Because I wasn't the newbie welcome wagon until like August! (I'm pretty sure I greeted you, though, Urza..... Oh well.) And it was Blades' idea, to call me that! *points finger at Blades* Blades? Where'd ya go? (Oh yea! He's on leave until like Friday or later on the weekend.....)

quote:If I remember correctly, the max allowed on a server will be 16 for multiplayer. That could change, but I think 16 is max. I was sure that was the one for the Public servers. I think the Fleet Restricted Access ones can support up to 32, all of them have to be currently in the Fleet DB (so it includes UCV's). Once again, correct if wrong. quote:Do the players just choose a career and play it, occasionaly bumping into another player, or is it going to me like multiplayer instant action? Let's quote SC on this one; trust me, this is tight, read the whole thing: quote:The fact is that on fleet servers, there is no such thing as free-for-all. Members in a fleet will be expected to follow orders from fleet leaders (if online) and be able to continue on their orders if the FL is not online. Heck, people visit this forum a lot, and since the fleet exclusive servers will be persistent and have an ingame and external chat lobby, I don't see why the same frequency can't be adapted. The games I am goin to script are not going to be primarily free-for-all deathmatches (though they will be available). The idea is to create involving story based scripts which people play their role in. And since the server is persistent, you die, you're outta there until the script terminates etc All fleet related scripts will encompass space and planetary scenarios with varying goals, rewards and resolution phases. e.g. From simple... Ter/Mil are tasked with taking out a Ter/Ins probe. Well, first you've gotta find it. And no doubt the Ter/Ins guys are protecting it. To complex... Ter/Ins decided they're going to try an capture GHQ. How they plan on getting to Sol, and go past Prime, is anyone's guess. To the insane... Ter/Mil decides to take out New America. heh As I've said over and over and over - anyone who expects mp to be some run-of-the-mill garbage, is in for a shock. The game itself is not even close to being run-of-the-mill and I have no intentions of throwing together mp so that I can say it has it. If I wanted to do that, I would've done it. Mmmmm, scripted multiplayer. I hope it tastes like chicken. quote:If people can't make their own servers and each server can only accomodate 16 players, should I be concerned about the total number of people who can be on multiplayer at one time? Or does Gamespy have so many servers that this isn't an issue? ....don't know. Someone? (SC, or anyone else know??) quote:Oh, and btw, am I correct in saying that GCO will be a stand alone title? Correct. The MMOG of all time, man! More units and updates and such! Better yet: more power..... quote:Heh, this multiplayer thread has a lot more questions than answers. That's what the Vets (including myself, the NWW--newbie welcome wagon) are for...... UPDATE: Added the text at the top about the player limit. [ 10-03-2001: Message edited by: Cmdr Nova ]

Fleet Recruitment Reorganization Proposal
Cmdr Nova replied to aramike's topic in General Multiplayer Fleet Discussions
Notice: If you didn't know, Fleet DB registration will be closed from October 15, until the Multiplayer Patch for BCM goes public (as ordered by SC). Thank you, and now back to your regularly scheduled programming. -
Got Karl's email as well.....
-
Enderlin. You're gonna need one of the upcoming BC games (BCM, GCO, whatever...) to log into the new forums, if you're not an active known member of this forum. quote:If you don't like babysitting newbies, just don't reply and leave that work to the folks who enjoy it (like myself ) And me, Nava. Remember? *ahem* Newbie Welcome Wagon? (Is there a way I can make that official? LOL.)

I appreciate the hard work SC, the Team, the Beta guys, and the Admins have been doing. Handling n00bs and stubborn bast@%^$ on a daily basis... Working on the game... Keeping in touch with the forum... *applauds* quote:I've got TOO much time, effort and MONEY into this project and I don't plan on losing a nickel of it. And you're going to get what you paid for, I'm sure. Even more, you'll get (hmm... lets see.. 1, 2, 3, etc.) 1000 nickel's ($50 US) back, per unit! (minus the production and whatnot, of course!) Ahhh, how could you lose? You'll have my ca$h soon enough; once I have the PC to play it on, though. (And once I get one of my parents to let me use their credit card to order. *sigh* Being 14 sucks.)

Idea: Just rework it so it needs the registration from the new forum.......... So any future newbies will have to have the game. For now, we're purging inactives, and whatnot. At least we'll know we won't have any non-playing, lurking, fools who just love the fact that they're screwing with us and wasting our space. For that idea, you might need some reworking depending on changes in stuff with OpenTopic (or not; I'm not sure about any if/how things about using OpenTopic, and I don't know what you're doing with the current Fleet DB.). Then again, Justin always seems to be tight with that stuff anyways. Anyway, it'd be good, because 1) it keeps non-players out; 2) security really needs beefing up. Or you can do what Chavik said. Either way is cool. (Post 500!!!! 0.5k!!! *does a happy dance*) [ 10-02-2001: Message edited by: Cmdr Nova ]

Says "unregsitered" next to his name. You don't look at the margins (where the name and member # are) when you reply, don't you? Oooh, a plan. Can't wait to see it, SC.
-
Enjoy talking to a dead man, Kush? --- Flushing and having everyone re-register could be a good idea, in the meantime before the new forums are up. At least poor old Shirley's gonna be pissed. But then, that would sorta affect some lurkers, or those on leave. But they can re-register anyway, right? I'm not sure it's the best idea, but it's a good idea for now (at least before BCM is out and new forums and all are here). I'm wondering what everyone else thinks.

Fleet Recruitment Reorganization Proposal
Cmdr Nova replied to aramike's topic in General Multiplayer Fleet Discussions
How 'bout us that like our fleet? (Ep5 asked this earlier, IIRC) I joined Orion Fleet because I was given an offer. I was asked, I thought about it, then I said yes. I joined Orion fleet and I wouldn't appreciate it if I were moved.... That's just me, though. Don't like the pool idea. Nay, for me. Perhaps we should just purge the inactives, wait for the fresh BCM Newbie Recruit flood, double check the numbers and adjust as needed. First use the people that are volunteering/requesting to move. After volunteers, then we could work out a pool, or transfer system of some sort. Prime Fleet is currently thinking of 'dontating' some of their commanders to ISS. Let's just hope they're active. -
quote:What does someone under 15 years of age? They should'nt own a copy of the game. Its rated T. T for teen. Teen doesn't start at 15, but 13... (Ahhh boy, I'm good at math *pats self on back*) quote:Or, they could just lie I suppose Hmmm.... Or round up. I'm 14 and a little over a half..... It works..... (at least for me) quote:What about the MB? I see bios info, but no motherboard brand/model. If you've built your own PC, you could just write "CUSTOM" in the PC Make/Model, and Follow up with the MoBo brand/model in that box. That's my idea. [ 10-01-2001: Message edited by: Cmdr Nova ]

quote:This makes Orion the biggest and most active single fleet in the game universe. Phew. Very true, Blades. In fact, out of the 30 people listed under the Fleet DB with Orion, only 13 haven't reported, and the roll call was just started on the 24th! That's just one week! Also, at least 10 of us are active (as in posting) at least once a week. Wow, we have succeeded in recruiting the best of the best. Now it's time to help our other Fleet brethren. Any ideas? Other than flat, evil never-ending outpouring propaganda, of course. (yes, it's evil; at least IMO) --- Edit: Typos.... [ 10-01-2001: Message edited by: Cmdr Nova ] -

$ilk, you are just too funny! ....But I liked Riga's little tidbit: "quote: On Mo 27 nov fr54L-kzrT-fdh8Z wrote: I know 5zzgt-l5esz-kn9er meant well when he quoted 9ttzw-qqw2l-nbqkl, but he could say it in a nicer manner." LOL! Are we all going insane? Is the wait for BCM really killing us? (crowd yells out in unison) NO! (Nova) Are you sure? (crowd)....... (Nova) And in visiting and checking this forum, are you also making sure that BCM isn't already at your doorstep? 'Cuz you never know..... *grin* (crowd) *everyone leaves stands and runs to their mailboxes* I like the idea of added security, at least in the Game Forums (as in non-general discussions). Passwords suck in my opinion as well. I want to repeat a question (or two): Will we have Private Message capability in Open Topic? It's been well used for communication, for a lot of us. What about the old topics here on the UBB based Board? Will they be at least archived? From the RP and Fleeting angle, this is sorta important. --- And tell me. Am I a known member? After all, I am the Newbie Welcome Wagon (at least that's what Blades and almost everyone considers me).

DeSylva's ISS site has a really good one. (In fact, that's the one I'm planning to base mine on.) Personally, it's the best: Includes official game history, personal histories (from biographical RP stories), Fleet histories, and whatnot. It is the best so far. Trust me. (Uhh, oh. Looking for the link to it. It seems as if the ISS Fleet site is gone. With the fate of ISS hanging in the balance, I'll upload the Timeline in a few min. brb)

Fleet Discussions

We all know all the fleet leaders are gonna wake up (at least the ones who haven't been in the fray recently)! I don't think SC's firing anyone soon. --- Hmm.... Looking back, I think we kinda blew this outa proportion at first (saying we'd go, blah blah, even without you clarifying first SC). We're all stressed out, aren't we (that's my excuse ). Perhaps lets all take a break.... At least until BCM is in our laps..... I mean, we aren't doing our daily VCF runs like we used to, and the game's practically here! (shrinks down to really small size) *twiddles fingers* ....It's just a week or two..... --- How 'bout it? SC needs a vacation! Look at everything he's given us; the forums, the games, the actual ability to communicate with the man! Well, weekend's over. Back to RL, along with school and work. Oh w00t for me... (sarcasm) I'll check in from time to time. Nova, over and out. -

I'll copy my reply from the Orion Station Comms Forum to here: quote:Eh, no harm done. I still think SC needs a vacation. He looks like he's sooo stressed. Getting pissed fast shows it. (Ep5's little misinformation about Polaris-2 leads SC onto a rampage threatening the Fleet Leaders is the prime example.) For the sake of the community and the flood of newbies, he needs to take a break, and we've also got to take a break from asking him tons of questions (or he can just let us vets answer them). I don't care if it delays the multiplayer patch for even a month. (Maybe some impatient bastards do, but, trust me: it's better for the community and us players that way, IMO. But that's just my opinion.) --- About the fleet thing, I too think it's a good idea. It was odd to me at first, to see 58 or so commanders (at least in the Fleet DB) all stationed in Sol. Wow, that's almost half of Galcom. Crowded skies, no more! --- Hmm. Scripting persistant multiplayer? Smart idea! (pun intended ) Wow, this is going to be soooo cool! [ 09-30-2001: Message edited by: Cmdr Nova ] -
I still stand, until SC clarifies. NO EXCEPTIONS is a pretty big thing to say.
-
All due respect, sir, but this better be a joke. If Blades goes, most of us will, too. Including me.

Janitorial Fleet: Yes or No?

Janitorial Fleet: Yes or No?
Cmdr Nova replied to R_wilco's topic in General Multiplayer Fleet Discussions
Howdy there. I'm Nova, the Newbie Welcome Wagon. The following is a(n) (under)paid announcement, made possible by me. (RP) Hmm... Miss Blutengel, you seem to be quite the accomplished Mercenary. Galcom citizenship terminated, merceary activities, intentions unknown, (continues mumbling while reading threat assesment*), et cetera, et cetera. (/RP) *takes a deep breath* 1) Mercenaries can't have Carriers (as in your Galactan) 2) You're not allowed to have any non-approved images in your sig. Only approved logos. 3) Galcom stands for Galactic Command (no "federation" in the name; otherwise, it doesn't seem to sound right: Galactic Command Federation.... Ick. ). 4) (From profile page) I'm pretty sure there isn't any TERRAN ALLIANCE. I'll have to double check the old RP files (and I do mean the really old ones, 'cuz I know it isn't in any of the recent ones). 5) "GALCOM calls me an 'Insurgent'. I call myself a human who expresses free will." - Girl, you ain't an Insurgent! You're an Indie. The Insurgency is a terran-based government, outside of Sol, that opposes Galcom. Don't confuse the two. 6) (again, from personal page) "Age 19 - JOINS GALCOM FLEET ACADEMY" You're going to need a timestamp on when the character was born (if you want to be in RP), because the fleets now, usually have their own Academies. As long as you were that age during or before year 3000, you're okay. --- Been lurking long? You seem to like to Role-Play your part in BC (I really like your character history profile page). See the RPG threads. I think you'd be great there (if you take the time to learn some of the history, procedures & whatnot, and fix the stuff above). Anyway, welcome aboard our Forum. *exhales and takes another deep breath* Nova, over and out. -
10 years? Heh. I don't care. Probably going to still be in college. (I'm only 14 for goodness sakes! And you think Fendi's young.) [ 09-29-2001: Message edited by: Cmdr Nova ]

New Season; what other shows you looking forward to?
Cmdr Nova replied to Charles Lindsey's topic in The Arts
Hmm..... Agreeing with Akira on this one: Shame there won't be any new Farscape eps until next year. So far, I loved the one where Chriton gets knocked out (near-death), and has all those cartoon things going on (a la Coyote and Road Runner).... --- quote:Posted by Akuma Minako: I'm waiting for SailorMoon Super S Movie to be shown...(Hey what can I say that's the show that started my love for anime in the first place). OMG, me too! Lets see, it was a few years back (maybe '97), they used to show it on USA Network here for a few months. Got hooked. Then they lose it, and I'm stuck without Cartoon Network for the next 3 years..... Life went on as it used to, but then some friend of mine had me play Pok├®mon, and soon I became a Pok├®maniac (What can I say, I was a kid back then! Eeehhh, the thought of it actually makes me shiver now.), then (once I got Cartoon Network,) Igot addicted to Tenchi, Gundam Wing, and then Outlaw Star. I think it was just a couple months ago that I started to (reluctantly) sit down and watch DBZ. Didn't like it at first, but the new (GT?) episodes are so much better. The plot actually moved along (no huge 4 episode fights; it only took 3 episodes to gather the z-fighters, train, and start the tournament!), and it's just a bit better looking than Pok├®mon. --- quote:Posted by Epsilon 5: I'm watching Andromedae. I love that show, so well done, a bit of tech glitches (hey its made by a Roddenbury! ), but the storyline is excellent! Used to watch that show. It's a wonderful show; my gold is between Farscape and Andromeda for a Sci-Fi TV Series. --- Emmett.hendrick, $iLk, & Cmdr Jeffery Eu: "Thundercats, Transformers, Visionaries, HeMan, Robotech." Um, no. Okay, okay. Robotech's sorta good. I'm a product of the '90s thank you very much..... After a great while of thought, I realize exactly how young I am, compared to everyone else here (next March, I'll be the ripe old age of 15). Scary. Old people. Really scary. j/k!
