SC quick questions..don't eat me please :-)
Rico Jansen replied to Hunted's topic in Battlecruiser Series
Nova, If you answer Q#2 by what the demo does, do remember that that are instant action missions, not Roam. ROAM(freeflight) wouldn't be as free as it was intended when you got your ship assigned by the game. Ofcourse, whatever ship you get is based on what's available at a station/base. And that, is like Nova said, based on your race/caste too. Stormcarriers are for Gammulans only, and trader stations don't need BCmk2s and the sorts. That last one is my opinion, but I'm sure the SC's too. -
Geocities is known for that behavior. As if it doesn't like other sites to steal files from it. Not sure if that's official policy, but I can imagine I would be

Why don't you guys start a small temporary workforce business first. And then businesses of different natures will spawn based on emerging needs by other people. No need to start with a single mega-multi-branch multinational corporation with a huge board of directors and staff. Can't think of a reallife example here, but the multinational would look too much like a fleet, IMHO. Start small, and most of all, keep the freedom in it. People will be looking mostly for a one-of task, not a continuous job placement I think. Take for example our Supreme Coder ... the sublime indie Also, who says the stucture of an organisation can't change over time. Since there are hardly any indies speeking up now, no need to expect them pooring in the human resources office during the next months or whenever MP get's done. Perhaps even business mergers, split-ups (Microsoft, anyone?) or even lay-offs could happen in the future. Capitalism has allways seen businesses in flux, right? I have no clue of the evolution of MP. I've never played games like that. Perhaps it will develop into a static form. But considering the internet, change is inevitable I suppose. As should be obvious, I was aware of that thread. I posted in it myself. Ok, I guess I missed that one sentence where Thomas names a/the support fleet. And assigning staff positions. But that's about everything in the past +year I heard about that. You would think such a vital service would get more attention during the structure setup than it did. But you are right, we don't really have a market to dump those nutripacks in yet.

Consider getting a different password from the SC here everytime you want to post? Does that work? No. Chat sessions? Maybe.

Remo is correct in a way. He is the man that knows exactly how many turrets will be pointing at his office windows if we don't get our neccessities on time. But to my knowledge we have never talked about a designated supply wing or squadrons (in Prime). I'm not saying it's not possible. Just that that part wasn't fleshed out when setting up the Primefleet structure. But according to the ISS Fleet website (in this "GALCOM Factions and Groups Intelligence Report" ) there is a Prime support fleet, known as the "Main Support Fleet". I can't remember having seen anything about it here on the forum (or it's deep inside RP. I never go there.) so I am not sure it this is official or not. I would guess it is, 'cause nobody would like to see the SC get really really mad. But nobody mentioned this at all. As you can read in that part but also imagine, that fleet is dormant, not taking recruits. Now something from a different approach. I remember seeing news footage from the pre-gulfwar months of men/trucks/tanks/cargo being loaded into what seemed normal cargoships to be transported to the gulf arena. Don't know what country that was, though I do remember Dutch material being transported too in the same way. I doubt any force is capable of profiding in it's own logistical needs. This is quite an undertaking, especially when a war is around the corner. Forces assign their assets to take care of their own logistics because they really need to be able to depend on it. A fully independant fleet is an illusion I think. But we will have MP to proof that theory soon I suppose. In response to Hamblin's pont #5: They might not have big guns and so be considered harmless and not really a threat, but if you don't want to have your enemies fire weapons at you, you have to make sure he's not getting them in the first place. In other words, those ships will be primary targets if an enemy wants to criple us/any fleet. I don't really like to have them go off alone unprotected. They WILL NEED protection. Yes, we certainly need a private forum. Maybe not for the usual chitchat. But certainly for the technicalities of combat. If one has trouble memorizing a password, ever thought about writing it down in a textfile and link to it with a shortcut in the start menu? Or next to the start button. You can put your own shortcuts there too. I know, security hazard! But no need to make this a Pentagon-type security installation, right? Personally I'm quite happy with what we are doing on this board here right now. Non-important stuff can be public and here so newbies can get a taste of us Primates and our urges. Less publicity if we move alot of traffic to another forum means less recruits. And no need for duplicate forums. Confusses the hell out of me. Did we have that discussion on this one or this one? And replied that person there too?, as what he says on the other looks very much similar.

quoting myself: quote:And the way I see it, first cmdr that get's into a squad (as it is commisioned) becomes the leader.Beta's 1st squadron is the example I was looking for. Why isn't Wolferz squadron leader. He's around the board frequently enough I think. oh well, not really my business.

Janitorial Fleet: Yes or No?
Rico Jansen replied to R_wilco's topic in General Multiplayer Fleet Discussions
If you put it like that than it seems a corporation is more appropriate. I can understand one likes to use the word "fleet", as it lifts the cool-ness factor quite a bit. But then only on the outside. Fleets are military. What this idea is suggesting is just a cleaning service. No guns involved. And an unnneccesary one at best, as no real junk is left around roaming the BCM/BC3K spacelanes. If it doesn't have a TTD then it's just GFX. (And do we really want to have dormant junk eat up precious CPU-power?) Very likely that's the reason most people don't catch up on this idea. Doesn't really have merrit. Ofcourse one can start a towing service. Or a commercial explosive ordenance disposal unit clearing up mines based on contracts. Or a 'debris-field mining' company. But debris fields are not really trafic hazards, are they? I don't think anyone ever joined the military just so he could do latrine duty. (never was enlisted myself, just watched TOD alot) -
Ok, then we have a non-existing fleet that protects the SC. Interesting!

Hold on, wait a sec, missed this, ... and didn't I mention this somewhere else before? quote:We even got a janitorial fleet...You don't. You wish. And wishes about new fleets go into the trashcan. Hate to be harsh, but you'll get the same reply from anyone here. /RP If there ever was a janitorial fleet, then it's Earthcom. Clearing up bunnie droppings. Yes, make sure the 3 pic gif from the work-in-progress Gamma Wing page is approved too, then I'll change to that. That one almost seems as if the eagle(??) is flying. Or hopping like a parakeete(??). [ 08-23-2001: Message edited by: Rico Jansen ]

Only the SC knows for sure if it's (going to be) valid. And he says he didn't come up with that date in the first place. So do the math yourself as to it's merrit. Good chance being zilch. It's ready when it's ready... // pseudo-code on IF Lead_Developer=="Derek Smart" THEN GetSizeOfHelpFile("BCM.hlp")=MaxUnsignedInt; /* size = 4GB */ ENDIF // pseudo-code off 4GB??? Well, you get the meaning, right? BC3K's (first release) manual was the work of Take2 and/or Gametek I believe. The SC worked his butt off on a replacement for it IIRC. The result you should have now, or if you don't, is available for download for ages. p.s. I guess I'm happy it's pseudo-code and not supposed to be C. [ 08-23-2001: Message edited by: Rico Jansen ]

Question about the origins of Genesis Station
Rico Jansen replied to Badgerius's topic in Role Playing Discussions
Hmm, come to think of it, you would think Prime Fleet Logistics were smarter than putting 2 wings in both of the 2 smaller stations and just one in the biggest available. This whole double-Genesis thing has found me questionmark-ed too. As of reading this thread, that is. Never have RTFM enough. Personally, different station deserves different name. But one could argue "what's in a name?", right? Odd situation. But I'm not going to guess at the need for the 'new' Genesis. All I ever really thought about it was it being a HT station with 10% inflation. Guess I don't really have any business here in the RP section. So I better move off again. -
Rearview mirror mascotte anyone?

You're right, I'm probably rushing you. I'd say, those that are MIA for over a month or so (lenient) get flushed from the squad, and since that hierachy is in flux, nothing wrong with alot of MIAs. Temporarily anyway. And just stating minimaly one squad. What's a wing without one? But I'm nagging and rambling. I should take a shower. Aunt's Birthday party tonight. Later

Yes, very good, but the station seems close to accidental re-entry. What width is that moon pic. 800 pixels? I have my screen set to 1024. Don't know what today's standard is, but maybe you can make a bit room that way. I was thinking maybe you put the station in the stars background on the left. (what stars? ... hint hint ) And align (left) the red squadron text sloped to make room for it. (if it's going to go left) Definately like the font! p.s. Badge? what's your email. I should have Mr. Murphy laying around here somewhere. p.s.2 I believe the correct spelling is "guarddogs" [ 08-23-2001: Message edited by: Rico Jansen ]

I'm happy to know the top of the piramid recognises the need of the base. I noticed the same thing in the indie forum with the corporation thread. I don't think you'll likely to get members if everyone is a director. Looks to odd to me to join. Yes, didn't think squad leader was a staff position either. And the way I see it, first cmdr that get's into a squad (as it is commisioned) becomes the leader. Wasn't that with me too? Simple as that. So, inlight of the above, Remo?, can you update that staff hierachy to include the squadrons too. To the extend of your knowledge, ofcourse. ... But if you don't know, who does?

So, that's tuesdays 9-12 pm GMT, right? Eversince Blades started plugging it I've been wanting to get in but always missed it. Tuesday sounds like it's going to be a while when I will be able to make it. Normally I only get online extensively in the weekends Anyway, I'll do my best. Sounds like a great show.
