  1. Not to mention hypocrisy here's one of our more recent banned visitors. http://members.tripod.com/no2interplay/ KIN Takvah - "The reality check has to do with the fact that even after all the screaming was done about SFA, nothing was done to fix it. I'm not talking shield indicators here, I'm talking multiplay. Also the fixes in the end hurt some features in the game, ie reloading at a starbase. It's as if Interplay washed their hands of the whole project and believe me I was as upset as you when I got this game and even RETURNED IT" [interplay seems consistent in botching up multiplayer and doing nothing to fix it in game after game after game.] now read his (Takvah) posts over at http://dreamcatchergames.com/forums/showth...&threadid=13675 It's seems it was ok to bash Interplay for releasing SFA because it had bugs and the patches of "his" game were not to his liking but now there's slippage in an attempt to make the release as bug free as possible this is also wrong or is it just he now has a different agenda? Edit: starts here read this thread first http://dreamcatchergames.com/forums/showth...&threadid=13699 I was going to make my first post over at DC in response to Takvah but the thread had already been locked by bglad[DC] so I'll just add to this post. I must apologies it seem I have some how miss-interpreted the meaning of Takvah's quoted post on that link I also provided. The meaning was obviously beyond my comprehension it would seem that he (Takvah) thinks its quite acceptable to ship games with as many bugs in it as you like as long as you promise to fix them for free in post release patches, it's only when the fixes aren't acceptable to Takvah that it then becomes un-acceptable. Just makes you think how bad does a game have to be before in his (Takvah) opinion it shouldn't be released even if you do make those promises? I think I'll go with my first impression and that he is being hypocritical because his agenda has changed. Takvah talks about "LACK OF READING COMPREHENSION" even if you didn't know about the Take Two debacle how can you not comprehend that someone who hasn't played a game can give a fair and valid opinion of a game or is the author just calling for a boycott of Interplay's future big releases based on a generalization of previous performance. The quote about BC3000AD v2.0 which is what it's about, posted under the title "Boycott Future Interplay Games! List follows..." and reads as follows "Battle Cruiser 3000AD - You can add Battle Cruiser 3000 to the list of Interplay Fiasco's like MAX2 and Descent to Undermountain. You can preorder it now if you like throwing your money down the toilet. You can leave warning messages about it on their Commlink Forum. It's foolish to even consider buying this game." note the words I have highlighted in bold. I take this post for what it is posted by someone who at the time hadn't even played the released version and so could not be expressing an objective opinion of the game because it had not been released. This warning was quite understandable at the time he / she might well of had his / her fingers burnt with the original TakeTwo release of the unready beta code as a finished game against SC wishes. Maybe Takvah is coming to his because he seems to have taken offence at being grouped in with the other hypocritical "detractors" or is it just he doesn't like his double standards pointed out? He certainly seems to have a problem with me but then that's his problem not mine and shows another of his character flaws. or am I deliberately miss-comprehending, miss-interpreting, being unkind, making a bad joke or being provocative your choice. Like I say a few posts further down in this thread " Give them enough rope and they'll hang themselves." [ 12-23-2003, 01:35 PM: Message edited by: Pugwash ]
  2. Today a Gold Release Candidate 1 build was sent to Dreamcatcher. hmm not quite taking you to the relevant post.
  3. Before I started any tests on my server / client I uninstalled BCMG deleted the folders, reinstalled applied the bcmg101.exe patch then the bcmg10101.exe patch.(of the 12/12/03) The reason for this is to have a controlled environment also I have been running some GBS scripts with a modded universe and wanted to remove any possibility of hosed environments. PC's used listed in sig Server as server OS win2k +all patches client as Games OS XP pro +all patches Router Netgear RP614 and Switch Netgear FS516 Firewall was disabled for all tests. Server Config Password = none set then set to "password" and the test rerun. Multi player Type = Lan (then Internet) Max Bandwidth = Cable Max Connections = Cable Dedicated yes Fleet No Number of players = 8 Server IP= 192.168.0.1 (then Localhost then 82.38.130.118) Server port = 2302 Spawn Time = 20 Start Delay = 20 Auto Team switch =No Friendly fire = 1000 Friendly TTD = Yes Hostile TTD = Yes Allow AG = No I did around 30 tests with differing setups repeatedly restarting the server with the new settings and joining from the client over Lan. I tried to join the server with both the standard "Join MP server" shortcut and ingame browser and a modified shortcut with the "+connect xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx" parameter in most cases the IP address was the internal 192.168.0.x x being 1 or 2. I always used the MP Server Config utility to change the server settings ie Password,IP address, server mode Lan or Internet. In all cases when I joined successfully, only when the password was set was I prompted for it. When the password was removed I was no longer prompted for it. When running in Lan mode I let the Router (DNS) assign static IP's to the PC via the MAC addresses. Set the IP address in MP Server Config as the assigned 192.168.0.2 but it works fine set to "localhost" When running in Internet mode I remove the Router, plug the cable modem into a NIC use my ISP's DNS to set the PC's IP address (82.38.130.118) set this address in the MP Server Config utility, Set a second NIC (plugged into the switch) with ICS running (IP address 192.168.0.1) this acts as the DNS for the internal LAN and plugged the client cable in the switch (instead of the Router), but it should work fine using the Router. Before I start the server I usually disable all NICs but for the Internet connection Once the server has started and I see the game initialize on the external IP address I then re-enable the NIC with ICS and join with the client. Not sure if doing that makes any difference but when the server started and picked up the internal IP (still showed in ASE on the external IP) I never got any connection or the connection I received failed but that may have been co-incidence. I did notice a server running yesterday with an IP address of 81.49.6.138 whoever was running it was also logged in on the forum as a "Guest" but this server was not pingable so I don't know the game version or server name and it refused all connections. Always check the server game version before you try to connect I think this is the reason I'm getting refused connections from some Internet clients. Conclusion. I had no problems joining the server with the passwords set or not even after the server ran with a password then ran with the password removed I could still connect over Lan without problems. As previously Splad was able to connect to my server on at least 2 occasions I must conclude that it must be a problem with his install or setup. Edit: just correcting some obvious spellings, if I read it a gain I'll probably find more to correct. [ 12-14-2003, 10:12 AM: Message edited by: Pugwash ]
  4. You beat me to it I was just writing a reply to Sean Mirrsen. No form of piracy will be tolerated.
  5. OK better report in. Also re-registered on the fleet database.
  6. You need to start the game with the cheat parameter to enable the time compression. to do this edit your shortcut to the game or create a new one and edit the target line to read "C:Program FilesDreamCatcher3000ADBattlecruiser Millennium Goldbcm.exe" -cheat and apply the changes. N.B. the file path must be correct above is the default install path yours may differ. Now when you launch from a station you will notice the word "Cheat" in the top right hand corner. try Ctrl+T or Ctrl+Shift+T I cant remember if this is enabled in the original release I'm not going to uninstall and reinstall just to check it out, it certainly works with 1.01.01 RC7 but then you should be running RC7
  7. hehe I just go and find a post I've edited before and re edit it. The changes to the sig are updated to all my posts with out me geting another post credited.
  8. Been using Trillian and never imported the contact list correctly
  9. I found a new way of getting your count up (me I'm trying to keep it as low as possible) just keep posting in the sig test forum
  10. Well hindsight is always 20:20 Subsequent events seem to show my judgment was correct on this matter. If he'd of actually posted in the correct forum I may have just edited his post and left it. There's only one "dude" who needs chill out on the beach and that seems to be Takvah he certainly seems to have a problem with this forum and the people who frequent it. I would like to point out a few things His post was deleted on sight by me my decision not the SC's., No one had time to reply to it. No one insulted him on this board. No one talked down to him on this board. No one told him to RTFM. All that happened was he had his post deleted. He came here looking for a fight which I was not willing to let anyone give him, he now finds he can't post here so he's had to go else where for it. Will he have the same attitude with DC now they have deleted one of his posts I think not. I was lucky enough to save a copy of the DC forum Thread to my HD just after bglad[DC] posted but before he deleted the posts, lol that was good timing (that's just a link to edited DC thread I'm talking about not the saved thread I have.) I missed the Spindoktor post.

Please, please can we have the old SC back I really miss him, this new mellow imposter is just not the same. It's been months since someone had a good tongue lashing from from the SC. Why did you all take a step back. I used to love coming to this forum to be cheered up by the SC put downs.
  13. quote:Originally posted by Extinct_Reptilia: I'm quite the noobie when it comes to this department, so please be kind...Being a n00b is no excuse for not researching your question before posting. As has been said before just about everything depicted in the BCM /G universe can be changed with the correct tools and GBS. That's if you known what your doing. What you will be allowed to do in the released version , now that's another story.
  14. quote:Originally posted by Greiger: Ok, thanks for the help.Problem solved? Was my guess correct and you now have access to logistix?
  15. I nearly deleted this post on sight this morning before going to work as I didn't have time to reply (Yep I have to work 3 Sundays in 4) but decided to move it to the correct Forum. Well I'm saying the correct Forum but there's no correct Forum as this product is no longer supported. I'm guessing you've downloaded the free version which probably had a disclaimer to read saying it was no longer supported before could install (SC or someone who has installed the free version correct me if I'm wrong ) but you still expect support. I'm still in a good mood so I will help but one of the other Mods or the SC may still delete this topic thread. Again I'm guessing that what you are seeing is this Engineering as you probably have not launched from the space station. and not this Logistix which is accessible once launched from a space station. If not then you have a bad install or download as I can think of no other reason as to why "logistix" is accessible but with the icons missing.

  17. Update your HD to ATA 133 if your motherboard supports it, or faster spin speed 10000 , 15000 rpm larger buffer faster access time. HD are relatively cheap now days and the technology has advanced. Find your HD make and model number and check out the specification at the manufacturer web site. check the HD drivers if you have an Intel chip set checkout Intel® ICH2 IDE storage driver (busmaster) they make a big difference over the standard MS ones and at one time were updated fairly frequently same applies to VIA and SIS use their latest drivers If possible in Device Manager > IDE ATA/ATAPI controller > Primary IDE channel tick the box or select from the drop down menu to enable DMA. Obviously updating drivers is the cheapest option the cost to you, your time and Internet connection cost.
  18. Cruis. In updating to the latest HD (check DMA if available), grafix, sound, Mobo drivers is always a good thing. I usually set the page file to 1.5 * the amount of memory installed. Some recommend you fix the pagefile size rather than letting windows manage it. (if you have only 1 HD) I tend to have the swap file on a smallish fast second drive along with all the temp, tmp etc directories nothing else installed or running on that drive. Although its getting harder to get small HDs now also bit of a problem with a laptop which may not allow you to install a second HD I don't go with the idea of having a small partition for you pagefile yes it reduces fragmentation but those read/write heads still has to move from one place on the disc to another while reading from the drive and writing to the pagefile. check out for game tweaks

I could be wrong though, Before you go on a wild posting spree just a couple of things to think about. I have a post count of 354 yet have the rank of Supreme Cmdr, why would that be? read my unofficial motto. EDIT moto read "Judge a Commander by the quality of his posts not the quantity" but it was unofficial and against forum rules. Select squad leader for more points risk loosing more also. Don't ever wound let alone kill a team mate. Play on official server or honour servers flip side to this is to play on none official server to learn the maps / strategy without the risk of loosing honour. You know the' re a few names they call players who take defence on bridge but that's mainly the CS kiddies who don't understand what defence is tasked to do. I prefer assault I die well. I keep forgetting to tie the other end of the bungee cord to the bridge parapet and go splat quite often, but the real cause of falling off the bridge is that damn lag that 30 ping really sux big time A good bunch of n00bs can fight off a cohesive assault if they communicate well you've got to know when to pull back! [rp] PC.G.A. meeting [Pugwash] My names Pugwash I'm thirty(cough) and I'm addicted to multi player computer games [Addict] Welcome Pugwash, how old are you I didn't quite catch that. 21. You should only need PB if the server you're joining has PB enabled. Again like the client by default server start up with PB off, but all official server have it enabled. Frame rates can drop dramatically on interior maps like pipeline, Tunnel used to be the worst by far and was revised, FLS was terrible for assault while you're in the drop plane but once you exited things were back to normal. Server setting can be changed to help dialup players and spread the servers bandwidth more evenly. There used to be a lot of rubbish floating about saying dialup players dragged the ping up for all players and created lag, what IMO was more important was the speed of the players PC low spec PC affected all players ping. Joining ping also effects all other players ping you join a server which reports a ping of 280 which is playable once your in game your ping will probably be over 400 all other players ping will have risen 40 or 50 and the votekicks start. It plays fine even on my slowest PC, P3 866MHz,384M, 32Meg MX nVidia grafix It might be your setup, make sure you choose a server with low ping (under 100 if you can find 1)because when you get into the game it will be much higher, (adds 40 - 120 to ping when I connect using 2Meg cable connection). I love Bridge normally play assault second favourite is Mountain pass as long as the isn't a sniper on the far hillside but also like Insurgent camp and Pipeline.
  22. quote:gave you a headache as in you the game ran badly?game runs ok, it's when playing in those streets, maybe I ought to buy a new monitor? No harm in updating GS they packaged AAO with an older version. That lack of error messages really frustrates some players. I spent 6 months giving support on GS for this game (AAO) boy do some people have problems connecting. Use the in game browser it's more reliable than the external GS or use All Seeing Eye (ASE) I used to play on the same few servers so knew the IP address of them and connected directly using the open xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx console command. Just get the ip of the server from whatever browser and use the console method to join. the main advantage this method has over other ways of joining is it displays more error / information messages on the screen. I managed to complete the final SF training mission last night took me over 3 hours to figure out the way to go its not really a training mission but a puzzle. It still takes me a little under 40 minutes to complete and I know the way to go slow crawling from one end of the map to the other.
  23. This is the sort of question I would normally ignore but I'm still in a good mood for the moment. I suggest you brows each and every page of the appendix and you'll find what your looking for. or just click on Launch Bases and NAV Links from the appendix menu. Other than that do a search for navchart.ini and lbases.ini on your computer and open them with WordPad All the equivalent information plus much more is in the BCM/G appendix.
  24. Silly question but I've got to ask, have you passed the prerequisite training for the map? Minimum requirement is to have passed the four basic training missions Marksmanship, Obstacle Course, US weapons and Mount but this does not open all the maps Goto the ingame Deployment Missions menu and check the required map is available to you. You used to be able to press the "ESCape" key on the loading screen which would drop you to the "Operation defend freedom" screen and hopefully find the offending error message top left corner or centre of the screen (often difficult to read) but have not checked that this is still current in 2.0. I spent nearly 2 hours last night trying to get my server to run I'd forgotten that I'd reconfigured the IP addresses of my LAN and had entered the wrong one in the ini file. Spent a couple of hours playing the new special forces maps but they gave me a headache don't know if that because I've changed the hardware I'm playing on or due to the update to the game.
  25. Although the is a single player "training" mode to progress through training you need to be online and have a valid AAO account, your stats are saved on their server. You can play all the maps in single player mode from console commands and since 1.90 you can call up bots but the AI for the bots is so bad its hardly worth the time typing in the commands. Your PC should be powerful enough to run a LAN server which you don't need an active Internet connection for and play on at the same time but you will be Billy no mates all the maps will be empty.
