  1. I got it too. I'm still playing the training missions, called the "simulator". Even at this early point, its clear the game is DEEP. Especially from an empire building point of view. The flight control is looser than a two dollar whore, so combat is clearly its weak point. I like complex games, so this game will sit on my hard drive for a long time and can easily co-exist with BCMG/UC because they really are different games, apples and oranges. Frame rates are fine on my rig, at least in the training missions. But I don't think you can judge it until you have a lot of things going on in the universe, with all its associated AI calculations. Some have complained that over time, the thing will slow down pretty bad without a reboot (memory leakage?). Some have even complained about corrupted save games. Fun stuff. If you are an early adopter, space sim freak (like me) and can't wait until its cleaned up, I'd say get it now.
  2. Its scary to think how many of these child predators (or whatever classification this nutjob falls under) are roaming our streets. In MA, they printed an article (Boston Herald I think) recently saying that the state government had lost track of many of them. Nothing gets me more riled then this subject.
  3. * head explodes * I have an engineering degree so I have had courses in electromagenetic field theory, thermodynamics, and such... Thanks for bringing back my nightmares.
  4. quote: If true, could it be accessed on-line or in pdf in advance so us newbieÔÇÖs can start reading through it before the game arrives. You'll see pigs fly before you see this.
  5. Maybe this is good for the masses, to help them understand what their rig can run, but I'll stick with traditional methods, using my brain, thank you very much. Hmmm, maybe this is something I should have my relative and computer challenged friends install. Might save me time trying to explain why Doom III doesn't run on their 5 year old Pentium 166.
  6. quote: someone who try to help the people is surely dangerous to whom want to restore the old ways..... So true.. Since the US has gone back to a more military stance, the insurgents are getting more bloodied attacking US troops. Thus they are now targeting the softer targets, i.e. Spanish, Japanese diplomats and humanitarian entities and Iraqis sympathatic to US efforts. Hopefully the common Iraqi sees through this, but of course I imagine it depends on which "Iraqi" you ask, i.e. Sunni vs. Shiite etc. I hope the new Iraqi government can successfully implement democracy. One less dictatorship and one more democracy makes for a better world.
  7. These guys are unreal. Instead of just yanking the pic and showing some class and respect, they are debating freedom of expression blah blah blah. And in doing so, they are jeopardizing their gig.
  8. The graphics are BCM. If you are looking for a graphic overhaul of BCM, that would be UC. BCMG added a few things in terms of content. Additional areas, mission zones as mentioned on the product info page. It also has 1 or 2 additional campaigns depending on which version you bought (Gamestop version had 2). And then it added mouse flight controls which was a big one for me, because I don't have access to a joystick when I play on my laptop. Of course, the biggest addition is multiplayer. I'm sure there are several other subtle differences. Check the version control files for clues. Welcome to the forums!
  9. quote: Clearly he has no clue what he's talking about and he's just baiting and fishing you guys. Don't fall for it. Well you were right. He posted more garbage on the DC forum. I'm done with this troll.
  10. Well I challenged Takvah to try talking about the GAME and he created a new thread. I replied with anwsers to the best of my knowledge and tried to take the high road. Lets see what happens. If he just wants to turn it into a pissing contest then I'll tune him out.
  11. quote: doooooood, commander, sir, supreme commander, permission to ask that OTS weapons be enablable in multiplayer via a flag in a config file, SIR! Well other than the "doooood", at least you know how to ask. You still will probably get a siddown though, but thats an honor.
  12. quote: Right guys? Siddown!
  13. quote: "Ubisoft is committed to making the best military simulation games possible, and unfortunately, the Harpoon IV project wasn't meeting this goal. In our judgment, the product quality could never reach a level that meets or exceeds consumer expectations," said Tony Kee, vice president of marketing, Ubisoft. "We will never intentionally ship a product that is sure to disappoint our discerning customer base." Translation: "We, the suits at Ubisoft, have concluded that given the latest marketing and financial data, and considering the size of its intended market, AND its current development budget, cannot possibly make enough money to satisfy our stockholders." I AM the spindoktor afterall and can spot this crap from the Gammulan quadrant.
  14. Welcome to our obsession! quote: bit buggy too - but I am impressed with the level of support available so I am going for it Not true at all. Its actually solid as a rock if you have it patched to RC7. Maybe you are thinking of BC3K 1.0?
  15. quote: I am also thankful for those who fight overseas to ensure our freedom. God bless them I'll second that! Happy Thanksgiving all!
  16. quote: I basically can't do any of those cool ideas I mentioned above and it's totally impossible with the current tools available? Correct?? What Cmdr Laracuente is saying is that ONLY the beta testers know, and they ain't talking (NDA?). We can only wait until the game is in our hands. At then you can answer your own question by playing around with the tools. Patience young reptile.
  17. quote: And please thank him because it's not his task to spend time worrying about compressions, codecs and so on... Agreed. Thanks for going the extra mile SC. And for me personally, I only care what these movies convey from a gameplay perspective. Anyone who is worried about video quality here is missing the point. We'll get the video quality when the game sits on our hard drives.
  18. quote: Well... you can always send your shuttles down with the extract drone order.....then you'll have them on board agin ready for another deployement.... If the shuttles fail to find the drones they're probably lost or destroyed.... then go to a station and buy replacements.... This is good advise. You may not be able to see them in tacops, but your shuttles will find them.
  19. quote: This allows teams to co-ordinate, learn from you (if they are on escort), learn from their encounters, environments etc etc. It'll - literally - blow your mind to see what I've done this time around. Its not perfect (that takes time and several generations of updates), but its worlds from anything I've done before in the BC series. This has me especially excited. You go prone, they go prone. Although I guess it depends on their AI levels as to how well they follow your cue? I remember around the 15:20 mark of the movie, you have a couple of AI buddies behind you go prone when you do and then there's the one dolt still standing. I guess he's been on too many away teams with Resnig. Going on away teams is going to be so much fun with UC. Without even playing the game, I imagine this is one of, if not the biggest improvements from BC to UC.
  20. My favorite: quote: ************IMPORTANT THIS JUST IN************** I heard if you ROAST the discs over an open fire the safedisc protection drip right off!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I implore all those to try it and let me know the effects. Good stuff.
  21. quote: You will also noticed me using the TOM (Team Orders Menu) to issue orders to not only my team, but also other marines deployed by the base I was stationed at. New 3-letter acronyms abound! WOHOOOO. quote: my old 15" at 1024x768 Ewwwwwww. Welcome to the world of big monitors! I play BCM on a 22" NEC Multisync so I'll probably ruin my eyes from the radiation. But at least my Megaron looks nice.
  22. quote: I was hoping to see some features/game play that were new to UC that was not available to BCM (besides the interface) that would convince me to purchase this game. Other than great graphics, it still looks like BCM. Delta1, the SC just described a couple of new features a few posts above yours. Team orders menu for example. Maybe you don't consider these new features, but to many BCM players these are very much new features that have us excited. With that said, if BCM doesn't appeal to you, I doubt UC will. For example, I love the Combat Mission games. The developer just released the demo for the 3rd game in the series. You fire up this new demo and say "Looks like the same game". But thats not a bad thing but its certainly not true once you sink your teeth into it. If its already good, then it only needs improvement, fine tuning perhaps in all areas. It doesn't need to be (and shouldn't be) a "new" game. UC is similar. Although it seems to be a much greater leap in terms of technology than the latest Combat Mission over its predecessor.
  23. Congrats to you Vanethian. The music tracks really do rock! As great as the visuals are, the music really shines as evident from these movies. Can't wait to get the game. SC, is it cool for us to burn the mp3s to a disc for personal listening?
  24. Welcome Krynn! If you are lucky, you will even get hugs and kisses from the resident babe!
