  1. Anything important in the scrolling text maybe? Like things failing to load or something? Perhaps it goes quite quick. But perhaps there's also some info in it.
  2. quote:and you will get a far better view of X What did ya think? On homebase everyone is objective. X is pretty cool, I have the game too, just BC games go broader and have more action, in my opinion.
  3. Why waste your time on v1.01D7C when you can get v2.09 for the same price? Haven't you seen GNN lately?
  4. Actually, null-space is about as quiet as you can get.
  5. DOS maybe dead, but it's ghost is gonna kick back and scream before it enters heaven or hell [ 07-22-2001: Message edited by: Rico Jansen ]
  6. Yeah, I hope it wasn't due to my lack of command ability?
  7. I guess Cmdr Nova's point is, is that towing the naval craft removes it's buoyancy. The shuttle is drifting on the water surface as if nothing happend, where as the craft would be pushed down by the almighty shuttle's (fixed angle) tractorbeam despite it's (supposed) buoyancy. But he probably forget's it's a game and not a naval (newtonian physics) simulation. Archemedes' Law does not aply here.
  8. I guess, bc3k is worth more that 5 bucks than X is. (thinking 5 bucks on your phonebill in case of modem) In the long run anyway. But all depends on your likes and dislikes. X is a alot more pleasing for your eyes. In X you can start your own trade- AND manufactoring company in space(only). BC is military command based with trade support, and has fleet command optional. Not to mention BC is planetside aswell. X has no ship-based resource management at all. In BC you have a crew to worry about too. But X has a (payable) upgrade "X-tension" that evens the score on fleet-comand a little. (But I know just as much on Xtension as their product page does) BC3K is free now. X has manual docking if you want the true space feel. And BCM is a number of steps ahead in all kinds of directions. So, that 5 bucks depends on what you like. I can't quite agree with the SC here. They are both open-ended space games, that's the common thing. Both have a storyline you don't need to adhere to. [ 07-22-2001: Message edited by: Rico Jansen ]
  9. Yep, mugging in short: - fire up Tacops, - center and zoom up on your victim, - launch one of your shuttles, - left-click on the victim, - a menu should apear with a line that pulls down for you to command one of your 4 shuttles(select the one you launched previously ofcourse) to collect his stash. Not sure of the exact words, but I guess "collect", or "order", or "command" And off your shuttle goes. p.s. Make sure that shuttle isn't carrying it's drone and ATV around with it. Or else it will be likely that stuff will be left in the victim craft. p.p.s Besides, why surprise an intruder with a shuttle AND atv? ... AND drone?. Not that he's gonna care he has them or not. 10. Don't worry about that too much, RM Last check : 1.93 out of 10 [ 07-22-2001: Message edited by: Rico Jansen ]
  11. Do I hear guinea-pig? Charles, you're a genius! I just happend to need a new 'lean' DOS bootdisk today. Guess what? Memmaker made me a solid 624kb with the usual cdrom, mouse, files and buffer drivers and thingies. Mucho gracias, my friend. For the record, I used this WIN95b bootimage for the disk, as there's only Microshit's LoseMe around here. Had to kick MSD.exe of the disk to get enough space, and used Cutemouse and this universal cdrom driver. Now, let's see if I can beat that 610kb (per SC's FAQ) of my win95a bc3k system in the comming days. [ 07-21-2001: Message edited by: Rico Jansen ]
  12. No, I just grabed the 450kb or so .jpg file, saved it to disk and opened it in Photopaint. Went to print preview, fit to fill, checked to see if everything looked good (it did), and viola, pretty clear hardcopy. I know this is of little use for anybody else, not having the same specs, but I'm not really good with this graphic stuff. My brother has those genes.
  13. If BC3K had ever any ties to Elite (or Elite 2 and First Encounters), read this. Coincidense or revolution?
  14. LOL
  15. Hey Pugwash! You should have promoted your GBS dedicated site a bit. There's alot of stuff on it that's very worthy of mentioning. I intended to have a look at the scripts you made, but decided I wanted to disect that link and have a look on your homepage instead, or whatever it is. It's a pretty neat little page thing you have there. And reading of all the work you have done on the scripts, besides from what we can read in this thread. My! Must have given quite some headaches working that stuff out. Script logic, I mean. Though I would like to mention there are some things wrong with it. Nothing major, I think. (and atleast you're consistant with it) The SC doesn't really like typos in the game's characters he created. Since your work is public, somebody may fall over it. For example: [*]You have a certain Supreme Commander Karl Renies in all of your scripts. [*]Are the Grammulans perhaps an agressive extra-terestial hardcore rockband that received a Grammy? [*]In one or more of your scripts you designated the Gammulan crafts with GCV- ... Galcom crafts have GCV-shipname But one of the best parts of your site is the alternative navigational map you made. Extremely clear on where you can go. It shows the regular jumppoint- and wormhole links, but also the more tricky fluxfield links with their supernovea and blackhole endpoints. I think it's alot more clearer than the one in the manual/appendix. Both thumbs up for this one! And printing out the map wasn't so bad on my side here. I used Corel Photopaint 9 to stretch to full A4, and a HP640C on normal quality setting. Quite reasonable, I'd say. A bit small on the text part, but no worries. 17. quote:The Prime Fleet standard was 9 ships in a squadron,... God, I'm a wise-guy.
  18. Well, in that case, the thing you can work on now is patience. As the game is not out yet. I suggest you dig into the GBS section of the forum. That's where all the scripting and mod-ing action is. To get aqainted with it, download the GBS kit from the downloads section. I don't think it's going to be rediculously different from BC3K (in this respect). Neverhteless we can't say anything constructive on moding of BCM yet. We don't know either. 19. If I'm not mistaken, squadrons were to have up to 6 commanders assigned. (or even 7, not sure if the squadron rankcode went from 6 downto 0 or downto 1) Admittedly, due to commander shortages during startup we settled on a smaller intermediate number. p.s. 20. Highest place #2, Excellent!!!
  21. Well, inserting a B5 model shouldn't be impossible in BC3K. But you have to have the balls for it to persist. It sure is not going to be a quickie.
  22. Hopefully that noise will deafen the detractors for ever.
  23. Yeah, good to see this part of the board breathing again. Ehm, regarding asset choice, does anybody have info on what's available at Genesis? (if it changed in BCM) The demo had a html file of sorts (I think Andergum made it) that had a whole table of all the crafts and their respective statistics. Whether they are up-to-date with the current playbalancing changes in the demo's, I don't know. But it's something to start with. I looked at it some weeks ago, trying to decide what my fav craft would be, and I think a Garid does it for me to. But more like singleplayer free-fl... sorry, ROAM. But I'm not final on it yet. Apart from shield, armor and firing capacity considerations, don't forget that jumping is alot slower now than it was in BC3K. It's going to be more difficult to respond quickly to a cross-region threat. Unless they're smart enough to head your way, ofcourse. And if you have them, you could use fighters if their AI is good enough. As far as long mission duration goes, I think getting supplies for repair and weapons suplies are going to be a bigger problem than fueltank storage. As from what I figured from the demo, you need to hop into a shuttle yourself to get the supplies from a station. No more 'bell-boy' flightengineers or marines for us. Leaving your craft in the middle of combat in the hands of people like Paul Resnig. Probably not a good thing to end with Resnig rather close to sleeping time but this 's about what I have to say. 24. Hey, I just noticed the rating of BC3K on The Underdogs site went up by 0.01 to 0.29. (out of 10!) Who's been voting too? I didn't notice any change after my vote yesterday, so it can't be me alone. And if you haven't voted, ... then catch my drift. [ 07-18-2001: Message edited by: Rico Jansen ]
  25. Outside? Sure, there's the airlock. Go right ahead. But I think you got your questions answered, so let's not turn this topic into a pissing contest, shall we.
