Universal Combat Tutorial Discussions
Spindoktor replied to Supreme Cmdr's topic in Universal Combat Series
Well, I just wanted to thank the SC for the excellent tutorial. In addition to being an excellent noob guide, it acts as a great refresher for those that have been away from the game a few months! I'm sure most BC/UC gamers step away from the game on occasion, but the hardcore will always come back. -
Space Sims aren't dead until the Supreme Commander says they are!

Back to the game... Chapter 15 sucks. But I still love the game.
-
I'm playing through for the first time now. I'm on Chapter 14 and taking my time simply because I don't want it to end. This is old school gameplay, with 2004 visuals. The game is hard, but once you get past level 5 or so, everything seems to click and you start pulling off combos easily. Each level I get a few Game Overs figuring out the bosses or in some case the ordinary enemy. Even the ordinary enemies will kick your ass if you are sloppy blocking or not rolling out of a bad position. Great game, easily a AAA title.

Yeah, the AI has genetically improved hearing. Maybe thats part of the story? There's something going on with a genetic scientist right? Anyway, the key is to move after shooting. Stay put and your toast. Best FPS since Half Life. The gameplay is THAT good IMO. Its not just eye candy.

Duke Nukem Forever - New Info!!

Link to Nathan Kell's "all in one" build 10.1 that makes PoTC a much better game, i.e. brings back Sea Dogs 2 somewhat.

I just played through this demo. Maybe I'm easy to please, but I was impressed. Halo killer? Not sure why its compared to Halo. Yeah they both have aliens. If anything, Halo is formulaic gameplay, albeit, very well done. Breed seems to be trying to do something new, and deeper. In the Breed demo, you start out on a capital ship in space outside the Earth's atmosphere, load a tank on a dropship, jump in the dropship. Pilot the dropship through space, enter the earth's atmosphere, dogfight some alien fighters, take out 2 or 3 SAM sites. Then you land, jump into the tank, unload it from the dropship. You and 2 or 3 buddies move through a set of waypoints, taking out aliens with the tank. Jump out of the tank and fight on foot, giving commands to your buddies, Freedom Fighters style. Don't confuse it with UC/BC, this is NOT a sim. But I thought it was pretty cool. Its probably mission based. Maybe it compares more to Knightblade, but only the SC could say.

Wow, great stuff. This is giving me the itch to play. Bleh, back to work. The Gams will have to wait.

quote: No comment. Just wait and see. In fact, I'm not even sure that Resnig is part of the KnightBlade crew. I just had a funny thought. Picture this as the opening movie of KB. You are on a shuttle heading to a combat zone. Your character is looking straight ahead, and the guy next to you is talking your ear off about how important it is to cover your buddy to survive the upcoming mission, blah blah blah. You turn to your right and there is your buddy, smiling, wearing a "Resnig" patch on his uniform. Of course, only BC/UC gamers would get it. heh

These sound like awesome products. Its a lot to look forward to for years to come! From UCE2E: "In battles between Terran military personnel and insurgents, players vie for control of space and planetary regions in large skirmishes featuring 64 player multiplayer deathmatch and base capture game modes." This sounds like "Battlefield" type conquest gameplay? Or is it more like each man for his own? Either way, sounds exciting. EDIT: NM, I see you already answered this. As for KB, I know its mission based. But is it linear or non-linear? *Hopes for non-linear*

This is good news. The disparaging nature of that board really got under my skin. -
Crash while in hyperspace with revised engine profile
Spindoktor replied to Lestat9's topic in Universal Combat Series
I also can't reproduce the CTD. Here's what I experience: After shutting down the engine in logistix/power, HS (from the bridge) indicates the engine is off. However, when I go back into logistix/power and turn it back on, the bridge HS indicator still indicates the the engine is off. After coming out of HS, it shows -1. Selecting Hdrive and turning on the engine from there, returns everything to normal. -
LOL!! I love the Anon quote.

Luckily I had another shuttle that was doing a cargo sweep at the time, pull me into Wraith Station where I bought some more, but afterwards when I looked at the shuttle, there was the rest of my Iridium! LOL, thats a great intruder story. I can't get enough of these intruder stories. These guys are fun.

Drones destroyed on extract
Spindoktor replied to Magnum Milspire's topic in Universal Combat Series
This thread points out one of the very cool things about BC/UC. Weird, what seems like random things can happen that make the world seem so much more real to me. quote: Is the AE supposed to incur radiation poisoning on the surface of Earth? I noticed this as well Why not? I dunno, maybe his suit malfunctioned. quote: To my horror they did not have drones on them...said they had been destroyed! I have been playing the series from the DOS version to UC and have never come across a situation like this before. Isn't that kinda neat? You were thrown a curveball that you never could have anticipated. I see stuff in BC/UC all the time that makes me pause. I just don't run to this board looking to post what I think is a bug. Not to knock you guys, its just a different way of looking at the game perhaps. -
Think I'll name my UC roam game cruiser (haven't decided which one yet) Fearless in honor of Honor Harrington.

Kicked Out of Game with RC4
Spindoktor replied to Darkken Nightshade's topic in Universal Combat Series
quote: Does anyone know what "enable write combining" does? Windows can answer that question for you. Just click the "?" in the upper right corner of the window that option is displayed (troubleshooting tab I think) and click on the option for an explanation. I've seen it suggested to turn that off for other games. Might be worth a try if you are experiencing graphic anomolies. -
Just saw the video.. WOW, what a fun flick. It featured excellent acting, especially Mark Wahlberg. Wahlberg's team had great chemistry and Ed Norton plays a great villain. Norton is one fine actor. Easily 9/10.

Kicked Out of Game with RC4

First of all, this belongs in tech. support. Also, you need to supply detailed information of what caused the CTD so that it can be reproduced. -
quote: sorry Spindoktor i don't understand..you say i can't issue orders in commander career mode before i become fleet c&c commander? No no. I was just explaining why you can command all marines in the last IA scenario. I'm not sure why you can't command your own marines in your career mode. Sorry for the confusion.
-
quote: i try the last istant action scenario dedicated to MM marine on planet and in this case i can issue orders to all marines and so what the difference with career mode??? The reason why you can issue orders to all marines in that last IA scenario is because you are given fleet C&C at the beginning.
