  1. Hey guys? You ARE leaving some people down at the bottom of the piramid, are you? Having deskjobs alone we'll never defeat any insurgents or gammulans. Just make sure it doesn't tip over being top-heavy. I'm sorry if I'm making a big deal out of this. Guess I just got a bit confused as to where everybody got assinged to. In any event, promotions are well deserved so good luck guys. Just take note of the above, if you will. (remembers he had to work on a bio)
  2. Resnig is/was notorious for constantly repeating "Marines ready for combat deployment", eventhough the ratio of on-station/off-station marines didn't change. And also for countering your orders when you manually assigned marines to a certain task. Whatever you did, he would know better. That made him our eternal scapegoat. Unfortunately, he is a valuable assest when it comes to noticing boarded intruders. If he is not on station, you are likely to give them free reign without noticing. And so risk loosing support craft when you have not cut power to launch control. [ 08-22-2001: Message edited by: Rico Jansen ]
  3. There are so many combinations it's not even funny. I'm sure one could code some search algorithm that figures out the best possible profit enroute, but it's of little use. It only works in the beginning of the game. Inflation will change after a few days or so. By then you'll be as rich as I was, if you want ofcourse. And then money is not an issue. Getting spares and weapons in time IS.
  4. This is something I found funny about the first trader division out-set, I think Riga posted on the 2nd page. quote:All members of Commodity Inc., with the exception of the Director, are only bound by the divisions rules and rulings as long as they are at one of the corporation bases. You got a loophole for a corrupt director here I think. If you like that, that's fine with me. Just my two cents. Or I didn't understand it right and this all-nighter took it's toll allready. They please disregard.
  5. quote:How about THE ultimate sport? Resnig Hockey!LOL! Count me in. Where's that ticket office? I think we had a thread about this quite some time ago. Sometime before beta I think? Not sure who started it. SC? Anyway, that wasn't about fleet competitions. Just possible MP scenarios besides combat ones. [ 08-22-2001: Message edited by: Rico Jansen ]
  6. Chavik: quote:You still have to fly there first. I don't like the "Fly TO" command. I much prefer the "Jump AT" command because the shuttle stops once it gets to the system you sent it. Personal preference I suppose.Only once. I always go into navitron (indirectly through Roster, Alt-R) to set a far-off destination. Ok, shuttles are not supposed to have a Navitron so this could be considered cheating. This also stops the shuttle dead in it's tracks on arrival. And then you can fire up tacops to make a prioritylist entry of Velari. And that station specialty thing is what I meant. Maybe not so clear. Desolator: quote:I was just curious about what routes the pro's of this game take.If I'm allowed to coinsider myself one... I take the long trip with my shuttles from GalcomHQ to Velari (Polaris2) selling AD items, and returning with empty bays. Using IC/SC/ATV spareparts and weapons and some other cargostuffing as starting capital. And on the first few trips I try to take my drones with me to Actis-IV (quickest mining in the quadrant), as it is not far from Velari. This Velari run can get me to a wealth of 2^31 credits in a few hours time. (Bill Gates, EAT THAT!! ) Possibly even under one. Not sure, been a while since. Be carefull not to cross that number, as I've seen funny game-behaviour after I did. Besides, don't want to get a negative cash balance after all that work, do we? 7. quote:Or just assign Resnig to a shuttle, launch it, and NEVER EVER reclaim it...He ain't worth that precious shuttle!!! Get him on your transporter pad and seek out a nice spot in the middle of an insurgent encampment on a planet or moon. They can waste their weapons on him all they want.
  8. quote:Fineally, is there any way to change the refresh rate that BC3K runs at? I read in another topic that you cant change the resolution, which im OK with, just having a refresh rate of 60Hz really gets to me after a while. I useually play most games at 640x480@100Hz and can go ages without any probs, but im sat here with the worlds worst migraine after 4hrs of BC3K . Any help in this regard (like any 3rd party utilities to set refresh rates in DOS etc) would be nice. There's a difference between refresh rate and framerate. Your screen refresh is set to whatever windows' desktop properties/settings tab is set to, or based on your card's specific dos app for that. The in-game framerate, from the ctrl-v key-combo, is determined and adjusted automatically. If you get 60Hz when you expect 100Hz, then realize that BC3k's AI (and BCM) is notorious for making your CPU sweat. Those 40HZ you are missing is likely to be consumed by the AI. A 'frame' is comprised of all the computations needed to update the screen physics/statistics, AI and to render the appropriate views. This is totally seperate from the electron beam scanning inside your monitor.
  9. quote:We all will miss his presence on bridge.Yeah, like toothache.
  10. Then, does anyone know how to do multiple quotes correctly? What's this "[QB} bla bla ...{/QB]" thing? (if you see a "{" or "}", replace it with "[" or "]" ) As you can see below, it seems to be ignored when there is a
  11. Ok, to make sense of this whole thread, what does "WASD" stand for? Up-Left-Down-Right movement keys? Anyway, such a newby-recognition code and a "RTFM" alert would be the perfect easter-egg thing to piss certain people off. Go for it.
  12. quote:Will you make them up, or can we create one or more and these will be included in the list?I think that's the point of being here in this indie-forum. Once you have your corp formulated and doesn't go against the regulations of the BCM universe, AND it stays solid (an active and breathing organisation) having a descend lifetime allready, THEN your corp might get to be put on the server fleet/corp list. Atleast, that's my interpretation of policy on this board. The SC or CAT (or whoever is controling the particular server) is not going to keep pushing and pulling new corps on and off that list all the time. You'll have to make sure you are worth it by standing the test of time. But I may be wrong on this. [ 08-12-2001: Message edited by: Rico Jansen ]
  13. quote:I don't mean to sound picky but X1 is just way too fast...You're kidding, right? You are allready waiting a complete day before a game-day passes. A prerequisite for this game is to have patience. And you're saying it's too fast? Oh well, nobody runs as fast as the other, I guess. I'm sure you'll get the hang of it in time. What exectly is running you over? [ 08-12-2001: Message edited by: Rico Jansen ]

Chavik?? ) quote: Now this is where it gets tricky. You should be in Jupiter in shuttle 2 and shuttle 1 should be in Lennen. While in shuttle 2 switch to tacops. Order shuttle 1 to "Jump at" Juptiter TO Earth. Get out of tacops and switch to shuttle 1. From shuttle 1 go back to tacops and order shuttle 2 to "Jump At" Lennen TO Polaris 2. Ya gotta do it quick though because shuttle 1 is already heading towrads Earth. You have to order shuttle 2 while the tacops screen is valid. If shuttle 1 makes it to Lyrius you will no longer have the "Jump At" Lennen to Polaris 2 option. Couldn't you just solve this more easily if you had a priority list entry of Velerai and GalcomHQ? Indeed tricky, I'm completely double-ball-tennismatched here. And I allready had strained neck muscles. [ 08-12-2001: Message edited by: Rico Jansen ]
  15. Hmm?? Anybody ever experienced running out of fuel in a shuttle? Besides, since you're in the neighbourhoud anyway, might as well start digging on Actis IV,Procyon [ 08-11-2001: Message edited by: Rico Jansen ]
  16. Don't know about the rest, but I have a tech reason. AW refuses to get a connection to the net. reason 87 or something. Ordinary mail and browsing is no prob, as I am writting this, just no AW. Never had this before. So, I'll keep trying, but I can't promise. Have fun to those who do attend. (fixed it .. never screw with something that works ) [ 08-11-2001: Message edited by: Rico Jansen ]

Anyway, issue solved I guess. You can't have them unless you put them in manually.
  18. ok, here's my rant on Badgerius and Remo: quote:Looks like our favoured ships are: The Garid The BC Mk1 Firestorm Hold on, I'm still going to request the bcmk2 unless I come up with something better. Really love the way they sit. quote:What I'd like to do is have each squadron possess at least the same type of ship. So each squadron will have assigned to it 1 carrier-class ship, and the rest super-cruiser or cruiser class.Makes perfect sense. quote:I am going to stand firm on the 1 carrier per squadron. Squadron commanders can take that ship for themselves, or assign it to a member of the squadron.Badgerius, I love you! But nah, can't be such a badass to keep it only for myself just because. quote:Each squadron will act as a unit, similar in function (in theory, who knows how it'll work in-game) to a Carrier Battle Group in the US Navy. That doesn't mean you'll always be escorting the carrier, but you will act as a unit.Ok, guess that means I need to dig that Harpoon naval game up again. I know it's a group of ships, but exactly why and how, no clue. Ofcourse it's very important to protect the carrier, but I don't see myself command my squad to hug around it. Have too many bad memories to craft collisions in BC3k. Besides, we'll need to cover jumppoints and the like, disperse ourselfs throughout the region, and perhaps even in the neighouring ones. "the Guarddogs never let go", passing thru is not an option. Indeed, you're right Badgerius, better wait until we know how it'll work in the game. Don't forget we need to schedule MP shakedown cruises and co-op training when the time comes. quote:I know not everybody likes doing bios, ... Oh well, we had a year to get used to the idea of it. Will need to do some more daydreaming I guess, but that comes natural. Shouldn't be too impossible to come up with something. quote: Also shouldn't we have one squadron assigned to either armed or unarmed transports.Very good point! I remember the ISS website has the whole fleet structure worked out of all the fleets, and Prime's said there was also supposed to exist a Prime Support fleet or something. Only the strange thing is you don't see anything anywhere on the forum about this. I think we really need people that take care of the supply side of things. I mentioned this a bit in the previous page. Can't have leaving my ship in the middle of battle cause I need certain groceries. quote:..., or would that be the job of the Fleet Staff support squadrons?Don't think so, they support the staff. Independant from us I think. And I think it's more like protective support than hand-feeding them nutripacks.
  19. background pic : DREWL!!! And sortof what I had in mind for the logo, or a bit like the NASA pic, you know, Apollo something. (more to follow soon) ... (looks down to next post) ... (ok, make that next post ) [ 08-10-2001: Message edited by: Rico Jansen ]
  20. I don't know about your acting skills, but perhaps you can star on Southpark or something.
  21. Just like you said, get them to work, meaning having them on-station. Doesn't matter if you have, i.e your flight engineers drink coffee on the job all day until they bulge. AI will rise. Experience?, that should sound obvious, they really have to have done something for that to increase. And it isn't directly measureable by a number somewhere, like on perscan. You should only be able to notice in shorter task durations. You might want to assign your marines to search duty and when they enter the library, barricade the doors. 2.09 is THE latest version, of BC3K. The SC scuttled the old gall sometime last year? Or 1999? Don't know, but BCM or no BCM, she's a legend. And I for one will make sure she's treated like that. In a recent development diary the SC said he will release the sourcecode to the gall with a book he's writting, so I don't know what the future holds with regard to future updates. But I'm pretty sure, if any, they won't come from him.

I'd say you have a definate hit if you demote yourself to the System Engineer caste and start a cleaning corporation as a group of indies. Maybe not the same, but ... oh wait, commercials should do, I think. Indies can affiliate them with a fleet, eventhough they are not neccesarily part of them. Please don't ask further, that was quite some discussion then, and long ago by now. Don't remember too much of that. Besides, if you want to continue on this idea, I suggest you hurry over to the miscelaneous race/caste forum or the general fleet forum, dig in (and find the apropriate discussions while you're at it) before the SC get's in and smacks us in the face. 23. Ok, since alot of 'free' newbies like the short-leg trade runs, peek over my shoulder here. Buy Deflector arrays at GalcomHQ in Earth, Sell them at Gazer1 in Pluto, Buy support craft spare parts there after that, Sell those spare parts at ISS station in Saturn, Buy deflector arrays again but now here at ISS, Go back to Gazer1(Pluto) and sell them off, Buy those same spareparts again Head-off to GalcomHQ Earth and dumb them. That was the end of your trade run. Feel free to start again. A guaranteed profit on all 4 legs! (avg 20% per leg) You'll have more than doubled your starting capital, and still get to see some of the scenery in the process. Good way to get the hyperjump, jumppoint, hyperjump, docking routine going I'd say. [ 08-10-2001: Message edited by: Rico Jansen ]
  24. Totally forgot to mention the chat. Yeah, saturday 9 pm my time sounds good. Not sure how I can add to the website business. Closest relevant thing I did was make a html table in a post here. But I'll attend.
  25. What's that Remo? You're not making a secret deal with a bunny, are you? That constitutes to a court martial, you know! p.s. The homepage link on your profile page points to www.primfleet.com. As a result a bad link. [ 08-09-2001: Message edited by: Rico Jansen ]
