. The reason why most think its unlikely to happen is because its no longer viable from a financial and marketing standpoint. There aren't many, if any, publishers willing to shell out the amount of capital necessary to develop a product of this nature, for a very small market. In other words, there's no money in it. It takes a guy like SC who, as an independent, seems willing (maybe nuts enough?) to play in this niche area. The amount of money it takes to develop games these days is considerably larger than, say, 10 years ago. So... if a publisher (they usually front the money) is going to layout perhaps millions of dollars for development, he needs to make damn sure its not going to tank. The risk/reward for sims is just to great to gamble on. Bottom line.
  16. Well we can hope this gets released at some point. Although I can't find any recent information, so maybe its dead. Thank god the BC series is still alive.
  17. OMG, where did you find this, ubergeek.com? I'm not part of the wrong forum task force, but you might want to move this to General discussions.
  18. The wife is away for a few days so I have some nice alone time on my hands. I figured I would get someone else's take on the year 3000AD so I rented this DVD last night. Big mistake. I'm sorry to say I wasted 2 hours of my life on this. I kept waiting for it to entertain me but instead it put me to sleep, literally. How you can screw up such excellent subject material is beyond me. 2/10 With 2 points given for making a great sedative. Anyone like it? Oh and there is good news. While at BB renting BE, I bought the new extreme edition of T2. Firing that baby up tonight on my 57" WS HDTV with DD 5.1.
  19. I think Mace Griffin will have this. Its being developed by the same folks that did Starlancer (Warthog), so expect more arcade than sim.
  20. quote: BCMG is my first taste and I want more! I don't blame you. First, this info is pretty readily available here on the forums. Try searching using "BCO" and you will find some discussion. My take on it is that, first, BCG (and BCMG leading up to it) should keep you happy for more than enough time for the SC to bring out BCO. BCO will be the MMO version of BCG and due to its online nature (like other MMOs eg. EQ), it will continuely evolve and grow and accomplish the same thing as if the SC continued to release new versions of the franchise. Although I believe it is true, that he is looking to move on to something new beyond the Xbox project. In the meantime, use BCMG as training wheels for BCG. Thats pretty much where I'm at. edit: oh and one thing I forgot. If BCG sells well enough, there's always the chance to release expansion packs that add some of the stuff that had to get cut.
  21. LOL!! Sorry Jas, I'm not laughing at you. Its just that those posts are 3 years old!!
  22. quote: I gotta tell you I think this flick is going to be Big.. I mean HUGE. There is one little factor that could keep it from reaching HUGE status. Its the summertime competition, including especially, a little flick coming out in a couple of weeks staring some dude with the initials "AS".
  23. Congrats and bottoms up! (In more ways than one)
  24. quote: If I remember right(not at my XP machine at the moment) but you can turn off the windows key for applications in XP. Hmmm, you may be right. In the shorcut properties -> compatibility under "input settings" there is a button you can check "turn off advanced text services for this program". Could that be it? (although it doesn't sound right) Apparently, the default is unchecked. I ended up using Grizzle's registry edit idea above which worked like a charm, but thanks Emmett.
  25. quote: Why are we commanders and not Captains? I mean, we captain a ship, not a space station. We don't command a ship? Maybe I'm not getting your point? Oh and noobism. You are what you are. If you act like, smell like, look like... a noob. Then you are a noob. I'm happy in nooby land. The minute I feel all cocky and do something vet-like, I'm going to do something stupid to stay in nooby land. Maybe I'm weird. No I'm definitely weird.
