Paddy, check with your ISP and see if they are using a proxy server at the head end of your DSL connection. This will cause a slowdown on page loading until the proxy has it. Also, empty out all your internet cache files. DSL has a tendency to load these up before you know it. Check out www.dslreports.com for speed tweaks to the Windows OS. Windows (depending on flavor) usually defaults to LAN settings, which aren't compatible with high speed interent access. Good luck and welcome to the world of high speed access. You will love it. DVD on a PC with a 19" monitor is the bomb. My only recommendation for you $ilk is, be sure to get a DVD player that has the hardware decoder. The software decoders blow. Most DVD players for the PC have no problem doubling as a a standard CD ROM drive. Mine works quite well.

RDRAM is not that expensive anymore. I just finished putting a new P4 machine together for Milady Shewolferz... Asus P4T mobo Pentium IV 1.8 Ghz 256 Meg of PC800 RDRAM This thing boots up in less than 20 seconds. Needless to say I was amazed at the difference compared to my 1 Gigger PIII. I bought the RAM from Mushkin at @ $70.00 per stick. Not too bad when you consider just a little over a year ago a 128 Meg stick of PC700 RDRAM cost me $400.00! The debate has raged all over the internet as to which processor is better and it only boils down to a matter of preference. Just like cars. [ 11-13-2001: Message edited by: Wolferz ]

It wouldn't be so much the failure of a heatsink as it would be the failure of the cooling fan attached to that heatsink. And 300 degrees wouldn't be a hard stretch when running a few volts through micro-miniature circuitry. Besides, the result would be more of an explosion than it would be a meltdown. Nothing like opening things up and finding shrapnel and a nice hole in the middle of your chip.

There. Should be a piece of cake now.

Yeah, it's fun to watch those LUSERS come to a battle of minds unarmed.

Here. And Jonesin' real bad for a BCM fix.
-
Take a look at this..... http://www.3000ad.com/products/bcm.shtml Scroll down to where it shows minimum system requirements and you will see that the bare minimum processor is a PII 300 Mhz. Personally, I run a PIII 1 Ghz machine and the planetary graphics slow to around 25 FPS, which is acceptable. I really don't see your machine as being capable of running the game adequately. Time to upgrade maybe?

LOL. That one really adds meaning to the word LUSER and it's the honest truth.

Force Feedback is the bomb! It doesn't use the ordinary potentiometer setup. It's optical, so there are no pots to wear out. Fendi, I'm heavy handed on a stick also, I doubt that you could break it. I have had mine for two years now and it still works like a brand new one.

Patience young Padmes....errr Padawans.

While it seems to be an intrigueing idea, we only get the humanoid variety as targets. Let's just leave the bugs to the Starship Troopers. Besides, we found and the SC squashed the majority of the bugs during beta testing. Now where are those cows? I'm hungry.

Carl, The second modifier at the end should have a slash in front of IMG and no space. Like so....

Another spin on the issue. I am sure the reviewer was playing a beta copy. As such a complete review would be pragmatic at best. Hopefully the game mags will review the gold version with an open mind, and more than an hour of playtime. I would recommend that they spend at least a week of actual game time and get some better equipment to run it on. I mean c'mon! Trying to rate a game on your word processor is totally unfair.

Excellent. I find George's lack of faith...disturbing.

Soback my friend, Just an FYI. I am a fanatical flight sim enthusiast. I was camped out on the B-17 bulletin board from day one through release during the game's development. I listened to a boat load of what ultimately turned out to be tripe from the developers. It wasn't their fault though. As I mentioned previously it was Hasbro that put the axe into it. I also have the PC muscle to run the game. B-17 FF TME needs only some fine tuning to make it "THE SIM". Adding a MP component would make it the ultimate in flight sim immersion. Have you found the Aliens yet? I re-checked the Bombs-Away download section. The patch to version 2.0 was the second patch, which I have. It didn't impress me. At present I don't foresee any further patches coming down the pike. In other words, "They Dropped It Like A Hot Potatoe". Oh btw, If you kick the auto-name generator for crews enough, you will find my surname popping up from time to time. The developers invited the Bombs-Away board members to add their names to the game and they did. [ 10-17-2001: Message edited by: Wolferz ]

FunCom doesn't suck. They BLOW! Take heart. They may get to suck status if they try really hard.

Is that the first patch, second patch, or have they come up with a third patch? The first patch was to resolve the crash bug related to the radio operator and to remove some garbage ( old Windows IE files ) that was accidentally compiled into the code. The second patch was supposed to activate the engine management features. Unfortunately, the engines can't be managed while flying the plane due to poor implementation of the gauge views. Here is a list of problems still present in the game: 1. Stuttering terrain and enemy fighter graphics. 2. Enemy fighters constantly playing Kamikaze into your bomber formation. 3. Stuttering graphics in the turret positions. 4. Map bugs that make it difficult to set waypoints. 5. The right wing echelon flys too close to the player's six bombers, causing collisions when making acute angle turns. 6. Flight models are nowhere near accurate. ie: I can fly loops, Immelemans, etc. with a fully loaded B-17. 7. No kneeboard map for navigation in fighters. 8. No "stretched neck" or "line of sight" cockpit views. This makes manual control of taxi and takeoff literally impossible, as well as engine management. 9. Cockpit controls and gauges were touted as fully functional. They are not. In fact, some are missing. 10. Poorly implemented landing procedures. This causes runway pile-ups as well as loss of injured aircrew because severely damaged planes don't get preferred landing clearance or cleared from the active runway when they crack-up. In a nutshell, the developers were running way past their deadline and Hasbro pulled the plug on them, dumbed it down to pre-teen level, gave it a lick and a promise beta test and shipped it. The only positive I can come up with is the external view graphics at higher altitudes which are nothing short of stunning. Also, flying into flak gives one the feeling of almost being there. Scares the hell out of me when I'm not paying attention. But, graphics do not a fun game make. It could have been so much more. Too bad the Hasbro bean counters didn't see it's potential.

My first wingman. Welcome to the boat Cmdr Burning. Grab an oar. [rp] "The requisition is headed up the CoC for some MK3's. A very worthy pile of rivets if we can get one. Knowing my luck, I'll probably get stuck in a flying tub of a Firestorm or something.... although I would hope the higher ups would get those behemoths. More fighters to cover their big arses with." "Well Carl, it looks like we've been officially assigned." [/rp] [ 10-16-2001: Message edited by: Wolferz ]

I have it. I haven't played it since around January. It still has a great deal of bugs and no MP component. Just another example of Hasbro Interactive screwing the gaming public by rushing it to market. It could have been so much more, according to the developers.
