  1. Actual huh? here are some actual responses. 1) And have it Pollute the ground? 2) Why? 3) Can do. Not all of them but gardening is fun. 4) Nope. 5) Why not? 6) Nah. I would love to buy a hybrid though. It would save me money and conserve energy. It's your right to buy what you like. 7) Yeah right, build only SUV's 8) Ludicrous 9) see response 8 10) see response 8 11) I need to quit somehow. 12) No 13) Why? It's very good wood. I foresee lumber companies managing growth and old growth becoming a premium product. 14) No 15) When I bring home $1250 a month I'll buy everyone a generic soda. 16) An enviromental group said this? I pretty much have. Good advice. 17) Don't watch it much anyway. On the net too much. 18) Maybe. Would take some major scheduling. 19) No 20) No 21) Ehhh maybe. 22) Not only no but hell no. Though I do think some sports star wages are ridiculous. Life ain't fair. Roll over and whimper. (sarcasm) 23) I actually like this one. Elected officials (note change in description) are supposed to serve the public. They shouldn't get rich while doing it. 24) Nope. Which proportion? Ethnic groups? Religious groups? 25) Maybe. In this day and age it could be done. 26) Huh? I think we need our spies but the other I have no knowledge of. 27) WTF? 28) Why? No knowledge. 29) In my soil? see response 8 30) No 31) This one just really hit a nerve. I love my pet more than anything in the world. He has been my best friend and companion for nine years. I cannot imagine life without him. What resource would I have saved by not owning and caring for him? What wack group put that forth? No one should own pets. Now we have a bunch of feral animals running around. What would you do with them then? The rewards I receive from owning a pet far outweigh any of the negatives I simply can't imagine. He eats, sleeps, poops, and provides me with companionship. Granted his poop stinks but it's fertilizer. Where is the negative? So far as any resources go I worked for them. I paid for them. I can use them how I see fit (in the context of owning a pet. Food, etc.) If there is any debt to society for having a friend I have repaid it in spades. The food I buy makes a profit for the store I bought it from which in return makes a profit for the distributor they bought the food from. The vaccinations to keep him safe to be around other humans and other animals are in the hundreds of dollars by now. I would gladly pay hundreds more. Some of this is profit ot the vet so he can stay in business. That's the debt and I'll gladly pay it. I'll keep my friend thank you. If a human being cannot show care and compassion to an animal they are no better than that very same animal. What is the environment for if not animals? 32) Part of 31 and I don't care much for venison. 33) See response 8 34) See response 8 35) No. Nice to keep your money local but it would be impossible. I know someone who only buy products from his local vendors. That is cool. Keeps his mooney and taxes in his town. But to limit it to products only is stupids. I suppose only Detroit residents could buy cars but where would they get the gas from? 36) No 37) I don't want it broken. 38) Sounds nice. They would darn sure make sure theirs was safe. 39) a] Sure b] No. On Top of the income tax I pay to get the money?. On top of the sales tax on my money (already taxed) that I have to give to get the product? Now you want to tax me to throw it away? NO. Besides, they'll just up the sales tax to compensate for that if they have the mind. 40) Sounds nice but ridiculous. Catch them and fine them. 41) I suppose this is to avoid the refuse tax. 42) No 43) No 44) It takes more energy to use detergent, water, and electricity to wash a cloth product than it does to produce and flush the relatively tiny amount of paper product that goes down with what you are going to flush anyway. You are going to pay anyway. Choose the cheapest. Tis how the disposable diaper industry survived a grass roots "movement/wish/public cryout" against disposable diapers. 45) I can do that. 46) NO. I made it; I keep it. That said I have given money panhandlers. I have even given a 15 mile ride to a hitchhiker. Depends on whether I beleive them. 47) No. At one time in history unions served a good purpose. I beleive they are now bloated. 48) goes with gardening response somewhere way up at the top. 49) Huh? So we don't preserve any species? 50) If I wanted to I would just take a day off. Shingen, None of the rants above were aimed at you personally. [ 05-18-2001: Message edited by: Charles Lindsey ]
  2. This question sure has made the rounds. Looking at one myself. On one of the rounds this spec page popped up. You can thank Cato for this link. [ 05-18-2001: Message edited by: Charles Lindsey ]
  3. Just had to commment. quote:The story seems to be working better by the fact that no one really knows what's going on, but has to 'create on the fly'. This is the way the first RP threads on this forum started. Go with it. It works great. "Moderated" stories such as the ones Blades runs also have merits. So long as the story is good I like it.
  4. I like anything sci-fi that's even halfway decent. I haven't been able to watch it every week because the local station has been playing with air times but I like it. Tech is unique to each universe and so as long as it makes sense and is consistent I can believe it as part of the story.
  5. Another brain dead idea before trying all that nasty rewrite stuff. Can't you let it boot to A: ; change the ms-dos prompt to c: ; and type WIN to try to get windows 3.11 to start? Just an idea. The other guys will have to tell you the commmand. It's something like "cd c:"
  6. Awww, c'mon boss. Can't I incite a small riot every once in a while?
  7. LOL I forgot about the peace treaty. SC would have been going for you and Rattler would have been after me. quote:You're just sore 'cause we took the initiative...*grin*. Nope, the thought never entered my mind. I'm sure it would have occurred to someone sooner or later. Just it was you and Alun and much much sooner than I would have thought. quote:I'm kinda proud of the achievements this little community has made. Me too.
  8. quote:[rp] What, like causing social and political upheaval and actively promoting violence in a rebel civil war that has caused death or injury to millions? You mean THOSE underhanded tactics? [/RP] Actually no, I meant the underhanded tactic of inserting spies into other fleets. RP wise it was cool. Real life Player wise it was not cool. But it did turn into a good RP thread.
  9. quote:nothing of major interest has gone through Are you absolutely sure of that?
  10. Way to go Pugwash! You make a Fleet Commander proud! [sniff]
  11. BCFreak13 don't get upset. We are not trashing Star Wars. Remember the title of this thread is ship vs ship. Which I take to mean one on one. Star Wars, even if you take only the movies, is a highly populated galaxy/universe. The only thing that could compete with them would be other highly populated universes like Babylon 5. Then you have to say that everyone in one universe is against every one in the other universe. Personally I think the shadow ships from Babylon 5 would team with the Empire from Star Wars. All the good guys from Babylon 5 would side with the rebels from Star Wars and they would gain more members as they went on. Ship vs ship: What about a solarian class interceptor from BC3k against a TIE fighter? In Star Wars a Tie fighter vs X wing; one could take the other out with a couple good shots. Solarian interceptors have shields so all else being fairly equal it's a no brainer to me. What about a B5 fighter against a TIE fighter? Any Wing Commander fighter against a TIE fighter? Any Wing Commander fighter against any BC3K fighter? Some interesting scenarios in there. Ship vs ship.
  12. [rp] quote:Don't forgot who penetrated who before the Gammulan War. Don't forget who was the first to try dirty, underhanded tactics. [/rp]
  13. First RTFM. The introduction about the alien races specifically. We are allowed what is in there; as in who likes and dislikes who, who is at war with who, and who is subjugating who. Be very careful what you introduce. It was either Turning of a Wraith or Cerebus Stirs where Gallion made heavy use of the gammulan military. Try reading those. Be very careful what you introduce though.
  14. One would think but that is not always the case. I hear there are stirrings within Galcom. ISS seems to be rumbling and I have it on good authority the traders down near Polaris are getting edgy. Seems Galcom ships have been scouting the area a good bit lately. Orion is still running around like the lemmings they are but Wraith seems to have disappeared like the spirit they purport to be. On the plus side our production is up, shipping to Destiny and New America seem to be going rather well, and several rounds of negotiations seems to be going well.
  15. I'd like to see someone play BCM while high on pot. Heh. "Awww maaaaaan where'd my fighters go?" If you haven't used pot then don't even try it. It only makes you stupid. Ever seen one of those utterly stupid Cheech and Chong movies? That is exactly how you will look to your friends. When you are high every thing in the world is funny. When you come back down it's like "I can't beleive I did that". It's not cool. I know, it was a fad for about a month with me. Sigh, I'll never be president now. I can agree with Rick that if it medically helps you then you should be able to use it. But if you don't have a medical need and only want to use it recreationally simply don't. Just don't. Don't.
  16. Have you also noticed that a very few of us are simply registered "A Long Time Ago!" ? Those of us like that registered in the first few days of this UBB board's existence. (I really should have edited but I wanted these two posts to be clean and unaltered)
  17. I'm one of them But I think he used to spell it out completely. Supreme Commander (I think) was #1 followed by Tin (justin, the web page guy) then a bunch of the old regulars. Something like that.
  18. Tac, I don't remember that Photon Torpedoes can travel at warp speed. They always show the torpedoes exiting the launch tube, they always show a few seconds travel time, THEN they show the explosion. If photon torpedoes travel at warp (faster than light right?) then the explosions would be instantaneous. Don't ST ships battle at sublight speeds anyway? So unless they zip in at warp, pop off a shot, zip back out, zip back in ad nauseum I don't think the hyperjump vs warp argument works. BCFreak13 wrote: quote:Remember that all of these ships are in different galaxies. That's my problem right there. I am assuming that ST photon torpedoes and the various BC3K missiles would pack about the same punch in this particular fictional scenario we are talking about. ST Phasers would pack about the same punch as the BC3K IOD and PTA and so on and so forth. I would have to give Warp speed to Star Trek and the weapons ranges. Given that ST wins even if weapons were totally comparable. I'm just thinking of the visually close battles one would get into in Starfleet Command. Entirely different from what everyone else is talking about. Nice theories. I enjoyed discussing.
  19. You know your getting old when you say - "Can I go to bed now?" Instead of "Do I have to go to bed now?"
  20. quote:Whats The First Game you Ever Played? Peek-a-Boo. It was definitely Peek-a-Boo.
  21. ST is not banned from this discussion. Outlaw just wasn't going to use it. Just Q and Jedi. Ship against ship. I forgot about the Defiant. I never did like Deep Space Nine all that much. Ya'll threw me a curve on the torpedo thing. If they are so blasted powerful why don't they destroy any ship that gets hit? I do watch the show but I'm not a technophile about it. But that's the rule of thumb for Voyager anyway. Voyager can destroy any ship up to ten times it's size yet has a near warp core breach from a shuttle armed with a BB gun. I still think given matching sizes a Star Trek ship would have a tough fight against a BC3K ship. Fun to talk about at least.
  22. Once again, as in the other thread; this was SHIP versus SHIP. No Jedi allowed. No Q are allowed. What we need are lengths and specs. Given a specific length one can argue the strengths of different ships. Certain ships in the BC universe are larger than certain ships in other universes so they would be more powerful. (unless you want to argue power conversion and let's not go there. ) Tac, I disagree with you. Just because Star Trek uses ANTIMATTER in their torpedoes doesn't mean they would annihilate anything they touch. I think they use antimatter to produce a specific yield of energy which the bc3k shields could absorb to a certain extent. I'm guessing it would be about the same as any BC3K missile. Interesting points submitted by everyone.
  23. Reuters Just found this little snippet in the news section. quote:Microsoft Corp. on Thursday took aim at the Linux operating system and other rival software that share their basic instruction codes with the public, saying such freely distributed "open source" software poses a threat to commercial intellectual property rights... ...He described the open software movement as "flimsy," "flawed," jeopardizing property rights and threatening to undermine the software industry, a key economic growth engine. Any thoughts? I think it's ridiculous and hope it doesn't go through. I hope Microsoft gets laughed out of whatever avenue they try to follow.
  24. That was funny. Had to snag that one and send it to some friends.
  25. If Joe Gamer sets up his own server and runs his own game then nothing will happen. He and his friends simply play the game. If JG decides to log onto an official server then he must be registered as something. That something will be persistent and stats will be logged. If JG decides to post on the forum he may or may not choose to use a sig that identifies him as that something. He may not wish to participate in an ongong board discussion of fleet matters. If he chose Ter/Gal he is simply Prime fleet by default. If JG plays as Insurgent he may not wish to post with an Insurgent sig. That is the way I understand it at this time.
